[Bug 1400792] Re: Silent ext4 read error
I did some tests this weekend. I made a copy of the test directory into a second HD and I did write a small compare utility to check how many bytes are different for each file. The HDMI option is not presented. The workaround is to open the VLC app which lists the Built-in Stereo (HDMI) option under its Audio Audio Devices menu. When a video is started in VLC, having selected the HDMI option, the sound plays through the monitor speakers. The HDMI / Display Port , Built-in Audio item then appears in the Play sound through window, even though the selection highlight remains on Speakers. The sound output can be switched between either output by highlighting the chosen option. If VLC is closed and Videos is restarted, the sound now plays through the previously selected HDMI item and can be switched between the monitor and the laptop's speakers. What I regard as a bug is the failure of the HDMI option to appear in the Play sound through listing as soon as an HDMI monitor is plugged into the Display Port output. Obviously, VLC has the means to add this item but the Videos app does not seem to be able to do this by itself. In contrast, as soon as a previously paired set of Bluetooth headphone are turned on, the Headset does appear as a menu item in the listing. I would reasonably expect the plugging in of an HDMI monitor into the Display Port to automatically add this item as well as its affects on the Screen Display pane of Systems Settings. Note: the laptop is running Ubuntu 14.10 and the Linux kernel has recently been upgraded to v3.18 (Vivid). [Bug 1402666] Re: [XPS13 9333, Intel Haswell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem
Note: If, when playing a video through Videos, the monitor is unplugged, the HDMI option disappears from the Play sound through listing. When another HDMI device (such as a TV set with HDMI inputs) is plugged into the Display Port, the HDMI option reappears in the Play sound through listing. Sound output can be switched between the options by highlighting the chosen output. This happens without interrupting the video playback through the Videos app. However, the Screen Display might need reconfiguring but that is not the subject of this bug report, except to note that the Screen Display appears to behave as expected whilst the Sound does not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1402666 Title: [XPS13 9333, Intel Haswell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1402666/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1401434] Re: Desktop is distorted after update to 331.113
BIOS was upgraded: $ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 8BET62WW (1.42 ) 07/26/2013 However, that did not change anything. With 331.113 the same problem exists. I have also made tests with docking station and two external displays. The results: 1. LightDM login screen is OK 2. Dual monitors from docking station with laptop screen turned off: OK 3. Three monitors from docking station with laptop screen turned on: FAIL Laptop screen is turned on, but is black. Cursor can be seen on it, i.e. mouse can move to laptop screen, but windows cannot be dragged and icons (i.e. X desktop begins at) are on second display. Screenshot is also attached. 4. Reverted to 331.38: three monitor setup is OK. [Bug 1402676] [NEW] Installing Ubuntu 14.04.1 on a brand new self-built system installer crashes after failing to install GRUB to /target/
Public bug reported: I recently built a desktop from scratch for the first time. Part-list is available here: pcpartpicker.com/user/RPiAwesomeness/saved/q3Mypg I downloaded the Ubuntu 14.04.1 AMD64 ISO and put it on a 4GB USB stick using unetbootin on my current system, and Ubuntu 14.10 laptop. I then booted up the LiveUSB and selected Try Ubuntu before Installing. From there, I opened up the installer and proceeded through all of the steps, up until the point where it says that it is installing GRUB. After that, it gave me this error message: http://i.stack.imgur.com/Lahbp.png and then this one: http://i.stack.imgur.com/35x5a.png The installer and that second window both freeze and neither of the close buttons on the second window worked, I had to quit it via the Unity dash (right-click, Quit). This launched apport and brought me here. This has happened two times in a row now, so I'm not sure if it's the ISO or a server-side issue or something with my system. [Bug 1398595] Re: Working printer device communication error (5012)
Your problem can also be a hardware defect on the computer side. Did you test the printer(s) on other computers running Ubuntu? Do you also have problems with other USB devices? If your computer dual-boots to Windows, does the problem occur there, too? As a workaround, you can at least make the printing (not the scanning and/or fax) functionality working by using the printer as a network printer. If it does not have a network interface, connect it to the USB port of your router or NAS and then it should appear as a network printer with the IP/host name of your router or NAS (in some cases you need to activate print server functionality via the web interface of your router or NAS). [Bug 1380084] Re: SSH client requires SSH_AUTH_SOCK=0 will not work without it, can't use key auth without SSH_AUTH_SOCK=0
Although the fix above works for ssh I cannot connect with filezilla and get the following error: Pageant failed to answer challenge So I removed SSL_AUTH_SOCK from .bashrc and could then connect again with filezilla, but not ssh. After a look around I can connect with ssh using the following format : ssh -o PubkeyAuthentication=no user@host.domain This also works for scp. However, it is a pain in the butt. If you use keys it circumvents the issue. However, not every machine I connect to and from has keys. [Bug 1402350] Re: Powering on the printer does not activate the related usb port
@Till some more tests: - the pc was already running, but the printer's usb cord was unplugged. So i plug it again, then set the printer 'on' via its on/off switch button. When the output is directed to an external HDMI monitor and the lead into the Display Port is unplugged, the HDMI option disappears from the Sound Output menu leaving just the Speakers highlighted. [Bug 1402706] [NEW] More explicit wording needed for HWE updates
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: In Precise after new HWE kernel was released the following message was displayed to the user: New hardware support is available [Install]. This is perfectly correct, but I have received some complaints from sysadmins that this is a little bit misleading to end users. The current approach leaves users with false sense of support and security - since they will not receive any (includnig *security*) kernel patches despite the fact that they have installed a LTS release. In their opinion it should be emphasized that a new HWE kernel is required to prolong the LTS-nature of the installed system (since most of the HWE kernels will have up to a couple months of support). So, if the current kernel is close to EOL and new HWE kernel is available the message should clearly recommend upgrading the kernel to maintain full system support. ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: cts ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1402706 Title: More explicit wording needed for HWE updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1402706/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

After a reboot the camera is working. content of /Pictures -rw-rw-r-- 1 phablet phablet 1 Dec 14 12:04 image20141214_120448734.jpg -rw-rw-r-- 1 phablet phablet 1 Dec 14 12:04 image20141214_120437183.jpg -rw-rw-r-- 1 phablet phablet 1 Dec 14 10:15 image20141214_101555000.jpg -rw-rw-r-- 1 phablet phablet 1 Dec 14 10:15 image20141214_101551459.jpg -rw-rw-r-- 1 phablet phablet 835423 Dec 14 10:15 image20141214_101544251.jpg -rw-rw-r-- 1 phablet phablet 980890 Dec 14 10:11 image20141214_101124023.jpg -rw-rw-r-- 1 phablet phablet 905991 Dec 14 10:11 image20141214_101121089.jpg ** Affects: camera-app (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Attachment added: image20141214_101551459.jpg https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1402708/+attachment/4281504/+files/image20141214_101551459.jpg ** Description changed: + Mako build 140 + I took several photos in near succession, then the camera started saving empty (1 byte photos).
