[Bug 1513914] Re: Dell E7440 touchpad jumps position

2016-06-03 Thread Martyn
The problem still exists when running E7440, A18 bios, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
and Kernel v4.6-yakkety (2016-06-03 14:14)

I am unable to try with Kernel v4.7rc1-yakkety (2016-05-29 18:30) as
this Kernel version fails to complete the boot process (reports UUID
 does not exist error)

[Bug 1587968] Re: evince insentitive to typing in search, page, zoom, ect fields

I have two systems, a workstation with "proposed" and a laptop with
straight Xenial. Both have the same version of Evince. So it's probably
an underlying desktop library that recently showed up in "proposed".

would need to change, not Ubuntu as the packaging distro.

switch itself nowadays rather than letting X do so (see e.g.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1244090). I guess
the contents of /etc/default/keyboard are completely overridden by
Gnome.

[Bug 806499] Re: xz should warn before overwriting read-only files

2016-06-03 Thread Rolf Leggewie
OK, I was able to verify it now, made a mistake earlier. I'll let
somebody else decide if this is desired behaviour.

Steps to reproduce:
$ echo "test" |xz > /tmp/test.txt.xz
$ chmod 444 /tmp/test.txt.xz
$ unxz /tmp/test.txt.xz
$ ls -la /tmp/test.txt*
-r--r--r-- 1 rolf rolf 5 Jun 4 13:06 /tmp/test.txt

gunzip exhibits the same behaviour, by the way.

[Bug 1017825] Re: USB IO excruciatingly slow on NTFS with dell xps15 laptop

I see this on Ubuntu 16.04. I get write speeds of 100kb/s while copying
files to an NTFS external USB 3 drive, compared to 75MB/s on Windows.

Remounting the external drive with big_writes does raise speed somewhat,
but only to 5MB/s max, still an order of magnitude low.

[Bug 1493999] Re: xz-utils package is really, really old

2016-06-03 Thread Rolf Leggewie
The Debian maintainer is too busy to take care of the package. There's
a user-contributed packaging at git://git.breakpoint.cc/bigeasy/xz-
utils-debian.git that the maintainer gave a nod of approval and then sat
on it for lamost half a year now. This should have shipped in Xenial
already. Ubuntu should act now instead of waiting endlessly for an
important feature in xz (multi-threading to take advantage of multiple
cores to do the heavy lifting).

[Bug 1589029] Re: failed to load driver: swrast

2016-06-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1589029/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1589028] [NEW] Improper blocksize set by usb-creator, leads to problems during formatting

2016-06-03 Thread Severus Tux
Public bug reported:

When ever I create a bootable USB using usb-creator , and when I try to
format it after my work is done, I get this error

“The Driver descriptor says physical block size is 2048 bytes, but Linux
says it is 512” in Gparted. (screen shot in the attachment)

Furthermore , The USB is divided into strange partitions (image
attached). and shows the 16GB partition as 60GB partition.

I presume that this is because of setting the blocksize to 100 by
this tool : as in the source code here : https://bazaar.launchpad.net
/~usb-creator-hackers/usb-creator/trunk/view/474/bin/usb-creator-
helper#L111

[Bug 1588913] Re: SRU: New upstream release (3.18.3)

2016-06-03 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  [Description]
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS was released with gnome-documents version 3.18.2.

GNOME has released a bugfix update for the stable 3.18 series: 3.18.3.

  [Test cases]
Here are the three things it fixes:

  1. Unbreak going back from preview when launched from search provider
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/760124

  a. Download a .pdf to ~/Documents or ~/Downloads
- b. Wait a few moments for tracker to index the file (tracker is enabled by
default so this should happen automatically)
+ b. Wait a few moments for tracker to index the file (tracker is enabled by
default in Ubuntu GNOME so this should happen automatically there)
  c. From GNOME Shell, open the Activities Overview and search for the pdf you
downloaded.
  d. Click the result with the Documents logo to the left of it (the result
with the File Browser icon next to it will open in Evince instead which is not
what we want here).
  e. Once Documents has opened, click the back button in the top left of the
toolbar.
  f. The bug is that it doesn't lead you back to the Documents main screen.

  2. Disable Print menu item when unsupported (Bastien Nocera)
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=758445

  a. The upstream bug only notes CBR and CBZ as being affected. Note that those
files do not show up in GNOME Documents but show up in GNOME Books and this SRU
hides Books by default (LP: #1584522).
  b. Download a .cbz. I suggest
http://www.bitcartel.com/downloads/martinlutherking.cbz to ~/Documents or
~/Downloads
  c. Run gnome-books (from a terminal or Alt+F2)
  d. Open the martinlutherking document.
  e. In the top right corner, click the menu drop down button.
  f. The bug is that the Print button is shown as active (able to be clicked)
but doesn't do anything when you click it. The bug fix is that the button is
shown greyed out since the document can't be printed by GNOME Books.

