[Bug 1136110] Re: USB Audio Codec choppy playback

2014-04-21 Thread Alan Stern
You know, if would help a lot if you provided some concrete data instead
of just saying it doesn't work. For example, what shows up in the
dmesg log when you plug the audio device into the PCI card? If you
collect a usbmon trace showing a noise-filled session, what do you get
(see comments #72-#53 and also comment #82).

[Bug 1310663] [NEW] Text input fields lost Emacs bindings

2014-04-21 Thread Barry Warsaw
Public bug reported:

Before today's full upgrade to 14.04, all the text input fields in the
chromium browser responded to the basic Emacs navigation keys, such as
ctrl-a (beginning of line), ctrl-e (end of line), ctrl-n (next line),
ctrl-p (previous-line), ctrl-f (forward character), and ctrl-b (backward
character). The fields these key bindings worked in include the awesome
bar (i.e. url/search text field), and both single and multiline text
input fields inside web pages (such as this one).

Now, none of these keybindings work this way anymore. This is a severe
productivity regression.

This is despite the following facts:

% gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_key_theme
Emacs
% gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-key-theme
'Emacs'

and the fact that the keybindings still work in Firefox and other
applications.

[Bug 1310665] [NEW] extlinux-update from extlinux package not working properly

2014-04-21 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

[Converted to a bug report from
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/247368]

This looks like a bug to me but want to confirm if I'm doing anything
wrong.

After running extlinux-update, the /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf file
look like this:

-
## /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf
##
## IMPORTANT WARNING
##
## The configuration of this file is generated automatically.
## Do not edit this file manually, use: extlinux-update

default l0
prompt 1
timeout 50

include themes/debian/theme.cfg
-

I.e., all my editing would be gone and the machine is not bootable.

This is the extlinux from latest Ubuntu Trusty:

% apt-cache policy extlinux
extlinux:
Installed: 3:4.05+dfsg-6+deb8u1
Candidate: 3:4.05+dfsg-6+deb8u1
Version table:
*** 3:4.05+dfsg-6+deb8u1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Have I missed anything?

Thanks

Could you elaborate a bit and include the commands that you are using?
I'm guessing it's something like 'sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop'
that raises an error but if you could copy and paste the commands and
what they return we can help you better.

Accepted linux-meta into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
meta/3.13.0.24.29 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

I've just reinstalled Ubuntu 14.04 final relase, and bug is still

[Bug 1306629] Re: [SRU] SDL_syswm.h can't find mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h

2014-04-21 Thread Scott Howard
A) Workaround is to add: -I/usr/include/mirclient
-I/usr/include/mircommon to your compiler options.

B) Something is still odd here. Mir support was enabled in SDL2. You now
have to install libmirclient-dev and mircommon-dev and explicitly add
includes to mir header files in your program in order to compile any
SDL2 program, even if you don't use mir or have mir installed. Sure, Mir
will be the default next release - but that's next release, and trusty
was supposed to be an LTS release.

It's like having to install java in order to compile anything that uses
libc. (Hyperbole, but similar idea).

Enabling Mir support is great, but requiring developers to explicitly
include headers they don't know about and won't use seems odd.

[Bug 1310373] Re: Ubiquity crashed after failed installation

2014-04-21 Thread Phillip Susi
Windows XP ( which is no longer supported so you really should not be
running or it will no doubt be compromised via unpatched security holes
) started its partition in sector 63, rather than at 1 MiB, as is the
standard since Windows Vista. This does not leave enough room to
install grub when you are also using lvm. You will need to repartition
the drive so that there are more than 63 unused sectors before the first
partition.

[Bug 1283267] Re: Strange mouse behavior (Window Management)

2014-04-21 Thread Ningfei Li
The same problem here, still.

compiz: 0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1
unity: 7.2.0+14.04.20140416-0ubuntu1

If disabling Show live previews of windows in switcher in ccsm,
minimize a window (let's say firefox or gedit), remaximize it. Then if I
want to select text, I have to put the mouse pointer/the cursor one line
above and several charactors left (compared to the real position I want)
to do it.

However, if enabling Show live previews of windows in switcher ,
then you cannot use the hot corner to Show Desktop (ccsm--General
Options--Key bindings--Show Desktop). Set it to BottomLeft (any corner
that's not conflict with other key bindings), with Show live previews
of windows in switcher enabled, you can just use the hot corner to show
desktop for once. Then if you check the Show Desktop setting in ccsm, it
will be blank (not None but blank, nothing there).

This problem started from 13.10 and continues now in 14.04...
This bug report need to be reopened probably.

[Bug 1308291] Re: network-manager icon is gone in 14.04

2014-04-21 Thread Phillip Susi
I have noticed that when the ethernet cable is unplugged, the icon does
show up, but is non functional. All of the icons now seem to be merged
into a single menu, so when you click on the nm icon, the single unified
menu opens, but has no entries pertaining to nm.

