[Bug 1400626] Re: Please backport xtrans, libdrm, x11proto-{fonts, core} packages for 14.04.2
I upgraded my system to the utopic stack. Unfortunately, after cleaning old config files I rebooted to find that X couldn't be started. Essentially the symlink /etc/X11/X got deleted. I recreated it manually (reconfiguring xserver-xorg-lts-utopic also works). I guess this is a known issue (bug #1132736). Any way to avoid this when upgrading HWE? [Bug 1419231] Re: bug against the 'update-manager' package .
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1419231/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. In localhost.pl you should have: $Conf{TarClientCmd} = '/usr/bin/env LC_ALL=C /usr/bin/sudo $tarPath -c -v -f - -C $shareName' . ' --totals'; Otherwise, if your systems default language is not English, backuppc will not understand what tar is saying in your language and you will see an error like: Running: /usr/bin/sudo /bin/tar -c -v -f - -C /etc --totals . full backup started for directory /etc Xfer PIDs are now 11679,11678 [ skipped 2977 lines ] Gesamtzahl geschriebener Bytes: 10465280 (10MiB, 2,7MiB/s) [ skipped 240 lines ] tarExtract: Done: 0 errors, 2828 filesExist, 7357656 sizeExist, 2282752 sizeExistComp, 2877 filesTotal, 8329812 sizeTotal Got fatal error during xfer (Gesamtzahl geschriebener Bytes: 10465280 (10MiB, 2,7MiB/s)) Backup aborted (Gesamtzahl geschriebener Bytes: 10465280 (10MiB, 2,7MiB/s)) Saving this as a partial backup -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/497732 Title: backuppc errors: Tar exited with error 512 () due to read permission failures To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/backuppc/+bug/497732/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1419252] [NEW] The GUI of Apport quits with an error message needs PID
Public bug reported: When I start Apport to report a bug, I have two choices: 1. Run ubuntu-bug packagename 2. Run ubuntu-bug I chose the latter case. I was then asked whether my bug falls into one of a few obscure categories. None of them sounded likely, so I chose other. Then, Apport just displayed an error message, saying it needs a PID or something. I have no idea what a PID is, so how am I supposed to continue filing a bug report? Instead, Apport should have offered me to pick an application from the list of currently running applications. Or, to enter a package name. Or, to enter the name of an executable. (In the case of Apport, ubuntu-bug ubuntu-bug doesn't work, which surprised me a lot.) Or, to enter just a search term, and then choose from a list of packages or executables. [Bug 1409798] Re: enable hmac-sha2-256, hmac-sha2-512 MAC algorithms
** Description changed: + [Impact] + Since version 2013.56, dropbear has supported the hmac-sha2-256 and hmac-sha2-512 MAC algorithms, but they are disabled by default. According to the dropbear changelog, enabling them is a matter of uncommenting the following two lines in options.h: - /*#define DROPBEAR_SHA2_256_HMAC*/ - /*#define DROPBEAR_SHA2_512_HMAC*/ + /*#define DROPBEAR_SHA2_256_HMAC*/ + /*#define DROPBEAR_SHA2_512_HMAC*/ Due to recent NSA revelations, some people are recommending users disable certain algorithms. If the recommendations at https://stribika.github.io/2015/01/04/secure-secure-shell.html are followed, there are no MAC algorithms left that dropbear supports unless hmac-sha2-256 and hmac-sha2-512 are enabled. + + [Test Case] + + Setup steps: + 1. install dropbear and openssh-client: +sudo apt-get install dropbear openssh-client + 2. if you have openssh-server installed, stop it: +sudo service ssh stop + 3. make sure that the dropbear service is enabled by editing + /etc/default/dropbear and setting the NO_START variable to 0 like + this: +NO_START=0 + 4. start the dropbear service: +sudo service dropbear start + + Test steps: + 5. try the hmac-sha2-256 MAC: +ssh -o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null \ +-o MACs=hmac-sha2-256 localhost + 6. try the hmac-sha2-512 MAC: +ssh -o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null \ +-o MACs=hmac-sha2-512 localhost + + Cleanup steps: + 7. stop the dropbear service: +sudo service