Same issue appeard after upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10; bug:

I just wanted to add another data point -- I migrated my old WinXP VM

passthrough is not working -- Same libvirt XML definition file. Tried
removing and re-adding with no luck.

[Bug 1395343] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic suspend/resume not working for my Laptop

2014-11-22 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic suspend/resume is not working for my Laptop. I
first tried with the Live CD, on failing that, and thinking that suspend
might need some disk to write to for the suspend info, I did a HD
installation. But still, suspend/resume is still not working.

On second attempt (after HD installation), I switched to console and
close my Laptop lid. It suspended well, as it has always been. On
resume, I see the repeating errors of `sda1` soft reset failure (or
something like that). Minutes later, I start to see all kinds of disk
related errors, disk sector writing error, ext4 journal error, etc.

I thus think the reason of `resume` not working is that the HD is not
waken up.

This is Acer Aspire AS5536, with XUbuntu 14.10 Utopic.

Any more info that I can provide?

Thanks

[Bug 1395271] [NEW] USB 1 and USB 2 scanners fail when connected to USB 3 ports

2014-11-22 Thread Technical Support
Public bug reported:

Plugging a number of USB 1 and USB 2 scanners into the USB 2 port of
various computers works as expected. Moving the scanners to the USB 3
port of the same computers causes the scanners to stop working. The
scanners are recognized by sane-find-scanner, but fail to scan. The
difference appears to be the USB 2 ports using ehci-pci and the USB 3
ports using xhci_hcd.

The problem is becoming more serious as new computers come out with only
USB 3 ports and no option to disable xhci_hcd in the bios.

Is there a workaround or fix for this problem?

Re: [Bug 1393160] Re: Backlight control not working; but entries in /sys/class/backlight.. Vendor: American Megatrends Inc.. Version: 5.6.5

2014-11-22 Thread Martin
I'm sorry but I'm not sure I fully understand the instructions... I'm
really bad at computing :(

So just to make sure... I have to download this one:

linux-headers-3.18.0-031800rc5-generic_3.18.0-031800rc5.201411162035_amd64.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.18-rc5-vivid/linux-headers-3.18.0-031800rc5-generic_3.18.0-031800rc5.201411162035_amd64.deb
then install it with sudo dpkg -i

and that's it ?

Or do I have to install
linux-image-3.18.0-031800rc5-generic_3.18.0-031800rc5.201411162035_amd64.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.18-rc5-vivid/linux-image-3.18.0-031800rc5-generic_3.18.0-031800rc5.201411162035_amd64.deb
as well ...?

I managed to change the brightness thanks to Xcaliber, but I'd like to fix
this problem anyway...

Thanks in advance,

Martin

[Bug 1395271] Re: USB 1 and USB 2 scanners fail when connected to USB 3 ports

2014-11-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1395271/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1395273] [NEW] Scottish Gaelic gone after update

2014-11-22 Thread GunChleoc
Public bug reported:

I run Firefox both on Windows and Ubuntu. On Windows, after every
update, the Scottish Gaelic language pack (gd) is at 100%, so the locale
translators are definitely keeping up.

On Ubuntu 14.04, Firefox is always littered with English language
strings. This week, after an update Firefox switched to 100% English.

I suspect that something's not working with your upstream coordination;
could you please look into this?

Thanks.

[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2014-11-22 Thread Arno
Hi, I'm here to report an issue I encounter with the custom 3.18 rc-2
kernel from this thread (Ubuntu 14.10) : when I boot up and log in, the
mouse cursor is invisible (but I can move it and click). I have to log
out in order to get it back.

I also have various issues with vanilla 3.18 on Ubuntu. Try 3.16 Ubuntu kernel
with same patch.
3.18 has no Ubuntu patches and is not tested well yet.

[Bug 1313754] Re: [HP Pavilion dv6-6c80el Entertainment Notebook PC] PrintScreen button does nothing.

2014-11-22 Thread Arthur Hrast Essenfelder
Dear Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch),

Sorry for not replying earlier.
I could check only now this bug.

I tested both Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10, and both worked the printscreen command
by using the printscreen button.
However, on the version 13.10, the key combination fn+del also calls the
printscreen command.
Using Ubuntu 14.04 only fn+del works.

Hope this can help somewhat.
Arthur.

