[Bug 1316829] Re: remove /usr/bin/qemu alternative

2014-05-13 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Serge, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qemu into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/2.0.0+dfsg-
2ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1300722] Re: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a poll loop

2014-05-13 Thread Marcia
I just experienced this bug for the 2nd time in 8 days. The system had
been on for an hour or so and I was playing chess using an app that runs
under WINE that I use regularly without the 100% CPU problem occurring.
Thunderbird and Firefox were open but I was not interacting with them.
The System Updater notified me of an available update and I went ahead
and let it update while I was playing chess. Shortly afterward, the
cooling fan came on and I checked the System Monitor and found one CPU
pegged at 100% (see screen shot 1). The process consuming 25% of the
CPU was hud-service. (One of four cores running at 100% = 25%). I
glanced at some logs bug didn't know what to look for. Rebooted Ubuntu
and CPU activity is back to normal. I'm going to scan my system log
for clues but don't know what to look for; if I find something
suspicious I'll post it here. You can ask me to look for specific
things in the log and I'll be glad to do that. 2 screenshots attached.

[Bug 1318477] Re: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds

2014-05-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Has this system ever had any prior Ubuntu releases installed on it, or
is Trusty the first?

Can you also see if this issue happens while the system is connected to
AC power for 24 hours?

There are a couple of initial triaging steps we can perform. One would
be to test the latest mainline kernel to see if this bug is already
fixed upstream. If it is not, we should also find out if this is a
regression. If it is a regression, we can bisect to find the commit
that introduced this.

So in addition to testing this bug with AC power, can you also test the latest
mainline kernel, which can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15-rc5-utopic/

Just let me know if you have any issues or questions installing that
kernel.

[Bug 1035701] Re: grilo plugins should be enabled in Totem

2014-05-13 Thread Florian W.
I tried to make exactly that point: grilo works fine with rhythmbox (on
trusty, and ignoring a UI issue with expanding an item in the tree view
that has no child containers).

If totem segfaults, that must be either due to bad grilo integration or totem
uses some grilo plugins that are not used by rhythmbox and those segfault.
In the first case, someone should fix totem or totem can't use grilo. In the
second case, those plugins should be identified and fixed/removed.

In any case, throwing grilo out of [all?] major music players like
Ubuntu used to do is a bad idea IMHO. I've read numerous complaints
about missing DLNA functionality in Ubuntu. Even getting rid of every
grilo plugin other than DLNA and just using that in rhythmbox is an
improvement over Trusty, where grilo exists in Universe but no[?] common
music player supports it.

2014-05-13 Thread tigerdog
confirming same issue here on Lenovo G500/i3/intel graphics with fresh
install of 14.04. One note: if I suspend using the logout/suspend
dialogue, then resume using power button, system comes up with black
screen. As soon as I begin typing password, lightlocker PW dialog is
displayed and machine unlocks to normal operation.

If I close top cover then resume by opening, machine resumes to black
screen and does *not* come back when typing begins.

[Bug 1318778] Re: lightdm doesn't let pam_mkhomedir execute

2014-05-13 Thread Philippe Jeanne
I confirm that the skeleton directory is not used, and that ssh users
and graphic users dont have the same home directory.

The rights applied on the home directories (755, umask 022) are
dangerous : all users can read all the homes created in graphic mode.

[Bug 1319099] [NEW] whoopsie-upload-all does not upload RecoverableProblem reports

2014-05-13 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

whoopsie-upload-all contains the following:

if r.get('ProblemType', '') != 'Crash' or 'ExecutablePath' not in r:
print(' skipping, not a crash')
return None

Its not clear to me why we are excluding RecoverableProblems or those
don't have an ExecutablePath in them. Regardless, we should be uploading
these to the error tracker.

[Bug 1303962] Re: please integrate mediascanner2 and media-hub with apparmor

2014-05-13 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Regarding embedded album art: well, that is what the mediascanner is for
no? An app can always read its own files (eg, a music app that downloads
to its own directory) but if the file is stored in the global media
collection (ie, ~/Music), then mediascanner can scan it, extract the
album art and cache it. The app requests the metadata via
libmediascanner which uses the aforementioned DBus API, the DBus service
asks the user if it is ok (or pulls the previous answer from cache) and
if it is ok, gives libmediascanner what it needs to then retrieve it
from the thumbnailer (which in turn would get it from the mediascanner
cache). Perhaps it is easier for the DBus service to give the scanned
embedded album art to libmediascanner by passing an fd. Either way, it
should fit the paradigm. Am I missing something?

