[Bug 1315642] [NEW] powerwake doesn't honor resolv.conf

2014-05-03 Thread Adam Conrad
Public bug reported:

Subject says it all. powerwake doesn't do sane lookups, leading to
frustration like this:

(base)adconrad@lucifer:~$ host hermes
hermes.0c3.net has address 10.0.0.14
(base)adconrad@lucifer:~$ powerwake hermes
ERROR: Could not determine the MAC address of [hermes]
(base)adconrad@lucifer:~$ powerwake hermes.0c3.net
INFO: Trying to wake host: [hermes.0c3.net]
INFO: Sending magic packet to: [e0cb4e2c4faa]

Seems silly to have to specify an FQDN when my machine knows perfectly
well how to resolve hermes.

[Bug 1315643] [NEW] powerwake should make a best-effort attempt to guess broadcast

2014-05-03 Thread Adam Conrad
Public bug reported:

When I powerwake by hostname or IP, powerwake knows what network that
is, and if we have a route for it, we should hit that subnet's
broadcast, rather than 255.255.255.255, which is less reliable.

Example here:

(base)adconrad@lucifer:~$ ip ro sh
default via 68.145.116.1 dev eth0
10.0.0.0/27 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.0.1
68.145.116.0/22 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 68.145.119.149

And a powerwake to 10.0.0.14 only works if I send it explicitly to
10.0.0.31. This should be easily guessable without me having to hand-
hold.

I still regularly get this. The workaround is to open a terminal, which
causes the cursor shape to change. Once that is done, the cursor stays
visible.

[Bug 1315791] Re: package bridge-utils 1.4-5ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-05-03 Thread Steve Langasek
This was from the CAE Linux live CD

 Setting up bridge-utils (1.4-5ubuntu2) ...
debconf: DbDriver config: /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by
 another process: Resource temporarily unavailable
 dpkg: error processing bridge-utils (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

The error means that you had more than one process trying to access the
debconf database at the same time. This could be caused by multiple
package managers running at the same time. But whatever the cause, I'm
afraid you're not going to get much support here for fixing the problem
on a derivative based on a four-year-old release of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1315741] [NEW] The dnsmasq initscript fails to disable itself when the dnsmasq package is removed

2014-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04 and found that I had no DNS. After a
little searching I noticed that dnsmasq, as started by Network Manager,
was listening on 127.0.1.1, yet /etc/resolv.conf was being auto-
populated with 127.0.0.1, so DNS lookups were failing.

Manually adding 127.0.1.1 to /etc/resolv.conf lets DNS work until the
network state changes, then it gets overwritten again with 127.0.0.1.

I've worked around the issue by adding nameserver 127.0.1.1 to
/etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head and restarting network-manager.
Something left over from 12.04 is apparently still causing 127.0.0.1 to
be written instead of 127.0.1.1.

[Bug 1315601] [NEW] no sound

2014-05-03 Thread Laban Larsson
Public bug reported:

First: I bought a new AMD Radeon HD 7750 GPU and installed it, adding
Catalyst from Ubuntu software center and get the propri. drives for it.
After that I had no sound. Found a solution after two days of search-
AMD and pulseaudio dont work toghether, and follow there instructions to
change it to ALSA instead (removed PulsAudio). After that I had sound,
in the system and from the net. No problems, exept for a game that the
sound didn't work on. There soundfiles is in ogg/worbis format, and my
VLC coulden't play them. Find out that was an ALSA library that was
missing (libasound2-dev). Installed that library and after that I can't
get any sound at all. Removed the library, but still no sound. Installed
oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_0.201404302359~ubuntu12.04.1 in a desperate act
to get the sound back, but no, the silence is total, so I turn to you
now, hoping you can help me out...If it's a bug, it cerain will exist in
that libasound2-dev file, the one that silenced my computer after
installing it (I do restarts rutinly after every insallation, nessesary
or not) / Thanks

[Bug 1301873]

2014-05-03 Thread Guido Berhoerster
I think that although CSD might be a good fit for GNOME they are
problematic in Xfce for various well-known reasons:

* CSD look out of place in a heterogeneous application environment
(which is much more likely for Xfce than GNOME or KDE users since Xfce
does not have such a broad range of native applications) where windows
of applications using different toolkits such as GTK2 (most of Xfce for
the time being), Qt, or Java are combined

* xfwm4 has the ability to forcibly close windows of hung applications
which is impossible with CSD and they cannot even be moved

* xfwm4 allows to roll up a window, show a window on all workspaces or
always keep it on the top layer, all of which is impossible with CSD

