2016-05-14 Thread Igor Kenbright

have Ubuntu as my prior and only one operating system. The problem is
that after installation is done and computer restart, Ubuntu takes
forever to boot or load and it never finishes the process, making it
impossible to run. Please I need your help. What should I do?

[Bug 1581912] [NEW] Specific NVIDIA driver settings in xorg.conf will cause issues with Unity Panel

2016-05-14 Thread V
Public bug reported:

Specific NVIDIA driver settings in xorg.conf will cause issues with Unity
Panel.
Windows can "tuck" under the panel. IE: Maximizing the Window, and then
clicking un-maximize would cause windows to tuck under the top title bar.
It is also possible to manually move the window under the top panel.

Including xorg.conf and screenshot. Cant replicate the issue w/o

[Bug 1581910] [NEW] Decreasing mouse speed does not disable total mouse acceleration

2016-05-14 Thread V

[Bug 1574347] Re: [SRU]network-manager

2016-05-14 Thread MBWD
I can confirm that running an Intel 7260, after upgrading the suggested
packaged to 1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.1, and my problem persists:

when I am connected to a wifi AP (AP1) and I try to switch to another AP
(AP2), the wifi connection dies -- with no list of accessible APs -- and
it gives the little right/left arrows that indicate you have no ethernet
connection.

I have to admit, the OPs description of the problem is not clear to me,
so I am not sure if this is the same bug or a different one.

In all events, for the bug I think this is (can't change wifi networks),
the suggested solutions (i.e., install the latest version of network-
manager and two others) do NOT solve it.

[Bug 1581906] [NEW] Xubuntu 14 may daily build install fails.

2016-05-14 Thread William Geiger
Public bug reported:

Fresh Install on new system, daily build from usb stick. first ubi-
console-setup error bug #157750 hit continue and then install fails with
message about can not set up apt to install additional software from the
CD.

I started the install by booting into Xubuntu from the USB and then
clicking on install icon on the desktop. The reason I did this is the
install seemed to be hanging and not displaying the splash screen when
selecting "Install Xubuntu" from the initial menu.

I am going to redo my USB stick and try again and see what happens, I
will report back one way or the other.

Don't know if this matters but I used UNbootin on a Xubuntu 16.10

[Bug 1581902] [NEW] Network manager applet malfunctioning

2016-05-14 Thread Christopher Kosciuk
Public bug reported:

After reboot and login, the network manager applet will sometimes show
the ethernet connection icon when I'm actually connected to wifi (and I
even have the ethernet port disabled in bios). Other times it will
indicate that I'm not connected at all, and won't display any available
wifi networks, when in fact I am connected. Restarting network manager
corrects this.

[Bug 1581901] [NEW] Setting 'dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/lockdown/disable-log-out true' replaces Restart and Shut Down with Lock and Log Out

2016-05-14 Thread unflavored
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04, unity 7.4.0+16.04.20160415-0ubuntu1

Doing 'dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/lockdown/disable-log-out true'
should only remove the Log Out option from the top-right menu.

In addition, after a reboot, it replaces the Restart and Shut Down
options with Lock and Log Out, respectively. Clicking on Shut Down
should offer Restart and Shut Down but it no longer does. But it does
allow Log Out, which is what /org/gnome/desktop/lockdown/disable-log-out
is supposed to disallow.

This was previously reported as bug #1176476 in unity-tweak-tool.

[Bug 1581314] Re: gparted crashes when copying ntfs partition

2016-05-14 Thread Curtis Gedak
Would you be able to provide the output from the following three
commands?

  sudo fdisk -l -u

where one of the options is a lower case "L" and not the number one.

sudo parted /path-to-your-device unit s print

where /path-to-your-device is something like /dev/sda.

  sudo blkid

[Bug 1581899] [NEW] Cant move workspace diagonaly to top left

2016-05-14 Thread Jacob
Public bug reported:

When using arrow keys in workspace switcher, cannot use up and left
arrow keys simultaneously to move diagonally to top left workspace
window from the bottom right workspace. Moving diagonally does work when
moving from bottom left workspace to top right for example, and all
other combinations diagonally seem to work fine, just cannot move from
bottom right to top left directly.

