[Bug 1405404] [NEW] ntp vulnerabilities

2014-12-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Network Time Protocol (NTP) Project NTP daemon (ntpd) contains multiple
vulnerabilities

The NTP Project ntpd version 4.2.7 and pervious versions allow attackers to
overflow several buffers in a way that may allow malicious code to be executed.
ntp-keygen prior to version 4.2.7p230 also uses a non-cryptographic random
number generator when generating symmetric keys. These vulnerabilities affect
ntpd acting as a server or client.
Description

The Network Time Protocol (NTP) provides networked systems with a way to
synchronize time for various services and applications. The reference
implementation produced by the NTP Project (ntp.org) contains several
vulnerabilities.

http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/852879
https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2014-9295

The backport for 4.0 is also needed.

[Bug 798414] [NEW] update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space

2014-12-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

When generating a new initramfs there is no check for available free
space, subsequently its possible for update-initramfs to fail due to a
lack of free space. This is resulting in package installation failures
for initramfs-tools. For example:

Setting up initramfs-tools (0.98.8ubuntu3) ...
update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)
Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-8-generic

gzip: stdout: No space left on device
E: mkinitramfs failure cpio 141 gzip 1
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-8-generic
dpkg: error processing initramfs-tools (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

WORKAROUND:

Remove unused kernels using computer janitor or manually free space on
your partition containing the /boot file system.

[Bug 1355588] Re: Failed to initialize command buffer

2014-12-24 Thread dino99
hi martinx,

i'm now mainly using Vivid i386 gnome-shell all the days long. So
chromium 39 is the vivid package, and it still has 'sometimes' that
irritating 'aie something happened' blue screen. As i can see, that
happen while some image's format(s) are loaded by a page, but i can't
tell which one(s). I might need to try viewing the 'crashed' page source
to find some idea about the format to be blamed. (but it also can be a
false positive investigation on my own)

ps: backporting from vivid might not help sadly.

2014-12-24 Thread GTriderXC
@Dylan I can only agree that it's all ridiculous!

What's more Bluetooth !!used to work in Ubuntu!! without problems!
IT IS NOT A BUG! It is negligence and ignorance! That's the real name of
a problem! It used to work but now Ubuntu became better!!! I wouldn't
complain so much if I didn't put so much work and precious time in
development. What I get now is a slow system without a bluetooth but
with an Amazon plugin and Unity that hides from me programs I have
installed in my system.

[Bug 1405298] Re: [Dell M4800]: iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260

2014-12-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
arty, happy holidays, and I'm glad a BIOS update worked out for you.
It's a common phenomenon here on Launchpad that many folks have all
sorts of wonky hardware problems (myself included), and could have saved
themselves going through the hassle of filing a bug report, or time
consuming testing, before checking to see if a simple BIOS update
addresses their issue.

However, as a BIOS update doesn't fit the criteria of the Fix Released
Status as outlined in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status (as a release
from Ubuntu didn't fix this issue) I'll go ahead and mark this Invalid.
However, if the problem returns, please file a new report (not reopen
this one).

Thank you for your understanding, and please feel free to report any
future bugs you may find.

[Bug 1300308] Re: select items matching (ctrl+s) only selects one file

2014-12-24 Thread Paweł Mański
What I can add with this strange behaviour, that if I use pattern that
should work for many files - it will always mark the same file.

I have such files:
01_Stary_niedzwiedz.mp3
02_Uki.mp3
03_Lokomotywa.mp3
04_Kaczuszki.mp3
05_Banke_lap.mp3
07_Gruszka.mp3
08_Ja jestem Gummi_Mis.mp3
09_Olimpiada_w_Jarzynowie.mp3
10_Cztery_slonie.mp3
11_Uwierz_w_siebie.mp3
12_Mucha_w_mucholocie.mp3
13_Niech_zuje_gol.mp3
14_Spacer_to_przygoda.mp3
15_Piosenka_Buni.mp3
16_Smoczek_smoczek.mp3

If I use pattern *.mp3 it will always point seccond file 02_Uki.mp3. If I
change extension of that file, and next try with the same pattern nautilus will
select file 11_Uwierz_w_siebie.mp3.
Whatever file I will select before using select items matching its always
chose the very same file matching the pattern.

[Bug 730984] Re: Kubuntu - Mount SAMBA shares when Dolphin access them via CIFS

2014-12-24 Thread Julian Kalinowski
I think this is one of the few show stoppers for using KDE as desktop for the
unexperienced user.
Gnome handles SMB / ssh / ftp / ... so nicely and transparent for applications,
while in KDE every single application has to support the protocol.

For experienced users, the cifs-mount-workaround is not a problem, but for the
avarage user, he just doesn't understand why it is such a problem to use VLC,
libreoffice and even KDE applications such as Dragon Player (doesn't handle
smb) with files on the network.
As NAS Storage is common, this should be fixed and I'm thankful for everyone
working on it.

[Bug 525161] Re: sometimes it's never print out any page and hangs on

2014-12-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Till Kamppeter, thanks for checking into this.

I just wanted to add a few data points to this issue.

