[Bug 1399952] Re: [Dell Latitude 2110] dell_led driver does not auto-load (bad alias)

2015-05-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ben Harris, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1399952/+attachment/4275324/+files/ProcEnviron.txt

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Low = Medium

** Description changed:

On my Latitude 2110, the dell_led driver is useful for controlling the
LED on the lid. However, the driver doesn't load automatically on boot,
and so /sys/class/leds/dell::lid doesn't exist. I can load the module
manually (with sudo modprobe dell_led), or I can put this line in
  /etc/modprobe.d/local-dell-led.conf:

  alias wmi:F6E4FE6E-909D-47CB-8BAB-C9F6F2F8D396 dell_led

If I do the latter, then the module loads automatically at boot.

I note that modinfo dell_led says:

  alias: wmi:F6E4FE6E-909D-47cb-8BAB-C9F6F2F8D396

Note that the 47cb there is in lower case. I suspect that this is the
  cause of the problem.

I also note that the hp_wmi driver has a wmi: alias with lower-case
letters in, so it may require a similar fix.

[Bug 1458549] Re: grub-efi-amd64 update fails missing quote

2015-05-27 Thread ssducf
Additionally, the grub tools don't care about the parse error and give
neither warnings nor errors.

Only the updater tool cares about the parse error, and it crashes
without an error message (just an exit value), when it could easily fix
the parse error.

Re: [Bug 1455548] Re: upgrade 14.10 to 15.04 can't install kubuntu-desktop

2015-05-27 Thread Michael Lewis
Brian,

Sorry, no can do!

I have backed off to 14.04 and am staying there until a resolution
occurs or the next release comes out. I can't afford the time for
upgrade/downgrade experiments - the loss of all desktop settings and the
need to re-install add-on packages manually during such a process is
extremely time consuming.

I only went up to 14.10 so I could upgrade (in place) to 15.04.

Is such an automated upgrade (single step) from 14.04 to 15.04 planned?

Regards, Mike Lewis

- - Install network-manager, nfs-kernel-server, and setserial into a clean

- - With the fixed setserial package (upgrade, then reboot) there should be no
cycle and all services start up normally.

[Bug 1449005] Re: trim does not work with Samsung 840 EVO after firmware update (EXT0DB6Q)

2015-05-27 Thread Mark Rein
Turns out this I support Queued TRIM! issue is a year old and affected the
entire previous generation too:
Discovered by kernel devs in the 840 Pro and 840 Evo:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72341
and also discussed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1338706

Here is another brand (WD) doing the same thing in late 2013:
http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-arm-
kernel/2013-October/203508.html

The bottom line is: Samsung SSDs firmware have been updated to SATA 3.2 spec,
which includes Queued TRIM, and they advertise that they support it, but in
reality the firmware doesn't process those queued trims properly and seems to
eat random blocks instead, thus destroying random data.

From what I understand from the first link (see comment 48), these drives set
ATA IDENTIFY's word 77, bit 6 to 1, which means RECEIVE/SEND FPDMA QUEUED
supported. That FPDMA QUEUED is the thing used to send a queued TRIM. The
firmware does not actually support RECV/SEND FPDMA QUEUED, and just wrongly
claims that it does. If you try to retrieve log 13h the drive errors out,
but the spec says that if RECV/SEND FPDMA is supported then log 13h MUST also
be supported. So this is a clear case of Samsung's firmware department ticking
a flag for all the shiny SATA 3.2 features, and not actually making sure they
implemented them all. Very, very shoddy.

Since this problem affects all modern Samsung SSDs, it's really up to Samsung
to fix their firmware. It's NOT up to the operating systems to blacklist
misbehaving drives. Are we really gonna have to wait until Windows does Queued
TRIM and millions of people lose data, for them to react to their broken
firmware?

It has proven futile to talk to Samsung via their regular support contact form.
This bug report needs to come from someone with better access to intelligent
humans at Samsung (they must exist, right?). I know of only two people with
direct access to Samsung firmware people:
- Marc Carino marc.ce [at] gmail.com , who wrote in kernel.org bug
#72341 on 2014-05, that he was reaching out to Samsung's firmware department
about the problem.
- Martin K. Petersen from Oracle martin.petersen [at] oracle.com , who wrote
on the kernel mailing list on 2015-05-04 about contacting Samsung.

[Bug 1452644] Re: NFSd does not start due to systemd ordering cycle with setserial

2015-05-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package setserial - 2.17-48ubuntu1

---
setserial (2.17-48ubuntu1) wily; urgency=medium

  * Add debian/setserial.service systemd unit, mostly to relax the very
demanding Before=sysinit.target plus After=remote-fs.target combination
resulting from the init.d script's $remote_fs dependency. This causes an
insatisfiable dependency loop when using NFS and NetworkManager.
(LP: #1452644)
  * Add dh-systemd build dependency and call dh_systemd_enable in
debian/rules.

[Bug 1399952] Re: [Dell Latitude 2110] dell_led driver does not auto-load (bad alias)

2015-05-27 Thread Ben Harris
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected staging

** Description changed:

On my Latitude 2110, the dell_led driver is useful for controlling the
LED on the lid. However, the driver doesn't load automatically on boot,
and so /sys/class/leds/dell::lid doesn't exist. I can load the module
manually (with sudo modprobe dell_led), or I can put this line in
  /etc/modprobe.d/local-dell-led.conf:

  alias wmi:F6E4FE6E-909D-47CB-8BAB-C9F6F2F8D396 dell_led

If I do the latter, then the module loads automatically at boot.

I note that modinfo dell_led says:

  alias: wmi:F6E4FE6E-909D-47cb-8BAB-C9F6F2F8D396

Note that the 47cb there is in lower case. I suspect that this is the
  cause of the problem.

