[Bug 1251939] Re: config*.m4 search path
Hi Robie, Am Montag, 6. Januar 2014, 13:01:06 schrieb Robie Basak: I'm wondering if there's more of a potential issue in Ubuntu than in Debian here. Our next release will be supported for five years, so I expect that we'll backport a number of as-yet-unknown bug fixes. As we're team based, it could be anybody doing this, and they may be unaware of this issue. So I think I'd prefer to carry the backported fix for this, just so there isn't a mine for a future developer to step on. We prefer to keep our delta against Debian small, so that's a vote from me to have the fix in 2.4.7-2, please. That's assuming that we just need the ignore-quilt-dir patch, or are there any complications with build system regeneration or anything like that? The code is only executed when running buildconf to re-create configure. This is not normally done during package build. Therefore the patch to build/config-stubs is sufficient to avoid the problem in the future if/when someone needs to re-run buildconf again. I have committed the patch to be included in 2.4.7-2. [Bug 1268120] Re: apt-build generates en error message in update-manager
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected saucy ** Description changed: [Later edit: Clearify and some spelling corrections.] This bug might affect or have it's source in another package. I just putted it where I found the troubble. Feel free to change if you like. (This might affect unattended-upgrades as well, i don't know.) I will first tell what I found, and then what I expect instead. Last of all, a workaround. PROBLEM I'm running a fully updated Saucy 13.10, with critical and recommended repos enabled. Not backports or proposed. update-manager version 1:0.194.1 I have lately found out about the apt-build package. When I install that package it also installs several others. It also, this is crucial, ads a line in the sources list found in sources-manager-GUI. But there is no change in /etc/apt/sources.list. (Suprinsing) So the change is made somewere else thats affects the sources-manager. The new row is file:/var/cache/apt-build/repository. I don't know where the actual addition is made, but it's visible in tha sources-manager-GUI. This new line complicates thing. When I run update-manager it complains that it could not download all files. If I uncheck that line in the sources-manager, then the software-updater works as normal again. The error message looks like this: W:Failed to fetch file:/var/cache/apt-build/repository/dists/apt-build/main/binary-i386/Packages File not found , E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. --- WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN I expect that the software-updater can tell difference of local and remote files, and only demand download and updated of the later. The local ones can be used as they are. WORKAROUND Keep the row file:/var/cache/apt-build/repository deactivated in sources manager. Only enable it when you are messing around with apt-build, then deactivate it again. The own-build packages doesn't seem to be classified as obolsete/local in synaptic on this account. + --- + ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 + Aptdaemon: + + Architecture: amd64 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 + GsettingsChanges: + com.ubuntu.update-manager first-run false + com.ubuntu.update-manager launch-time 1389440694 + com.ubuntu.update-manager show-details true + com.ubuntu.update-manager window-width 439 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-12-28 (14 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Release amd64 (20131016) + MarkForUpload: True + Package: update-manager 1:0.194.1 + PackageArchitecture: all + Tags: saucy + Uname: Linux 3.8.13-03081315-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo ** Attachment added: CurrentDmesg.txt.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1268120/+attachment/3946690/+files/CurrentDmesg.txt.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1268120 Title: apt-build generates en error message in update-manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1268120/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1268275] [NEW] Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze
Public bug reported: This is a bug report filed immediately after a screen freeze occurred. This bug report was filed as requested in Bug #1184451 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1184451 Other info: Description:Ubuntu 13.10 Release:13.10 Details of problem (as described previously) The symptom is that during normal use (Ubuntu 13.10) the system will lock up. The mouse can still be moved but I can't click on any open applications. The sound services will continue to operate (seemingly in the background). Then I wait for about 10 to 20 seconds and the windows will kind of go nuts (and that's a technical term!) flashing all the windows up seemingly in a random order until it finally shows just the wall paper (background) and then settles down with a crash report. At that point, the system is either completely back to normal, or partially OK (the missing aspect being the menu bars of all open applications - in which case a re-boot is necessary). (In reply to comment #17) so I believe xrandr is sorting this out, running it manually: king@hpmini:~$ xrandr --output LVDS1 --off king@hpmini:~$ xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto seems to get rid of the vertical lines. Ok, that just confirms that the hotplug uevent that we send upon resume is just vanishing. I think. If you try 3.12/3.13 do we get any more warnings about inconsistent hw state? .. I can test with 3.13 later today, but how do I check for inconsistent hw state? [Bug 996741] Re: CanoScan LiDe 210: Sane scans black pages (scan light stays off)
I solved my Problem: * The Lide210 runs now with a different USB 2.0 cable, the one, which has 2 connectors for extra power. * I dont know why it needs more power now, I think this is possible if a capacitor gets old, he is not able to bridge the power consumption of the electric torque. * Under Win7 it complains about a locked transport switch, but it was unlockt. * The scanner dont run anymore with a normal 2.0 cable. So Tom Gelinas has more knowledge about the 210 than Canon does. Many Thanks to all of you !!! [Bug 1268283] [NEW] After reinstall of Trusty, Lightdm can't log me in my session