[Bug 1395284] [NEW] Unstable wireless connections with 802.11n and kernel 3.16

2014-11-22 Thread Giovanni
Public bug reported:

Using kernel 3.16 the wireless connections on 802.11n networks are very
unstable and they fail after few minutes. Even if the NetworkManager
says that it is still connected, nothing works and I have to manually
disconnect and connect again. And so on.

The problem was not present in kernel 3.14 (i.e. in Ubuntu 14.04) and
seems to be resolved in 3.18-rc5, even if in this case the connections
seem to be slower (but stable).

The solution (or better, the workaround) that has been proposed in
askubuntu does not work for me ( http://askubuntu.com/questions/544074
/unstable-wireless-in-ubuntu-14-10 ).

I have no problem with older wifi standard: if I set my router to not
use the 11n standard, it works perfectly.

[Bug 1375995] Re: [HP Compaq dc7800 Small Form Factor PC] suspend/resume failure

2014-11-22 Thread Urs Fleisch
@Matt Taylor
I have not filed an upstream bug for this. Until now I was not sure if I am the
only one having this bug, so this information is helpful for me at least. As
you can see in the activity log, I followed the procedure suggested in the
Ubuntu Wiki, however, this did not result in more information. I also tried to
remove as many kernel modules as possible, but I was still not able to resume.
I even connected a serial console to my PC to see if some information is
printed while supending/resuming, but the console is switched off before the
freeze. Maybe there is more debug instrumentation in the kernel which could be
activated or we have to modify the kernel with printk statements or use kgdb to
find the place where it is freezing or the difference between the states after
hibernation and power-up.

[Bug 1368596] Re: video URL extraction fails

2014-11-22 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
Here is a debdiff for Trusty.

The changelog is:
  * Add patches to restore video playback and harden the plugin
- Fixes video URL extraction (LP: #1368596)
- Uses http streams by default (they are seekable and more reliable)
- Fix RTMP playback (needed for low quality and as fallback if something
  happens to http streams)
- Repair and use the RSS parser as the main video-listing fallback in case
the JSON parser break in the future

[Bug 495981] Re: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k

2014-11-22 Thread Ar
The networkmanager connects at my place to BSSID none. None does not
exists, so the connection is lost and restarted again, and again and
again.

The relevant log is:

info (wlan0): roamed from BSSID (none) ((none)) to 7C: (Zadel6)
wpa_supplicant[1076]: wlan0: WPA: Key negotiation completed with 7c: [PTK=CCMP
GTK=TKIP]
wlan0: deauthenticated from 7c:(Reason: 15=4WAY_HANDSHAKE_TIMEOUT)
wpa_supplicant[1076]: message repeated 6 times: [ wlan0: WPA: Key negotiation
completed with 7c:[PTK=CCMP GTK=TKIP]]
wpa_supplicant[1076]: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=7c: reason=15
warn Connection disconnected (reason 15)

By chance I found the cause. My Cisco router

Firmware Version: epc3928a-E10-5-v302r125572-131030c-ZIG
MAC Address:
Current Time: Sat. Nov 22 11:42:30 2014
Router Mode:IPv4

has two bands 2,4 Ghz and 5Ghz, both with the same BSSID Zadel6.

In this situation the networkmanager is switching from BSSID Zadel6 to none,
none to none and none to Zadel6.
If I disable one of the bands or give it a different BSSID, the switching
disappears and the connection is not lost anymore.

If it correct to conclude that the networkmanager is getting confused by
the two bands on the same BSSID?

[Bug 1394923] Re: ubuntu 14.04.1 missing language-pack-nl-base (= 1:14.04+20140707

2014-11-22 Thread ockels
Confirmed on Xubuntu 14.04.1 fresh install. Selecting systemwide
language gives depency errors.

Here's a quick fix:

#!/bin/bash
wget

wget
http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/language-pack-nl/language-pack-nl_14.04+20140410_all.deb
wget
http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/language-pack-nl-base/language-pack-nl-base_14.04+20140410_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i --ignore-depends=language-pack-gnome-nl --ignore-depends
=language-pack-gnome-nl-base language-pack-gnome-
nl_14.04+20140410_all.deb language-pack-gnome-nl-

language-pack-nl-base_14.04+20140410_all.deb

save as fix.sh and run sudo sh fix.sh in a terminal.

Afterwards you'll be able to apply systemwide language settings in the
control panel.