[Bug 1581897] [NEW] kcm_kscreen.desktop file does not exist

2016-05-14 Thread Scott Borisch
Public bug reported:

Launching "Display Configuration" (aka kscreen) on Kubuntu 16.04 64-bit
LTS results in error message:

"Unable to run the command specified. The file or folder
/usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.icon/contents/ui/kcm_kscreen.desktop"
does not exist."

I see the same problem on 2 different brand new Kubuntu 16.04
installations (one native, one on a VirtualBox VM).

I am not sure of the kscreen version.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch "Display Configuration"
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Dialog box reads: "Unable to run the command specified. The file or folder
/usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.icon/contents/ui/kcm_kscreen.desktop"
 does not exist."

Expected Results:
"Display Configuration" (aka kscreen) launches.

[Bug 1581896] [NEW] dbus-runner returns with an error if the service is already running

2016-05-14 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Bamf dbus runner script in Ubuntu 16.04 fails with an error if the service is
already running.

[Test case]
In a terminal, when an unity session is running launch:
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/bamf/bamfdaemon-dbus-runner && echo Good || echo
Not Good

It returns (in bugged system)
initctl: Job già in esecuzione: bamfdaemon
Not Good

It should instead return:
initctl: Job già in esecuzione: bamfdaemon
Good

[Regression Potential]

Nothing known.

correct procedure is to nominate and add a bug task for a release.

[Bug 1552504] Re: clicking noise on acer 131t-c1yf

2016-05-14 Thread bhikkhu subhuti
Switched to Mate 16.04 since the clicking noise is present in Lubuntu after
installing pulseaudio for Skype to run.
The Noise is only in the left speaker.
Mute fixes it but not acceptable as a fix.
Changing the balance to the right speaker DOES NOT FIX THIS (strange).
Disabling the microphone does not fix this either.

and displays the "What should FireFox do with this file" dialog and
Apache logs nothing further.

On my phone this behavior is the same whether I press "Download" or
"Choose an application" from the Download dialog. Also if I long press
the link and choose "Save link" the download fails also.

When I tried to download a file from a commercial site I have to log
into, the download succeeded. I suspect the difference is the commercial
site probably uses something beside "AuthType Basic".

I'm happy to provide any logs or to do more testing.

Thanks

[Bug 1573052] Re: [packaging] gnome-software provides a broken symlink of /usr/lib/gs-plugins-9/libgs_plugin_xdg_app_reviews.so on Ubuntu 16.04

2016-05-14 Thread Matthias Klumpp
This thing is a red herring - whatever issue you are experiencing, it
doesn't have anything to do with the broken symlink. If you want to
silence this message, you could just delete the symlink, if you want.
Otherwise, simply ignore it.

[Bug 1581835] Re: Native Look and Feel for Swing does not work

2016-05-14 Thread Tiago Stürmer Daitx
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The GTK L has a few known issues and is not enabled by default. Please
see bug #183139.

You might try adding those properties to either
/etc/java-7-openjdk/swing.properties
/etc/java-8-openjdk/swing.properties, one per line without the "-D", as
in:

awt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on
swing.aatext=true
swing.defaultlaf=com.sun.java.swing.plaf.gtk.GTKLookAndFeel
swing.crossplatformlaf=com.sun.java.swing.plaf.gtk.GTKLookAndFeel

Be aware that the application you are trying to run might override those
settings on its own, if so that would require you to edit the
application configuration files.

I've installed the following Mainline PPA kernel on today's Ubuntu MATE

All screen flicker is gone. Just running Ubuntu MATE 16.10, without this
kernel upgrade, the flicker was still present.

