[Bug 1300722] Re: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a poll loop
I just experienced this bug for the 2nd time in 8 days. The system had been on for an hour or so and I was playing chess using an app that runs under WINE that I use regularly without the 100% CPU problem occurring. Thunderbird and Firefox were open but I was not interacting with them. The System Updater notified me of an available update and I went ahead and let it update while I was playing chess. Shortly afterward, the cooling fan came on and I checked the System Monitor and found one CPU pegged at 100% (see screen shot 1). The process consuming 25% of the CPU was hud-service. (One of four cores running at 100% = 25%). I glanced at some logs bug didn't know what to look for. Rebooted Ubuntu and CPU activity is back to normal. I'm going to scan my system log for clues but don't know what to look for; if I find something suspicious I'll post it here. You can ask me to look for specific things in the log and I'll be glad to do that. 2 screenshots attached. ?field.comment=I just experienced this bug for the 2nd time in 8 days. [Bug 1318477] Re: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
Has this system ever had any prior Ubuntu releases installed on it, or is Trusty the first? Can you also see if this issue happens while the system is connected to AC power for 24 hours? There are a couple of initial triaging steps we can perform. One would be to test the latest mainline kernel to see if this bug is already fixed upstream. If it is not, we should also find out if this is a regression. If it is a regression, we can bisect to find the commit that introduced this. So in addition to testing this bug with AC power, can you also test the latest mainline kernel, which can be downloaded from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15-rc5-utopic/ Just let me know if you have any issues or questions installing that kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318477 Title: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1318477/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1035701] Re: grilo plugins should be enabled in Totem
I tried to make exactly that point: grilo works fine with rhythmbox (on trusty, and ignoring a UI issue with expanding an item in the tree view that has no child containers). If totem segfaults, that must be either due to bad grilo integration or totem uses some grilo plugins that are not used by rhythmbox and those segfault. In the first case, someone should fix totem or totem can't use grilo. In the second case, those plugins should be identified and fixed/removed. In any case, throwing grilo out of [all?] major music players like Ubuntu used to do is a bad idea IMHO. I've read numerous complaints about missing DLNA functionality in Ubuntu. Even getting rid of every grilo plugin other than DLNA and just using that in rhythmbox is an improvement over Trusty, where grilo exists in Universe but no[?] common music player supports it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035701 Title: grilo plugins should be enabled in Totem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1035701/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1303962] Re: please integrate mediascanner2 and media-hub with apparmor
Regarding embedded album art: well, that is what the mediascanner is for no? An app can always read its own files (eg, a music app that downloads to its own directory) but if the file is stored in the global media collection (ie, ~/Music), then mediascanner can scan it, extract the album art and cache it. The app requests the metadata via libmediascanner which uses the aforementioned DBus API, the DBus service asks the user if it is ok (or pulls the previous answer from cache) and if it is ok, gives libmediascanner what it needs to then retrieve it from the thumbnailer (which in turn would get it from the mediascanner cache). Perhaps it is easier for the DBus service to give the scanned embedded album art to libmediascanner by passing an fd. Either way, it should fit the paradigm. [Bug 1300722] Re: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a poll loop
What I'm looking for is a way to cause this to happen by running a single application and performing a particular action in it. Even if it takes a number of tries that's fine. I just need to be able to trigger somewhat reliably within a few minutes. I know exactly the part of the codebase that is getting sent into this loop, but I simply don't understand how it's getting there. You can determine which application is the culprit by looking in ~/.cache/upstart/hud.log. In there you'll probably see it mentioning an application hitting a safety value. The app will have an ID like :1.22. If you use the application d-feet (see screenshot above) you will be able to figure out which application it is. The IDs are temporary, so if the window has closed, you won't be able to find out what application it was. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300722 Title: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a poll loop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hud/+bug/1300722/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.15 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. [Bug 1306629] Re: [SRU] SDL_syswm.h can't find mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h
