[Bug 1451125] Re: ReText preview doesn't work: no markups are available

2015-05-03 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
ReText recommends python3-markdown, so it is installed by default when
one installs ReText. I can't move it to Depends because ReText can work
without Markdown support (i.e. reST only).

[Bug 1451146] [NEW] fglrx 2:8.970-0ubuntu1: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2015-05-03 Thread Clay Allen Figley
Public bug reported:

I was following instructions here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/AMD#Manually_installing_Catalyst_13.4
When I ran sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb some dependencies weren't met, so I
proceeded to Ubuntu Software Center, which automatically recognized the unmet
dependencies and began downloading and installing them. Before the changes
were complete in the USC progress tab, this error popped up, and here's the bug
report.

I'll try a couple of things and update with progress.

[Bug 1449138] Re: Installing of a new language causes that other locales are registered as outdated

2015-05-03 Thread Sworddragon
According to man locale-gen it generates all supported locales if no
locale/language arguments are specified. That's the
documented behavior. Please consider the fact that it sometimes does not
 unnecessarily regenerate newly generated locales
 as a bonus. ;)

The manpage does also say that it compiles only locales if the source
files have changed. Based on this recompiling already up-to-date locales
after another locale has been installed seems to be a bug.

[Bug 1451156] [NEW] usage examples in man bonnie++ don't work

2015-05-03 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
Public bug reported:

The example for multiple processes should read

bonnie++ -p3
bonnie++ -y s  out1  # requires bonnie++ -pN to be run
bonnie++ -y s  out2
bonnie++ -y s  out3

because `bonnie++ -y` doesn't work alone and it's not clear from the
example that the commands need to be run in order (although it's clear
from the manpage).

[Bug 1417826] Re: display acting up. overlay .. ?

2015-05-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

- display acting up.
+ With nvidia 331.113 I have to manually configure dual screen layout (by
+ doing what precisely?). However, if I remove this manually configured
+ layout it fails.
+
+ With this WORKAROUND in place, sometimes both screens are on the same
+ monitor and it scrolls sideways (may be due to manual configuration
+ error).
+
+ tested nvidia 346 same thing.
+
+ With nvidia 304 my second monitor stopped working.
+
+ With nouveau the mouse cursor is streaking, and the performance isn't as
+ good as nvidia.

2015-05-03 Thread gbachot
Same here, unable to change the keyboard layout.
Ubuntu 14.04.2, Unity, 64 bit.

The indicator shows Be, which is correct, but the actual layout is
wrong. Checked / changed system settings several times, un/installed
languages, disabled and re-enabled ibus, did a systemupdate, logged out
and restarted several times. Nothing helps.

@Adolfo

please read #4 above to understand that the package name does not matter here;
and dpkg is not to blame as explained by Debian dev. Its a pure Ubuntu problem
when Software-center is used as its so badly designed, buggy and quite not

[Bug 1432492] Re: Firefox and Thunderbird freezes entire system after a few seconds of use

2015-05-03 Thread Gizmo Chicken
I'm currently having a similar problem (system freeze) when running
Firefox in an Ubuntu 15.04 virtual machine (VM) under KVM/Qemu. That
is, the VM (but not the host) freezes within a few seconds after
visiting certain sites (including Ubuntu.com) using Firefox in the VM.

I'll just add that: (1) I haven't run into this problem with Ubuntu
15.04 when running bare-metal on my Intel-based laptop or when running
bare-metal on my AMD-based desktop; (2) however, the above is highly
reproducible (almost ALWAYS happens) in VMs run on my Intel-based
laptop. (I haven't yet tested any Ubuntu 15.04 VMs on my AMD-based
desktop.)

[Bug 910736] Re: Add ignore rule for Arduino to udev blacklist

An ignore should probably be added for Arduino.org devices too (there's
two competing Arduino companies now, don't ask):

And, while we are here, perhaps also ignore the Pinoccio Scout (arduino-

[Bug 1450950] Re: Package dependency on Java

2015-05-03 Thread Thangalin
Since you have installed java manually, without the package manager,
it has no way of knowing it shouldn't install java from the archive.

When Java is installed, the following returns a 0 value:

java -version /dev/null 21 echo $?

From a script, detecting Java is simple:

--
#!/bin/bash

echo -n Java is ;
java -version /dev/null 21

if [ $? != 0 ]; then
  echo -n not ;
fi

echo installed.
--

The package manager technically *can* detect whether Java is installed
(either as a package or manually), but it might not be worthwhile.

[Bug 1446247] Re: Lubuntu 15.04 - No power indicator in applet indicator

2015-05-03 Thread Menachem Shapiro
I have the same exact issue. I recently upgraded to 15.04. I had the
power indicator icon in 14.10, but it disappeared when I upgraded.

