[Bug 925048]

2014-08-13 Thread Kel-p-doran
My computer survived the night with the latest patchset that made it
into 3.17, so I am marking this as fixed.

[Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2014-08-13 Thread Siu On Chan
@vworld4u-g #159: I believe you face the same problem as I do, namely
initial authentication error. To confirm, run dmesg | tail -20 at the
terminal, and you'll see wlan0: deauthenticating from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
by local choice (Reason: 3...). (Sometimes you'll see Reason 2).

@Bruce #162: My limited Linux knowledge suggests that you may want to
run sudo depmod after make and sudo make install, but I could be
wrong.

Finally, let me say a few words about my experience with Larry's git in
#156. The first time I tried the new driver, the connection felt very
fast. But then it went back to normal (which is a little slow) the next
day.

Also, the initial authentication error still keeps coming back (the
problem I mentioned in the 1st paragraph). Almost every time I boot my
machine, it takes 2-15 mins of repeatedly removing and inserting the
rtl8192ee module, plus repeatedly killing wpa_supplicant and
NetworkManager. I also tried ips=0 as suggested in #163 with no luck.

In case you wonder, I'm using the 3.16 kernel from Ubuntu PPA, and I've
blacklisted the old r8192ee module from the staging directory.

Alright, I didn't read Makefile, which automatically runs depmod for
you. Please ignore what I said about depmod.

@Daniel:

did a bug that affect different version of the same packages and
different version of the kernel must be considered the same?

Let me know so I will mark correctly next time I have to report a bug.

Thanks
Stefano

[Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2014-08-13 Thread vworl...@gmail.com
Hi Siu On Chan,

Thanks for your response. I am too not a big Linux dev kind of person,
but I am using Ubuntu for last 5 years without any dissatisfaction. In
fact I love Ubuntu for its usefulness. With respect to error I am
getting

make -C /lib/modules/3.13.9/build M=/home/venkatesha/git/rtlwifi_new modules
make: *** /lib/modules/3.13.9/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [all] Error 2

I see that I don't have build file inside /lib/modules/3.13.9 folder in my
computer. Is it assuming this file to be present? If so, what packages bring
this build file into the system?
Somebody please advice me on this.

[Bug 1356688] [NEW] nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu7.1: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build

2014-08-13 Thread Arnau Bosch
Public bug reported:

When i updated the system to kernel 3.13.0-34, the package
nvidia-331-updates failed to build and i need to reinstall, this also
happened when i upgrated to kernel 3.13.0-33. After reinstall the nvidia
package the system rename the xorg.conf to xorg.conf.date, i need to
rename to xorg.conf to start the desktop. This also happens when i
change any option of nvidia-settings. Sometimes when i restart the
system rename another time the xorg.conf to xorg.conf.date and the
only option to start successfully the deskop is enter by the command
startx, and then reboot and work perfectly, when the nvidia driver was

[Bug 1356689] [NEW] nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu7.1: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build

2014-08-13 Thread Arnau Bosch
Public bug reported:

I'm using xubuntu 14.04, I have an sli of two gtx 770, but sli is
disabled, i'm using two monitors. When i updated the system to kernel
3.13.0-34, the package nvidia-331-updates failed to build and i need to
reinstall, this also happened when i upgrated to kernel 3.13.0-33. After
reinstall the nvidia package the system rename the xorg.conf to
xorg.conf.date, i need to rename to xorg.conf to start the desktop.
This also happens when i change any option of nvidia-settings. Sometimes
when i restart the system rename another time the xorg.conf to
xorg.conf.date and the only option to start successfully the deskop is
enter by the command startx, and then reboot and work perfectly, when
the nvidia driver was updated this happens too. I don't know if this is
a new bug.

+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * This bug is a runtime exception caused by invalid erase type.
+ * With this bug users can not erase disks with usb-creator.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Prepare an usbstick with any partition(s),
+this could be done with gparted.
+ * Launch usb-creator-gtk or usb-creator-kde.
+ * Insert the usbstick, click the button Erase Disk.
+ * It will popup an exception window with the error message similar to:
+
+ Traceback (most recent call last):
+ File format.py, line 7, in module
+ block.call_format_sync('dos', GLib.Variant('a{sv}', {'erase':
GLib.Variant('s', '')}), None)
+ gi._glib.GError: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.UDisks2.Error.Failed:
Error erasing device: Unknown or unsupported erase type `'
+
+ * Please be noted, the erase operation may still fail even with
+this bug properly fixed due to some other bugs, such as bug #1318954.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Since the erasing operation is also blocked by other bugs,
+we may not be able to verify the entire erasing operation,
+in such a case we can not promise the effect of the patch,
+and it may (although not sure to) has other side effect such as:
+ * The patch for this bug changes the erase type to zero,
+according to the UDisk2 API [1] it will erase the entire device,
+this may cause a long time to complete.

[Bug 1355591] Re: chromium-browser crashed with SIGSEGV in ShCompile()

2014-08-13 Thread Robert Bruce Park
So, I just got this crash and apport told me it couldn't report it
because this one was already reported, except this one is invalid and
the traceback failed. I'm happy to file a new one if somebody can walk
me through forcing apport to make a new report with a new traceback (and
also happy to be coached on how to ensure a useful traceback can be
created in the event that mine is also broken).

[Bug 1356428] Re: tone volume level should be reduced

2014-08-13 Thread Martti Piirainen
Tested in mako HW, image 188:

 * The system volume (set via the slider in System Settings / Sound, or
via the volume hard keys) is taken into account when playing DTMF tones.

 * The 'DTMF_VOLUME' variable in /usr/share/upstart/sessions/tone-
generator.conf is taken into account as well.

 * This is the case for the dial tones (before a call), and the local
playback of DTMF tones during a call, both when routed to earpiece or to
loudspeaker.

The default value 'DTMF_VOLUME=20' is pretty loud. If the other system-
wide volumes stay unchanged, I'd suggest a change to '10' or
thereabouts.

You can get the md5sums at http://releases.ubuntu.com/trusty/MD5SUMS

I'd recommend to burn to a DVD in accordance with this guide:

Closing this bug, since the above has nothing to do with the ubuntu-docs

Re: [Bug 1293144] Re: evolution crashes with SIGSEGV in folder_tree_maybe_expand_row() when creating new folder

2014-08-13 Thread Michael Barraclough
Hi Daniel

Thanks for noticing my comment.

I have now retested and everything seems to be working *ok*. I think
that I had not rebooted after I tested after upgrading.

Thanks for all the work you do.

I will try and find the bug report and update my comments.

 Michael,
Can you please confirm that you have installed evolution 3.10.4-0ubuntu2
 and evolution-data-server 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.2 both from the trusty-proposed
 repo?
 Best regards,
 Daniel.