The patch you showed was incorrect, it was corrected by a later patch: https://hg.libsdl.org/SDL/rev/ede9d13dad21 I'll update the SRU template to reflect that. ** Description changed: I believe something is wrong with MIR support. A daily build of openmw just failed with: /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_syswm.h:97:44: fatal error: mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h: No such file or directory #include mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h In SDL_syswm.h: #if defined(SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER_MIR) #include mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h #endif the file is: /usr/include/mirclient/mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contentskeywords=mir_client_library.hmode=exactfilenamesuite=trustyarch=any openmw buildlog: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/172588668/buildlog_ubuntu-trusty-i386.openmw_0.29%2Bgit20140411.77-0~ubuntu14.04.1_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz it built successfully until the fix for bug #1295389 libsdl2 commit hit that enabled mir. Assigning high since it has the potentially to cause a large number of FTBFS in the archive. So we need to forward declare the structs so we don't need to include the mir header. 2) A simple way to test the current Mir problem: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7271077/ - 3) Regression potential: Very low, this is a 1 line patch, that adds the - MIR_CFLAGS to the SDL_CFLAGS. + 3) Regression potential: Low - upstream has had this change for a month + without problem -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1306629 Title: [SRU] SDL_syswm.h can't find mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1306629/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 600728] Re: gave up waiting for root device (temporary, intermittent)
WUHU !!! finaly fixed the error. It seems that the hardware combination caused the Problem. I was Using an very old Transcend SSD (TS128GSSD25S-M) with a very new Mainboard ASRock B85M Pro4 ( Intel B85M Chipset as the name says) + I3 Cpu. After cloneing the System with clonezilla to a Samsung 840 Evo (250GB) i now booted arround 30 times with no problems. I don't think that the Transcend SSD alone is the Problem cause the disk worked on an Intel Atom Mainboard + Ubuntu Server 12.?04? without problems, so it seems the combination (Maybe the UEFI Bios ?) leads to the Problem. regards Steven -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600728 Title: gave up waiting for root device (temporary, intermittent) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/600728/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1315501] Re: cloud-init does not use interfaces.d in trusty
Your 'ask' comment at https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/28297/cloud-init-nonet-waiting-and-fails/ /etc/network/interfaces shows: # Injected by Nova on instance boot If that entry was injected by nova, then there really isnt much or anything cloud-init can do about this. This is a good example about why host injection is inherently flawed. The right fix for your problem is then to have nova realize that 'eth0' already existed, and remove /etc/interfaces.d/. That is clearly brittle and requires updating your hypervisor/cloud which is quite unreasonable. if cloud-init reads network-interfaces from config drive, then it should handle eth0 correctl (ie, we need to fix that). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315501 Title: cloud-init does not use interfaces.d in trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-init/+bug/1315501/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1318477] Re: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
I will test but it will be several days before I am able to do so - I'm at ODS and the laptop is my daily driver. It has previously had Saucy installed. On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, Joseph Salisbury joseph.salisb...@canonical.com wrote: Has this system ever had any prior Ubuntu releases installed on it, or is Trusty the first? -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318477 Title: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds Status in Dell Sputnik: New Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This feels related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell- sputnik/+bug/1161962 but there are some differences making me think that a new bug is warranted - the aforementioned link relates to Saucy on an XPS 13; my instance is Trusty on an XPS 15. Trusty, fresh install from scratch (not an upgrade over Saucy). Symptoms: The system will wake itself from sleep after very nearly exactly 24 hours, + / - 10 seconds or so. /var/log/pm-suspend.log will show this: [...] Sat May 10 22:08:49 MDT 2014: performing suspend Sun May 11 22:08:54 MDT 2014: Awake. The system can be plugged in to charge while it is suspended, and then subsequently unplugged, but the suspend occurs on battery power, and when the resume occurs the system is also not plugged in. I have not tested other permutations. No other action is necessary. The system will randomly resume 24 hours + 3-5 seconds later. [Bug 1318477] Re: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
Some additional requests. Can you review your BIOS settings to see if there is an automatic wakeup set there? Also, is the system waking up 24 hours from the time it is suspended, or does it wakeup at the same time of day? Just trying to see if an external USB device is waking it at a specific time. [Bug 1317307] Re: Make -fstack-protector-strong the default in gcc 4.9
Attached is an updated version of gcc-default-ssp.diff that enables -fstack-protector-strong by default for gcc-4.9. In addition to enabling the default, it fixes the following testsuite failures: -FAIL: gcc.dg/fstack-protector-strong.c scan-assembler-times stack_chk_fail 10 -FAIL: g++.dg/fstack-protector-strong.C -std=gnu++98 scan-assembler-times stack_chk_fail 2 -FAIL: g++.dg/fstack-protector-strong.C -std=gnu++11 scan-assembler-times stack_chk_fail 2 -FAIL: g++.dg/fstack-protector-strong.C -std=gnu++1y scan-assembler-times stack_chk_fail 2 I did need to update one of the tests that was generating an additional test failure; I'll attach that patch in just a second. I've added tests to lp:qa-regression-testing to verify that -fstack- protector-strong works and is the default option for utopic's compiler. ** Patch added: gcc-default-ssp.diff https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.9/+bug/1317307/+attachment/4111584/+files/gcc-default-ssp.diff ** Changed in: gcc-4.9 (Ubuntu) Assignee: Steve Beattie (sbeattie) = (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1317307 Title: Make -fstack-protector-strong the default in gcc 4.9 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.9/+bug/1317307/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
