[Bug 1505564] Re: Soft lockup with "block nbdX: Attempted send on closed socket" spam

2015-12-30 Thread Junien Fridrick
Re-reading comment #318 Dan, I realize that we may be investigating a
symptom and not the root cause.

Whenever the soft-lockup happens, the serial console does get flooded
"block nbdX: Attempted send on closed socket". If the serial console
getting flooded causes soft lockups, then it is indeed a concerning
issue, but shouldn't we focus, in this bug, on making nbd not flood the
console in the first place ?

[Bug 1493143] Re: rtl8723be wifi unusable on lenovo ideapad y50-70

2015-12-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Henk Stubbe, to advise, it's much easier to debug, and keep upstream's
attention, when talking about one router with easy access to specifics
(ex. Linksys), versus all the different ones that may be connected to,
and/or ones where specifics aren't available.

Despite this, with your device specifically, it has a two-parter, the
kernel, which you have tested a later version of, and the firmware,
which is the older one in Trusty.

Hence, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, could you please test this with the latest firmware, and latest
upstream kernel?

The latest firmware is available in Vivid+, or via

Regarding the latest mainline kernel, could you please test the latest
one available from the very top line at the top of the page from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder)? Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

This is a real bug... The most likely reason why it stopped reproducing

In any case, upstream fix (or workaround) is here:

[Bug 1504134] Re: Error 404 upon sudo apt-get update for Wily repositories

Indeed these ppa's urls are invalid, as the required 'ppa owner' is not set.
It's easy to check those fake 'ppa' ending to 'launchpad.net' into your browser.

Why these urls have been added to sources.list ? and from where have
they been found ?

[Bug 1530187] [NEW] r852 & r592 IRQ: DMA errors cause log files to grow *HUGE*

2015-12-30 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I have many crash messages related to r852 & r592 modules in my syslog files.
I had already submitted a bug report for that (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1500156 ) but since that
time, I upgraded to 15.10. The issue is still there, but displayed a bit
differently (stack trace now).
This issue slows down the machine and can also lead to a disk full in /var/log
I guess. My current syslog is about 4GB large and is 1 day old.

Typical messages I get :
[104370.032867] r592: IRQ: card added
[104370.032873] r592: IRQ: DMA error

I've read some posts/other bug reports related to the same issue :

http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2014-08/msg01076.html

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1119361

https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1907131=1

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=892249

I would be glad if some solution is proposed to stop filling these logs
!

Cheers,

Laurent

[Bug 1304805] Re: KDE desktop login failure: "Could not start d-bus. Can you call qdbus?"

2015-12-30 Thread tentonine
A better fix is to run:
sudo apt-get install qdbus

This will remove an existing 32-bit package and replace it with 64-bit.
After running this, it worked fine for me without needing to change the
quotes in startkde.

I saw this here: https://liquidat.wordpress.com/2013/04/29/short-tip-

[Bug 1529681] Re: Please sync Electrum from Debian testing

2015-12-30 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Current state of issues describer in bug 1481003:

> tlslite dependency
Electrum doesn't depend on tlslite since 2.4.1, current version in Debian
repository is 2.5.4.

> poor handling of certificate verification
Electrum correctly check certificates. Confirmation:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=792231#42

As I understand other concerns simply boiling down to old version
obsolescence - due to nature of this software this package will need to
be updated in the future as well - it's big issue?

2015-12-30 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
This remains an issue for me in Ubuntu 15.10. Most of the time, when I launch
freemind, the launching-progress-bar only makes it to about 10% as can be seen
in this screenshot:
http://neartalk.com/ss/2015-12-30_001_300x200.png

Sometimes I have to kill the dependent java process 4 or 5 times before
freemind will launch successfully.

Above I've provided more details about this issue, and I'm hoping
someone who understands those details can provide me a suggestion.

[Bug 1530183] [NEW] There is no branch for bash-completion

2015-12-30 Thread Danial Behzadi

I tried to get bash-completion code to develop. As it says here[1], I tried:

But it says:

I can get the wily branch at [2], but I want to add some features to the main
Ubuntu repository, in order to take effect in all supported releases.

[Bug 1521789] Re: firefox freezes with GStreamer-WARNING **: External plugin loader failed.