[Bug 1395301] [NEW] Inconsistent terminology for Bluetooth pairing

2014-11-22 Thread Ben Harris
Public bug reported:

The Personal File Sharing Preferences window has two sections relating
to Bluetooth, and those use different terminology (and user interface
features) to describe Bluetooth pairing, both from one another and from
the main Bluetooth settings.

Under Share Files over Bluetooth, the requirement for pairing is
controlled by a tickbox labelled Require remote devices to bond with
this computer, while under Receive Files over Bluetooth, it's
controlled by a pop-up menu labelled Accept files: with options
Always and Only for set up devices. As far as I can tell from the
docuementation (which disagrees slightly about how the user interface
should look), these controls have equivalent effects and control whether
files can be respectively browsed or sent by unpaired devices.
Meanwhile, the Bluetooth indicator menu uses the phrase Set-up [sic]
New Device, the Bluetooth pane of System Settings describes certain
devices as Paired, and the Ubuntu Desktop Guide explains how to
Connect your computer to a Bluetooth device but helpfully explains
that This is also called pairing the Bluetooth devices.

Personally, I think that both of these settings should be tickboxes, and
their labels should both be phrased in terms of paired deviced, since
that's standard Bluetooth terminology. For consistency with the Ubuntu
Desktop Guide, perhaps connected would be better (but I think it's
less obvious what it means).

PS: I've just found the Control sharing over Bluetooth page of the
Ubuntu Desktop Guide, which adds to the fun by introducing trusted
devices, which are apparently yet another way of talking about paired
devices.

[Bug 1054808] Re: Default filename for screenshots is problematic

2014-11-22 Thread Romano Giannetti
Ok, now that the upstream pushed it (and added another patch for gnome-
settings-daemon at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=740520 )
for 3.14, with a bit of luck it will percolate to Ubuntu Gnome in a
couple of years ;-).

My suggestion would be to simply ditch the thing and use shutter by
default.

[Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2014-11-22 Thread Stefan Stefanov
All due respect to the countless developers that took 14 months to fix
a critical bug affecting god knows how many Ubuntu releases but their
job doesn't end with writing a patch. The patch needs to be made
available to the majority of users which do not have the tech skills to
apply it - either by means of a temp PPA or by means of writing PROPER
instructions for compiling, upgrading and most importantly DOWNGRADING
if their patch goes ka-boom. I see this very rarely happening on
Launchpad so yes - people have the right to ask here what to do with
this piece of code.

My 2 cents

[Bug 1395308] Re: parcellite crashs on startup in ubuntu 14.10

2014-11-22 Thread higuita
workaround is to install clipit (a parcellite fork) or install the ppa
from rickyrockrat (https://launchpad.net/~rickyrockrat/+archive/ubuntu
/parcellite-appindicator) (haven't tried this one but is referred in
http://sourceforge.net/p/parcellite/bugs/140/?limit=25)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

** Description changed:

This a request to get a quirk added upstream for the Synaptics ClickPad
(buttonless trackpad) of the Lenovo Edge E440 to the synaptics kernel
driver so the right coordinates for the surface corners are reported and
  the pointer functionality is correct.

Yes, I'm using a newer version from ppa:aglasgall/synaptics

[Bug 1353526] Re: [Asus F552L] Touchpad not working in ubuntu 14.04

2014-11-22 Thread Gabriele Volpi
I install
linux-headers-3.18.0-031800rc5_3.18.0-031800rc5.201411162035_all.deb
linux-headers-3.18.0-031800rc5-generic_3.18.0-031800rc5.201411162035_amd64.deb
linux-image-3.18.0-031800rc5-generic_3.18.0-031800rc5.201411162035_amd64.deb
with
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Now touchpad works with one finger. That's fine!

[Bug 1395310] [NEW] UI quirk in other software tab

2014-11-22 Thread Guntbert Reiter
Public bug reported:

When (in the other software tab) the window is scrolled down all the
way (see attached screenshot) and I activate/deactivate a ppa the UI
suddenly jumps and the affected line is much further down in the window
(see next screenshot). Thus the mouse pointer is now above a different
entry.

Steps to reproduce:

in software-properties/other software
* scroll all the way down
* click on the checkbox of one entry approximately in the middle of the window
* all lines will suddenly jump down, leaving you with the mouse pointer on a
completely different entry