I also note that the hp_wmi driver has a wmi: alias with lower-case
letters in, so it may require a similar fix.

[Bug 1458373] Re: Updating to kernel 3.13.0.53 causes kernel panic on login

2015-05-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Dillon, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very
top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue.

[Bug 1458208] Re: AR8161 ethernet stopped working after upgrade from 3.19.0-16 to 3.19.0-18

2015-05-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mark Sapiro, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-
Pavilion-HPE-h8-1300-Desktop-PC-series/5258496/model/5261720 an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (8.21). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1446177] Re: Nodeinfo returns wrong NUMA topology / bad virtualization performance

2015-05-27 Thread Stefan Bader
Weird. The initial scan should be able to open /sys/devices/system/node and
then iterate over node0..7. Inside for example /sys/devices/system/node/node0/
there should be (the output unfortunately does not show as those are links)
links for each cpu associated with that node. So in case of node0 there should
be cpu0..7 pointing to ../../cpu/cpu0...7. Can you confirm those are there?
The only cases that would drop back to hard set the nodes to 1 seem to be:
- not being able to read /sys/devices/system/node
- failing to find /sys/devices/system/node/nodenum/cpunum entries
- failing to read from
/sys/devices/system/node/nodenum/cpunum/topology/physical_package_id
(sockets = max(physical_package_id)+1 - should be 4 according to sysfs data)
- failing to allocate the socket bitmap which seems unlikely

And there is really nothing related to sysfs parsing in
/var/log/libvirt/libvirt.log?

[Bug 1445195] Re: [Hyper-V] Kernel patches for storvsc

fine, however at reboot the VM fails to boot

Looking now to get a serial log and to see if it's repro on other

In the SMIL description, the Image region is described twice:

  layout
  region id=Image width=100% height=100% fit=meet /
  region id=Text width=100% height=100% fit=scroll /
  region id=Image width=100% height=100% fit=meet /
  /layout

(it is used only once in the smil body, although this is probably
  irrelevant)
+
+ It is not impossible that this causes problems, as id is xml:id,
+ which must be unique, and parsers are supposed to validate that (see
+ http://www.w3.org/TR/xml-id/)

[Bug 1448487] Re: Shimmer-theme Greybird does not get along with LXAppearance

2015-05-27 Thread Mélodie
Hi Simon,

I understand that I should hence recompile this theme to make it
compliant with the logout UI? I won't.

I came to point to it in a bug report, because my belief is that any GTK
theme should fit in any kind of GTK friendly desktop environment.
LXAppearance has a switch to make these buttons appear or not appear, on
the user level. I would suppose the Xfce4 themes could be delivered with
a choice available in the user session which other GTK3 themes provide,
that's to say, either make it show or no, at will.

The default could be 0 if you want it so, as long as the end user has
*the choice*.

Thanks for your explanation.

Best regards,
Mélodie

[Bug 1295030] Re: Please backport latest ntfs-3g to precise and trusty

2015-05-27 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
A very valid argument is the better handling of ntfs-resize with UEFI.

@ Bernhard

a valid request for SRU-backporting is a little more complicated, pls
read carefully

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports

It has to be requested first for the current version of Ubuntu (which is
VividVervet) - then backported to Utopic - then to Trusty - then to
Precise

Once the first steo is done, the request should appear in
https://launchpad.net/vivid-backports

[Bug 819775] Re: Broadcasting input across multiple terminator windows repeats keypresses many times

2015-05-27 Thread Lukas Vacek
A quick patch (a really quick workaround) attached - it probably messes
up broadcasting when the ibus is *not* installed.

But it fixes the double broadcasting in the default install.

To apply:

apt-src install terminator
cd terminator
export QUILT_PATCHES=debian/patches
export QUILT_REFRESH_ARGS=-p ab --no-timestamps --no-index
quilt push broadcast_double_with_ibus_workaround.diff
dpkg-buildpackage
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i terminator_0.97-4_all.deb

This seems to fix it (at least for one version upgrade) for many

   $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331

   after that...

   $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331-uvm

(some users may be on the versions of these packages suffixed with
   -updates )

   Update 2015-05-23:
As of the recent kernel update (3.13.0-53), the above two commands
followed by a reboot may not fix it. Instead:

   $ sudo apt-get install --reinstall nvidia-331 nvidia-331-uvm

   followed by a reboot.

[Bug 1458422] Re: Touchpad doesn't work after suspend Xubuntu 15.04

2015-05-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Natanael Souza dos Santos, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

[Bug 1448487] Re: Shimmer-theme Greybird does not get along with LXAppearance

2015-05-27 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
All you have to do is edit your /usr/share/themes/Greybird/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
file, which is a text file. So any editor will do.

What I asked was for you to check whether that fixes the issue, in
Xubuntu users have that choice too, but everything works fine here. If
it fixes things with LXAppearance (and if it doesn't break things in
Xubuntu) I wouldn't mind switching it to 1 by default.

[Bug 1459128] Re: metacity no longer honors keybindings without modmask?

2015-05-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1459128/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

If I boot normally, I can use my keyboard in GRUB to select boot
options. If I then boot into Xubuntu (14.04.2), the keyboard and mouse
are not responding (except in rare cases). I can not Ctrl-Alt-F1 to a
console and can not use Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot.

The only way I can boot into Linux is by disconnecting mouse and
keyboard before turning on my pc, waiting for the lightdm login screen,
plug in my keyboard and mouse. In this case everything always seems to
work normally.

I have just (26 May 2015) updated my bios to the most recent available
version, A07 and all packages are up to date.

The automatically generated files in this bug report are from a boot in
which I unplugged mouse and keyboard first, so that I was able to login.
