[Bug 454358] Re: karmic ubiquity installer hangs in partitioner after dismounting 2nd drive

2014-01-31 Thread John Gilmore
It's only end of life because the bug-handling team sat on it without
action for four years. This bug is not MY problem, it's yours.

No, I am neither able nor willing to reproduce this with a later Ubuntu
release. I've switched to Fedora.

If you actually care about addressing the bug that I wasted a few hours
chasing down and reporting to you, the bug report contains all the
information that YOU need to reproduce it (on Karmic or any later
release). I did my part. You could've tried to reproduce it, then
reported I can't reproduce it, neither in Karmic nor the latest
release, showing good faith on your part, and then it would be worth my
time to help chase it down. But since your response is just a lazy
attempt to chivvy the bug into a closed due to EOL status without
actually doing any work to solve the underlying problem, why should I
waste any more time here? If I did reproduce it in 12.04 or 13.10, I
have every reason to expect another multi-year delay and then another
demand that if I don't work on it some more, you'll just close it
unfixed.

I suggest making a new category for bugs closed because we aren't
interested in addressing them and closing it into that category. It'll
be a very popular category. Merely closing the bug would leave the
incorrect implication that it had been fixed -- or even investigated.

[Bug 1171587] Re: update to GTK 3.9 and the issues to resolve for it

2014-01-31 Thread Khurshid Alam
Gnome removed hard-coded toolbar style setting from gtk-3.10. Earlier
it was possible to add

gtk-icon-sizes = panel-menu-bar=16,16:panel-menu=16,16:gtk-large-
toolbar=16,16:panel=8,8:gtk-button=16,16

to ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.

But now, gtk-icon-sizes are completely ignored. This is a too drastic
change to land on a LTS release. In other desktop-session like gnome-
flashback/mate there is no way to change panel-menu/toolbar-menu sizes
icons.

I am using gtk+3.0 (3.10.7-0ubuntu1) the regression still exists. Will
Ubuntu patch it back?

[Bug 1218973] Re: [Dell XPS 12-9Q33] Touchpad not recognized

2014-01-31 Thread Mads
I'm trying to get this patch working on Gentoo with a vanilla kernel,
and I cannot for the life of me figure out what kernel modules are
supposed to be loaded to make this work... (the patch applies nicely on
3.12-kernels, testing this on 3.12.9...)

Should i2c-hid be loaded?
What about hid_multitouch? i2c_designware_platform/core?

Do I need any special synaptics driver within Xorg? Currently having
xf86-input-synaptics and xf86-input-evdev installed...

Are there some kernel options I need to know about? Replicated the
CONFIG_RMI4_* options so they look the same as your patch, no dice...
(as in, rmi_hid as module, core,control,fwlib,i2c,f11 and virtual_button
is built-in)

rmi_hid gets autoloaded during boot, so something seems to work..

Do you think you could paste xinput details, lsmod and such? Or do you
know of something else that I need besides rmi4.patch on vanilla 3.12.9
for making this work?

[Bug 1275101] [NEW] Xubuntu 13.10 Startmenu-Entries

2014-01-31 Thread Florian Kieper
Public bug reported:

Hello there,

I found several problems with the startmenu-entries when trying to
customize them:

1) When adding several entries with the same name (but ie other commands
, I just used for testing) they are all visible in the startmenu, but in
the configuration-tool there is only one entry. After deleting that 1
entry the others are still invisible and can't be edited or removed
through the tool but they still appear in the startmenu.

2) Adding a custom-entry and assigning an icon (ie via png-file) the
entry will be created but the icon will be dropped.

3) It's impossible to create custom entries in the sorted folders like
multimedia or system. They will all be placed in the custom-folder
(named Sonstiges in German). I would like to feel free to sort as I
want to... but that's just a proposal.

It would be great if you'd apply changes soon... all else seems to work
fine for me! Great Distro!

Best regards,
Florian

So in looking at what exactly changed between the versions; it's only a

interesting;

For me, this has been easily replicable.

1.Running Ubuntu Gnome 3.10.

2.Gnome 3.10.1.

3. Geary 0.4.1.

4. I expected Geary not to crash when trying to attach file to email in

I will add crashdumps when I get crashes that do not just lockup the
machine but currently I have only seem complete lockups with 3.13

So the essense it :

3.11-lowlatency crashed 10 time today most of the crashes reached the console
so I could see the panic text.

[Bug 1173649] Re: incorrect color depth - intel graphics card

2014-01-31 Thread Dan McMahill
Just adding a me too data point. sysinfo says that my video card is:

Intel Corporation 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device
(rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Intel orporation Device 5641

For me, the really broken part was flash video such as youtube pages or
an episode of Georgia Outdoors on gpb.org. I'll attach a screenshot to
show what I was getting.

Adding the 00-xorg.conf file as suggested above with DefaultDepth 24
fixed things for me.

Best Regards
-Dan

[Bug 1271591] Re: upstart job race prevents gnome-keyring from being ssh agent

2014-01-31 Thread Andre Tomt
I see what I think is this bug on 3 different computers running 13.10, 2
installed with 13.10, 1 upgraded from 12.10.

Often what ssh agent is tried depends on how I start the terminal - the
agent environment is set differently if started from the dash, launcher
or alt-ctrl-t. And sometimes they all work like they should.

