[Bug 1332947] Re: HDPI: unity randomly turns on large text in universal access

2014-11-03 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
I now have 3 clients (all up to date, 32 and 64 bit installations) for
whom it's happening on 14.04:

1) 24 inch 1920x1080 Samsung screen connected via HDMI (desktop)
2) 10 inch 1280x800 screen (netbook)
3) 15.6 inch 1920x1080 screen (laptop I mentioned previously)

Yet on my own 15.6 1920x1080 screen (another laptop) this never
happened. I think it's safe to assume that this has little to nothing to
do with high DPI judging by examples above. Now what we need is a way to
permanently deactivate this annoying setting so it never comes back
unless we want it to.

[Bug 1388770] [NEW] Keyboard layouts switch with delay

2014-11-03 Thread Dmitry Mukha
Public bug reported:

Impact: when typing and switching to another keyboard layout there is a
delay from 1 to 2 seconds.

Test Case:
1. Set keyboard layout to EN
2. Start typing
3. Switch to another layout by pressing the hot-key (e.g. to RU)
4. Continue typing right after the switch - the first 1-3 characters are still
in EN keyboard layout

This happens from time to time. It feel like the layout is cached or
something and when switching HDD indicator sometimes lights up.

Output of xev when the switch hotkey is pressed once (Alt+Shift):

keycode 64 = (keysym 0xffe9, Alt_L), state = 0x0
keycode 50 = (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L), state = 0x8
keycode 50 = (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L), state = 0x9
keycode 64 = (keysym 0xffe9, Alt_L), state = 0x8

[Bug 1387959] Re: [TOPBLOCKER] unity8 crash in image krillin rtm 139

2014-11-03 Thread Michał Sawicz
I was only able to reproduce the thread pounding on the phone, neither
X11, Mir desktop session or the emulator have shown this same behaviour.

On the device, however, this is happening right from the start. The
incomplete backtrace also suggests this is triggered from the android
side, IIUC.

The only way to connect to this system is via a tap-interface. This host is a

[Bug 1388276] Re: 14.10 about 2 to 3 times slower to perform concurrent tasks

2014-11-03 Thread Emmanuel Stapf [ES]
Unfortunately I cannot upgrade the bios of this machine due to lack of
physical access to it. However I doubt that the bios (updated or not)
should cause such a slow down. Also note that this happens on a
different machine as well for which I'm going to add the bios
information to this report.

[Bug 1366538] Re: Synchronisation/close /dev/sdi: i/o error on target host

2014-11-03 Thread Martien
Please remove the Invalid status from this ticket. I can confirm that
this is a linux kernel issue. This happened to me:

1) Attached a external USB harddrive (an 'oldie': the Lacie 250GB) to PC
running Ubuntu 14.04.1 with latest kernel update installed.
2) Formatted the harddrive to ext4, already seeing end_request: critical
target error, dev sdX, sector 0 kernel messages.
3) Installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 to the USB harddrive (by booting the Ubuntu 14.04.1
live installer from a USB stick).
4) Booted from the USB harddrive - no problems at all.
5) Updated ONLY the linux-* packages of the Ubuntu running on the USB harddrive.
6) Rebooted the USB harddrive (which auto-selects the latest kernel version in
grub), and the filesystem got completely corruppted.

Please note that a VFAT filesystem doesn't get corrupted, but the
end_request: critical target error, dev sdX, sector 0 messages also
appear in the syslog.

Also tested the following:
1) Ubuntu 14.10 - same issue.
2) openSUSE 13.2 Factory (latest live version) - same issue.

Searching the internet showed that other distributions have the same issue,
e.g.:
- Raspberry Pi: https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/703
- Ubuntu 14.04:
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/156704/cannot-mount-fresh-partition-twice
- Ubuntu 14.04: with kernel version .35: Bug #1368299
- Xubuntu 14.04: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2243515
- I also came accros Arch-Linux and Debian-Linux pages describing the same
error, but can't find them atm, sorry for that.

If you need more details, please let me know, I will be happy to provide
them.

[Bug 1308530] Re: Cannot login after an upgrade from Saucy to Trusty with Ubiquity and encrypted home directory

2014-11-03 Thread Saidulu Alli
Is there any workaround for this issue? I have already upgraded from
12.04.05 to 14.04.1. But unable to log in into ubuntu after upgrade.
Screen is flashing for 2 seconds and prompting to enter user name and
password again.

But I am able to login through CTRL+ALT+F1 using same user name and
password.

Is there any work around to login using GUI.

