[Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2015-11-01 Thread Florian Sievers
15.201-0ubuntu2~15.10.2 doesn't work for me. I have a Radeon HD5770 and
I still get a black screen and a constantly louder GPU Fan when booting
with FGLRX. Also did a amdconfig --initial like I did in the past with
many Ubuntu versions. But this time it won't help. Came to Wily from
Vivid.

When booting with propertery driver and getting the blank screen, the
system seems to be deadlocked. MagicSysRq (RAISUB) won't work and I had
to push the hardware reset button.

Using Kernel 4.2.0-17-generic

[Bug 1009039] Re: unreadable text with adwaita theme

2015-11-01 Thread Alfagulf
I am using Ubuntu 15.10 and I am getting this problem when Adwaita theme is
selected.
I I change the theme to Ambiance then the text in Software Center is readable
whoever I loose the ability to re-size some windows like Nautilus and Tweaks
using the mouse.

I am using nvidia binary driver ver. 340.93.

Please note that when I install and select Greybird theme, then both
problems are solved.

May be I am not installing all Gnome packages, I am using both Unity and Gnome,
I do prefer Gnome however.
How do I check if all Gnome packages are installed?

Thanks

[Bug 1440210]

2015-11-01 Thread dovidhalevi
Created attachment 95164
attachment-15798-0.html

Most probably correct, except did not have problems until recent Sid
upgrades. Situation is getting worse, cannot even get plasmashell up
without a freeze, writing this on a live CD. I suspect this was from the
disk, but if that cache is on a disk, it is not on the suspect disk, and
I am beginning to suspect smartctl more than the disks.I would like to
get back up, make sure xrender is chosen and disable all desktop
effects. Should be better behaved. The kwin fix was OK until I rebooted,
then plasmashell would not start so removed the file. Probably based on
an older version in any event.- Original Message -From: Thomas

[Bug 1440210]

2015-11-01 Thread dovidhalevi
Sorry for the mess. Must remember to specify plain text each time (not
default) in the provider's mail site.

Suggestion to simply remove /.cache? This is on a maybe problematic
disk. I would assume if this is being used, KDE would just make a new
one.

Since 1. The system-settings item to turn off compositing, select
xrender, itself, freezes things so I cannot get to it, and 2. I will
sometimes not even get far enough in plasmashell start up to do
alt/shift/F12 at least -- is there any way I can set these manually so
all KDE sessions will default this way?

As I said, I do not use this anymore. However, what I used in the past
was:

$ cat > /etc/profile.d/kwin-fix.sh
export KWIN_USE_BUFFER_AGE=0

[Bug 1512068] [NEW] Python ctypes.util , Shell Injection in find_library()

I see the same behaviour, and also have no ~/.cache/upstart/indicator-

Also noticed that killing the indicator-power-service process causes it
to get started again, and then the icon shows up

[Bug 1512080] [NEW] Thunar crashing when pasting files

2015-11-01 Thread Mary Sherman
Public bug reported:

Sometimes, when I paste (from moving) files, thunar crashes immediately
after having pasted them.

I don't see any relation to the parameters of files being moved (eg.

The effect is that shortly after pasting (Ctrl+V, or right mouse
click->Paste), the thunar window disappears, but I can observe from
inspecting the destination directory, that the files have been copied.

[Bug 1511292] Re: Online address book can't be set up due to keyring request

2015-11-01 Thread Barry Drake
I have just reported a bug in the password manager as bug #1512083 I
think this is the problem at the root of the bug I have reported here.
The fact that is impossible to prevent the password manager from storing
the Google/Evolution password seems to be the cause. I've reported it
as a Seahorse bug.

[Bug 1512092] [NEW] No details when transfer is aborted

2015-11-01 Thread Jani Monoses
Public bug reported:

On the phone I am using an app scoped content store instantiated from
QML.

