[Bug 1562698] [NEW] Browser is rotated 90 degrees on VirtualBox with portrait-sized VM console

Dragging the console window so that it is no longer taller than it is
wide causes the browser to rotate to the correct orientation.

Also, I moved my Dash to the bottom, hence it not being on the left in
the attached screenshot. That's working as intended :)

If I purge vargrant and then install the upstream package (version
1:1.8.1 from https://www.vagrantup.com/downloads.html) I can install the
vagrant-libvirt plugin with no problem.  Switching back to the Ubuntu
version reproduces the original problem.

I think that it would be great to close BUG:

I would like to add, this is probably a problem with the Linux kernel as
I have seen this on other systems. I have observed it so far on: Ubuntu
Live USB, ArchLinux, and Gentoo. This problem seems to only occur when
it is being compiled with the X server running. The freezes tend to be a
solid color, purple on Ubuntu and gray on Gentoo with Cinnamon.

If the Live USB is made without persistence, while everything runs fine,
shutdown doesn't work. The screen blanks and a cursor flashes at the top
left corner of the screen. I can wait for a few minutes but still
nothing happens. I need to long-press the laptop's power button to shut
down.

However, I can confirm that using the same version of mkusb and iso to
create a persistent Live USB, the shutdown is normal.

You're right, I modified the instructions in the PPA page [1] to
configure the PPA and install the necessary packages to run Checkbox.

We'll try to fix this! We usually don't run into this kind of issues
because we use Checkbox for hardware certification, which means we

install a fresher or updated version of Ubuntu).

checkbox-converged does not provide a checkbox-gui tool, so if you ran 
checkbox-gui, it ran the same one as you previously used.
Instead, just launch the dash (by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard) 
and search for “Checkbox Converged”. You should be able to launch it from there.

If you want to run it from the command line, you can run the following
command:

qmlscene --settings=/usr/share/checkbox-converged/settings.json $@
/usr/share/checkbox-converged/checkbox-touch.qml

It has the "event.direction" there, but in the API document:

It does not have the "direction" property defined there. Is this a bug?
Shall it be "event.status" instead?

logging out sometimes will work, but not necessarily. agree that

However, 1333630 is incorrectly marked as fix released, and after a year
of occationally attempting to get someone to notice that 1333630 is not
fixed, I'm giving up and opening a new bug in hope of someone actually
noticing.

Basically, the version of screen in the 14.04 "long term support"
release can occasionally segfault, taking all contained shell sessions
down with it. This is extremely annoying if you use screen extensively,
and having to compile screen from source on every ubuntu install I use
is ridiculous.

The underlying issue was a bug in  GNU screen:
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?35757

This was fixed fully one year ago. However, the version of screen that's
distributed as part of ubuntu is apparently **10** years old (Screen
version 4.01.00devel (GNU) 2-May-06).

Since 14.04 is ostensibly still supported, can someone please actually
support it, and upgrade the version of screen to something from the last
year?

There is screen 4.2.1 in trusty/backports, but 1) this bug was not fixed
until 4.3.0, and 2) this is a core shell util, I shouldn't have to go
hunting for a additional repository to get a functional version of the
GNU tools that's usually installed by default.

Even a very basic test of this extension fails.  First, I create some
text, then select it, convert to paths, ungroup.  Then I create from 1 2
3 4 a box with the pencil or pen tool, being sure that I continue the
line all the way until I have a closed box.  Then convert to paths.
Then I select all the text paths, then the box path, and run the
Extension>Modify Path>Perspective tool, which either causes the box to
only disappear, or only the first letter of the text to disappear.  The
text is not mapped to the box.  If fails reliably.  It does not work at
all.

I've used this extension before, and had it work.  I've checked my steps
and this is how the Perspective extension is supposed to be used.

the man page says under examples the exact command above.. Turns out none of 
the digests appear to be available.
according to the manpage:
 md5digest   The MD5 message digest of the file.

 sha1digest  The FIPS 160-1 (“SHA-1”) message digest of the file.

 sha256digest
 The FIPS 180-2 (“SHA-256”) message digest of the file.

 ripemd160digest
 The RIPEMD160 message digest of the file.


all of them give an error. 
the keyword cksum works!

I removed the nvidia 304.131 driver from my installed system. After
rebooting I'm prompted for a new bug directly at log in. It seems to
affect xorg-server, but the free desktop graphics driver (nouveau) seems
to work with my nvidia Geforce GT 430 card.

I tried mkusb twice (making persistent live drives) and the zenity
windows worked without any glitch. It is too early to be sure, but it
indicates that there are problems with the nvidia graphics. I hope it
will be fixed before 16.04 LTS will be released.

The battery percentage drops from 10% to 1% and probably less in about a 
minute, even with phone locked and inactive.
This has happened twice in a row already, and probably will systematically.
Battery warning means I need to plug in instantly to avoid shutdown.
There seems to be no way to calibrate battery measurements, or set a different 
warning level.
I have no idea where to get log history for battery level, but I'll do it if 
someone gives me directions.

I installed mkusb into a clean current Lubuntu Xenial i386 live system.
It seems to work well - also the zenity windows. The differences
compared my installed system are

- Live versus Installed
- free versus nvidia proprietary driver (version 304.131)
- clean versus contains several packages and settings (also from older daily 
files)

I suspect that webkit and the nvidia proprietary driver have problems to
cooperate, but I am far from sure.

  * d/p/DW_TAG_mutable_type: fix FTBFS due to newer elfutils
(LP: #1378841).
Fixed in Debian.