[Bug 1075608] Re: smbldap-useradd: fails to set several sambaXXX attributes

2014-01-31 Thread Tony Maro
I found other issues with the current version after updating. For me
every user gets assigned the domain SID from the server's local SID in
the smbldap.conf file. I ended up having to force the domain's sid into
that config field instead of the local sid. It just wouldn't look up
the domain sid given the domain name no matter what. Also, there was a
reference to a non-existent file where they'd added an extension that
shouldn't exist to the passwd tool. It's like someone opened these
scripts and just made random changes in a few places for no apparent
reason.

I don't often have to create new users, so I didn't realize this was a
problem after I updated the server until today. It's disappointing that
the team in charge of this would push out a LTS release with such a
buggy enterprise control tool.

@ Paul, thanks for the patch, it saved me a huge headache! This along
with three other fixes I had to make to the scripts finally got me
running again.

[Bug 1273429] Re: GNUCash won't open sqlite3 file due to libdbi

2014-01-31 Thread Thomas Templin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1273407 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273407

It seems that libdbi1 and libdbd-mysql have to be the same version!

There is a mail on the german gnucash list:
 http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-de/2014-January/008932.html

Due to the poster the problem dissapeared after upgrading libdbd-mysql
to version 0.9

So libdbi1 and libdbd-mysql have to be the same version

Upgrading libdbd-mysql to 0.9 will solve the problem, hopefully

[Bug 1275136] [NEW] font substitution fails if font name contains a dash

2014-01-31 Thread ferro
Public bug reported:

I have PDF that contain a font named Code-128, not embedded. Just installing
this font does not help: it is not picked properly and evince uses DejaVu for
rendering, which is bad for a barcode.
A fc-list does show the installed font. A fc-match does not work and always
returns DejaVu Sans Book

Expected: fontconfig picks the installed font and uses it for rendering
in evince. fc-match returns the font name it it matches, no matter what
character is contained in the name.

Tested on 12.04 and 13.10 (x86_64)

Temprary workaround i currently use:
I used fontforge to change the font by removing the dash in the font name. Then
i implemented a substitution for Code-128 to be substituted by Code128.

Result: evince displayed the font properly but fc-match still does not
work.

Unfortunately i have no influence on the PDF generation, they are
generated by a German Ministry of Interior and i have been struggling
for three years now to get them to create only PDF-A (fonts embedded),
but they refuse to implement that without giving meaningful arguments.
We, like many other companies are forced to utilize these buggy PDFs,
probably most companies use Windows+AdobeReader and don't have that
problem...

[Bug 1241101] Re: Java crash in libglib-2.0 after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

2014-01-31 Thread David V
Just wanted to comment that this bug is also present in the KDE
environment, but not Gnome, on a 64-bit Fedora 20 system. I encountered
it when using an SDK leveraged from Eclipse. The SDK crashes frequently
when I click the OK button on a window. The problematic frame is:

C [libgobject-2.0.so.0+0x19b48] g_object_get_qdata+0x18

Changing the GTK+ Appearance from Oxygen to Raleigh as others have
mentioned is working for me (so far).

[Bug 1275163] [NEW] Return from S3 Suspend to RAM alwaws reset session to greeter on recent updates

2014-01-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I used to let my PC sleep to S3 and turn it on remotely or on demand.
At some point after recent updates it resume to Gnome Greeter? and ask for
username and password, a screen I'm not used to see but I know how to use it:
I put my password and hopefully everything is where I left: But no, the session
start over from the beginning :-(

I recall from memory an update to AMD proprietary driver, but there is no route
back.
I update the kernel to 3.8.0-35 before report, but I have the bug from before.
Is there a log of recent updates?
If there is a log: Can I undo an update?

[Bug 1275162] [NEW] incorrect efibootmgr command is set by update-grub under OVMF

2014-01-31 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

I'm running OVMF from trusty, under qemu started like this:

$ qemu-system-x86_64 -pflash OVMF.fd -m 1024 -drive
file=nvme.img,if=none,id=D22 -device nvme,drive=D22,serial=1234
--enable-kvm

where nvme.img is my disk drive.

After the installation secure-boot key enrollment, the added ubuntu
boot entry fails to boot. I've added one manually using EFI shell and
the correct enumerated device drive (fs0:) and made it top priority.
That one worked. Comparing the output of the two using efibootmgr I get
the following output:

BootCurrent: 0006
BootOrder: 0006,0005,,0001,0002,0003,0004
Boot* EFI FloppyACPI(a0341d0,0)PCI(1,0)ACPI(60441d0,0)
Boot0001* EFI Floppy 1 ACPI(a0341d0,0)PCI(1,0)ACPI(60441d0,1)
Boot0002* EFI DVD/CDROM ACPI(a0341d0,0)PCI(1,1)ATAPI(1,0,0)
Boot0003* EFI Misc Device
ACPI(a0341d0,0)PCI(4,0)03171100
Boot0004* EFI Internal ShellMM(b,3fafd000,3ffbcfff)
Boot0005* ubuntuHD(1,0,0,1ca5fb01)File(\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi)
Boot0006* 'ubuntu-custom'
ACPI(a0341d0,0)PCI(4,0)03171100HD(1,800,f3800,075e987d-5ca9-4c04-82f1-7967bc2dca5f)File(\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi)

It appears as if an efi boot entry was added for an HD/MBR like partition,
instead of one address by ACPI/PCI and the full partition UUID.