I was doing some searching online, and found a lot of people suggesting
to going into the xfce4-power-manager-settings and setting Show tray
icon: to Always show icon. Some of this information is a couple years
old, so it is possible that the answer no longer applies.

When I open xfce4-power-manager-settings, the Show tray icon option
does not appear.

More online research led me to the following configuration file:
~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml

It looks like older versions of this file had a Show tray icon option
[see https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=8786], but the one
installed in 15.04 does not.

Either this option is no longer supported, or someone left it out
accidentally.

Maybe this can lead someone towards a solution for this problem.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with the disk to which you are trying to
install Ubuntu. I'd recommend performing a back up of your existing
operating system and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections for your disks and using
software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event
that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's
status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

Mostly just lack of time/engineers, and not changing too many

Re: [Bug 1427654] Re: FFE: switch system init to systemd [not touch] in 15.04

2015-05-03 Thread Martin Pitt
god [2015-05-02 23:19 -]:
Is there some detailed notes on why upstart is still used for user
sessions instead of systemd? Is it just lack of time or there are some
technical reasons not to switch to systemd here as well?

Mostly just lack of time/engineers, and not changing too many
intrusive things at once.

[Bug 971051] Re: No Alt+Tab in gnome classic session (switcher plugin not loaded)

2015-05-03 Thread Paolo Montrasio
In my case it was a fresh install. I eventually managed to workaround it
and make it work but I don't remember how. This is what I have installed
now:

$ dpkg -l *compiz* |grep ii
ii compiz 1:0.9.7.12-0ubuntu4
   OpenGL window and compositing manager
ii compiz-core1:0.9.7.12-0ubuntu4
   OpenGL window and compositing manager

ii compiz-plugins-main-default1:0.9.7.0~bzr19-0ubuntu10.1
Compiz plugins - main default collection
ii compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.9.5.92-0ubuntu5
Compiz Fusion configuration system - gconf backend
ii compizconfig-settings-manager 0.9.5.92-0ubuntu3
   Compiz configuration settings manager
ii libcompizconfig0 0.9.7.0~bzr428-0ubuntu6
Settings library for plugins - OpenCompositing Project
ii python-compizconfig0.9.5.94-0ubuntu4
   Compizconfig bindings for python

(it's a little different from the list I gave in #41)

So it seems that I installed packages from

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/amd64/compiz-plugins-main-dev
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/amd64/libcompizconfig0-dev
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/amd64/compizconfig-settings-manager

Furthermore I have this plugin ~/.compiz-1/plugins/libcube.so of 163080
bytes probably because of this
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:qA_apIZ2-iAJ:ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1938942.html+cd=1hl=enct=clnk
(I give the google cache because the direct link doesn't work anymore
for me)

It's a strange mix but it kind of works. Known problems: sometimes
resizing a window stops with some extra space around it and rotating the
cube with a window doesn't work. The window goes back to the original
face as soon as I stop rotating it. Anyway all the alternatives are
worse for me. This UI is still the one that better suits my way of
working.

[Bug 1432492] Re: Firefox and Thunderbird freezes entire system after a few seconds of use

2015-05-03 Thread Gizmo Chicken
Just to expand on (and repeat some of) the above:

(1) I haven't run into this problem (system freeze when running visiting
certain sites, including Ubuntu.com, using Firefox) when running bare-metal on
my Intel-based laptop or when running bare-metal on my AMD-based desktop;
(2) The above is highly reproducible (almost ALWAYS happens) in Ubuntu 15.04
VMs run on my Intel-based laptop. (I haven't yet tested any Ubuntu 15.04 VMs on
my AMD-based desktop.);
(3) The above is highly reproducible (almost ALWAYS happens) in Ubuntu 15.04
VMs run on my Intel-based laptop, regardless of whether I boot the VM using
systemd or upstart ; and
(4) The above does NOT seem to occur in Ubuntu 14.04.2 VMs run on my
Intel-based laptop.

2015-05-03 Thread Philipp
Okay, I prepared another USB with an ISO of the Kubuntu CI project
(https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ci). It's working fine on both
computers. It seems to me that the weekly stable of the 15.04 release
is more stable than the actual 15.04 release (no empty kwallet
integration and stuff like that...) However, thank you for your time
anyway. You can close this if no one can reproduce.

