[Bug 1213879] Re: kernel fault ovs 1.10.1 + linux 3.11
@Joseph 3.10 was OK; the problem is that openvswitch expects to be able to register a protocol hander for GRE; however the kernel has already done this so it fails. I think this then results in some badness later on openvswitch. [Bug 958549] Re: Black screen on guest with anything except Cirrus
Thanks Jim Salter! You point me to the right direction...! Nevertheless I had choosen another way to solve that black screen issue because RDP to my Windows Machine wasn't possible. I use virt-manager so I added a new video device to the VM. The order is important: the first Video device must be Cirrus and the second one must be qxl. Boot up Windows VM Download and install the latest spice-tools within Windows VM Shutdown Windows VM Change first video driver back to qxl Remove second video driver Boot up Windows VM Enjoy ;o) Ah yeah and well I had some other problem here when booting up: Windows told me that the Redhat QXL driver is not signed and therefore it refuses to load that driver I use Windows 7 - 64 bit and as you can read here: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/spice-devel/2011-May/003814.html The SPICE Team do not deploy signed drivers for 64 bit Windows.. You have two options to solve that: The hard and correct way as described here: http://spice-space.org/page/WinQXL#How_to_build_the_driver or to use the test-mode and test-sign the Redhat QXL drivers (right click within the device manager and then Driver details will show you all QXL drivers you need to sign than) like described here: http://www.ngohq.com/?page=dseo My tip: Remove the second video driver in virt-manager only when the QXL driver is fully working. Issue may occuring for you, too: When you have the QXL driver running correctly (no warning icon in device manager) and your Mouse/Mice stops working this is a known bug in libvirt - you only need to shutdown the VM and do the steps above which removes the second Video card. Afterwards when you boot up your mouse should work again (if not try to remove the mouse in device manager and reboot again) For me running testmode is ok and it works like a charm ... so great desktop resolution ;o) Hope that helps someone out ;o) Hint: no BIOS display though. [Bug 1216009] [NEW] qemu-img fails if filenames contain a ':'
Public bug reported: I cannot use qemu-img to create a qcow2 format file with a name containing a colon (':') Steps to reproduce: 1) qemu-img create -f qcow2 foo 1 # this works 2) qemu-img create -f qcow2 foo:bar 1 # this fails Expected results: both commands should succeed, and I should end up with files foo and foo:bar. Actual results: the second command fails with the error: qemu-img: Unknown protocol 'foo:bar' Affected: qemu-utils 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.10 qemu-utils 1.5.0+dfsg-3ubuntu3 The root cause seems to be in qemu-img.c:print_block_option_help which calls bdrv_find_protocol(filename). This leads to block.c:bdrv_find_protocol which has the following comment: /* * XXX(hch): we really should not let host device detection * override an explicit protocol specification, but moving this * later breaks access to device names with colons in them. * Thanks to the brain-dead persistent naming schemes on udev- * based Linux systems those actually are quite common. */ Impact: this stops me using libvirt to import an image into a file- backed storage pool with a libvirt name containing a colon (':'), since libvirt maps these to files in the filesystem, and then qemu-img (or kvm-img as libvirt uses) fails on it. Thus I can't use libvirt storage volumes with colons in the name. I'm doing this to map product IDs in the new Ubuntu cloud image simplestreams naming scheme (and product IDs contain colons). I also tried: qemu-img create -f qcow2 file://foo 1 But this just leads to: open(file://foo, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0644) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) Workaround: qemu-img create -f qcow2 ./foo:bar 1 works on 1.5.0+dfsg- 3ubuntu3, but not on 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.10. [Bug 1193175] Re: hv-kvp* needs to be included in default installation of Ubuntu 13.10 on Hyper-V
Due to what needs to happen, can this wait till 14.04? 14.04 is an LTS and will ship in April with 5 years of support. 13.10 will only have 9 months of support. After fully understanding what is being asked here, it is subtaintial work. Specifically: 1. A new package will have to be generated from linux-extras and include upstart 2. That package will need a udeb to be included on the installer CD 3. It will need to be added to the cdimage While this may not sound like a lot of work, it is. And it is work that should be done early in the kernel cycle. The bigger problem here is that since the tools in question rely on a specfic ABI of the kernel, it is not easy to break it out. Basically we're talking about having to build a seperate package off the kernel package. Ideally, it would be great to have a stable API provided through the module that doesn't change which make kernel ABI concerns moot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1193175 Title: hv-kvp* needs to be included in default installation of Ubuntu 13.10 on Hyper-V To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lansing/+bug/1193175/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

But clicking a button with the mouse works. 4. Workaround - Start KDE systemsettings (btw. there is no visible mouse cursor in systemsettings) - Choose Erscheinungsbild der Arbeitsfläche from Erscheinungsbild und Verhalten der Arbeitsfläche (2nd group from top) in english it should be 'Desktop Appearance' from 'Desktop Appearance and Behaviour' - go to Zeigerdesigns; 'Mouse Pointer Desingn' or ?'pointer design'? choose an other design for the mose cursor, click the 'Apply' button and voila there is a mouse cursor. Not only in systemsettings but in all running KDE programs and QT based programs. If you now start another KDE program it has no visible mouse cursor until you again explicitely choose a mouse cursor theme. So you have to do this again and again for every KDE/QT program started after choosing a mouse cursor theme 5. Starting KDE-Plasma Desktop all programms have a visible mouse cursor, no matter if its a KDE/QT programm or not. 6. Starting unity-desktop there is no mouse cursor at all 7. Starting Gnome-Desktop, same behaviour as in XfCE4.10, there is no visible mouse cursor in KDE/QT programs 8. I fiddled around alot until I found this workaround with KDE systemsettings. No information about the current state was provided by the previous reporters. - The symptom is that occasionaly after resume from suspend or hibernate (possibly only if both are used after each other) the system does not restore. Instead the screen is in console mode and shows a message like PM: Device 00:0b failed to resume: error -19 It is not possible to change to a terminal or perform any other action than forced shutdown. So the complete workspace is lost. The message above is sometimes also shown after successfull resume so it does not need to be the reason for the system freeze. I will try provide more information as soon as the bug shows in my logs. My system is the current ubuntu 11.10 on a Lenovo thinkpad T61 (same as that of previous reporters) with intel grapics. [Bug 980832] Re: f2 key for wireless not working
Narendran Bhaskar, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Bug 1174275] Re: Random system freeze in 13.04
This is a frustrating problem. Since filing this bug i have reverted to 12.04, which also went about freezing randomly. It seems though that freezing is limited to when the machine is on battery power - i am still testing this but haven't had a freeze on mains power for a long while. That has lead me to believe that it is a wireless card problem, which also possibly explains all the issues i described above. I have a broadcom BCM43228 wireless card and had originally been running the driver through the additional drivers dialogue. I have since removed that (bcmwl-kernel-source) and built again from scratch, using the patches included here: http://www.mindwerks.net/2012/06/wireless-bcm4312 -with-the-3-4-and-3-5-kernel/ Was on battery power for about 5 hours last night and no freeze. I will continue testing today. If this works i might try and go back to 13.04 and build the driver again there. @Orionds: if you have the same wireless card on your machines running 13.04, perhaps you could give this a try . -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1174275 Title: Random system freeze in 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1174275/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please let us know your results. [Bug 1215798] [NEW] losing windows
Public bug reported: I found, that gnome-shell lose some windows. I see it in two ways: 1. gnome-terminal: after a restart - with ALT+F2 - r or kill -HUP $(pgrep gnome-shell|head -n1) a terminal windows can not be opened any more, but is listed in ALT+TAB list (I add a video) 2. remmina: I opened a connection and sometimes the window is jist not to see any more - also not in ALT+TAB. But it must there, when I open a new connection in a other group I get a new window. When I open a new connection in the same group as the lost windows (it get normally attached as a new tab to the window) it get a connect to the server, but not the window. I can see on the terminal server and netstat, that the connection is established.