2015-12-30 Thread Dennis Sheil
Going on skomorokh's advice I downloaded the apparmor tools to put
things into complain mode and so forth.

Theoretically this should not have fixed firefox, but it seems to have
done so for me. Firefox always used to freeze within minutes for me.
Now it hasn't frozen in days. I didn't do anything other than install
the apparmor-profiles and apparmor-utils packages and tinker with
complain a little. I did *not* note what files it complained about nor
did I whitelist any. Yet it started working, and has done so for the
past few days.

[Bug 1439440] Re: Laptop does not go to sleep when closing lid with external monitor connected

2015-12-30 Thread aexl
Same here since 15.04 on lenovo l540 (intel graphics).

Changing the /etc/system.d/logind.conf default like suggested in comment 12
workarounded the problem for me.
(For details and discussion see this SO thread:
http://askubuntu.com/a/715052/18422 )

We should focus on making this configurable, but this concerns another
package. Anyone got an idea which?

[Bug 1530171] [NEW] [Regression] Thinkpad dock: External monitors not recognized after 15.04 upgrade

2015-12-30 Thread aexl
Public bug reported:

On Thinkpad L540 with intel graphics:

External monitors are not recognized in display settings when plugged in
(into any port including VGA).

They *are* recognized after a reboot (not after logout).
After plugging out and the in again they are not recognized.

A monitor plugged into the internal VGA is recognized instantly.

Everything used to work with 14.10, but stopped with 15.04.

A recent test with 1510 live CD did not fix this.

** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1530197] [NEW] Login screen asks for wifi password on startup

2015-12-30 Thread Jaromir Obr
Public bug reported:

Similar to #1270791

Steps I did:

# Install Ubuntu desktop from live image (fresh installation)
# Set WiFi connection and enter password - it's saved well. I'm using a hidden
network with WPA2-PSK encryption
# Reboot

Expected result:
As the password was saved, no dialog requiring it appears

Actual result:
Always when I get the login screen, the popup window asking for password
appears.
Note that when I login, the network connection is established correctly

Workaround: Disable the option "All users may connect to this network"
in the wifi connection settings. The dialog with password won't appear
(OK), however wifi is not functional in login screen.

Used HW:
laptop HP Envy 13 Skylake (13-d006nc), network adapter Intel Wireless AC-7265,
WiFi router Comtrend VR-3026e Multi-DSL

Used SW:
Ubuntu 15.10 x64 desktop (unity)

2015-12-30 Thread Daniel Eloff
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Entering the correct password does not login (entering bad password does
give a bad password error, this is distinct), trying to start a guest
session also fails. Rebooting and choosing the previous 3.19.0-41 kernel
works fine. This bug report is sent after booting from *-41.

I have the proprietary Nvidia drivers installed, the recommended version
352.63 from the additional drivers tab. The nouveau drivers do not work
with my Nvidia 970 system, they cause me to sometimes get a black screen
instead of booting into the OS, also with the install disk, and even
with other linux distros. The proprietary drivers fix that issue for me,
  regardless of distro.

I'll keep the "buggy" kernel version around for now in case I can help
  debug this issue.

I am seeing this problem on OpenSUSE with kernel-desktop versions 3.15.6
(stable repo) and 3.16.0 (HEAD repo).

The log files on my laptop, /var/log/messages and /var/log/warn, will
grow HUGE with the following repeated over and over along with some
extraneous related log entries:

2014-08-15T12:18:41.396981-04:00 localhost kernel: [17310.691176] r592: IRQ:
card added
2014-08-15T12:18:41.396983-04:00 localhost kernel: [17310.691178] r592: IRQ:
DMA error
.

.
2014-08-15T12:18:41.397001-04:00 localhost kernel: [17311.223846] r592: IRQ:
card added
2014-08-15T12:18:41.397004-04:00 localhost kernel: [17311.223847] r592: IRQ:
DMA error

On any given day, there will be tens of thousands of these entries such
that /var/log/messages and /var/log/warn will both exceed 3GB within a
day (over 6GB total).

I believe that this bug is generated due to the presence of a Ricoh
R5C592 Memory Stick Adapter on my laptop and which has never been
properly recognized by the stock linux kernels. Apparently, the kernel
developers keep trying to make it work but have now introduced a
"bigger" problem so to speak since it is now causing all these
extraneous error messages to be generated in the logs.