[Bug 1450992] Re: audio and MIDI files irreversibly deleted from disk

2015-05-03 Thread Kaj Ailomaa
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
Unfortunately I do not have any hard data on this. I can only quote the
ardour development team on the last release of ardour3:

Ardour 3.5.403 is (yet another) CRITICAL bug fix release. ALL USERS ARE
RECOMMENDED TO UPGRADE. Additionally, ALL LINUX DISTRIBUTIONS SHOULD
IMMEDIATELY UPGRADE/UPDATE TO THIS RELEASE. Distributing earlier
versions of 3.5 at this point is irresponsible and risks our users'
  data.

As with 3.5.380, this release includes several more absolutely vital
fixes for bugs could lead to audio and MIDI files being irreversibly
  deleted from disk.

We still do not know precisely how these losses happened - no user ever
found a reliable recipe to recreate all of them - but reports from
several different users did lead to a careful code review which
uncovered some potential for file loss.

  source: http://ardour.org/news/3.5.older.html

- This was the last release of ardour3.
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Since reproducing seemed difficult, I never tried. I can only refer to
+ the quote above.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Regression potential should be small. This is not a major update. The
+ update I am proposing is also the last update ever for ardour3, since
+ ardour4 is now out.

[Bug 1444680] Re: System freezes randomly

2015-05-03 Thread Carl Englund
Seems more and more to me like a kernel bug affecting a specific
combination of hardware (my two laptops with the same ATI GPU + AMD
processors)..or perhaps, a hardware bug that needs a workaround. Sad to
see it looks like this one has been around for 7+ years already :-(

I'm working on fixing the CPU frequency at boot through cpufrequtils.
Maybe it will help.

upgrade my x1 carbon 3rd to 15.04 and all problems are gone. for those who
can upgrade easily (not need to backup or config a lot), maybe this is a
good choice.

   flacky.

What should happen: Graphics should not get flaky.

I have just installed ubuntu 14.04 on my new thinkpad t450s.
Everything basically works, but something is very flaky about my
keyboard or display or both. After running for awhile some apps
(E.g., thunderbird and sometimes emacs for example) will display
garbage. If I refresh by moving the screen around or changing
   buffers/tabs/etc. they can often recover.

I see that there is an [Intel(R) Graphics Installer for Linux*
   1.0.7](https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2014/intelr-graphics-

[Bug 1318040] Re: bbswitch prevents suspend and taints kernel

2015-05-03 Thread mcsan
For me on my UL30VT with ubuntu 15.04 it was:
 gcc version 4.9.2 (Ubuntu 4.9.2-10ubuntu13)

And cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.19.0-15-generic (buildd@komainu) (gcc version 4.9.2 (Ubuntu
4.9.2-10ubuntu13) ) #15-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 16 23:32:37 UTC 2015

Nevertheless, I discovered and remove some old gcc versions and re-installed
all dkms packages, but still have the same behaviour as detailed above. I
wonder if there are any ul*0vt laptops that are still working out there?
I will try installing bbswitch on a clean install of ubuntu when I have time

[Bug 1451277] Re: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic-vivid upgrade

2015-05-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1451277/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1451282] [NEW] Alt key doesn't work in Vivid Vervet with Emacs

2015-05-03 Thread Paul Eggert
Public bug reported:

Emacs has a handy feature with the Alt key. If I type, say Control-X 8
' a, it's as if I typed á, but once I've started doing that there's a
faster way to do it, namely, type Alt-' a. Unfortunately in Vivid
Vervet this doesn't seem to work: every time I type Alt-' Emacs acts
as if I typed Meta-', and similarly Alt-x is treated as if I typed
Meta-x, and so on for every character, which means that Alt is
essentially useless.

I tried all the methods suggested on the net to work around this, and
none of them worked. For example, the shell command 'xmodmap -pm'
reports:

xmodmap: up to 4 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lockCaps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Caps_Lock (0x42), Control_R (0x69)
mod1Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd)
mod2Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4Super_L (0x85), Super_R (0x86), Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf)
mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb)

but when I type, for example, xmodmap -e 'clear mod1', it complains:

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 118 (X_SetModifierMapping)
  Value in failed request: 0x17
Serial number of failed request: 8
Current serial number in output stream: 8

Apparently this has something to do with the change to Wayland, which
deprecates xmodmap. The Gnome keyboard settings UI doesn't let one
change how Alt works. gnome-tweak-tool complains as follows when I try
to run it:

$ gnome-tweak-tool
WARNING : Shell not installed or running
WARNING : Error detecting shell
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweaks/tweak_group_shell_extensions.py,

Exception: Shell not running or DBus service not available
WARNING : Shell not running
None
INFO: GSettings missing key org.gnome.nautilus.desktop (key
computer-icon-visible)

and if I ignore this and click on Typing, I get a bunch of seemingly-helpful
possibilities, none of which work (and, by the way, the menu choices are often
unreadable).
