[Bug 1575655] Re: the network indicator shows the wrong status

2016-05-10 Thread Alex Kon
The initial state of the indicator after login is correct BUT if I for
example reconnect my USB adapter, the wifi state goes out of sync (i.e.
the wifi would reconnect but the new 'connected' state is not reflected
in the indicator (i.e. wifi list not shown and wifi icon does not
appear)).

This is on a fresh 16.04 installation using a USB Wifi Adapter.

[Bug 1580445] [NEW] Minimal-install boot "animation" can lead to brown-colored login prompt

2016-05-10 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Public bug reported:

I am seeing this on a Xenial minimal install with plymouth
0.9.2-3ubuntu13 (as well as 0.9.2-3ubuntu13.1).

After the text-mode boot logo ("Ubuntu 16.04" with the four dots) is
shown on start-up, the text-mode tty1 login prompt is sometimes printed
in brown/orange text instead of the standard white/gray color.

If I log in at that prompt, the terminal session is in all brown text.
tty2 et al. are not affected.

Whether the login prompt turns out brown or white appears to be by luck
of the draw. It probably has to do with the point at which the four-dot
"color flipping" ends when the login prompt is ready.

[Bug 1553563] Re: bconsole to Bacula Director fails with authorization problem message

2016-05-10 Thread Hiroaki Hashi
Configurations using these handler, the default value is not correct.(Group A)
store_alist_res
store_bit
store_bool
store_dir
store_int32
store_pint32
store_res
store_size64
store_str
store_time

However , Another configuration using following handlers has correct default
value.(Group B)
store_addresses
store_addresses_address
store_addresses_port
store_alist_str
store_label
store_name
store_password
store_speed
store_strname

What's different?
Group A is referenced from dird.c and dird_conf.c.
Group B is referenced from only dird_conf.c.
In dird.c, symbol address is written in the .text segment.
In dird_conf.c, symbol addres is written in the .data segment.

What's problem?
In "/usr/sbin/bacula-dir", Group A are resolved to PLT stub code's address.
In "libbaccfg.so", these address are resolved to true function address.
So, symbol address is different between "bacula-dir" and "libbaccfg.so".

Why some configuration has correct default value?
Group B are placed on relocation table, it will be resolved to true function
address at time of dynamic link.
So, these symbol address is same in "bacula-dir" and "libbaccfg.so".

2016-05-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a

packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit

[Bug 1580434] Re: kernel 4.2.0-36 causes unity to break on 15.10

2016-05-10 Thread Bindul Bhowmik
Forgot to mention; as part of the different steps to resolve the
problem, I did upgrade to 16.04 on a snapshot of the same VM; and the
same problem re-occurred after a kernel upgrade (don't remember the
kernel versions there).

[Bug 1580434] [NEW] kernel 4.2.0-36 causes unity to break on 15.10

2016-05-10 Thread Bindul Bhowmik
Public bug reported:

I run Ubuntu desktop 15.10 in a Oracle VirtualBox VM. After updating the kernel
to 4.2.0-36 Unity stopped working (after the restart). The symptoms were:
- The screen would not use the entire real estate in either the full screen or
the windowed mode (of the VM)
- On entering login information, only the desktop background would display
without dash/launcher, files on desktop or any menu or keyboard action.
- If you started / restarted unity from a shell (Ctrl + Shift + F1 or from a
SSH session), the desktop files and mouse/keyboard actions would work, but
still no dash/launcher.

The problems went away after falling back to kernel 4.2.0-35.

If additional information is required, please let me know I will try my
best to get that.

[Bug 170049] Re: Inverted ruler co-ordinate system

2016-05-10 Thread yharrow
@vaifrax

While I do understand your approach as a programmer. From a design
perspective (particularly web-design in which the bottom is not always
clearly defined) it's often easier to think of coordinates as
originating from the top left corner. Creating web design mock-ups in
inkscape without the ability to see this kind of coordinate display is
rather inconvenient.

