Rebooting now takes me to a CLI login prompt. But when I try to give it my login credentials, the screen flickers and then it takes me to the GUI login prompt. After logging in, everything seems to function as it has been since installing last month, only it pops up a system error box, asks to load a blue million files to file a bug report with, but after an hour it has not done anything at all. (Literally an hour, I decided to wait since most of the bug reports it has been filing usually take 3-5 minutes.) Rebooting brings it back to the normal startup - that is, no login at all, but straight to the desktop, like I had initially set it to do. Rebooting again goes back through the login prompts. When it goes through the login screen reboot (as opposed to going straight to the desktop like it also does sometimes,) it is also completely ignoring the 'viewportout' settings in xorg.conf. The Xorg log shows a lot of nvidia and nouveau entries; but does not show why that would randomly switch how it decides how to let me login. udev log is ~14000 lines long, mostly relating to the sound. This makes sense given the sound issues. but again - nothing pointing to login or viewportout. kern.log is also huge (~1 lines), but the most recent entries are primarily hda-codec related. dpkg log is ~225000 lines long, and I honestly don't feel like spending my day reading through that much stuff - I'm really not even sure what to look for to find something relating to when it decides to take me to a cli login, and gui login, or just go straight to the desktop - this was always done as a 'set it and forget it' switch in previous versions of Ubuntu. why they had to change it is beyond me. gpu-manager.log, interestingly, ends with: System configuration has changed Removing xorg.conf. Path: /etc/X11/xorg.conf Which is interesting since my system has *not* changed; all I did is reboot. And curiously, there IS an xorg.conf. This latest solution does not seem like it is working very well at all. On Wed, Jan 21, 2015 at 1:56 PM, Csaba Patyi patyi.cs...@gmail.com wrote: Hi All! Thanks for the solution. B.r. I would like this bug to be considered for a Stable Release Update to 14.04 (and 14.10 if applicable) [Impact] * Many PDFs do not display correctly, including the boarding passes from a major European airline * Printing a boarding pass is a common simple task which users expect to work, and therefore should be fixed in the stable release. * see upstream bug report for discussion about the mechanism of the fix. [Test Case] * attempt to view the test case in the linked upstream bug using 'evince attachment.pdf' * observe corrupted text displayed [Regression Potential] * theoretically, other PDFs which currently display correctly could be displayed incorrectly after this change, but is intended to emulate acroread, so this is unlikely. * patch has been reviewed and committed upstream, so should be safe [Other Info] * none -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412916 Title: evince: Bad PDF rendering: invalid font scale To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/poppler/+bug/1412916/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1407714] Re: Ubuntu 15.04: netinstall/boot installation files not found for Ubuntu 15.04
--- Comment From helle...@us.ibm.com 2015-01-21 18:25 EDT--- (In reply to comment #9) (In reply to comment #8) I think Dave may not have been clear enough. The issue isn't trying to find the netboot ISOs. We get those just fine by following the normal links at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/netboot/vivid/: e.g., to http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/vivid/main/installer-ppc64el/ current/images/netboot/ The issue is that, the DVD iso: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily/current/ on ppc64el does not allow for netbooting. It is missing some drivers in the initrd, but also even when said kernel/initrd is netboot'd, it attempts to install off the DVD. I have seen this for all ppc64el releases of Ubuntu when installed via Cobbler. A workaround (which I've been using for some time) is to use the vmlinux/initrd.gz from http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/vivid/main/installer-ppc64el/ current/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/ppc64el/ to override Cobbler's notion of Ubuntu's kernel/initrd pair. From what Dave has told me offline, though, x86 doesn't suffer from this particular issue. The same ISO can be used to install from the disk tray or over the network. Thanks, Nish Exactly. Here is a list of initrd files on amd64, powerpc and ppc64el ISOs, respectively. We notice the amd64 disc has an additional initrd specifically for netbooting, not present on the powerpc and ppc64el discs. The initrd on the powerpc and ppc64el discs are missing some or all of the required network drivers. On the ppc64el, I notice some of the drivers (e.g. ibmveth, tigon3) are built into the kernel and so do not need to be on the initrd. Even so, it's missing quite a lot. Like the powerpc64 case, there are a boatload of drivers in the netboot initrd that are not in these initrd. $ find ./ubuntu15.04/ -name initrd.gz -exec ls -lh {} \; -r--r--r-- 1 root root 9.9M Jan 13 01:46 ./ubuntu15.04/amd64/install/initrd.gz -r--r--r-- 1 root root 22M Jan 6 20:10 ./ubuntu15.04/amd64/install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz -r--r--r-- 1 root root 8.1M Jan 13 17:49 ./ubuntu15.04/ppc64/install/e500mc/initrd.gz -r--r--r-- 1 root root 8.0M Jan 13 17:49 ./ubuntu15.04/ppc64/install/powerpc/initrd.gz -r--r--r-- 1 root root 8.5M Jan 13 17:49 ./ubuntu15.04/ppc64/install/powerpc64/initrd.gz -r--r--r-- 2 root root 9.3M Jan 13 17:49 ./ubuntu15.04/ppc64el/install/initrd.gz (It's easy to see that the netboot initrd for PPC, not shown here, are about twice the size of the ones on the ISO). So the question is, why not put the netboot initrd on the powerpc and ppc64el ISO as they are for amd64? If no good reason, can we get them added? [Bug 1320788] Re: USSD code result shows useless Cancel button