In both Trusty and Vivid, printing to file (PS)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/525161/+attachment/4284552/+files/Grammar%204.djvu
took a few seconds.

However, in Vivid the conversion of this PS file to PDF via either
Evince or ps2pdf took ~2 hours.

In Vista, if one takes this resultant PDF from Vivid and prints to XPS
via Adobe Reader X, that takes ~10 minutes.

In Trusty, If one opens the resultant PDF in Evince and attempts to
print to file (PDF) the preparing to print message took minutes to make
1 page of progress. However, it ultimately finished within 10 minutes.

Overall, given the resultant PDF is so massive for a PDF (100MB+) it's
not a shocker it's taking so long to permute through all these different
printing methods.

Hence, it may be helpful to finely scope this issue to either physical
printer (and further to specific printer mfg.+model), or one
conversation hop printing to file, e.g. ps to PDF, or how djvu to ps
filesize goes from 6.5MB to ~62MB (if that's even a bug, as I'm not
aware of the spec details). Scoping this report to printing to file
allows a wider testing audience, saves on wasted printing paper, may
more finely focus the issue to something more manageable for a
developer, etc. However, I defer to your opinion on printing issues.

What do you think?

[Bug 1405424] [NEW] mod_xml2enc not available

2014-12-24 Thread Brian Candler
Public bug reported:

mod_xml2enc is not available in package repositories. apache2 now starts
without it (see #1376002) but you still get the following warning:

[Wed Dec 24 13:35:57.142324 2014] [proxy_html:notice] [pid 7028:tid
140101697644416] AH01425: I18n support in mod_proxy_html requires
mod_xml2enc. Without it, non-ASCII characters in proxied pages are
likely to display incorrectly.

Googling around, it seems people are still building this module from
source.

I will provide it off-band by e-mail (not through launchpad) to people

[Bug 1337800] Re: Footer text not persisted in odt file in Saucy amd64

2014-12-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Paul Manners, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Saucy reached EOL on
July 17, 2014.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Is this an issue on a supported release? If so, please execute in it the
following in a terminal as it will automatically gather debugging information,
in a terminal:
apport-collect 1337800

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

As well, could you please attach an example document, that when one
performs the steps, this is consistently reproducible in?

[Bug 1388169] Re: Keyboard Input Methods crashes on every startup

2014-12-24 Thread Terry Relph-Knight
This still isn't fixed nearly 2 months after launch and it's unassigned.
It must be affecting much more than six people. I have three machines
with very different hardware and it happens on all of them. It does seem
as though Canonical really doesn't care about the desktop any more. Yes
you can just relaunch and things sort of work but there does seem to be
a problem with the USB routines. I've noticed my mouse responding in
very erratic ways. I'm assuming that is realted to this bug although
perhaps it is yet another bug.

[Bug 1405437] [NEW] [Dell M4800, A11 BIOS]: iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260

2014-12-24 Thread arty
Public bug reported:

My problem seems to be different from #1315221 because it exists in
3.16.0-28-generic (Ubuntu 14.10). It is also different from #1405298
because it happens with the latest BIOS upgrade. dmidecode returns
version A11 and date 12/03/2014

About every 10 minutes my WiFi disconnects and a line like this appears in
syslog:
Dec 24 11:31:31 work kernel: [ 2721.017478] wlan0: deauthenticated from
10:c6:1f:2c:49:56 (Reason: 7=CLASS3_FRAME_FROM_NONASSOC_STA)

It is accompanied later by such line:
Dec 24 11:31:46 work NetworkManager[902]: info (wlan0): device state change:
activated - failed (reason 'SSID not found') [100 120 53]

The network disappears from the list and only becomes visible after I
disable and re-enable networking via the network applet.

I don't remember seeing this problem at work where they use Cisco
routers. I see the problem at home with my Speedport 723V Typ A router
(a+b+n mode, WPA2). This may be affected by number of other wifi
networks which are visible here: at least 17 at the moment.

[Bug 1405437] Re: [Dell M4800, A11 BIOS]: iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260

2014-12-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
arty, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could
you please advise if the firmware of your router is the latest Version
(1.01.009) as per
http://hilfe.telekom.de/hsp/cms/content/HSP/de/3388/FAQ/theme-293811306/Speedport-W
-723V-Typ-A ?

If not, could you please update it to it, and advise if this changes
anything?

** Description changed:

- My problem seems to be different from #1315221 because it exists in
- 3.16.0-28-generic (Ubuntu 14.10). It is also different from #1405298
- because it happens with the latest BIOS upgrade. dmidecode returns
- version A11 and date 12/03/2014
-
About every 10 minutes my WiFi disconnects and a line like this appears in
syslog:
  Dec 24 11:31:31 work kernel: [ 2721.017478] wlan0: deauthenticated from
10:c6:1f:2c:49:56 (Reason: 7=CLASS3_FRAME_FROM_NONASSOC_STA)

It is accompanied later by such line:
  Dec 24 11:31:46 work NetworkManager[902]: info (wlan0): device state
change: activated - failed (reason 'SSID not found') [100 120 53]

The network disappears from the list and only becomes visible after I
disable and re-enable networking via the network applet.

