maas-cluster-register.conf will be doing a lemming dive off a high cliff
later today. This bug will still affect older versions though. Do we fix
them?

[Bug 1379727] [NEW] FFe: openssh 6.7p1

2014-10-10 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

I think it would be a good idea to upgrade utopic to OpenSSH 6.7p1,
which was released earlier this week. In particular, I'd like to have
the removal of unsafe ciphers and MACs from the default server
configuration and the support for Unix domain socket forwarding. I also
finally got round to running the upstream regression tests
automatically, which should be a useful improvement to our QA.

Here's the Debian changelog entry for the package I uploaded to unstable
yesterday. I included all the significant upstream release notes.

openssh (1:6.7p1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release (http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-6.7):
- sshd(8): The default set of ciphers and MACs has been altered to
remove unsafe algorithms. In particular, CBC ciphers and arcfour* are
disabled by default. The full set of algorithms remains available if
configured explicitly via the Ciphers and MACs sshd_config options.
- ssh(1), sshd(8): Add support for Unix domain socket forwarding. A
remote TCP port may be forwarded to a local Unix domain socket and
vice versa or both ends may be a Unix domain socket (closes: #236718).
- ssh(1), ssh-keygen(1): Add support for SSHFP DNS records for ED25519
  key types.
- sftp(1): Allow resumption of interrupted uploads.
- ssh(1): When rekeying, skip file/DNS lookups of the hostkey if it is
the same as the one sent during initial key exchange.
- sshd(8): Allow explicit ::1 and 127.0.0.1 forwarding bind addresses
when GatewayPorts=no; allows client to choose address family.
- sshd(8): Add a sshd_config PermitUserRC option to control whether
  ~/.ssh/rc is executed, mirroring the no-user-rc authorized_keys
  option.
- ssh(1): Add a %C escape sequence for LocalCommand and ControlPath that
expands to a unique identifer based on a hash of the tuple of (local
host, remote user, hostname, port). Helps avoid exceeding miserly
pathname limits for Unix domain sockets in multiplexing control paths.
- sshd(8): Make the Too many authentication failures message include
the user, source address, port and protocol in a format similar to the
  authentication success / failure messages.
- Use CLOCK_BOOTTIME in preference to CLOCK_MONOTONIC when it is
available. It considers time spent suspended, thereby ensuring
timeouts (e.g. for expiring agent keys) fire correctly (closes:
  #734553).
- Use prctl() to prevent sftp-server from accessing
  /proc/self/{mem,maps}.
  * Restore TCP wrappers support, removed upstream in 6.7. It is true that
dropping this reduces preauth attack surface in sshd. On the other
hand, this support seems to be quite widely used, and abruptly dropping
it (from the perspective of users who don't read openssh-unix-dev) could
easily cause more serious problems in practice. It's not entirely clear
what the right long-term answer for Debian is, but it at least probably
doesn't involve dropping this feature shortly before a freeze.
  * Replace patch to disable OpenSSL version check with an updated version
of Kurt Roeckx's patch from #732940 to just avoid checking the status
field.
  * Build-depend on a new enough dpkg-dev for dpkg-buildflags, rather than
simply a new enough dpkg.
  * Simplify debian/rules using /usr/share/dpkg/buildflags.mk.
  * Use Package-Type rather than XC-Package-Type, now that it is an official
field.
  * Run a subset of the upstream regression test suite at package build
time, and the rest of it under autopkgtest.

[Bug 1379761] Re: Asset compression does not happen unless debug mode is enabled

2014-10-10 Thread James Page
I'm assuming that this is something todo with how django-pyscss behaves
under DEBUG mode:

https://github.com/fusionbox/django-pyscss

specifically:

In DEBUG mode, DjangoScss will search using all of the finders to find
the file. If you are not in DEBUG mode, it assumes you have run
collectstatic and will only use staticfiles_storage to find the file.

Packaging issue I think - ipset and its associated rootwrap
configuration are not installed.

[Bug 1068756] Re: IPv6 Privacy Extensions enabled on Ubuntu Server by default

2014-10-10 Thread Scott Moser
ok. so some updates.
Ben fixed this in the cloud image build process via [1] (commit [2]), and
limited the change to utopic+.
The fix was done by adding a file /etc/sysctl.d/99-cloudimg-ipv6.conf

The problem with this change is described in bug 1352255 and bug
994931. If ipv6 addresses are already configured, then setting the
'net.ipv6.conf.all.use_tempaddr' will remove the configured addresses.

So to actually fix this right, I suggest that the build proces:
 * dpkg-divert /etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf to
/etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf.disabled
 * add a file /etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf.README that explains that and
how the user could re-enable it (un-dpkg-divert it).

