[Bug 1537096] [NEW] Unable to Install/Partition Disks on HP ZBook 14 G2

2016-01-22 Thread Ryan Revels
Public bug reported:

When trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or Ubuntu 15.10 on an HP ZBook 14 G2,
the following error occurs when trying to partition disks:
"Attempt to mount a filesystem with type ext4 in SCSI7 (0,0,0). partition #1 at
/ failed."

I have tried to on two different, identical machines and have only been
able to install Linux (Mint 17.1) with kernel 3.13. It seems all newer
versions fail. Specs of the hardware are here:

[Bug 1537098] [NEW] Switching users in the greeter doesn't respect the selected user's language.

2016-01-22 Thread Josh Arenson
Public bug reported:

User A uses English as their language
User B uses Hebrew as their language

User A is initially selected in the greeter
User B selects themselves in the greeter and the greeter, indicators, and OSK
remain in English

Not only does this make life difficult for User B, but if User B's
password is in Hebrew, the are unable to login at all.

Resolving this is a large undertaking as it requires changes to unity8,
indicators, and maliit.

[Bug 1440422] Re: No hardware mouse cursor with modesetting X driver

2016-01-22 Thread Shevek
Both the intel and the modesetting driver are stable in 4.2
4.0 wouldn't boot because it couldn't deal with (multiple) encrypted disks via
crypttab
I went back to trying X servers again in an attempt to see whether there was
any correlation with #1535426
It may have been fixed in a later 3.19 but couldn't test due to #1386005 but
having solved that, I may now test a 3.19 again with the new BIOS.

[Bug 1533009] Re: arm64: "unsupported RELA relocation"

2016-01-22 Thread Christophe Lyon
I prefer you submit the Makefile patch upstream, since I'm not very
familiar with kernel lists.

I am going to look at a patch for GCC-6, such that this optimization is
disabled by default when compiling with -mfix-cortex-a53-843419. You
could then use -mfix-cortex-a53-843419 to compile the kernel, instead of
-mpc-relative-literal-loads.

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I run Ubuntu 14.04 since it was released with no problems. Since I
installed kernel 3.13.0-74 with system updates my system hangs up every
one or two days. I can still switch between consoles (including
graphical console #7) but all running applications hang up, I cannot
start any commands in a terminal and cannot log in in colsole or via
  ssh.

This also happens with kernel 3.13.0-76, which was installed on Jan. 20.

- When I switch back to kernel 3.13.0-71 everything runs stable. For
- several weeks. I never had and have a problem with this kernel version.

[Bug 1255500] Re: banshee scope reports length in milliseconds for previews

2016-01-22 Thread Brian Murray
Hello MichaƂ, or anyone else affected,

Accepted unity-lens-music into trusty-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-lens-
music/6.9.0+14.04.20151120.2-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1511347] Re: Feature request to enable systemtap on ubuntu 14.04.04.

2016-01-22 Thread Steve Langasek
Bug #1537125 has been filed separately showing that systemtap does not
work with the 14.04.4 kernel (Linux 4.2). Unfortunately, the tests
shown there weren't included as part of the test case for this SRU, but
should have been.

The systemtap test suite can't be run on a buildd because of its
intrusiveness. It should be included as an autopkgtest for this
package.

[Bug 1537211] [NEW] move to systemd has regressed /var/log/udev.log

2016-01-22 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

The udev package contains an upstart job, /etc/init/udevmonitor.conf,
whose purpose is to record boot-time information about devices in a log
file for future debugging. There is no equivalent systemd unit for this
job, so with the move to systemd, we now lose this useful debugging
information. I'm not aware of any other way under systemd to get a
replay of the boot-time kernel events. If there is one, that's fine,
but otherwise there should be a systemd unit equivalent here that can
give us this log.

[Bug 1523637] Re: grub-installer fails due to alternate disk partition error - 14.04.3

2016-01-22 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
I just installed thrice; installed 16.10 on mpath0 and then mpath1; and
finally installed 14.04 on mpath0. I was expecting to reproduce this bug
by seeing mpath1 being wiped after being detected as the PReP bootdev,
but it was not.

Could you please run '/usr/lib/grub-installer/prep-bootdev -l' on the
system just before grub-installer runs?

The major problem is that we shouldn't see /dev/sda picked at all, since
it's not the device that was selected for the install, and we see that
grub-installer already knows it should try to match a partition to
/dev/sdb in your logs:

Jan 14 22:16:41 main-menu[1409]: (process:72206):

Jan 14 22:16:41 main-menu[1409]: (process:72206): ]

There's still the issue of checking for the existence of the device node

It did not exist in 12.04. IIRC, the graphical artifacts symptomatic of
the issue for me appeared during an upgrade in Elementary OS Freya (based
on Ubuntu 14.04) from kernel 3.13 to 3.19 -- an upgrade intended to fix
another kernel bug! :P

I get no random suspend issues. The possibility exists for hardware
problems. I had to bypass my hardware wireless switch because it started
randomly turning the card on and off. Maybe something similar is happening
via a suspend parameter on your computer (did you try registering and
logging hardware keypresses? Those showed up with my wireless issue)

This bug seems fairly well confirmed as a software/kernel/driver issue,
though. Let me know if there's somewhere I can make noise and verify that
this is a problem.

[Bug 1537125] Re: ubuntu-14.04.04: fail to run systemtap test suites

2016-01-22 Thread Steve Langasek
> 9. apply systemtap fixes
> see BZ - https://bugzilla.linux.ibm.com/show_bug.cgi?id=131220

Please test with the actual systemtap package from trusty-proposed
(2.3-1ubuntu1.3), instead of manually patching the source.

> make check

This is not being run at build time because it is too intrusive on the
build environment, as described at . But it should have been part of the
autopkgtests for this package, and those autopkgtests should be run for
each new kernel. ("Should", but is not the case today.)

Please note that systemtap is not supported by Canonical except as the
systemtap-sdt-dev package which is used as a build-dependency for
various other supported packages. While it would be acceptable per the
Ubuntu archive policy to include a new upstream version of systemtap
into trusty-updates, the regression testing for such an update must
include tests of the reverse-dependencies (ust and php5).

So we intend to decline this SRU for the 14.04.4 release. I have also
marked bug #1511347 "verification-failed" based on the results of this
testing with the 14.04.4 kernel. If IBM believes it useful to proceed
with that previous SRU of systemtap, so that it's enabled for
compatibility with systems running the (Canonical-supported) 14.04.3
kernel, we can reverse that and still release the SRU.

[Bug 1522410] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-01-22 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From wschm...@us.ibm.com 2016-01-22 16:24 EDT---
Mike's patch for IEEE 128-bit floating point support has been added to the
branches/ibm/gcc-5-branch as r232747. It's a sizeable patch (about 6K lines).

This is the last patch that we're requesting that Canonical accept for
GCC. Thanks!