[Bug 1388793] [NEW] unbuildable due to new libghc-binary-dev

2014-11-03 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

The elderly version of sbuild in launchpad-buildd resolves build-
dependencies a little bit differently from the version in Debian. This
causes yi to fail to build as it pulls in the standalone libghc-binary-
dev rather than the one provided by ghc, and is apparently incompatible
with the former:

  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/188847495/buildlog_ubuntu-vivid-
amd64.yi_0.7.1-5_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz

From a bit of poking around in the upstream git repository, I think this
will be fixed by upgrading to yi 0.10.0 or newer. For the time being,
though, I think the best trade-off is to temporarily demote this to
vivid-proposed so that the rest of the current Haskell transition can
proceed.

[Bug 1385630] Re: systemd 215 hangs during boot

2014-11-03 Thread Martin Pitt
Yes, it's certainly a race condition of some sort. Unfortunately quite
impossible to debug remotely as there are no available logs/kernel
traces :-( SysRQ missing is also a bit unhelpful there (yes, it's
usually Alt+PrintScr); does that work if boot works normally? If it just
doesn't work with that hang, then the kernel is so thoroughly locked up
that not even SysRQ helps. Maybe try with a different keyboard?

And why systemd 208 was always successful, but 215 not?

Well, that's exactly the $10,000 question that this report is about :-)
It has slightly different udev rules and does different things at
bootup, but there's been a lot of changes between those versions.

Do you get the hang if you boot without quiet and also without
splash? That's text-mode only and might be a bit faster again.

[Bug 1388139] Re: package udev 204-5ubuntu20.7 failed to install/upgrade: postinst segfault

2014-11-03 Thread Martin Pitt
 I think I may be 'missing' /bin/udevadm ?

Indeed, not sure why. Even if udev failed to configure it should still
be unpacked. What's the output of dpkg -s udev | grep Status:?

Your log now shows:
 /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/udev: 2: set: Illegal option -t

Can you please show what line 2 is? The sed should have changed it to
set -x, if it's something else can you please manually edit it to
that?

** Description changed:

Network-manager-openvpn leaks while connecting. Maybe that is intended
behavior when activating a VPN-connection manually but it also leaks
when Automatically connect to VPN when using this connection is
  checked.
+

  Verfied the following way:
  1. Set up a VPN that connects via UDP (verify it).
  2. Configure a Wifi network that blocks UDP, check Automatically connect to
VPN... and preselect your special VPN.
  3. Connect to that newly configured Wifi network.
  4. Browse the internet.

  2. Start the Wifi network that uses the Automatically connect... VPN...
feature.
  3. Go back to the terminal press enter.

[Bug 1388799] [NEW] recutils has decryption features compiled out in utopic leaving rec files prepared in trusty inaccessible

2014-11-03 Thread Sergio Callegari

Recutils should include features to encrypt/decrypt specific fields.
These operations are described in the recfix manual

[Bug 1041790]

2014-11-03 Thread Josh Glover
I am also experiencing this, on a Gentoo system running on a ThinkPad
T440s. I'm not doing anything related to XBMC, simply using xrandr for
multihead. The interesting thing is that DRI works fine on my laptop
screen (glxgears reports 60fps, which is the refresh rate of my screen),
but breaks when I move a window trying to use DRI (e.g. Chrome,
glxgears) to the external monitor connected to the mini Display Port
output.

I see this stuff in dmesg:

[ 3561.424762] [drm:ring_stuck] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait on blitter ring
[ 3561.424770] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error

stack, including userspace.
[ 3561.424774] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org
against DRI - DRM/Intel
[ 3561.424776] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right
component if it's not a kernel issue.
[ 3561.424778] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so
please always attach it.
[ 3566.422957] [drm:ring_stuck] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait on blitter ring

[ 3575.423680] [drm:ring_stuck] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait on blitter ring

Seems like the same issue. I'm trying to downgrade X, mesa, et al., to
try and get the system back in working order.

mode (Le téléphone est en mode silencieux in the attached screenshot
which is correct and same status in the indicator) for the toggle button
in system settings shows that silent mode is disabled.

[Bug 1388769] Re: incomplete boot of lubuntu-14.10 with all kernels 3.18

2014-11-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1388769/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-03 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification:
+
+ Impact: Many users expect the possibility to use the DP1.2 MST feature which
+ enables them to use a number of different display setups: daisy-chaining
+ DP1.2 displays, some 4K displays appearing as 2 separate displays, 3D
displays.
+ This however is not supported in Ubuntu stable kernel.
+
+ Fix: A series of 18 cherry-picks from v3.17 kernel backported to v3.16 by
+ the original author of the feature: David Airlie.
+
+ Regression Potential: These patches were merged upstream in v3.17 without any
+ reported regressions.
+
+ Original description:
+
I have two recent DisplayPort monitors, both supporting the 1.2 version
of the standard and one containing an MST hub (DELL 2913WM).

I have an Intel Haswell based NUC connected over mini-displayport to the
display containing the hub, then the second display is plugged in that
  one over DisplayPort.

DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled on the display containing the hub and the
second display lights up fine but just works as a clone of the first
display, without ever showing up in xrandr, dmesg or any other useful
  logs I could find.

My understanding of MST is that the second display should show up as DP2
on my laptop so I can configure it as I would any other display.

UPDATE: Updated the bug report after it was pointed out that the
original test hardware, a Lenovo x230 isn't DP 1.2 capable. The same
test on hardware also fails, due to missing support for MST in the
  driver.

[Bug 1388817] [NEW] Backlight brightness problem with Thinkpad T440S

2014-11-03 Thread Jingguo Yao
Public bug reported:

At the beginning, I have the following four problems:

1. After every boot, the brightness is set to maximum.
2. The brightness can't be adjusted smoothly. Only 4 brightnesses can be
achieved with Fn keys.
3. After recovering from dimming, the brightness is set to maximum.
4. The following error message is printed during the boot:
[ 12.843633] thinkpad_acpi: Unsupported brightness interface, please contact
ibm-acpi-de...@lists.sourceforge.net

The following workaround fixes 1 for me.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/151651/brightness-is-reset-to-maximum-on-every-restart

I add acpi_backlight=vendor kernel parameter according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight. This fixes 2 and 3
for me.

But 4 still exists.

[Bug 1388817] Re: Backlight brightness problem with Thinkpad T440S

2014-11-03 Thread Jingguo Yao
** Description changed:

At the beginning, I have the following four problems:

  1. After every boot, the brightness is set to maximum.
  2. The brightness can't be adjusted smoothly. Only 4 brightnesses can be
achieved with Fn keys.
- 3. After recovering from dimming, the brightness is set to maximum.
+ 3. After recovering from screen dimming and system suspend, the brightness is
set to maximum.
  4. The following error message is printed during the boot:
[ 12.843633] thinkpad_acpi: Unsupported brightness interface, please contact
ibm-acpi-de...@lists.sourceforge.net

The following workaround fixes 1 for me.

http://askubuntu.com/questions/151651/brightness-is-reset-to-maximum-on-every-restart

I add acpi_backlight=vendor kernel parameter according to
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight. This fixes 2 and 3
  for me.

  But 4 still exists.

[Bug 1384250] Re: Issue with windows not displaying in Ubuntu Trusty 14.04

2014-11-03 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
I can not reproduce this. Pivot table opens in front of LibreCalc
window, don't see any problem. :( Maybe this is not direct metacity
bug...

Ubuntu in default session does not use metacity. What session do you
use? If default then this could be bug in compiz.

Indeed. I thought that lightdm couldn't be used with plasma 5, for whatever
reason, I guess I was just wrong. Thanks.

[Bug 1388804] Re: Silent mode status and message out of sync

2014-11-03 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
$ gdbus call -y -d org.freedesktop.Accounts -o
/org/freedesktop/Accounts/User32011 -m org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get
com.ubuntu.touch.AccountsService.Sound SilentMode
(true,)

** Description changed:

  krillin #140

- I didn't find any good test case to reproduce this but it happens when
- you play with silent mode in the indicator and in system-settings. At
- some point in system-settings the message says the device is in silent
- mode (Le téléphone est en mode silencieux in the attached screenshot
- which is correct and same status in the indicator) for the toggle button
- in system settings shows that silent mode is disabled.
+ Test Case:
+ 1. Disable silent mode from system-settings/sound.
+ - Verify that silent mode is off in the indicator and system-settings
+ - Verify that there is no message saying that silent mode is enabled in
system-settings/sound
+ 2. Open the sound indicator
+ 3. Enable silent mode
+
+ Actual Result:
+ In system-settings the message says the device is in silent mode (Le
téléphone est en mode silencieux in the attached screenshot which is correct
and same status in the indicator) for the toggle button in system settings
shows that silent mode is disabled.

[Bug 1388825] [NEW] expand_ppa_line function removed from ppa

2014-11-03 Thread Peter
Public bug reported:

The following change removes the expand_ppa_line function, without any
mention elsewhere.

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/software-
properties/main/revision/904#softwareproperties/ppa.py

I don't know if this is intended, if so: shouldn't this change have been
done in a non BC breaking way, by first deprecating the function?

2014-11-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
It appears the .deb file is corrupt.

You may need to run the following:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package.

If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as Confirmed