* xfwm4 allows to customize the buttons shown in the titlebar, e.g. a
button for pinng or rolling up windows, all of which is lost with CSD
and leads to inconsistencies because such buttons are not even supported

* xfwm4 allows to customize mouse actions on top of the window
decorations such as double-clicking the title-bar or rolling up the
window with the mouse-wheel, all of which is impossible with CSD

Thus, CSD are IMO generally undesirable and unsuitable for Xfce and the
above patch should not be merged. Rather, and not only because this
affects Xfce but also setups which only use a window manager without a
complete DE, or more importantly KDE, I think it is not unreasonable for
asking the Gtk side to add a setting for disabling CSD. By that I mean
not drawing its own border and hiding client window controls and
disabling the MWM hints that disable the window manager's decorations.
From reading about CSD on Matthias blog I figure that it is currently
only possible to change the order of client side window controls and
their appearance on dialog windows.

Matthias, could you implement something like that as an xsetting? Our
xfsettingsd could then use that setting to disable CSD by default when
running an Xfce session.

2014-05-03 Thread Sebastian Nait Kacprzak
Ok I tested it on pl locale. Looks like in newer version it looks
better, because I got

DEBUG The package 'update-manager-kde' is marked for removal but it's in
the removal blacklist

line in main.log (which previoulsy was not there), but unfortunetlly my
proposed fix for DistUpgradeCache was invalid
since error was still shown in apt.log :
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\u0119' in position
51: ordinal not in range(128)
Logged from file DistUpgradeCache.py, line 661

(\u0119 i ę character which probably appeared in polish version of blacklist
line:
Dist-upgrade failed: 'Pakiet update-manager-kde jest oznaczony do usunięcia,
lecz znajduje się na liście pakietów, których nie należy usuwać.'
I do not know why it try to encode this line when it shown english version in
main.log)

I attach patch that fixes apt.log issue for me.

[Bug 1315611] [NEW] Keyboard shortcut CTRL+D for adding bookmark not working [Firefox 29, clean profile]

2014-05-03 Thread Øyvind Stegard
Public bug reported:

The age old keyboard shortcut for adding a bookmark for current page is
no longer working properly in Firefox 29.

Starting Firefox with a clean and new profile, the bookmark menu shows
keyboard shortcut for Add bookmark being set to CTRL+R, and that
conflicts with page reload. And indeed the page reloads when pressing
Ctrl+R, while CTRL+D is doing nothing.

However, if Firefox is started in safe mode, then Ctrl+D works as
expected and opens bookmark window for current page.

Note again:
. Starting Firefox in safe-mode: CTRL+D works.
. Starting Firefox with clean and new profile (no cruft or extensions): CTRL+D
does not work.

The common practice is to put them under, (using swedish example),
/usr/share/locale/sv/LC_MESSAGES/BOINC-Manager.mo
but as of now they end directly up under
/usr/share/locale/sv/BOINC-Manager.mo
skipping the LC_MESSAGES-part.
Applys for all language files.

[Bug 1315616] [NEW] Swedish locale should use sv not sv_SE

2014-05-03 Thread Josef Andersson
Public bug reported:

Context: Ubuntu 14.04, Any 7.x version of BOINC-manager and client
Actions: Installing boinc-manager
Problem:
After install, The Swedish translation uses the wrong locale name (sv_SE).
There is absolutely no meaning in using both language and country code.
If just using language code (sv) other users with different locale can
also enjoy this translation (such as sv_FI)
sv_SE should never be used for any translations. sv is the primary
language while sv_SE, sv_FI and such is a dialect.
Most, if not all other Swedish translations use sv, not sv_SE.

Please change the swedish locale from sv_SE to sv.

Server is a HP Proliant DL120G6 with 2 integrated gigabit nic which uses e1000e
driver for Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection.
This happened in kernel 3.2.0-60-lowlatency. Before that i tried
3.2.0-33-generic-pae and similar thing happened. So i'm quite sure it exists in
all kernel versions.
I tried to manually compile e1000e driver from sourceforge but that just did
work terribly (didn't crash just didn't work well).
We use this machine as pppoe concetrator and important thing is that this crash
never happened on the interface that is configured as link (have an ip) but
only on interface that is setup as pppoe server (kernel mode) so it maybe
related to this.
When this happens eth0 interface is down and as you can imagine all pppoe
connections are lost while eth1 works just normally.