[Bug 1581890] [NEW] Boot registers protocol family 40, which is not in configs

2016-05-14 Thread Blair Houghton
Public bug reported:

I noticed this line in the system log after boot:
"May 14 14:41:08 ubuntu kernel: [8.677878] NET: Registered protocol family
40"
I tried to find out what protocol that was, and eventually determined that the
IANA thinks it's the IL protocol, which is deprecated and unusual in any case.
Protocol number 40 doesn't appear in the expected config or alias files (for
modprobe in /etc or /etc/modprobe.d/). Enabling a dead protocol without being
told seems to be a thing an OS shouldn't be doing.

More context for the log line is below:
...

property ToolsCoreService::tcs-app-ctx after class was initialised

[Bug 1581888] [NEW] Open command toggles between default paths

2016-05-14 Thread Blair Houghton
Public bug reported:

Start gnome-system-log. Click on the gear button and select Open. The
Open Log dialog opens, showing contents at default path /var/log.
Dismiss that dialog. Again click the gear button and select Open. The
same dialog opens, but the path is now ~. Closing and opening the dialog
repeatedly toggles between the same two paths.

The behavior changes after the dialog is used to browse to a different
directory and successfully open a file (but not after simply opening a
file in the default directory). Then it remembers the last path as the
default between invocations of gnome-system-log, as expected.

[Bug 1510344] Re: Keyboard Backlight Turns on at boot

2016-05-14 Thread Treviño
Mario, as for the lock/idle problem is a different issue.

Things depend also on the hardware and how the kernel supports the notification
of the kbd backlight changes, but if all is well supported this change should
help:
https://code.launchpad.net/~3v1n0/unity-settings-daemon/keep-cached-kbd-backlight-updated/+merge/294662

It would be cool if you can try unity-settings-daemon with that patch.

Also, please provide logs when running
 gdbus monitor --system --dest org.freedesktop.UPower

And:
  udevadm monitor

While you use the keybindings to change the keyboard backlight and
during a lock/idle/suspend cycle.

RE: [Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space

2016-05-14 Thread David Gerstmann
Agreed. This is such a large omission that I am tempted to believe it is
on purpose. There are workarounds to temporarily fix the problem, but
they are so complicated that a novice, such as myself, must employ great
effort to find the temporary fixes. This seems to be a very bad way to
promote an operating system. I'm curious if this problem will be fixed
in the next long term supported version.

when there isn't enough free space
REALLY disappointed in Canonical and Ubuntu. Why isn't a bug like this
the very top priority of Canonical's development team and the open
source community? The bug potentially affects all users and prevents
those users from upgrading the kernel, even to plug security holes.
Aren't security and kernel problems that affect all users of concern to
anyone with the power and skills to fix them?

I'm now stuck with having to manually remove kernel files (seriously?)
on an expensive laptop with a factory installed Ubuntu 14.04 OS. Even
`autoremove` fails for me because gzip has no room to extract the files
that it wants to delete? And of course the bug is silently ignored by
appreport and consequently Ubuntu and Canonical. Shame on you...

[Bug 1574211] Re: The "nolapic" boot option causes a kernel panic

2016-05-14 Thread levien
I tested the mainline kernel 4.6.0-040600rc7, and the problem does not
occur with this version. I also tested 4.4.10-040410, in which the
problem did occur. It seems that the problem is indeed fixed in the
upstream 4.6 kernel series, but not in 4.4.

** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Description changed:

The kernel parameter "nolapic" causes an unrecoverable kernel panic with
the 4.4.0-21 kernel in Xenial (16.04). I've verified this on two
different machines. The 4.2.0-36 kernel from 15.10 boots without
problems, with the same options. The kernel-logs contain no information
  on the failed boot attempts.

[Bug 1258597] Re: Warning: Setting GRUB_TIMEOUT to a non-zero value when GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT is set is no longer supported.

2016-05-14 Thread Hassan Williamson
I agree with Aimo, since this seems to be such a simple bug to fix, it
doesn't make sense that this hasn't been added to the current LTS 16.04
- it was reported around 3 years ago! Is this something that has been
pulled from Debian, if so should we be reporting it to them?