  3. Try not to open PDFs in GIMP
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/758529
I was unable to reproduce this bug.

  [Regression potential]
The only fix I might be concerned about is #3 because I could not reproduce
the original bug easily. However I have not seen any issues from it and it was
included in GNOME 3.20 and backported to the 3.18 and 3.16 stable branches.

2016-06-03 Thread Yvain
Public bug reported:

With provided kernel module, Bluetooth pretends to be active but there
is no real activity.

* Fix by adding a declaration in kernel sources

* Compiled extra module /lib/modules/4.4.0-22-generic/extra/btusb.ko

* Successfully tested against my phone (obex file transfer)

[Bug 1586770] Re: Add pymacaroons to xenial

2016-06-03 Thread Colin Watson
I installed python{,3}-{pymacaroons,mock,nose} from
xenial-{updates,proposed}, copied pymacaroons's functional tests to a
fresh directory to avoid problems with them quietly importing the
modules from git instead of the packaged ones, and ran "nosetests -v
tests/functional_tests" and "nosetests3 -v tests/functional_tests".
Both pass. I also played about a bit with some manual macaroon
construction and inspection in the python{,3} REPLs, and things look
fine there too.

It just happened again and the stated line returns nothing.
Didn't think to ps|grep but I guess the app wasn't running at all.

[Bug 1574432] Re: window load crash on starup

2016-06-03 Thread Logan Rosen
The specific upstream fix appears to be here:
https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/commit/8974c1a223e5dc31390f1981c5dc530d349ffd14

Assuming this patch applies cleanly to the version currently in
Xenial/Yakkety, I'll build an updated .deb and attach it to this bug for
testing. Should be ready shortly.

[Bug 1589015] [NEW] Printer bug adds code into /var/tmp endlessly

2016-06-03 Thread Mark Preston
Public bug reported:

Canon Maxify MB2320 printer (all-in-one) causes or systemd causes lines
to be added to /var/tmp/ continuously. By constant, I mean whenever the
printer, or scanner, or copier function. I reported a bug at the Canon
Printer Community Forum for it's writing massively large files (starting
cnij) and filling /var/tmp to the point where / was complaining of no
space remaining. As these two problems may be linked I'm posting a
little about the cnij files, too. Please bear with me.

http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Office-Printers/Maxify-MB2320-and-
driver/td-p/165313

The next problem occurs after I start a weekly removal of those cnij
files. When the device (printer) was first installed there were but 3 or
4 files in /var/tmp, no including the cnij-s.

That has now grown to 70+ lines. I append a few here, as they are
somewhat similar. If you wish to see all 70, they are at
https://paste.ubuntu.com/16968056/

Representative sample:

mark@Lexington:/var/tmp$ ls
canon_sgmp2_setting.ini
kdecache-mark
mkinitramfs-FW_mgeshg
systemd-private-273505a4cf664ff0af6e81870ea6665a-colord.service-hk7T18

systemd-private-29b03f52b21d493abf1e8ea22b6b7adc-systemd-timesyncd.service-BuNOet

While trying to run Ubuntu's (badly named app) "Backup", I received the
following error message:

Backup Failed

Giving up after 5 attempts. Error: g-io-error-quark: Error opening file:
'/media/mark/80cb5313-35a0-432b-9250-4cc62d79a3c8/duplicity-
inc.20160528T201042Z.to.20160603T203335Z.vol2.diff tar.gpg': Read-only
file system (21)

I have asked for help at AskUbuntu and the Ubuntu Forums. At AskU I was
directed to report the bug here. Following the Launchpad reporting
guidelines:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release:16.04

mark@Lexington:/var/tmp$ apt-cache policy backups
N: Unable to locate package backups

I expected the backup to run as it has for years and years.

Backup reports fail message.

I am not aware of whether this is a security bug. I have left that box
unchecked.

There has been no response at Ubuntu Forums as yet. If there is one I
will add the relevant information as it becomes available.

[Bug 1587730] Re: graphic system freezes after a while, can still ssh into machine

2016-06-03 Thread James
It has locked up again overnight but I can still SSH in.
One possible thought is - could it be systemd-timesync which is the problem and
not actually xorg?

The Xorg.0.log shows nothing unusual but syslog and kern.log are full of
entries about CPU lockup, and "top" as always shows systemd-timesync as
the process hogging the CPU (xorg sometimes shows up hogging 100% of CPU
time in the "top" list, but systems-timesync ALWAYS does when I
experience a freeze:
