[Bug 1585202] Re: Network Manager Fails to Automatically Connect to VPN After User Login

2016-05-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE, it's not directly OpenCV's fault that GCC versions later than
4.9 are not supported. It's actually CUDA 7.5 that doesn't support GCC
versions later than 4.9. There is a proposed solution at

[Bug 1585202] [NEW] Network Manager Fails to Automatically Connect to VPN After User Login

2016-05-24 Thread ptah
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 (Unity) with Ethernet connection set to automatically
connect to VPN in Network Manager after user login (to Ubuntu desktop).

Network Manager does not automatically connect to VPN after login.
Manually selecting the VPN connection from Network Manager in the system
tray after login results in normal connection.

Changing "password-flags=1" to "password-flags=0" in the VPN
configuration file in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections, Network-
Manager adds "password=" to that configuration file where is
VPN connection password in plain text. This change allow Network
Manager to connect to VPN automatically after user login.

Having to store VPN password in plain text in order for Network Manager
to automatically connect is not secure.

It appears Network Manager cannot obtain VPN password from Seahorse
after user login.

[Bug 1496292] Re: Needs to be ported to packagekit 1

FWIW, just making Aptdaemon stop to pretend to be PackageKit and then adjust
the dependent packages to not require the compat layer explicitly should also
do the job.
(we did that at Debian, and right now, only one package still explicitly
depends on Aptd (but that one is using Aptd-specific API)

[Bug 1584581] Re: playing around with software boutique

2016-05-24 Thread Luke Horwell
Thanks for reporting back. As your report isn't specific about a problem
with Welcome or Boutique (but rather, general feedback about gnome-
software itself), this is not a bug that is fixed in ubuntu-mate-welcome
-- the Boutique is installing software as expected.

Please consider filling a new bug report for gnome-software instead.
Although, software should be expected to temporarily break early in
16.10's development cycle. The bug you describe may have been already
reported.

For sharing feedback about Boutique applications, please discuss them at the

[Bug 1547286] Re: 16.04 installer can't get past "Force UEFI installation"

2016-05-24 Thread Fabien
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1418706 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1418706

The computer had 1xSSD + 1xRAID1of2xHDD and i'm using manual partitionning.
What i do :
-create new PT on the SSD and the RAID,
-add EFI part on the SSD,
-add parts i need on both disks.
-next and the pop-up...

I've finally have my fresh install, with this method :
-create new PT on each disk,
-add FAT32 part on the SSD (NOT EFI),
-add parts you need on disks,
-next and a pop-up about the missing EFI -> go back,
-select the first FAT32 part mensioned above, modify to EFI,
-next and install :)

Hope this helps...

[Bug 1573508] Re: nvidia-361 361.42-0ubuntu2: nvidia-361 kernel module failed to build [error: too many arguments to function ‘get_user_pages’]

2016-05-24 Thread Christian Lachner
Hey there,

I created a patch which updates os-mlock.c to adjust for the changes
made on the kernel-side in get_user_pages() (include/linux/mm.h).
However, I do not have a deep understanding of why the first 2
parameters of get_user_pages() were removed which is why this solution
needs to be tested thoroughly. The patch was done for nvidia-driver
v340.96 as this is the version I use on my system. However, the patch
might also be applicable for newer releases of the nvidia driver. After
applying the patch an additional "sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-legacy-
340xx-kernel-dkms" was enough to get the kernel module to work. The
patch must me applied inside /usr/src/nvidia-legacy-340xx-340.96 (I am
on debian - the actual path on ubuntu could be different). I hope I
could help.

Cheers, chris

It's not fixed as of 2016-05-24 08:50 edt. Installs sometimes happen but
no indicator that the package is installed, just the same "Install"
button shows. Further, "Important OS updates" does nothing for hours. I
wind up using Synaptic to mark and upgrade the system. Synaptic is
installed as Software doesn't display all available packages.

I appreciate the efforts for all involved in the Ubuntu project.

Thanks for getting back to me, Robie.

I'm hoping the bconsole issue won't affect me unless there are side
effects that I don't understand to that one. I don't use bconsole. I use
bat which may or may not have the same problem but, even if it does, my
backup jobs are automated so I'm hoping that if the director starts
running again it will start running the scheduled jobs.

[Bug 1361610] Re: libPCRE3 8.31 regex matching is not working

2016-05-24 Thread Arne de Bruijn
I was afraid so.

You could try using the pcre.h header from the embedded pcre in Poco
(apt-get source libPoco-dev, poco-1.3.6p1/Foundation/src/pcre.h), that
I've attached as pocopcre.h and not linking to the system pcre (just g++
regex.cc -lPocoFoundation).