[Bug 1379201] Re: openvswitch-datapath-dkms 1.4.6-0ubuntu1.12.04.3: openvswitch kernel module failed to build [error: too many arguments to function ‘ip_select_ident’]

2014-10-10 Thread Adam Conrad
This is obviously a regression in API compatibility for the kernel
itself. Marking a linux task to note that.

Now, it may be an acceptable regression in the API, but we need to grep
all dkms modules in the archive to see how many might be affected buy
this interface change and make an informed decision about possibly
reverting, not just paper over it in openvswitch and declare it a done
deal.

[Bug 1364854] Re: python-ldap is needed as a dependency of keystone

2014-10-10 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Yaguang, or anyone else affected,

Accepted keystone into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/keystone/1:2014.1.3-0ubuntu2 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1296607] Re: MIR: python-kazoo; new taskflow version needs python-kazoo from universe

2014-10-10 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed kazoo version 1.3.1-1ubuntu1 as checked into utopic. This
shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

- Kazoo provides python bindings for zookeeper
- Build-Depends: debhelper dh-python python-all python-setuptools
  python3-all python3-setuptools python-sphinx python3-sphinx
  python-gevent
- Only cryptography is hashing
- Python-provided networking
- Does not itself daemonize
- Does not itself listen on network
- No pre/post inst/rm
- No initscripts
- No dbus
- No setuid
- No binaries
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- There are tests but they aren't run during the build
- No cronjobs
- Clean build logs

- No subprocesses spawned
- No memory management
- No files opened
- Logging looks sane
- No environment variables
- No privileges operations
- No encryption, only weak password hashing
- Extensive networking, looked sane
- No temporary files
- No WebKit
- No JavaScript
- No PolicyKit

Here are some notes I collected while reviewing Kazoo in the hope they are
useful to someone:

- Connections to server are unencrypted and unauthenticated, passwords
  given in the clear
- Connection logging includes passwords
- ACL credentials are weakly salted (username only) uniterated SHA1; these
should be considered as roughly equivalent to plaintext.

Kazoo (and likely Zookeeper) should not be used over the public Internet.
Private data should probably not be stored in Zookeeper in the first
place. All protocols and configurations were designed for use in trusted
datacenters -- think of it like telnet.

I suspect everyone using Zookeeper already knows that it has no privacy or
authenticity controls and is using it in trusted data centers, private
cloud environments, or with VPN solutions that can provide privacy and
authentication.

I skipped reading sw/virtualenv.py, it had a lot of crazy things, but it
is probably not unique to this package.

Security team ACK for promoting Kazoo to main.

Thanks

2014-10-10 Thread John Manning
Hi

Nothing out of the ordinary going on here and it doesn’t happen every time.
Don’t you just love intermittent faults.

Hmm i just cant reproduce this issue :(.

Do you have multi monitors? Do you still get the crash when you have a
password? Anything else you have set up that is different then a default
install?

We have some ideas, but we cant really confirm a fix at all until we
have someone who can reproduce it!

[Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged

2014-10-10 Thread Yura
+1 to support Matthew's comment.

I'm using my laptop a lot and to avoid pain in my wrist, I'm using BT
vertical mouse and the mouse battery status is important for me...

Also, Ubuntu (more specifically user interface) is getting better and
better, that now my wife, son (12 years old) and my MOTHER IN LAW are
using it without big problems on their laptops. And I think that for
them Matthew's idea will be more understandable and welcome.

At the same time to support use case for heavily tech users, I would
recommend adding a config file to override the default behaviour to
allow setup of specific behaviours.

In this case, from my personal opinion, Ubuntu/Linux can create the
unique opportunities to serve needs of average/normal and heavily tech
users.

Matthew, thank you once again for your willing and efforts to make
Ubuntu/Linux more user friendly, and hope you will not forget about tech
users with their needs.

@Tony, right, upstart uses the original environment when re-starting
after a crash.

The command line if you want to start/re-start ofono using upstart is:

# stop ofono

Sorry I'm still stuck at 12.04.
I don't know 14.04.
I do not want to migrate to higher levels: too many bugs in migrating to
12.04, some still to be resolved like this.
I need Ubuntu only to work.
I can't risk getting stuck at other times.
I keep the access method IDE though less performant.

[Bug 1288747] Re: [334] Parts of the UI randomly flicker when moving the mouse

2014-10-10 Thread Wiktor: Nizio
It affects me on HD 4000, Ubuntu 14.10 with latest updates. Is there a
workaround I could use? Does #130, #120 or #109 apply?

I am experiencing this situation virtually every time when VirtualBox
works in full screen mode on the RIGHT monitor. (Dual monitor setup).

I have used Christopher's solution from #62, but it didn't fix it for
me.