I am seeing this bug on OpenSUSE with kernel-desktop versions 3.15.6 and
3.16.0. This bug does not appear to be present in the OpenSUSE stock
3.11.6 and 3.11.10 kernels. I have since reverted back to the earlier
kernels that don't have this problem.

This bug has also been reported at Red Hat's bugzilla at:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1119361

IMHO, this bug needs to be fixed prior to the release of OpenSUSE 13.2.

FYI,

Gordon

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot
2. Wait a while. It sometimes takes an hour or two for the log errors to begin
at top volume.
Actual Results:
Logs grow *HUGE* with r592IRQ: DMA errors and related entries.

Expected Results:
Logger should not produce error messages of this magnitude and size.

I am not a kernel developer and so I'm not sure how to build r592.c with
the patch, however, I would be happy to test it if somebody else would
build it for me. Alternatively, if its simple to do, then please
provide some instructions and I will attempt to build it.

Also, the following is from a post at:

https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/494706-openSUSE-13-1-KDE-
inconsistant-resume-from-Suspend-to-RAM?p=2661131#post2661131

Quoting Romanator: "The most recent openSUSE kernel (3.11.10-21-desktop)
Makefile for the r592.c from Maxim Levitsky is from 2010. His final
patch wasn't submitted until Jan. 8, 2011. Ask the openSUSE
kernel devs to look at and backport patch #5b945a6 from this link:
https://gitorious.org/ricoh-kernel/ricoh-kernel.git ".

So, it doesn't look like the OpenSUSE kernel has the most recent r592
driver...

Also, there is a good bit of recent activity by the r592 developer,
Maxim Levitsky, on this exact same bug at Red Hat's Bugzilla site here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1119361

The bottom line is that someone needs to make sure that OpenSUSE is
using the most recent version of r592.c.

Gordon

[Bug 1530204] [NEW] "composer create-project drupal/drupal hellodrupal 8.0.0" throws error

Was considering reporting this to the composer folks, but I see that version of
composer
doesn't even know its own version:
$ composer --version

Uninstalling this composer and using the dreaded "curl | php" method to install
it worked around both problems,
so it looks like ubuntu's composer needs to be refreshed from upstream.

[Bug 1530205] [NEW] X Segfaults

2015-12-30 Thread Klaas van Schelven
Public bug reported:

My system started crashing at regular intervals (10 minutes to one hour)
since this afternoon;

I'm not aware of running any updates, but I might have done an "aptitude
safe-upgrade" anywhere in the past week. I'm fully up to date on Ubuntu
14.04.3 now.

The problems seem to exclusively occur when running Chrome (47) /
Chromium (45) (I switched to that browser when the problem occurred a
few times, but this didn't solve it), but this may also simply be a
consequence of my browser being the most Graphics-heavy part of the
system.

I'm running on a MacbookPro, inside Parallels; this was not a problem
until this afternoon.

[Bug 1530194] Re: setserial =>ERROR CODE 1!! after apt-get autoremove

2015-12-30 Thread Don Juan Santiago
I solved the issue using the following links

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1597294

alt+f2... gksudo lxterminal... sudo dpkg --force-all -P setserial

http://askubuntu.com/questions/539235/how-to-remove-obsolete-packages-
after-failed-release-upgrade-via-do-release-upgr

apt-get update

apt-get autoremove

apt-get clean

UNUSCONF=$(dpkg -l|grep "^rc"|awk '{print $2}')

apt-get remove --purge $UNUSCONF

NEWKERNEL=$(uname -r|sed 's/-*[a-z]//g'|sed 's/-386//g')

ADDKERNEL="linux-(image|headers|ubuntu-modules|restricted-modules)"

METAKERNEL="linux-(image|headers|restricted-
modules)-(generic|i386|server|common|rt|xen)"

UNUSKERNELS=$(dpkg -l|awk '{print $2}'|grep -E $ADDKERNEL |grep -vE
$METAKERNEL|grep -v $NEWKERNEL)

apt-get remove --purge $UNUSKERNELS

update-grub

*** than after a reboot.. using Synaptic Package Manager.. reinstalled
setserial package

P.S. I guess Upgrading from lubuntu 15.04 with 3.19 version of vmlinuz
to 15.10 doesnt cleanup all the old upgrades...