[Bug 1300722] Re: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a poll loop

2014-05-13 Thread Pete Woods
What I'm looking for is a way to cause this to happen by running a
single application and performing a particular action in it. Even if it
takes a number of tries that's fine. I just need to be able to trigger
somewhat reliably within a few minutes.

I know exactly the part of the codebase that is getting sent into this
loop, but I simply don't understand how it's getting there.

You can determine which application is the culprit by looking in
~/.cache/upstart/hud.log. In there you'll probably see it mentioning
an application hitting a safety value. The app will have an ID like
:1.22. If you use the application d-feet (see screenshot above) you
will be able to figure out which application it is. The IDs are
temporary, so if the window has closed, you won't be able to find out
what application it was.

When I receive a new incoming IM, I receive a notification and click to
receive the new message.

This pops open a new window which has the 2 persistent chat room windows
and an additional tab with the new IM.

After finishing that IM conversation, I click to close the new tab. The
remaining 2 tabs in that window are placed into an infinite loop, both
fighing for the top of the stack.

A stack trace via gdb when this is occuring is as follows.

I have no choice but to kill pidgin to recover.

[Bug 1314289] Re: [Precise/regression] drbd 8.4.x backport breaks existing clusters

2014-05-13 Thread Jan Vollendorf
Hello,

I checked this on two clusters with two nodes each.
All systems running a 3.2.0-61-generic kernel.
After installing drbd8-utils (2:8.4.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.2) the problem is solved
for me.

Testcases:
  - With new tools, old kernel module loaded:
* drbdsetup xml net should output xml help instead of an error = OK
* /sbin/drbdadm --version does not fail to print the version.= OK
* service drbd stop should work without errors
   = OK
* service corosync restart on a cluster should work without loosing the
local mirror. = OK
Additional Tests:
* following Transitions and status checks by pacemaker are working again
now:
# unconfigured - Secondary
# secondary - Primary
# primary - secondary
# secondary - unconfigured

[Bug 1319105] Re: Cisco AM10 no longer switches mode

As a workaround, I downgraded usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data to
the saucy versions:

usb-modeswitch_1.2.3+repack0-1ubuntu3_amd64.deb
usb-modeswitch-data_20120815-2_all.deb

I've attached the usb_modeswitch log from this, which worked.

[Bug 1306629] Re: [SRU] SDL_syswm.h can't find mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h

2014-05-13 Thread Scott Howard
The patch you showed was incorrect, it was corrected by a later patch:
https://hg.libsdl.org/SDL/rev/ede9d13dad21

I'll update the SRU template to reflect that.

** Description changed:

I believe something is wrong with MIR support. A daily build of openmw
  just failed with:

  /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_syswm.h:97:44: fatal error:
mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h: No such file or directory
   #include mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h

  In SDL_syswm.h:
  #if defined(SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER_MIR)
  #include mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h
  #endif

  the file is:
  /usr/include/mirclient/mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h

http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contentskeywords=mir_client_library.hmode=exactfilenamesuite=trustyarch=any

  openmw buildlog:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/172588668/buildlog_ubuntu-trusty-i386.openmw_0.29%2Bgit20140411.77-0~ubuntu14.04.1_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz

it built successfully until the fix for bug #1295389 libsdl2 commit hit
  that enabled mir.

Assigning high since it has the potentially to cause a large number of
  FTBFS in the archive.

  SRU Info:

*Note* This patch has landed in libsdl2 upstream:
+ https://hg.libsdl.org/SDL/rev/ede9d13dad21
+ (which also reverts https://hg.libsdl.org/SDL/rev/274017846e73)

  1) The issue is we include mir_client_library.h, meaning everything that
compiles sdl2 apps will need to include this as well. So we need to forward
declare the structs so we don't need to include the mir header.
  2) A simple way to test the current Mir problem:
  http://paste.ubuntu.com/7271077/

- 3) Regression potential: Very low, this is a 1 line patch, that adds the
- MIR_CFLAGS to the SDL_CFLAGS.
+ 3) Regression potential: Low - upstream has had this change for a month
+ without problem

[Bug 296867]

2014-05-13 Thread Guillaume-desmottes
(In reply to comment #81)
I've made most of the changes I wanted but haven't had time to test them
 yet. Use at own risk:

 http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~smcv/telepathy-gabble/log/?h=untested-otr

I did not manage to start an OTR session with this branch.
The '/otr start' command was displaying OTR:$blob in empathy-chat.