I am guessing that this merged menu was a change in gnome-shell that
network-manager had to change to accommodate, and ubuntu updated gnome-
shell but not network-manager.

[Bug 1310679] [NEW] ath9k.ko missing from linux-image-3.13.0-24-generic

2014-04-21 Thread David van Leeuwen
Public bug reported:

The summary line says it. This is after an upgrade from ubuntu 13.10.
Network and sound didn't work anymore. I traced it to the non-existence
of the kernel module ath9k from /lib/modules/3.13.0-24-generic .

I reinstalled (dpkg install --reinstall) to no avail.

The -lowlatency kernel does not have this problem, I am running this

[Bug 883319]

2014-04-21 Thread Miguel Angel Fraile
Totally agree.

So perhaps this could be renamed to something like Xrandr scaling does not
scale the mouse pointer area or be splitted to a different bug report.

Probably this bug has been marked invalid because there is a mix of two bugs
here: one is related to panning (which I do not know if it's fixed or no), and
the other one to mouse constraints when scaling.

 I have X.Org X Server 1.14.5 , and if I issue

 xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 2x2

the screen scales correctly, but then the mouse is restricted to the (original
1x1 viewport) upper left quarter of the screen, making the scaling completely
 unuseful.

 It is quite easily reproducible.

if [ x$ret == x ]
then
echo Your current GCC version doesn't match the version your kernel
was compiled with.
echo The build modules will probably not load into the running kernel.
fi

but

root@dell:~# gcc --version | head -n 1 | sed 's/^[^ ]* [^ ]* \([2-4]..*\)$/\1/'
4.8.2-19ubuntu1) 4.8.2
root@dell:~# cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.13.0-24-generic (buildd@panlong) (gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu
4.8.2-19ubuntu1) ) #46-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 10 19:11:08 UTC 2014

so the version check fails although the versions match.

Changing the sed to 's/^[^ ]* [^ ]* \([2-4]..*\)).*$/\1/' gets you past
that point, but then (on kubuntu 14.04) if you don't have the kernel
sources in place you hit

1. Getting the source...Couldn't find the correct driver file:
linux-3.3.13.0-24-generic.3.13.0-24-generic.tar.bz2

because the script can't handle the 3.xx.x kernel version string and looks for
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-3.3.13.0-24-generic.3.13.0-24-generic.tar.bz2

v2.6 is hardcoded in the script, so it won't work for 3.x source
fetching.

Then looking furhter in the script I found that at least for my case
(broadcom chipset), it probably will fail the kernel patching, because
the script also has the patch for kernel 2.6 hardcoded:

DI_PATCHFILE[$i]=bcm43xx-injection-linux-2.6.20.patch

At this point I conclude that aircrack-ng was poorly (or not at all)
integrated to ubuntu, so I'm going to look for a live dvd pentest distro
for my tests.

[Bug 1309625] Re: Xubuntu 14.04: Grub drops to rescue prompt with message: error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found.

2014-04-21 Thread Phillip Susi
You have several disk drives, some of which have broken installs of grub
on them. You need to make sure that your bios is set to boot from a
drive with a correct install of grub on it. You can use sudo dpkg-
reconfigure to select which drives should have grub installed on them,
and this will also reinstall a working copy to the selected drives.

[Bug 1310690] [NEW] Lock screen password field does not capture key press - password is disclosed in background application

2014-04-21 Thread Fabio Machado
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

The new lockscreen in Ubuntu 14.04 is really nice, however I noticed (by 2
times already) that the password field doesn't capture the key presses
sometimes. Key presses are not registered by the field and it looks like it is
frozen (except by the cursor blinking). What I had to do when this happened was
to wait until the tentative expires (screen goes blank) and then try again -
then it worked.
However the application running in the foregroung (or background, if you
consider the lockscreen is on top) received the key presses, i.e, my whole
password - you can imagine the implications if it was a chat window.

I'm using 14.04, upgraded by 04/17 from 12.04 - all packages updated.

[Bug 1309445] Re: xfce notification area doesn't show icons

2014-04-21 Thread Perico
It also happens to me after fresh install of Xubuntu 14.04.
Network Manager icon has disappeared from Notification area, in plugin
properties, I can see that there is Network Management application, which can't
find its icon. (It is a grey screen icon, not found icon)
However, variable applications such as Guake, Aqualung show thei icons.
Emergency workaround is to install the xfce4-indicator-plugin aside. The
combination of the two plugins gives all required information.

[Bug 1310303] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 does not recognize my FujiFilm FinePix S1600 camera any more

2014-04-21 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

You may need to run the following:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package.