When importing an item that already exists in the store, the transfer is
aborted without any apparent information on what the item was. This
makes sense since we already have the item, but for my use case -
attachment to a message - it would help to know which item was
attempted, so it can be taken from the existing store.

[Bug 1511101] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled (expected 1, found 0) appears repeatedly during boot; Ubuntu boots normally to GNOME3 afterwards

2015-11-01 Thread Vukasin Toroman
Hi everyone.

I have had this issue on my Lenovo Yoga with 15.10 . After trying
different beta kernels from Ubuntu and getting the same crashes, I've
installed the 4.2.5 mainline kernel and the problem went away. So I
guess the error must have been introduced in one of Canonical's patches.

Also, using 4.2.5 mainline kernel (can be found here
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.2.5-wily/) can be a
good workaround.

Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
Start the computer after a sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

What should have happend:
the new kernel should have loaded and the computer should work normally

What really happened:
Kernel Panic
When I start the computer I get a Kernel Panic - Not Syncing: VFS: Unable to
mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0).
When I reboot into the previous kernel I am able to create this error report.

There needs to be way of checking or ensuring that the new kernel is
properly installed before rebooting. I don't want to even imagine this
kernel panic happening on one of my remote machines.

[Bug 1512066] [NEW] Desktop screen and icon corruption

2015-11-01 Thread Geoff
Public bug reported:

This is now the 3 rd time to reinstall 15.10. Previously the 15.04 version has
been re-installed.
Under 15.04 the problem (bug) was restricted to the desktop background image in
that after a few days and new updates loaded the screen became corrupted with
the appearance of a view like looking through opaque reed glass. The blame was
put on 'Variety' which was in use. Peter Levi terms this problem a 'low key
bug'? It makes no difference whether 'Variety' is in use or not
As the problem (bug) only affected the desktop background then it was workable.
The new release of 15.10 was hoped to iron out the problem, but once again
after receiving updates corruption began, and is much more severe in that icons
become distorted when the mouse passes over them sections of text work become
a. invisible or b. distorted to be unreadable.
To date I have re-installed 15.10 four times. Everything is stable until I
begin to accept updates. and the corruption begins.
I have brought up this problem before since 23 rd October.
I cannot be the only individual suffering from this problem. I have two
machines and the results are the same on both. I have changed monitors to no
avail.
The programme was re-installed yesterday and is stable without any updates.
I run also windows 10 on this machine but have experienced no problems with
display or documents text/ icons

I'm also affected by this bug, however it only occours when playing AAC
files for me MP3 and FLAC play without issue.

The only messages I get in terminal are
"*** stack smashing detected ***: clementine terminated", it then hangs for a
moment followed by it crashing entirely. I'm on Xubuntu 15.04.

[Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip

2015-11-01 Thread Cass Stephen
Under Ubuntu-Mate 15.04 only my wallpaper, scroll-sliders, and right window
edges were garbled.
After do-release-upgrade to 15.10 all of the things are hashed garbled tearing
whatever, even the text, even inside terminal windows.

Cory Davis (corzneffect) is correct;
Downgrading the video acceleration from "sna" to "uxa" works as a temporary fix:

#Create a config file;
sudo nano /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

#Add the following lines
Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

#reboot

[Bug 1512081] [NEW] Network manager doesn't allow password storage of wifi networks with hidden SSID

2015-11-01 Thread Mary Sherman
Public bug reported:

My home network has a hidden SSID, but the new (compared to 14.04)
network manager doesn't allow to store the password, so I have to enter
it every time I want to connect (this also applies to reconnections
after system wake-up, from standbys).

This is very annoying, and doesn't make much sense, as NM is remembering
the network (SSID) - it just doesn't store the password.

[Bug 1103460] Re: JRuby needs to be updated

2015-11-01 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
The build failures from previous comments were resolved, and jruby
1.7.21-2ubuntu4 is available in Ubuntu 15.10. It might be possible to
make this available for older Ubuntu releases via backports, but that
would likely include backports of several dependencies as well, see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports#Requesting_a_Backport for
details.

