[Bug 1409434] Re: System Settings for mobile on PC

2015-01-12 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
** Description changed:

The other day I searched for the phrase System settings in my dash.
- And this is what came up:
-
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295710/+files/System_Settings_Gears.bmp
+ And this is what came up: System_Settings_Gears.bmp

I was rather confused by the second System Settings one with clock
like gears which appeared, so I right-clicked on it for more
- information:
-
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295711/+files/System_Settings_Gear_Details.bmp
+ information: System_Settings_Gear_Details.bmp

I then went and opened this seconds System Settings which said that it
is used for phones, tablets and convergent devices. And this is what I
- got:
-
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295712/+files/System_Settings_Phone.bmp
+ got: System_Settings_Phone.bmp

I also went into each section and it really looked like those were the
settings for a phone, it even had a vibration mode which was on, and
lots of settings to do with mobile networks.

Then I decided to search for it in the Ubuntu Software Centre, and I
found it and its page (as you can see the Remove button is greyed
- out):
-
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295713/+files/System_Settings_Gears_UbuntuSoftwareCentre.bmp
+ out): System_Settings_Gears_UbuntuSoftwareCentre.bmp

I installed Ubuntu on my machine a few weeks before it claims that the
second System Settings was installed. I also have a VM running the
same up-to-date version of Ubuntu that I have and that does not have
this second System Settings installed on it, so it is probably not
something that is meant to be installed there in some update or
  something.

Also when I was turning my computer off and I clicked the Shutdown
button on the dialog which asks you if you would like to Shutdown or
Restart, and my screen froze for about two seconds and then this image
with a dotted border around it flashed on my screen for a split second
(it was too quick to take a screenshot of so this is the best that I
- have got):
-
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295712/+files/System_Settings_Phone.bmp
+ have got): System_Settings_Phone.bmp

I asked a question about it here:
  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/260452 And was told that
I should report it as a bug. So that is what I am doing.

[Bug 1409027] Re: Timer in rewritten OrientationHelper breaks keyboard orientation

2015-01-12 Thread Daniel d'Andrada
** Description changed:

The rewritten OrientationHelper that was merged into trunk here:
  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-sdk-team/ubuntu-ui-
toolkit/trunk/revision/1147 introduces a new 250ms timer to prevent
incorrect rotations caused by Screen.primaryOrientation and
Screen.orientation being set one after another. However this prevents
applications from being able to rely on the changes to the angle having
been applied via the orientationAngleChanged signal (since they now only
get applied 250ms after the orientation change happens).

Because the keyboard changes its orientation based on the application
orientation this results in the keyboard rotating 250ms after the
application has rotated, and more problematically means that the input
area reported by the keyboard after the orientationAngleChanged signal
is incorrect (as the orientation change hasn't actually happened).

  Steps to reproduce

  1) Open the browser

- 2) Tab the address bar
+ 2) Tap the address bar

  3) Rotate the phone

  Expected outcome

All keys on the keyboard can be pressed

  Actual outcome

Only keys in the old input area can be pressed because the new input
  area hasn't been reported.

[Bug 1196584] Re: Please update package fonts-liberation to version 2.00.1

2015-01-12 Thread Beni Cherniavsky
Yes please! Liberation fonts 2.0 have considerably better unicode coverage.
Example why I care: currently the default Ubuntu install has precisely 1(!)
monospace font covering Hebrew (FreeMono) and 1 more comes if I install Hebrew
language support (Miriam Mono CLM). Ubuntu font family Hebrew is still far
from ready:
So Liberation Mono 2.0's added Hebrew coverage (which to my eyes is prettier
than FreeMono or Miriam) is a significant improvement.

If this bug can't move forward for some reason, consider instead including
fonts-croscore in default install — more or less the same fonts as Liberation
2.0, under different names (e.g. Cousine has monospace Hebrew coverage).

[Bug 1409745] [NEW] Upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 failed

2015-01-12 Thread Todd Chilson
Public bug reported:

I tried to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10, but the upgrade failed. I posted the
issue on:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/571892/troubleshooting-upgrade-to-14-10?noredirect=1#comment788618_571892.
They said to post it here as well.
I received the message below:

Calculating the changes
Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

I think it is because I tried to install MATE, but I did not like MATE.
I uninstalled MATE and after uninstalling MATE, I have had a lot of
issues. I am not sure about this, it is just a hunch.

I've been trying to make it work a keyboard shortcut for a custom action

click anything inside the desktop the custom action is there and i can
use it, however, the keyboard shortcut doesn't work.

Also, when I go into the dash and search for System Settings and then
I right-click on the one that is not meant to be there, I get a

But when I recently tried the scanner out both worked - USB 2 + USB 3 (Using an
ASRock J1900 Mainboard with Netrunner Frontier (Kubuntu 14.04 based)).

