[Bug 1569690] [NEW] prompt to remove media and press enter doesn't appear
Public bug reported: Testing iso: Install (manual partitioning) in Xubuntu Desktop i386 in Xenial Daily. xubuntu/daily-live/20160412/xenial-desktop-i386.iso Install goes smoothly, but at the end, there was no prompt to remove the installation media (the DVD). The drive opened, so something triggered the expected hardware action. The installation finished with a full- screen TTY showing the last couple of lines from the initial bootup (GUI was shut down). Computer is Lenovo Thinkpad T510. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1569690 Title: prompt to remove media and press enter doesn't appear To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1569690/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1559933] Re: [Grub] There are messy codes on displaying Chinese characters in grub after install xenial-desktop_0320.
I'm re-uploading my screenshot in my duplicated report. As you can see, in recent versions of Grub, all recovery and old kernel entries reside in "高级选项" (Chinese for "advanced options"). In 29 version from wily, the four characters are displayed fine; while in 36 version from xenial, only "级" is shown correctly and the other three are boxed question marks, meaning the character cannot be displayed by the font. I didn't test 29 font with 36 version, but the font does become smaller, and this is nonetheless a regression. BTW, this is the first screen most Chinese users will see when they boot Ubuntu (not just Kylin, all Ubuntu variants). ** Attachment added: "File sizes and comparison between versions" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntukylin/+bug/1559933/+attachment/4635015/+files/screen.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1559933 Title: [Grub] There are messy codes on displaying Chinese characters in grub after install xenial-desktop_0320. [Bug 1567219]
Thank you for the patches and for addressing my comments. Your work is really appreciated. Overall it looks in a good shape now. Please fold all the patches into one, so it's better maintainable. I have only the following remaining comments: +++ configure.ac 1) Please use autoconf macros AC_CHECK_TYPE/AC_CHECK_TYPES for checking Elf{32,64}_Chdr typedefs. See for example: https://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/autoconf-2.69/html_node/Generic-Types.html#Generic-Types +++ coregrind/m_debuginfo/image.c 2) When including "tinfl.c", do we want to define "TINFL_HEADER_FILE_ONLY"? 3) typo: + // Virtual size of the image = real size + size of uncopressed data uncopressed => uncompressed 4) typo: + // Number of compressed slices are used delete 'are' 5) CEnt.data has now non-fixed size. Why CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE is still used in various places around image.c; for example in alloc_CEnt() and realloc_CEnt()? 6) In function find_cslc(), please use {} braces for better readability and put 'return' statement to its own line. You can declare 'i' inside the for loop as we use C99. 7) In function find_cslc(), use proper type 'UInt' instead of 'int', to match that of 'cslc_used'. 8) Width of all lines is 80 characters max - occurrences in alloc_CEnt(), realloc_CEnt(), get_slowcase(), ML_(img_mark_compressed_part)(). 9) Should be two lines, really: + if (len > ce->size) len = ce->size; 10) typo: + // get copressed data 11) should be on separate lines: + if ((cslc != NULL) && (cslc->szD > CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE)) size = cslc->szD; 12) Please be explicit: + vg_assert(img); => vg_assert(img != NULL); +++ coregrind/m_debuginfo/priv_image.h 13) Make it a proper sentence: +/* Real size of the image */ => +/* Real size of the image. */ 14) Make it a proper sentence: + Returns (virtual) position in image from which decompressed data can be read */ => Returns (virtual) position in image from which decompressed data can be read. */ 15) Lines too long (exceed 80 chars): Returns (virtual) position in image from which decompressed data can be read */ DiOffT ML_(img_mark_compressed_part)(DiImage* img, DiOffT offset, SizeT szC, SizeT szD); +++ coregrind/m_debuginfo/readelf.c 16) Magic '12' is used multiple times, please make it a #define or a constant. +} else if (h->sh_size > 12) { 17) [multiple times] The exclamation mark is really unnecessary here, the whole message you get is scary per se (check other occurrences of ML_(symerr)() in this module). + ML_(symerr)(di, True, " Unknown compression type!"); \ +++ memcheck/tests/Makefile.am 18) Use @FLAG_W_NO_UNINITIALIZED@ (see configure.ac) instead of plain -Wno-uninitialized. +++ memcheck/tests/cdebug.c 19) A compiler could see that the program always returns 0 and might optimize 'if (x)' out. Perhaps you can return different values? 