For those looking towards the future, there is ongoing work in Debian to
package the 9.0.0.0 release, but it is currently blocked/waiting on a
newer version of maven-polyglot, see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=792150.

[Bug 1511975] Re: /lib/systemd/system/console-setup.service has incorrect ExecStart

2015-11-01 Thread Colin Watson
These are intentionally separated to avoid causing other problems (the
rules for when one may safely set the font are rather complicated - with
some console drivers, it's vital that the foreground virtual console not
be in KD_GRAPHICS mode in order to avoid corrupting graphics memory).
The font is intended to be set from /lib/udev/rules.d/85-keyboard-
configuration.rules, and indeed should have already been set from an
initramfs script before that. Perhaps you could debug why that isn't
working for you?

[Bug 1440210]

2015-11-01 Thread Thomas-luebking
See eg. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-247253.html

Please notice that nouveau has nowhere production quality reg. OpenGL - Plasma
5 with its pleathora of GL contexts is likely just "too much".
Unless you've a very strong reason (unsupported HW) resort to the nvidia blob.
Otherwise I suggest to avoid OpenGL as much as possible (ie. disable HW
acceleration in firefox etc, use xrender compositing) in case of troubles.
And ensure to run recent kernel and mesa versions (not stable/reliable at all,
but likely less static bugs)

2015-11-01 Thread Kirill Bogdanenko
Hi Thomas,

I think this report should then be closed as invalid. Comments in this
thread (useful information) should be splitted into separate reports.
Because this report here serves nothing but a garbage bin.

BTW, for me the issue described in name is solved: first I used a
workaround KWIN_USE_BUFFER_AGE=0, then the issue dissapeared completely
(not using the workaroud now).

*This* bug is meanwhile a mess of random "somthing doesn't work" reports
(full /var, corrupted plasma theme caches, whatnot else) and can thus
never be treated nor fixed.

Works so far.
Only get the buffer errors from a "smart-notifier" on kde start up. None from
iceweasel so far (which was I prime offender).

So far, so good.

Time to treat this. Plasma becoming almost unusable.
Get repeated nouveau cache read errors which will hang the system.
Could be disk-oriented, may not.

Re-built USB drive via mkusb.
Built 15.10 system successfully.
Looks like bad iso downloaded

Like others, had kernel error as reported in another post

[Bug 1512083] [NEW] checkbox on password request popup window has no effect

2015-11-01 Thread Barry Drake
Public bug reported:

I think this is the root problem with the bug I reported as bug #1511292
as an Evolution bug. I tested the problem out by creating a dummy email
address and allowing the password to be stored by the password manager
with the box unchecked. I now have a request for the dummy password
every time I open my email client. This behaviour is identical to the
problem I had in the #1511292 bug report.

[Bug 1512087] [NEW] Please merge batik from Debian

2015-11-01 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

Please merge the latest version of batik from Debian.

In the Ubuntu changelog I found the following comment "fix upstream
version since we're stuck with this fake upstream version until the next
upstream release" which I guess explains 1.7.ubuntu-8ubuntu3. Now that
batik 1.8-3 has been packaged in Debian, I think that it might be able
to resolve this issue. It looks like not all of the patches have been
included in Debian, so an Ubuntu-delta is probably still necessary.

(The latest version of jasperreports requires batik >= 1.8 in order to build)

[Bug 1507201] Re: mouse cursor is invisible after installation of 32 bit Xubuntu 14.04.3; 15.04, 15.10 betas and daily image