[Bug 1274342] Re: faac is missing its mp4 options

2014-05-03 Thread Anthony Fok
It is a known issue, and it was not an oversight. See:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/382703/faac-in-ubuntu-13-10-doesnt-
support-mp4

It was removed due to licensing issues -

faac (1.28-5) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Andres Mejia ]
  * Disable mp4v2 support.
This only disables mp4v2 for the faac utility program. The faac
utility is GPL-2 but the mp4v2 library is MPL-1.1. The two licenses
are incompatible with each other.

  [ Reinhard Tartler ]
  * Revise debian/copyright
  * Bump standards version (no changes needed)

 -- Reinhard Tartler siret...@tauware.de Sat, 22 Jun 2013 15:09:31
+0200

Which means that Debian and Ubuntu cannot distributed faac with mp4v2 support
until this licensing issue is resolved.
In the mean time, it is probably the easiest to rebuild faac ourselves with
libmp4v2-dev installed.

[Bug 1313194] Re: Bochs Multiple Vulnerabilities

2014-05-03 Thread Mollie
Response from our finder:

I’ve saw that they’re replied to this bug and deemed it not a security
issue. I don’t agree with that, as their reason is they’re saying bxrc
is a config file. Of course it is, but it’s part of the packaging for a
virtual machine.

Example: If I packaged up a test.img with a malicious test.bxrc, got an
user to download my TestOS package and run it in Bochs, the target could
be exploited.

I don’t see much difference between a VMware VMX file and a Bochs BXRC
file, both are vm config files and if these issues were present VMware’s
parsing of a VMX file, they’d treat it (as they have in the past) as a
serious security issue:

Re: [Bug 1156358] Re: Chromium very slow

2014-05-03 Thread Gabor Toth
Hi,

Sorry to say but this has been a long-long time ago. Since I use Ubuntu
14.04 multiple times reinstalled or upgraded the system. This trouble
doesn't exist in my current system and I have no means to check out on a
configuration described in the bug.

Can't help with that.

[Bug 1315619] [NEW] Job with 4 threads not assigned 4 distinct cores

2014-05-03 Thread Tom Womack
Public bug reported:

On 12.04, I have reliably found that a job which starts 4 long-running
threads on an otherwise-idle machine (there are some other threads which
have been running for some time, but they have been kill -STOPped) gets
the threads allocated to 4 distinct cores on my Haswell.

On 14.04, I found that the threads were allocated to cores 0, 1, 5, 6 -
that is, two were running on the two hyper-threads 1 and 5 of the same
core, and performance was 30% less than expected. I can get around this
with explicit taskset commands, but for my use case it's a serious
regression from 12.04.

I am not willing to disable hyperthreading, because it gives a large
performance boost on other things I do on the same machine.

[Bug 1311424] Re: Startup Disk Creator dont erase pen drive

2014-05-03 Thread Sebastian Thürrschmidt
Same thing here while trying to format a USB thumbdrive in trusty. Looks very
similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks/+bug/1059872 and, like the
latter, could be one of the many symptoms of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/1012081 (ancient
util-linux in Debian/Ubuntu).

A workaround is to use gparted to format the target disk to fat32. (The
Disks utility won't work either, see those other bugs.)

[Bug 1315619] Re: Job with 4 threads not assigned 4 distinct cores

2014-05-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1315619/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page,
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details on to
how to revert to the official Xorg packages. Thanks.

[Bug 1315611] Re: Keyboard shortcut CTRL+D for adding bookmark not working [Firefox 29, clean profile]

2014-05-03 Thread Øyvind Stegard
They key here seems to be locale.

When started with default English locale, by setting LANG=C in
environment, the bug does not occur and CTRL+D works for bookmarking.
However, with Norwegian locale (LANG=nb_NO.UTF-8), it does not work and
CTRL+R is marked in menu as shortcut for bookmarking.

In Safe Mode, Firefox seems to use English locale regardless of
environment, which may explain why the bug does not occur then.

** Summary changed:

- Keyboard shortcut CTRL+D for adding bookmark not working [Firefox 29, clean
profile]
+ Keyboard shortcut CTRL+D for adding bookmarks not working with Norwegian
locale [Firefox 29]

[Bug 1177391] Re: ICQ in empathy not connecting

2014-05-03 Thread André Stannek
Forgot about this bug report. ICQ definitely works with

Ubuntu 14.04
account-plugin-icq 3.8.6-0ubuntu9
empathy 3.8.6-0ubuntu9

It also worked with Ubuntu 13.10 at some point but I can't tell since
which version anymore.

2014-05-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1279762 ***

You seem to have installed the cinnamon package on Ubuntu 13.10.
Unfortunately, that package is not available yet for 14.04. To upgrade
to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS you'll need to either wait for a fix for cinnamon to
be available or uninstall the package and then upgrade.