20) I don't see any coregrind/Makefile changes to build m_debuginfo/tinfl.c? +++ coregrind/m_debuginfo/tinfl.c 21) What kind of license your modifications fall under? tinfl.c seems to be under "UNLICENSE" whereas the rest of Valgrind is under GPLv2+. 22) We should use proper Valgrind types, not standard C ones here: typedef unsigned char mz_uint8; typedef signed short mz_int16; typedef unsigned short mz_uint16; typedef unsigned int mz_uint32; typedef unsigned int mz_uint; typedef unsigned long long mz_uint64; I was able to get it built on amd64/Solaris and regression testing went fine. [Bug 1568829] Re: nm-applet icon not showing
The errors there look like the issue would be about NetworkManager not running. Are you sure it is started at the time? You wouldn't then have to restart nm-applet -- nm-applet does not show if it can't talk to NM. Otherwise, I suppose there may be issues with policykit or some other authentication system: (nm-applet:6250): nm-applet-WARNING **: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.AgentManager.PermissionDenied: Unable to determine request sender and UID. Neither PolicyKit or polkit-gnome have changed in a while. Could you please stop NetworkManager and restart it with debug logs? Steps below. sudo systemctl stop NetworkManager sudo /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --debug > ~/nm-debug.log Then attach nm-debug.log; I expect it will show some hint as to the authentication issue somewhere near the top of the log. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568829 Title: nm-applet icon not showing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/1568829/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1569324] Re: Update Manager shouldn't suggest 14.04 -> 15.10 unsupported upgrade path
** Description changed: As far as I can see Ubuntu only supports 2 release upgrade paths[1]: - 1. ${release} upgrade to ${next-release} (e.g. for 14.04 -> 15.10, you'll have to 14.04 -> 14.10 -> 15.04 -> 15.10, 3 upgrades in a row) - 2. ${lts-release} upgrade to ${next-lts-release} (e.g. for 12.04 -> 14.04, you can do a direct upgrade) + 1. ${release} upgrade to ${next-release} (e.g. for 14.04 -> 15.10, you'll have to 14.04 -> 14.10 -> 15.04 -> 15.10, 3 upgrades in a row) + 2. ${lts-release} upgrade to ${next-lts-release} (e.g. for 12.04 -> 14.04, you can do a direct upgrade) However currently on a ubuntu 14.04 if user chooses to "show any new Ubuntu versions" Update Manager(and do-release-upgrade) will suggest to directly upgrade to Ubuntu 15.10, this upgrade path has been verified[2] to cause entire system hang during the upgrade process and even if you - do a hard reboot you'll end in a console-only 15.10 environment. + do a hard reboot you'll end in a console-only 15.10 environment(UPDATE: + still fixable with a `# dpkg --configure -a` under console). [Bug 1569324] Re: Update Manager shouldn't suggest 14.04 -> 15.10 unsupported upgrade path
Hi Brian, I believe that the new upgrade behaviour/practice should also be documented/updated in the [General Upgrade Information section](https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes) in the Ubuntu Wiki? > To avoid damaging your running system, upgrading should only be done from one > release > to the next release (e.g. Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 12.10) or from one LTS > release to the > next (e.g. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) Also I would like to re-confirm that the 14.04 -> 15.10 skip-release upgrade isn't (well, in best effort) considered to have migration issues(e.g. the Upstart -> Systemd conversion happens between 15.04 -> 15.10)? Like I previously mentioned above I did experience problems while attempting to perform the upgrade on a complete clean install[1].