[Bug 1409737] [NEW] GRUB is installed to a device other than what Ubuntu itself was installed to

2015-01-12 Thread Jess McGraw
Public bug reported:

Summary:
GRUB was insalled to a device other than the requested Ubuntu installation
target and the system would not boot. Suggest verifying the target of GRUB
install matches user expectation

Detail:
During a fresh installation of Ubuntu 14.10 to an SSD I could not get the
system to boot even though the installation itself had detected the SSD and
proceeded without any issues. There were no errors or text on boot, just a
flashing cursor.

I reinstalled several times and kept having the same issue, trying
various iterations of BIOS settings thinking that the problem must be
an interaction between BIOS and the new SSD (eg AHCI vs. ATA support
enabled etc etc).

On the last install I happened to notice that GRUB was being installed
to an internal SD card (an overlooked relic from when this machine was
used for Windows and the card was a ReadyBoost cache) even though Ubuntu
itself had been directed to install to the new SSD. The system cannot
boot from this MMC device,

I removed the SD card and re-installed Ubuntu. This time GRUB was
properly installed on the SSD and the system booted correctly.

from an update. There is a .dvi file in my Desktop folder, so it get
thumbnailed automatically. During these past days this thumbnailing

After I moved this .dvi file to another folder the system returned to

[Bug 1409683] [NEW] Neutron does not refresh mysql connection when HA failover happens

2015-01-12 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Config:

Three MySQL nodes using percona (percona-cluster charm vai juju)
Two Neutron nodes providing network services to an openstack HA deployment (all
done via juju).

Issue:

While testing failover of MySQL, we noticed that we could no longer
create instances of any sort. Looking further it looks like neutron-
server can not talk to the mysql server that is currently active (using
the assigned VIP).

Attached is the server log from neutron-server.

Restarting neutron-server resolved the issue for us.

Re: [Bug 1405256] Re: Package does not contain service file

2015-01-12 Thread Ivan
From what I understand (which is not much) from the link I originally
posted, it seems to me that an older version of the package worked and
contains the necessary files. Isn't it possible to just add these missing
files to the current version of the package?

IMO even if in the next version of Ubuntu this will be replaced, this is
still an LTS version (14.04), so I think it should be fixed.

Thanks!

[Bug 1406867] Re: Hyper-V TRIM Feature Broken in current LTS trusty kernel

2015-01-12 Thread Andy Whitcroft
We are in a bit of a mess here. To clean this up and end up with a
consistant fix applied to all the prime releases I am submitting patch
kits to apply this fix for Trusty, and revert the current fix and apply
this to Utopic. I have also applied this fix to both Vivid v3.18 and
v3.19 based kernels going forward. Once this has all made it through
process we should have a single common fix on all releases Trusty and
later.

[Bug 1409677] Re: cryptdisks hangs on message stop/waiting

2015-01-12 Thread Helder
So, I tried to execute
$ sudo /etc/init.d/cryptdisks stop
and got
cryptdisks stop/waiting
instantaneously. So stopping works fine. In fact, when I tried it for a second
time, I got
$ sudo /etc/init.d/cryptdisks stop
stop: Unknown instance:

On the other hand, starting freezes:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/cryptdisks start
(nothing is shown after that is executed)

FYI: this is on Ubuntu Studio 14.10.

[Bug 1313539] Re: monitor shows black screen and no input signal after turning the monitor off and on manually

2015-01-12 Thread david6
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1308105 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105

This issue is possibly specific to DisplayPort, and not just a duplicate
of bug #1308105.

I have just upgraded my monitor, and due to higher screen resolution,
was forced to change from DVI (and a KVM) to DisplayPort.

The monitor will NOT sleep, and attempting to workaround by power-off/on
(when unneeded) hits THIS bug. Setting the monitor to sleep (eg.
powersave timer) also triggers THIS bug. The ONLY fix being to power
cycle the PC.

However, the most common workaround I have found generally says: Don't
use DisplayPort, use DVI Dual-Link.

ALSO, if bug 1308105 is the cause, where is the fix? When will it
arrive?

This appears to be a xfce4 regression bug, and specific to DisplayPort
..

[Bug 1409542] Re: PPAs not visible in the Software Center

2015-01-12 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
PPAs, like any apt software archive, can replace any package on your
system. For example, a PPA maintainer could replace your kernel with one
that doesn't boot, or replace Xorg with a version that includes a
keylogger and sends your credit card details to Eastern Gabistan. That's
why we don't provide PPA discovery in USC, or promote PPAs as a method
of publishing software for end users. If you do add a PPA, its packages
become visible in USC, and it's added as an item in the All Software
menu, but that's as far as we go.

Fortunately, it is not correct that PPAs are the only way to publish
free open-source apps. Since 2011 you have been able to use the MyApps
system for that. https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com/dev/apps/

[Bug 1405100] Re: Unity icon rightclick → Quit doesn't work

2015-01-12 Thread LocutusOfBorg
The problem there is that clicking on the x should actually exit it
and not closing it.

Currently the only way to exit boinc manager is to click on the file
menu.