The feature being requested here is to at least offer a *visual option*
for users to observe the coordinate system as starting at the top left.
Nothing needs to change in the background. Plugins can still use the old
coordinate system and plugin developers can view the coordinate system
however they want.

[Bug 1580431] [NEW] FTBFS with ld --as-needed

2016-05-10 Thread Logan Rosen
Public bug reported:

dosfstools 4.0-1 (and soon 4.0-2) FTBFS in Ubuntu due to our use of ld

require them when being linked.

Made a patch that I later realized is also duplicated in a pull request

[Bug 1118903] Re: [enhancement] Mir lacks a software rendering backend

Mode setting might not be as stuck as I thought.

If LLVMpipe can be directed to render to an arbitrary bitmap then we
could simply write a Mir graphics driver for fbdev and bind LLVMpipe to
it.

suggests it might be a signal/connection incompatibility in the Idek

candidates for explaining poor performance, especially if Mesa is
falling back to software rendering for them.

Unfortunately we're covering multiple issues here. This bug should be
about the dash crashing continuously. We can deal with performance
elsewhere...

2016-05-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
P.S. In my experience, confusing GL and GLES is something Mesa actually
does well. It provides a single API for both of them and even lets you
accidentally use GL features in GLES that should not exist.

[Bug 1578022] Re: dmidecode fails to output smibios 3.0 info

2016-05-10 Thread jeffrey leung
Hi Colin,

We ran into this at Cisco during 16.04 certification, Samantha asked me
to collect the data you requested to see if we can be of any help.

kernel versions:
Ubuntu 16.04: 4.4.0-21-generic
RHEL 7.2: 3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64

I've attached dmi_cisco.rar which will have a screenshot with dmidecode
output same as Samantha's above, along with the /sys/firmware
directories for Ubuntu 16.04 and a fresh install of RHEL 7.2. I executed
as root and was able to poke around the directories, but if any issues
with the data I can try to recollect.

Thanks,
Jeff

[Bug 1286596] Re: mediascanner-service-2.0 crashed with SIGABRT in __gnu_cxx::__verbose_terminate_handler()

2016-05-10 Thread James Henstridge
If you have discovered a problem with mediascanner2, please file a new
bug report rather than adding comments to closed bugs. You are almost
certainly seeing a different problem in newer releases.

This 2014 bug report was caused by the code throwing an exception when
it could no longer create new inotify watches. That was corrected back
then:

https://code.launchpad.net/~jpakkane/mediascanner2/gracefulwatch/+merge/210255

So this particular bug is not still present in yakkety. You have a
different bug.

[Bug 1580195] Re: High CPU load on Payment screen

2016-05-10 Thread Selene Scriven
I bisected this and it turned out to be much older than I expected.
Looks like it happened between 2015-09 and 2015-11, though beyond that
I'm not sure. We don't have any rc-proposed images old enough for a
more fine-grained inspection.

Problem exists in:
* krillin rc-proposed 329 (pay-service 15.10+15.04.20160413-0ubuntu1)
* krillin rc-proposed 315 (pay-service 15.10+15.04.20160324.1-0ubuntu1).
* arale rc-proposed 306 (pay-service 15.10+15.04.20160324.1-0ubuntu1).
* arale rc-proposed 262 (pay-service 15.10+15.04.20160114-0ubuntu1) (oldest
rc-prop image on our servers).
* krillin rc 39 (OTA 8.5) (pay-service 2.0.0+15.04.20151103-0ubuntu1)
* krillin stable 27 (OTA 8) (pay-service 2.0.0+15.04.20151103-0ubuntu1)

I don't see the issue in:
* krillin stable 26 (OTA 7) (pay-service 2.0.0+15.04.20150914-0ubuntu1)
* krillin stable 24 (OTA 5) (pay-service 2.0.0+15.04.20150706-0ubuntu1)

BTW, this is really easy to check for. Flash an image, go to the app
store, tap a paid app (I've been using "Cut the Rope" since it's on the
front page today), tap the $2.99 button. Watch 'top' in a shell at the
same time, to see if pay-service jumps up to 99% CPU. No need to even
try to log in; it's sufficient to merely bring up the login UI.

which restores WiFi powersave by default.