That seems to work for me:
Poco POCO_VERSION on Linux 3.13.0-24-generic @ x86_64
Poco match 1234567890 to pattern ^[0-9]{10} matches? yes
Poco match 123456789 to pattern ^[0-9]{10} matches? no
PCRE 7.8 2008-09-05
PCRE match 1234567890 to pattern ^[0-9]{10} matches? yes
PRCE match 123456789 to pattern ^[0-9]{10} matches? no

If you need a more recent pcre you need to change Poco somehow to not
expose the pcre functions, for example by renaming them, adding a
namespace or using __attribute__ ((visibility ("hidden"))). Maybe the
poco developers can help you with that.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools

[Bug 1540168] Re: Update OpenCV version for 16.04

2016-05-24 Thread Raymond Liu
There is another pressing issue. When I tried to compile OpenCV 3.1.0
from source, it complains that GCC versions later than 4.9 are not
supported. The version of GCC that ships with Ubuntu 16.04 is 5.3.1 I
think, which is nice. So the fact that OpenCV doesn't support it is a
real shame. I desperately need OpenCV 3.x for my work and this is a
massive setback.

Adding sleep 10 in /etc/rc.local before alsactl restore does not help.

Contrary to what I said in my previous email in my last try running in
terminal "sudo alsactl restore" did not manage to restore the mixer
settings (even though there were no warnings or error messages) but
"alsactl restore" (no sudo) did.

[Bug 1585179] [NEW] Smarty3 package incompatible with PHP7

2016-05-24 Thread Pehr Söderman
Public bug reported:

The version of Smarty3 (3.1.21-1ubuntu1) provided in 16.04 is not

templates do not compile.

[Bug 1571574] Re: [SRU] network-manager-applet

2016-05-24 Thread Aron Xu
** Description changed:

- After establishing a 3G connection, the icon shown in system tray should
- be a 3G indicator to indicate that 3G is connected.
+ [Impact]

- However, in Xenial there is no 3G icon at all.
- After 3G connection is established, it remains as the previous icon displayed.
- (e.g.
- If no other connection was established before 3G connection was made, then
the icon is a "hollow fan shape" after connecting to 3G.
- If wifi was connected before 3G connection was made, then the icon after 3G
connection shows a wifi icon.)
+ In this report we are trying to address several issues network-manager-
+ applet 1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 suffers by doing cherry-picks from
+ upstream 1.2 stable branch.

- network-manager: 1.1.93-0ubuntu3
- OS: Xenial daily (2016 Apr. 15)
+ By using a 3G WWAN dongle, after establishing a 3G connection, the icon
+ shown in system tray should be a 3G indicator to indicate that 3G is
+ connected. However, in Xenial there is no 3G icon at all. After 3G
+ connection is established, it remains as the previous icon displayed.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ By upgrading to the -proposed package, the icon shown in system tray should
be a 3G indicator to indicate that 3G is connected when using WWAN.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ This update also includes patches targeting other issues which are not
+ related to this bug directly, but all these fix are clear and have
+ minimum changes, chance of regression is limited.

Note that those values are only honored the first time an application
starts. if the user resizes it, that's what unity will remember.

[Bug 1584720] Re: Indicator Applet Appmenu has two 'Calculator' application menus

2016-05-24 Thread Ads20000
Right, well since it's a general bug I've detailed other issues in the
bug report. They may be separate bugs; if it would be helpful to split
them out then I'll do that. I'm not sure which issues are unrelated to
this one though. As I've put in the description, one of them affects
LibreOffice, which is not a GNOME app.

** Description changed:

- Indicator Applet Appmenu has two 'Calculator' application menus (Preferences,
Help, About, Quit). This applies to GNOME Calculator 3.20.1. It should only
have one 'Calculator' application menu.
- I don't know whether this is a bug in GNOME Calculator or Indicator Applet
Appmenu.
+ Indicator Applet Appmenu has two 'Calculator' application menus
+ (Preferences, Help, About, Quit). This applies to GNOME Calculator
+ 3.20.1. It should only have one 'Calculator' application menu.
+
+ According to Sebastien Bacher (see comment #3), this is a general
+ integration issue with some GNOME apps. So I will also note here that
+ sometimes the second menu has the name of a different application, or
+ 'Unknown Application Name' and is unusable (i.e. clicking on its menu
+ items does nothing). Sometimes only the unusable menu is displayed so
+ one can't use the application menu at all.
+
+ Going through my applications, the above issue(s) appear in:
+ Disks (3.20.2)
+ Font Viewer (3.20.2)
+ Help (yelp) (3.20.1)
+ Screenshot (3.18.0)
+ AisleRiot Solitaire (3.20.2)
+ Sudoku (3.18.2)
+ Calendar (3.20.2)
+ Cheese (3.20.2)
+ Disk Usage Analyser (Baobab) (3.18.1)
+ Ubuntu Software (3.20.1)
+ System Log (3.9.90)
+ System Monitor (3.20.1)
+ Terminal (3.18.3)
+
+ I also get the issue with a menu having the name of a different
+ application and being unusable, or being an application menu for the
+ focused window but being titled 'Unknown Application Name', with
+ LibreOffice 5.1.2.2 which is not a GNOME app.

[Bug 1585107] Re: ding only matches words beginning a-i

2016-05-24 Thread Roland Rosenfeld
I suppose, you configured ding to use egrep for searching the dictionary?
Please try, whether it helps to add "-a" to the egrep options.
Alternatively using agrep or internal-grep should work around your problem, too.