I did manage to start a session using Xavier's branch but noticed the following
bug:
- Start an OTR session between Empathy and Pidgin
- In Pidgin using the OTR menu pick End private conversation
- Try sending a message from Empathy. The message doesn't reach Pidgin and this
error is displayed: Your message was not sent because
cassidy-te...@jabber.belnet.be closed their connection. Either close your

[Bug 600728] Re: gave up waiting for root device (temporary, intermittent)

2014-05-13 Thread steven20
WUHU !!!

finaly fixed the error.
It seems that the hardware combination caused the Problem.
I was Using an very old Transcend SSD (TS128GSSD25S-M) with a very new
Mainboard ASRock B85M Pro4 ( Intel B85M Chipset as the name says) + I3 Cpu.
After cloneing the System with clonezilla to a Samsung 840 Evo (250GB) i now
booted arround 30 times with no problems.

I don't think that the Transcend SSD alone is the Problem cause the disk
worked on an Intel Atom Mainboard + Ubuntu Server 12.?04? without
problems, so it seems the combination (Maybe the UEFI Bios ?) leads to
the Problem.

regards
Steven

[Bug 1319108] [NEW] systemtap-sdt-dev does not build on aarch64

2014-05-13 Thread larsr
Public bug reported:

When compiling systemtap-sdt-dev on a 64-bit ARM, platform aarch64,
the configure step fails, because aarch64 is not listed in config.sub

If you add aarch64 to the list of platforms on line 249

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
branches/ubuntu/saucy/systemtap/saucy/view/head:/config.sub#L249

then it will work.

Probably config.sub is auto-generated, and the fix should be upstreamed
to somewhere else...

[Bug 1265885] Re: regression: SynPS/2 touchpad detected as DLL060A:00 pointer

2014-05-13 Thread Warren Turkal
So I loaded the module, there are no messages generated in dmesg as a
result.

Also, I ran this in another window while loading the module just to make sure:
# udevadm monitor
monitor will print the received events for:
UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing
KERNEL - the kernel uevent

KERNEL[1230.288508] add /module/hid_multitouch (module)
KERNEL[1230.288646] add /bus/hid/drivers/hid-multitouch (drivers)
UDEV [1230.289076] add /module/hid_multitouch (module)
UDEV [1230.289442] add /bus/hid/drivers/hid-multitouch (drivers)

Looks like the only udev events are related to the module and driver
load. There's nothing about the input device itself.

Also, no new devices show in xinput list.

2014-05-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 201750] Re: Cannot remount loopfiles

2014-05-13 Thread Noorez
Looks like a related (possibly smae) has emerged in ubuntu 14.10

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lupin/+bug/1317437

It seems that not only does the host file system have to be rw but also
the loop file. The ticket above shows that by changing the kernel
parameter from ro-rw corrects the issue in that ticket.

[Bug 1315501] Re: cloud-init does not use interfaces.d in trusty

2014-05-13 Thread Scott Moser
Your 'ask' comment at

https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/28297/cloud-init-nonet-waiting-and-fails/

/etc/network/interfaces shows:
  # Injected by Nova on instance boot

If that entry was injected by nova, then there really isnt much or anything
cloud-init can do about this.
This is a good example about why host injection is inherently flawed. The
right fix for your problem is then to have nova realize that 'eth0' already
existed, and remove /etc/interfaces.d/. That is clearly brittle and requires
updating your hypervisor/cloud which is quite unreasonable.

if cloud-init reads network-interfaces from config drive, then it should
handle eth0 correctl (ie, we need to fix that).

[Bug 1317305] Re: -Wno-format is not honored

2014-05-13 Thread Steve Beattie
Here is an updated version of the gcc-default-format-security.diff patch
that enables -Wformat=1 and -Wformat-security by default, but honors
users' -Wformat arguments to override the default.

This fixes the following gcc testcase failures:

-FAIL: gcc.dg/format/nonlit-2.c -Wformat=0 non-literal (test for warnings,

Note that this patch is for gcc-4.9 and applies on top of the modified
patch to enable -fstack-protector-strong by default in bug 1317307. I'll
prepare a patch for gcc-4.8 for use in an SRU in a bit.

I've also added tests to lp:qa-regression-testing to ensure that passed
command line arguments are honored over the default.

Re: [Bug 1318477] Re: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds

2014-05-13 Thread Dan Poler
I will test but it will be several days before I am able to do so - I'm at
ODS and the laptop is my daily driver.

It has previously had Saucy installed.

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, Joseph Salisbury joseph.salisb...@canonical.com
wrote:

Has this system ever had any prior Ubuntu releases installed on it, or
 is Trusty the first?

Can you also see if this issue happens while the system is connected to
 AC power for 24 hours?

There are a couple of initial triaging steps we can perform. One would
be to test the latest mainline kernel to see if this bug is already
fixed upstream. If it is not, we should also find out if this is a
regression. If it is a regression, we can bisect to find the commit
 that introduced this.

