switch to VT and then copy them onto a USB or mount some other hdd partition. I expect the kernel bug will still be there, but lightdm seems to handle software fallback better, so you probably won't notice without checking the logs. ubiquity displays the "Try Ubuntu greeter", I asked for those before I realised it was working. (In reply to Thomas Freitag from comment #5) > May You have a look at bug 43488 and bug 41104 if Your patch of bug 93299 > fixes them, too? And mark them as duplicate if so? No, my patch does not fix either of those. The files in both of those bugs directly use the glyph IDs to look up glyphs. Which is completely insane for a non-embedded font because glyph IDs are not in any way portable. To get them to work you could install the exact same Arial font. Not just a similar or compatible font like Liberation Sans, but Microsoft's own Arial font. Installing msttcorefonts should work. [Bug 1548864] Re: Ubuntu GNOME Xenial live image boots to tty1 and demands password
I don't know how I'd ever collect any logs from this current borkage because the only way you can get to the live DE is by rebooting and selecting the desired boot option from the advanced boot menu. Possibly if I were using a live USB with persistence the failed boot would be logged somewhere? I'm fried right now and just headed off to bed but I'll try Ubuntu itself tomorrow and see what happens with it. If it can't be reproduced on another flavor would it still be a kernel issue? This problem seems to be worsening. I had to see this problem only in Kubuntu in Beta 1. However, I will check the current Daily Build, I encountered this in all flavors (not Lubuntu). As a workaround for this problem, hit the key immediately after boot, and select the Language in the start-up menu of the CLI. As a result this issue does not encounter. [Bug 1548864] Re: Ubuntu GNOME Xenial live image boots to tty1 and demands password
I think i mis-read re comment #23, so you do see the Try Ubuntu screen (ubiquity-dm), so casper should have run (can you check if autologin options are enabled in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf. >From your previous journal logs it looks like gdm is spawned 3 times with the first 2 failing. Though I can't really see what is different between the first 2 and the last. Still would like to see the new logs (there has been a new Xorg and kernel since last time) DRI is broken in all three (Comment #13), which means hardware GL will always be broken. You should probably file a kernel bug for that as its likely hardware specific. Does OpenGL rendering work on an installed desktop system or when you boot from advanced menu? This isnt likely to be causing the issue, it should fallback to software rendering, although sometimes maybe it doesnt. Also gnome-shell can be quite laggy with software rendering on weaker hardware -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1548864 Title: Ubuntu GNOME Xenial live image boots to tty1 and demands password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1548864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1561320] [NEW] [FFe] sync docker-registry 2.3.0~ds1-1, needed by notary 0.1~ds1-1
Public bug reported: The notary package from Debian has yet to successfully build in Ubuntu. As part of cleaning up xenial-proposed before release, I synced notary 0.1~ds1-1 from unstable, which unlike the previous version should be compatible with the grpc version in Ubuntu. The new notary package has a versioned build dependency on golang- github-docker-distribution-dev, so the package is now dep-wait. This would be resolved by syncing the new upstream version of docker-registry from unstable (dropping the Ubuntu delta, which is no longer needed). docker-registry has no other reverse-dependencies in the archive, and is an unseeded package in universe, so I think this is safe to sync. But I'm requesting an FFe anyway, to get a second opinion, since this is a new upstream version. I don't intend to account for the individual changes in the package, so if the release team considers that to be necessary before granting this FFe, please reject the request instead and we'll sync it for 16.10. ** Affects: docker-registry (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1561320 Title: [FFe] sync docker-registry 2.3.0~ds1-1, needed by notary 0.1~ds1-1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/docker-registry/+bug/1561320/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1557894] Re: Strange usb device format and failure to boot on UEFI system
I have discovered the "strange" device format of the image is a hybrid iso, and gparted simply does not recognise this as meaningful. I was able to mount the iso as follows: sudo mount -o loop ./image.iso iso-contents/ ... and then the mounted directory allows me read-only access to the file system within the image. As I said above, the Asus EFI CSM BIOS detects and executes the hybridiso's bootloader. However, something goes wrong further into the process. Perhaps this is because the hybrid iso's file system also contains efi files and their presence confuses the BIOS. [Bug 1548864] Re: Ubuntu GNOME Xenial live image boots to tty1 and demands password
This is really 2 seperate issues First, ubiquity-dm is failing to load, due to some presumably racy GPU issue. I then guess casper has not run yet, so the autologin settings are not yet applied. Finally after some delay systemd decides to spawn gdm. I've added 12 dependencies for the go modules used by juju as depends in in the control file. This is a step back in the proper direction.