I don't remember seeing this problem at work where they use Cisco
routers. I see the problem at home with my Speedport 723V Typ A router
(a+b+n mode, WPA2). This may be affected by number of other wifi
networks which are visible here: at least 17 at the moment.

[Bug 1372143] Re: [Asus X551MA] Brightness+fn hotkeys have no effect

2014-12-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
danieru, as per
http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X551MA/HelpDesk_Download/ an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (513). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change
anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and
provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1392198] Re: unity-control center does not start after upgrade to unicorn

2014-12-24 Thread Swen Thümmler
/var/log/Xorg.0.log shows the following error when trying to start the
unity-control-center:

[ 70748.746] (EE) intel(0): intel_set_pixmap_bo: size of buffer object
does not match constraints: size=4096, must be greater than 8192, but
less than 67108864

My graphics controller is:

Perhaps this helps hunting down this error.

[Bug 1405100] Re: Unity icon rightclick → Quit doesn't work

2014-12-24 Thread Volodya
I see nothing with the words Exit BOINC manager anywhere in the
application. It's not in the menu, not in any of the tabs, and not in
the unity right click menu.

How can you say that it's a known bug and then the next day that it's
the intended behaviour?

[Bug 1405437] Re: [Dell Precision M4800] iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260

2014-12-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
arty, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly
shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.19-rc1

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

Re: [Bug 1405207] Re: [Inspiron N5110, IDT 92HD87B1/3, Black Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all

2014-12-24 Thread dennis
Thanks for your support. You will have to hold my hand a bit, I don't
know linux as a first or second language.

here's what I can add to the troubleshooting...
1) just to be clear, there is no sound from headphones when plugged into
the headphone jack. Sound continues to come out of built-in speakers.
2) I opened system Setting , then Sound. The only sound output
device listed is built-in speakers, this does not change when I plug
headphones in.
3) When I plug headphones into the MIC jack, it shows up as an output
device Headphones, but headphones do not work either. At the same
time, the headphones plugged into MIC show up as Microphone in the
Input tab.

So it looks like the sensing is screwed up, and I had trouble with this
even in Windows7 before installing Ubuntu 14

HI,
thanks yes the path is wrong heres in my laptop:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libwx_gtk2u_webview-3.0.so

my lib is libwx_gtk2u_webview-3.0.so.0.1.0 and not
libwx_gtk2u_webview-3.0.so.0.2.0 like Olly Betts (ojwb) wrote. Maybe
thats the problem?

[Bug 1405459] [NEW] XUbuntu installer crashed when trying to install to the separate encrypted partitions

2014-12-24 Thread Volodya
Public bug reported:

What i have done:

Started XUbuntu live USB (created with Startup Disk Creator on Ubuntu)
Chose to create my own disk layout.
I have setup unencrypted /boot partition
I have then created an encrypted area the size of the rest of the disk
At this time i was unable to create separate partitions within encrypted area
I pressed revert button
This has finally given me the ability to create the disk table within the
encrypted area
I have setup 3 disks within the encrypted area
I pressed continue

What happened:

There was an error in the installer, and it closed
I was given an option to report the error, and i've chosen to report it.
Information was collected, and then i was told that the error is with the
package that is not installed, so i can't report it.

What i expect to happen:

At the very least i should be able to report the problem. The message is
completely ridiculous, of course it's not a part of the installed
package, no packages were installed yet.

I also expect to be able to setup disk partitions without having to
press revert first.

[Bug 1388169] Re: Keyboard Input Methods crashes on every startup

2014-12-24 Thread paeschli
Yep, it doesn't seems like anyone is really interested in this bug,
although it has been given a 'High' importance. I wouldn't blame
Canonical though, most people fixing bugs are doing this in their free
time and aren't Canonical employees.

All we can do is hope someone will fix it, hopefully sooner than later.

As Jan Rathmann mentioned this issue went away for me when I removed a
video DVD (not mounted). Interestingly the issue popped up whether I had
a USB key in or not. Some drives were on my desktop, but not mounted. In
my case I have a blueray player (not DVD player).

[Bug 1405100] Re: Unity icon rightclick → Quit doesn't work

2014-12-24 Thread LocutusOfBorg
Sorry I'm the debian and ubuntu maintainer, I was experiencing this bug
something like one year ago, I reported it upstream, and they fixed it.

I tried again yesterday and it was reproducible.
I thought it was a regression,
Unfortunately I did test yesterday a bad version, and I can't reproduce again
(I'm test building some developer version and backports with the new wxwidgets,
bugs are normal there)

So in the advanced view (also in the simple one) you have in the File
menu something like close window that actually minimizes it, and an
Exit that actually asks you if it should only exit the manager or also
stop computing (the message goes away as soon as you click don't show
again).

Maybe unity is behaving differently, I use ubuntu with gnome.
If you still reproduce it please try to do a screenshot or a video, or try
gnome-shell, just to be sure it isn't a boinc bug (apt-get install gnome-shell
and you can choose at the next login your favourite DM).