So in addition to testing this bug with AC power, can you also test the
latest mainline kernel, which can be downloaded from:
 http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15-rc5-utopic/

Just let me know if you have any issues or questions installing that
 kernel.

 Title:
XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds

 Status in Dell Sputnik:
   New
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:
   This feels related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-
sputnik/+bug/1161962 but there are some differences making me think
that a new bug is warranted - the aforementioned link relates to Saucy
on an XPS 13; my instance is Trusty on an XPS 15. The aforementioned
link indicates a wait of about 40 minutes to resume; this one occurs
   after 24 hours + 3-5 seconds.

System is an XPS 15 9530, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. Trusty, fresh install
from scratch (not an upgrade over Saucy).

Symptoms: The system will wake itself from sleep after very nearly
   exactly 24 hours, + / - 10 seconds or so. /var/log/pm-suspend.log will
   show this:

   [...]
Sat May 10 22:08:49 MDT 2014: performing suspend
   Sun May 11 22:08:54 MDT 2014: Awake.
   [..]

In this case the system has resumed after 24 hours and 5 seconds with
no user request to do so.

Steps to reproduce: Suspend machine by closing lid. The system can be
plugged in to charge while it is suspended, and then subsequently
unplugged, but the suspend occurs on battery power, and when the
resume occurs the system is also not plugged in. I have not tested
other permutations. No other action is necessary. The system will
randomly resume 24 hours + 3-5 seconds later.

   Observed behavior: As noted above
Desired behavior: The system does not resume until the lid is opened.

Other notes: I have observed this occurring with the laptop in a sleeve
while on an airplane, which is concerning.

[Bug 1318477] Re: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds

2014-05-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Some additional requests. Can you review your BIOS settings to see if
there is an automatic wakeup set there?

Also, is the system waking up 24 hours from the time it is suspended, or
does it wakeup at the same time of day? Just trying to see if an
external USB device is waking it at a specific time.

One last thing, the Firmware Test Suite can dump some CMOS data to see
if wakeup is set. If possible, can you install fwts and run the
following:

sudo fwts cmosdump

Then attach the output.

[Bug 1317307] Re: Make -fstack-protector-strong the default in gcc 4.9

2014-05-13 Thread Steve Beattie
Attached is an updated version of gcc-default-ssp.diff that enables
-fstack-protector-strong by default for gcc-4.9. In addition to enabling
the default, it fixes the following testsuite failures:

-FAIL: gcc.dg/fstack-protector-strong.c scan-assembler-times stack_chk_fail 10
-FAIL: g++.dg/fstack-protector-strong.C -std=gnu++98  scan-assembler-times
stack_chk_fail 2
-FAIL: g++.dg/fstack-protector-strong.C -std=gnu++11  scan-assembler-times
stack_chk_fail 2
-FAIL: g++.dg/fstack-protector-strong.C -std=gnu++1y  scan-assembler-times
stack_chk_fail 2

I did need to update one of the tests that was generating an additional
test failure; I'll attach that patch in just a second.

I've added tests to lp:qa-regression-testing to verify that -fstack-
protector-strong works and is the default option for utopic's compiler.

[Bug 1303736] Re: Black screen after login from suspend in Xubuntu 14.04

2014-05-13 Thread Minium
I confirm the fix in post #56 as well. Although the login mask does not
appear instantly, it does so in the correct fashion.

[Bug 1283459] Re: Please merge xscreensaver (5.26-1) from Debian unstable

2014-05-13 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Ok, so:

* I reverted the changes to the Vcs-* fields
* I reverted the changes to the splits
* given the above, I removed the old Breaks/Replaces fileds and put a new
set.

The d/xscreensaver.dirs is necessary per bug #129769.

I hope all is fine, especially the new Breaks/Replaces fileds!
(maybe the changelog is bad writted, I couldn't find anything better...)

Thanks Martin for the review!

** Patch added: debdiff from debian/5.26-1 (for utopic)

[Bug 1315400] Re: Installer crashed

2014-05-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 12.04 is 12.04.4. Please try installing from that
version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue.
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1315501] Re: cloud-init does not use interfaces.d in trusty

2014-05-13 Thread David Moreau Simard
Hi Scott,

You're correct, we use config drive in our implementation
(using_config_drive=True for nova-compute).
The template used by nova is located here:
https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/master/nova/virt/interfaces.template

I also see your point that Nova could also implement a fix for this. I
will check with them and refer to this bug.

[Bug 1289825] Re: Xubuntu installer crasher

2014-05-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry
your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!