dropbear stop + 8. if you edited /etc/default/dropbear to enable the dropbear + service, disable it again by editing /etc/default/dropbear and + setting the NO_START variable to 1 like this: +NO_START=1 + 9. if you stopped the OpenSSH server, restart it: +sudo service ssh start + + [Regression Potential] + + * Due to being disabled by default upstream, the implementations of + the new MAC algorithms are probably not as well tested as the old + MAC algorithms. This may increase the likelihood of compatibility + or security bugs. + * SSH clients are likely to prefer the new MAC algorithms over the + old MAC algorithms. If either the client or server has an + implementation bug, the ability to connect may be impaired unless + the user configures the client to disallow the new algorithms or + prefer the old algorithms (e.g., via the ssh_config MACs + directive in OpenSSH). + * The new MAC algorithms may negatively impact performance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409798 Title: enable hmac-sha2-256, hmac-sha2-512 MAC algorithms To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dropbear/+bug/1409798/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1024767] Re: External monitor is found on Super + P, however, not a projector
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. ** Changed in: xfce4-settings (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1024767 Title: External monitor is found on Super + P, however, not a projector To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1024767/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1419262] [NEW] mysql-5.5 test suite no longer works because of timestamps in the past
Public bug reported: Since February 2, the mysql-5.5 testsuite has been failing consistently under autopkgtest. This appears to be caused by a bug in the test suite that uses keys with fixed time stamps, causing problems when those keys' expiration date is in the past. The output in the adt log is: CURRENT_TEST: main.ssl_8k_key mysqltest: At line 5: command $MYSQL --ssl --ssl-key=$MYSQL_TEST_DIR/std_data/client-key.pem --ssl-cert=$MYSQL_TEST_DIR/std_data/client-cert.pem -e SHOW STATUS LIKE 'ssl_Cipher' 21 failed Output from before failure: ERROR 2026 (HY000): SSL connection error: ASN: after date in the past exec of '/usr/bin/mysql --defaults-file=/tmp/tmp.wCAnQbZaNW/var/my.cnf --ssl --ssl-key=/usr/lib/mysql-testsuite/std_data/client-key.pem --ssl-cert=/usr/lib/mysql-testsuite/std_data/client-cert.pem -e SHOW STATUS LIKE 'ssl_Cipher' 21' failed, error: 256, status: 1, errno: 0 - saving '/tmp/tmp.wCAnQbZaNW/var/log/main.ssl_8k_key/' to '/tmp/tmp.wCAnQbZaNW/var/log/main.ssl_8k_key/' [...] Failing test(s): rpl.rpl_heartbeat_ssl rpl.rpl_ssl rpl.rpl_ssl1 main.ssl_8k_key The full output of the failing test run can be found at https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/vivid-adt- mysql-5.5/31/ARCH=amd64,label=adt/. If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1410193 Title: Touchpad undetected in Gigabyte P35W laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1410193/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1416061] Re: redis version installed is 2.6.9 albeit it is mention in the package to be 2.8.13

[Bug 1414320] Re: Unity(7) freezes completely after Kernel update (3.18.0.9.9) on intel GMA-965 (Vivid)
Khurshid Alam, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel 3.18 to 3.18.5 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your release. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F ? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting. Thank you for your understanding. Re: [Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]
Ok, I'm giving the kernel 3.19 a try. Here is a list of the steps I'm following according to the information gathered in this thread. Please tell me if I'm missing something: - Install the kernel 3.19 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-rc7-vivid/ - Clone the GIT repository: git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git - Compile and install the drivers: make sudo make install - Blacklist the r8192ee module Any remarks?