2015-11-01 Thread Kafshiel
The mouse pointer/cursor still disappears sometimes after boot. I have
to reboot to get it back. Xubuntu won't remember my choice for the
default mouse. I tried oxy-white and other oxygen pointers to no avail
(they only work for the current session, after you reboot you get DMZ-
White again or the invisible mouse!). I tried selecting DMZ-White/Black
to no avail. If I choose oxy-white as my default cursor it should just
be there and work. Ditto. I then proceeded to examine
usr/share/icons/default/index.theme (you don't have folder context menu
to open as admin like Linux Mint so "sudo mousepad /usr..., etc) and
found out that it gives 6 Theme parsing errors for that file:
"gtk.css:27:35: junk at the end of file" and 5 more where just the
numbers change (the next is 40:48: etc...). I edited that file from
"[Icon Theme] Inherits=DMZ-White" to [Icon Theme] Inherits=oxy-white and
now I'm gonna see what happens. This has automatically changed the
symlink at /etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme to reflect the new oxy-white
choice as default (it's now also [Icon Theme] Inherits=oxy-white) Those
parsing errors shouldn't be there. Remember that my Xubuntu version is
15.10 wily i386 (32 bit). I have a screenshot of these steps, which
includes all 6 Theme parsing errors but I'm trying to take a screenshot
of the invisible mouse, which I think will be more useful because it
will prove that the bug indeed happens. I changed the target to xubuntu
daily builds to see if the bug is caught and solved before 16.04. I also
decided that x-cursor-theme should be the package, although it seems
more like a configuration problem. Thanks.

[Bug 1511844] Re: System freezes occasionally

2015-11-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Freek, did this problem not occur in a release prior to 15.04?

** Description changed:

- Occasionally my system freezes totally. When this happens, the screen
- totally freezes, no mouse movements anymore. Switching to Console via
- Ctrl-Alt-F1 or rebooting via Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work. I have waited
- at least 30 min, but the system doesn't seem to recover.
+ Occasionally my system freezes totally in 15.04 and 15.10. Switching to
+ Console via Ctrl-Alt-F1 or rebooting via Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work.

Some days my system will run for many hours without any problem, and on
- other days I experience 2 or 3 freezes in an hour time. So far I have
- not noticed any similarities between the moments of freezing in regard
- to programs running etc.
-
- I filled in this report after reading
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1509723 which
- seemed to describe the same thing to me, on a same brand laptop. The
- freezes happened both on Ubuntu 15.04 and 15.10
+ other days I experience 2 or 3 freezes in an hour time.

[Bug 1511045] Re: Gpu hang unexpected

2015-11-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
as, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very
top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and
please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1511162] Re: Trackpad not working - Ubuntu 15.04

2015-11-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jay Modi, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/inspiron-15-5547-laptop/drivers/advanced an update to
your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A08). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it address the issue?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1510157] Re: Drivers issue

2015-11-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Adriano, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1510157 you
are using the fglrx software you installed a few days ago.

Hence, if you want to use the open source drivers, you would need to
uninstall the fglrx software.

As this is not a software bug, but a technical support issue, this
report is being closed. If you have further support issues, one may
utilize the Technical answers system as outlined in
http://www.ubuntu.com/support .

[Bug 1512116] Re: gparted ignores devid for btrfs filesystem

2015-11-01 Thread Curtis Gedak
Thank you Rolf for your interest in improving GParted.

This problem was fixed upstream in GParted 0.20.0. See the following
upstream bug report:

GParted resizes the wrong filesystem (does not pass the devid to btrfs
filesystem resize)
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=723842

The latest version of GParted at time of writing is 0.24.0.
Unfortunately the versions packaged in Ubuntu are quite old.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu

** Description changed:

Since upgrading to 15.10 I am having trouble with most of the desktop
and other icons and some text. The problem seems to be that the screen
painting lines are out of synch.

This means that most of the icons on the desktop are almost unreadable
and spread laterally. Also PDF documents are unreadable. The raster
graphics that I have imported into Inkscape are unusable.

I am using a Dell Vostro 220 and Dell screens. The affect is the same
whether I use a wide screen or a more conventional profile.

[Bug 1511145] Re: compiz freeze

2015-11-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
stef.baly, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5405142=8=4060
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(1.33). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.
