I logged in to Unity, as admin, and tried tty, There is no response to the keyboard, thi=us I did not get c command line.
I did log in under Gnome, executed the command as suggested, I have a whole list of installation in Terminal , do you want to see that? I tend to agree that there is a problem with configuration, The disk activity at startup suggests that Unity is being loaded, it justdsoes not show on the monitor.