[Bug 1576411] Re: UTF-8 is not very well supported inside snaps

2016-05-10 Thread Kyle Fazzari
> how would a snap access the desktop locales ?

I talked to mvo about this today. It sounds like there are two ways to
deal with this: either bind-mount the desktop locales into the ubuntu-
core snap, or bound-mound them into /classic in the ubuntu-core snap and
redirect things accordingly. I guess both of these solutions would be
done by the launcher.

Note that the same type of thing would need to be done for fonts etc.

[Bug 1579978] Re: upgrade to 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu1 fails on ubuntu server

2016-05-10 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Hi Robie,

I had the same problem occur this morning on a couple of server installs
running systemd-sysv, so I'm thinking it might not be an upstart-
specific issue. I rebooted one of the servers and was then able to
upgrade the package successfully. I haven't yet rebooted the other
server. Both had a .crash file in /var/crash and I submitted one of
them as bug 1580401. I couldn't work out how to submit the .crash file
to an existing bug report.

[Bug 1579978] Re: upgrade to 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu1 fails on ubuntu server

2016-05-10 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I upgraded from Vivid => Wily => Xenial. I had switched back to
upstart-sysv on Vivid but I noticed that the upgrade software reinstalls
the ubuntu-standard package (and therefore systemd-sysv) on upgrade to a
new release, so I had re-installed upstart-sysv after each upgrade.

[Bug 1580394] [NEW] Analog Loopback Static in Headphones while on Dell Latitude 3340 Battery Power

2016-05-10 Thread spm2011
Public bug reported:

I have noticed that when I am on battery power on a Dell Latitude 3340
laptop with headphones plugged in , and there is no audio playing on the
computer, there is a consistent static sound that comes through the
headphones at a constant volume that is not affected by changing the
volume level. I think it may be picking up some kind of analog loopback
signal because keyboard presses and disk activity seem to influence the
noise. When I plug the power cable into the laptop , the static
immediately goes away.

I reported this earlier to the upstream Linux Kernel bug tracker, but it
seems to be fixed in any distro running a 4.4 kernel or greater that I
have tested , Except for Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS 64-bit. This make me
think it is not a kernel level issue and is found somewhere either in
the audio settings on Ubuntu MATE or a pulseaudio bug. I cannot
reproduce it on any other 16.04 distro version, but it also affects all
the 14.04.4 distros as well.

Running amixer -c 1 set "Loopback Mixing" "Disabled" does not prevent
the static.

The BIOS Firmware version is up to date.

Thanks Scott. Could you also attach the OpenVPN configs since they
apparently don't match the gist [1].

[Bug 1580268] Re: Produce mplayer2 transitional package for upgrades

2016-05-10 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Adam, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mplayer into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mplayer/2:1.2.1-1ubuntu1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1575429] Re: Gnome Software doesn't allow non-free software

2016-05-10 Thread Ty Young
I'm not sure which update you'are talking about.

Looks like this particular bug has been fixed as I can now install the
Vivaldi browser via gnome-software, however it doesn't have a launch
button after install? Not sure what's up with that.

If your talking about not being able to find non-free software, well I
can find Steam(wasn't able to before) but Ubuntu restricted access is
nowhere to be found.

[Bug 1557026] Re: Network Manager sets powersave off by default in xenial

2016-05-10 Thread Tony Espy
Note, it looks like the problem is that the original patch fixes up the
libnm-util version of nm-settings-wireless.c which has been deprecated.
Instead the libnm-core version of nm-settings-wireless.c needs to be
updated. I'm testing this now for a touch build and will report back
here if it works.