When we first implemented this feature we tried to use only one button, but the snap decision wouldn't allow us to place only one button in the bubble. Not sure if that is currently possible. USSD must be a modal notification as per GSM spec and should not timeout. It requires an interaction from users in order to go away. And IIRC, regular on screen notification also do not support that. We ended up adding the cancel button as a workaround. [Bug 1236749] Re: Gnome shell extensions disabled at every startup
The problem with this bug is that it doesn't exhibit itself consistently or predictably. On my previous laptop's Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 setup, reboots worked fine until some point (a month after installing?), at which point this behavior started happening... but only on a clean reboot. If I killed power to my laptop by force instead, extensions would stay. (This probably further confirms the hypothesis in bug 1385572.) The previous laptop was a Dell Precision M6400 with a Core 2 Duo CPU and Quadro FX 2700M graphics. I forget if I tried nVidia drivers or not. So far, I have not seen this happen with clean reboots on my current laptop. It is a Lenovo G60-45 with the following combined CPU/GPU: AMD A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics. I mainly use the AMD drivers due to freezing issues with mesa; I forget if this happened with mesa as well or not. This is still with Ubuntu GNOME 14.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236749 Title: Gnome shell extensions disabled at every startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1236749/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1371655] Re: [system settings] allows to change lock security without asking for passcode
So here are the options I can imagine off the top of my head (spoiler alert, #4 is my vote): 1) Always ask for a code, if AccountsService doesn't ask us to authenticate, just don't use the given code. This is bad because if the user entered the wrong code, things will still work. And the user will be left wondering if we do any security at all. 2) We could always authenticate directly via policykit on our side before asking AccountsService to change the password type. This would be a duplication of authentication effort and code on our end. So not ideal. 3) We could ship an override for AccountsService/policykit so that it won't keep authentication tokens around for these actions. That's a big system-wide hammer for this local problem, so I'd prefer not to muck with such configuration. 4) We could ask policykit to revoke our authentication after completing any interaction with AccountsService. I've never used that API before, but I *think* that would be the same thing as #3 but just for us. This is my vote, assuming it works like I think it does. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1371655 Title: [system settings] allows to change lock security without asking for passcode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1371655/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1413306] Re: Track Pad is not detected by Linux
No, the issue started after a clean install from scratch. I have updated the Tag kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Thanks for your help!!! [Bug 1413302] Re: GSM connected, but no data plan - should report disconnected
AFAIK, there's no way for ofono to know that credit has run out. ofono is responsible for attaching to the GPRS network and ensuring that the correct ConnectionManager DBus properties are exposed ( 'Powered' and 'Attached' ). Likewise ofono exposes one or more GPRS contexts which NM may choose to activate. If the operator responds to an context activation request with valid IP settings, then NM will use them to configure the data connection. If packets on this new interface are dropped, we currently lack any kind of network heartbeat mechanism to detect this situation. This is no different than being in an area that has borderline signal quality. This is quite similar to the case where an Ubuntu desktop is connected to a WiFi AP, but the the ISP that the AP is connected to is having issues. @Michael - in order to confirm the ofono state, could you please include the output of ofono's 'list-modems' and 'list-contexts' scripts ( which can be found in /usr/share/ofono/scripts on the phone )? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1413302 Title: GSM connected, but no data plan - should report disconnected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1413302/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1075717] Re: mounted-dev must not re-create consoles in a container
This needs fixing in precise too. I just ran into that very problem with current upstream LXC and a precise privileged container. I'll upload a straight cherry-pick of the mounted-dev.conf job as we have it nowadays (I confirmed that fixes it here). ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: mountall (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) = Stéphane Graber (stgraber) ** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided = High ** Description changed: mounted-dev.conf always does MAKEDEV console. MAKEDEV doesn't just make the devices, it first removes them. When a container starts, it sets up /dev/console and /dev/lxc[1-4] as bind mounts of ptys on the host, for use as lxc consoles. If mounted- dev deletes and recreates those, then none of the lxc consoles work. A simple patch which stops it from breaking lxc consoles is at lp :~serge-hallyn/ubuntu/quantal/mountall/mountall-lxc . However looking back at it, I think it would be ok to do a further check for whether /dev/console exists. If it does not exist, then MAKEDEV console anyway.