Public bug reported: Hi So here is what happened : To test if an old bug with menus is still present in Trusty I updated to it, but it went very wrong (no screen at all, I filed this bug by going to recovery mode and FailsafeX). So I tried installing Trusty from scratch, but I kept my /home. I used the same ID and Password during the installation as I do each reinstall. [Bug 1268297] [NEW] Topics not covered by help. (Improve this guide)
Public bug reported: 1. By its very nature resolving #327770 might solve this too. I didn't find the How To. 2. Context - I am trying to install Google World. If that is not a supported process, and if you deliberately do not support the Google install it would be nice to have a pointer somewhere to that sort of possibility. 3. I could not find it in the Ubuntu store. I finally found it (for Ubuntu 64bit) using Google search. It downloaded (Firefox) afteer some long worrying silences (not good) some prodding (even worse?) the Ubuntu installer said it was installing. Google said thankyou (web page) 4. I have done a warm restart because I could not find it on my desktop. I still can't find it as a user. 5. If I sudo, find it and manage to launch it, it is not clear how I then would iconise the process. Ths bug report is explaining why I think the user guide will not meet the needs of a 'user' who would like to install Google Earth. A work- around would be very welcome but it is not the real point! [Bug 1251466] Re: Six version conflict in havana cloud archive
I'm seeing something similar to this. I'm working through the instructions at http://docs.openstack.org/trunk /install-guide/install/apt/content/, and in particular using apt repositories fort Ubuntu Cloud Archive for Havana as described at http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/install-guide/install/apt/content /basics-packages.html The installation has proceeded mostly OK up to the point of installing and configuring Cinder, per http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/install- guide/install/apt/content/cinder-controller.html. In particular, keystone, glance and nova seem to be working OK, as far as I can tell. But when I install cinder, the cinder-scheduler service doesn't start. [Bug 1268301] [NEW] udev alsa restore restore rules are broken
Public bug reported: To reproduce: 1. Run the following command: udevadm test --action=add /class/sound/controlC0 2/dev/null | grep alsactl Expected output: run: '/usr/sbin/alsactl restore 0' Actual output: run: '/usr/sbin/alsactl restore ' Note the missing '0' - this causes alsactl to restore the levels on all cards instead of the one that was just plugged in. The rules file looks like this: TEST!=/var/lib/alsa/state-daemon.conf, RUN+=/usr/sbin/alsactl restore $attr{number} This has not changed since raring (where this stuff works correctly). Under saucy the $attr{number} macro expands to empty string. udevadm info --query=all --path=/class/sound/controlC0 --attribute-walk outputs exactly the same attributes on both saucy and raring. Re: [Bug 484102] Re: Grub2 doesn't chainload truecrypt loader correctly
Thanks, that sounds clear. I gave up on trying to do things that way and went for a fully LUKS encrypted disc, (well except for a small stub that acts as the initial bootloader and /boot on /dev/sda1) and I run Windoze using VirtualBox. It's not perfect but I think it's pretty secure, certainly enough for my needs, and seems more solid than the dual boot. There's a lot I'd love to see improved both for LUKS encrypting and the VM. (Windoze is definitely slow in it though I'm not sure why and that fluctuates, I _THINK_ it's partly down to the Windoze antiviral I run in there as sometimes there's a dramatic improvement after that updates itself but it always slumps back to crawl speed. Fortunately I don't need Windoze for that much so I just live with it.) Anyway, glad to see someone is still interested in this: thanks. Chris - Original Message - From: Joseph Harrietha 484...@bugs.launchpad.net To: chrish...@psyctc.org Sent: Saturday, 11 January, 2014 6:02:21 PM Subject: [Bug 484102] Re: Grub2 doesn't chainload truecrypt loader correctly About Comment #28 I can confirm that I get this same error. I've done a bit of diagnosing and I have found that its a linker error, the -tText field fails to resolve the system memory address. This could be due to this laptop having a newer UEFI-supporting BIOS, or due to some quirk with where the OS stores its data concerning usable memory. Either way, the linker error is why we both get the No physical memory is available at the location required for the windows boot manager. The system cannot continue. error. The ISO method is imperfect, my main reason being that you cannot, with a hex editor, go in and remove all strings that identify the bootloader as a rescue CD, which means that this solution is very... very insecure, and partially defeats the point of using truecrypt. It also retains the encrypted keys in the bootloader image, whereas grub2tc does not. (Remember the extracted volhead). Anyone could take your unencrypted tc-rescue disk, run grub2tc on them, get your volume header and begin hacking. Sure, it still wouldn't be easy... but never underestimate your opponent. If you're using TC, you have your reasons. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/484102 Title: Grub2 doesn't chainload truecrypt loader correctly Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: grub2 I am working on a dual-boot system with one hard disk. sda1 = /boot sda2 = Windows Vista Ultima encrypted with TrueCrypt System Encryption sda3 = Ubuntu 9.10 encrypted lvm The grub2 entry for windows is created by the file 50_windows in the /etc/grub.d directory: #! /bin/sh -e echo Adding Windows Vista entry 2 cat EOF menuentry Windows Vista { set root=(hd0,2) parttool (hd0,2) boot+ chainloader (hd0,1)/truecrypt.mbr } EOF Choosing this entry in the grub2 menu the Truecrypt loader only shows the following message: TrueCrypt Boot Loader Load damaged! [Bug 575817] Re: Interrupted upload is not retried
This bug can easily trigger data corruption and lost: 1. Computer A has the file, computer B doesn't. 2. User performs a clean install of Ubuntu in computer A, deleting all his files because he thinks there's a copy on the cloud. 3. Computer A hasn't the file, computer B hasn't the file either. In my case, this deleted my university work twice. And now I'm unable to sync my work between two computers.