Tested with nvidia-364 from the ppa:graphics-driver/ppa with gnome 3.18 and
ubuntu 16 and nvidia-prime with nvidia selected as gpu. It logged in fine,
didn't test further.

[Bug 1580341] Re: fonts-roboto (1:4.3-3ubuntu1.2) missing the Medium and Black fonts

2016-05-10 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
It's true, it was in connection with the fix of bug #1441210, and in
line with what upstream (Debian) did.

However, as from Ubuntu 16.04 fonts-roboto lives in its own source package:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-roboto

Medium and Black are back there, as can be seen here:
https://packages.debian.org/sid/all/fonts-roboto-hinted/filelist

If you are not on 16.04 yet, you may want to download the fonts-roboto
and fonts-roboto-hinted packages and install them manually.

So, this is "fixed" in 16.04. We won't backport the resurrection of
those weights.

[Bug 1580388] [NEW] unetbootin application window shows nothing

2016-05-10 Thread Mahmoud
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu Release: Xubuntu 16.04 LTS

2) Version of package: installed from ppa:gezakovacs/ppa

3) Expected to happen: I expected the application to start up and work.

4) What happened instead: The attached file is a screenshot of what
happened. I don't really know how to explain it in technical terms, but
nothing loaded. It just stayed like this. At first the spinning wheel
icon appeared next to the mouse (indicating that it was loading), but
then it just stopped.

The exact procedure of what I did is:
I click on the unetbootin icon in order to start it, it prompts me to enter my
password, and and all I get is this blank screen.

I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application and I
have installed it from the gezakovacs ppa and the ubuntu repository, but
it still just shows nothing.

2016-05-10 Thread Stephen Gutknecht
I found a possible bug report that may help us. It specifically
identifies problems with Kernel 4.2 and hard system freeze.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93214

Specifically note comment #11 on that bug report: "I added
"intel_idle.max_cstate=1" to the cmdline in hrub [grub] running kernel
4.4.0-rc6 and got a system freeze after 3 days. Very stable under 4.1.12
for months without any parameters."

So, they don't have crashes with 4.1... but like us, have problems with
newer.

[Bug 1577482] Re: PHPMyAdmin requires mbstring

2016-05-10 Thread Nish Aravamudan
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * PHPMyAdmin reports run-time errors due to missing functionality from
+ php-xml and php-mbstring, which in prior versions of PHP were packaged
+ with the core.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Install phpmyadmin 4.5.4.1-2ubuntu1 and attempt to use the provided
+ web interface, it will fail to load.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The likelihood of regression is very low, as no code change is being
+ included. Instead, we are simply expressing correctly a run-time
+ dependency of the phpmyadmin source.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * We have sync'ed the package in Yakkety and a similar change has been made
in the version there.
+
When trying to use PHPMyAdmin without the mbstring extension installed, I get
a fatal error on the main page:
"The mbstring extension is missing. Please check your PHP configuration."

This is coming from line 95 in /usr/share/phpmyadmin/libraries/common.inc.php:
  /**
- * Warning about mbstring.
- */
+  * Warning about mbstring.
+  */
  if (! function_exists('mb_detect_encoding')) {
- PMA_warnMissingExtension('mbstring', $fatal = true);
+ PMA_warnMissingExtension('mbstring', $fatal = true);
  }

This is an unconditional check, so this should be a Depends.

[Bug 1579917] Re: Skylake processor never reaches low power states on X1 Carbon gen 4 with NVMe drive

2016-05-10 Thread Colin Ian King
Dave, this is interesting to read:

http://www.mouser.com/pdfdocs/4thgencorefamilydesktopvol1datasheet.pdf

Section 4.2.5, pages 54 through to 58. See the C2 package state, it
maybe that the package is not able to transition to C3 because of those
constraints.
