[Bug 1608953] Re: Issue with systemd issue when run inside a container

2016-08-17 Thread Martin Pitt
FTR, there is a similar bug 1611973 about postgresql not starting in a
cloud instance, but this is specific to cloud-init, not to LXC. How sure
are you that this is really due to the low FDs of pid 1, as opposed to
that bug? Do you have some useful logs to look at, like a journal
output from that container? (although generators don't log into journal,
they run earlier than journald starts -- on a "real" system their error
messages land in dmesg, not sure if containers are allowed to do that).

** Summary changed:

- Issue with systemd issue when run inside a container
+ PostgreSQL does not start in container

** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1608953] Re: Issue with systemd issue when run inside a container

2016-08-17 Thread Martin Pitt
I tried again with "classic" LXC (not lxd), and there the FDs look
differently: In xenial they point to /dev/pts/4, in yakkety they point
to /dev/pts/1. But installing postgresql in both xenial and yakkety
works fine.

I also tried with lxc-start-ephemeral, but in that case the low FDs are
again pointing to /dev/null and things work fine (but I suppose you
don't use emphemeral containers).

So, I'm happy to backport the patch, but I'm unable to create an SRU
test case or verify the fix myself.

[Bug 1608953] Re: Issue with systemd issue when run inside a container

2016-08-17 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks for the initial analysis! This is very helpful. I'm marking this
as fixed in yakkety and add a xenial task.

I tried to reproduce this. I created a standard xenial and yakkety
container:

  lxc launch images:ubuntu/xenial/amd64 x1
  lxc launch images:ubuntu/yakkety/amd64 y1

In both of them pid1's low fds look okay:

$ lxc exec x1 -- ls -l /proc/1/fd/{0,1,2}
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 18 05:10 /proc/1/fd/0 -> /dev/null
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 18 05:10 /proc/1/fd/1 -> /dev/null
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 18 05:10 /proc/1/fd/2 -> /dev/null

(same for y1)

PostgreSQL starts fine after installation:

$ lxc exec x1 -- apt install -y postgresql
$ lxc exec x1 -- pg_lsclusters
Ver Cluster Port Status OwnerData directory Log file
9.5 main5432 online postgres /var/lib/postgresql/9.5/main
/var/log/postgresql/postgresql-9.5-main.log

(again, same for y1)

The generator ran:

$ lxc exec x1 -- ls -lR /run/systemd/generator/postgresql.service.wants
/run/systemd/generator/postgresql.service.wants:
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 Aug 18 05:13 postgresql@9.5-main.service ->
/lib/systemd/system/postgresql@.service

So I'm afraid I cannot reproduce this for testing the fix. This is a
requirement for SRUs. Can you please describe how this can be
reproduced?

Hello Canonical,

This patches fixes issue of collecting OPAL firmware logs.. which is
important for debugging PowerNV host issues. Hence can you please pull
the commit mentioned in this bug to 16.04 LTS release?

Note that 16.10 contains sosreport 3.3 ..which has required fix.

[Bug 1543754] Re: [MIR] barbican, python-pykmip

2016-08-17 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed python-pykmip version 0.5.0-1 as checked into Ubuntu yakkety;
this shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick
gauge of maintainability.

- I did not notice python-pykmip CVEs in our tracking database

- python-pykmip provides a standardized user interface to hardware
  security modules, and provides a software "hardware" security module;
  this is marked deprecated, but might yet prove useful with proper access
  control mechanisms in place.
- Build-depends: debhelper, dh-python, python-all, python-setuptools,
  python-sphinx, python3-all, python3-setuptools, python-coverage,
  python-cryptography, python-enum34, python-fixtures, python-mock,
  python-pytest, python-six, python-sqlalchemy, python-testresources,
  python-testscenarios, python-testtools, python3-coverage,
  python3-cryptography, python3-fixtures, python3-mock, python3-pytest,
  python3-six, python3-sqlalchemy, python3-subunit, python3-testresources,
  python3-testscenarios, python3-testtools, subunit, testrepository,

- Does not daemonize as usual, hopefully whatever uses pykmip is prepared to
  handle the usual daemonizing
- pre/post inst/rm are automatically generated dh_python* and
update-alternatives
- No initscript
- No dbus services
- No setuid
- python3-pykmip-server and python2-pykmip-server executables in PATH
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- Relatively clean build logs
- No cronjobs
- Many tests in test suite run during build

- No subprocesses spawned
- Logging file opened via usual logging mechanisms
- Logging mechanisms looked safe
- Does not itself use environment variables
- No privileged operations
- Uses python's TLS facilities
- Listens on sockets
- I didn't review closely enough to discover if there are privileged areas
  of code
- /tmp use that looks sketchy:
  sqlite:tmp/pykmip.database  in  KmipEngine()
  This may justify further exploration, fixes.
- Does not use WebKit
- Does not use PolicyKit
- Does not use JS

The parts of this that I read looked professionally programmed; that said,
the sqlite:tmp/pykmip.database is awkward and out of place.

Where does this get stored?

Before we can promote this package to main we need to be sure that this
database isn't stored in /tmp with a predictable name.

Thanks

[Bug 1614365] Re: lightdm multi monitor layout does not respect user setting

2016-08-17 Thread Christian González
Additionally: I think that the display setting (resolution etc) is more
or less no "user specific" setting, as mostly monitors are placed
physically and left there - most users on a multi-user desktop system
won't regularly move the monitors around and use custom user specific
settings then.

[Bug 1614365] [NEW] lightdm multi monitor layout does not respect user setting

2016-08-17 Thread Christian González
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 16.04.1, and lightdm 1.18.2-0ubuntu2 during login, lightdm does
not respect my multi monitor settings. In my user session, my external monitor
is on the left, the laptop monitor right.
On the login screen, it's the other way round, external right, laptop left,
which does not respect my physical setting.

This leads to wrapping the mouse around the edges awkwardly, and seems
to produce bugs like flickering and displaying crap of a buffer (see Bug
850885) during transition to the user session.

I know that lightdm does not respect the ~/.config/monitors.xml file,
and that file could be copied to /etc - but this seems weird to me.

I propose to add a setting in unity-control-center -> Displays (needs to
be unlocked like in user settings) th "use that configuration on login
screen".

[Bug 850885] Re: (oneiric) greeter screen displayed incorrectly with external monitor during login

2016-08-17 Thread Christian González
I have the same problem here. As additional hint: During my user
session, my monitors are layouted correctly (Laptop monitor right,
external left, as configured in Unity Control Center), but lightdm
doesn't respect that (as ~/.config/monitors.xml isn't read by lightdm I
suppose), so during login the external monitor is on the right.

The display resolutions are the same during login and user session.

This seems to lead to the problem that the display buffer needs to
change because the monitors are going to be switched. Could it "solve"
(optically) the problem if lightdm would just accept the multi monitor
setting of the user?

This seems to need another setting in Unity Control Center/Display like
"Use this settings for login screen" (needs to be "unlocked" like in
user settings too).

  - a white flash
  - that same sign in screen re-displayed but this time it is only in the top

2016-08-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 14.04 is 14.04.5. Please try installing from that
version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue.
Thanks in advance!

I've filed https://github.com/uclouvain/openjpeg/issues/811 to ask the

(Sorry about the extra messages, but github won't let me upload
attachments. So launchpad is most convenient for hosting the tarball.)

Thanks

2016-08-17 Thread -None-
Xubuntu 16.04.1 x86_64
uptime: 7 days
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xfce4/panel/wrapper-2.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xfce4/panel/plugins/libindicator-plugin.so 454M (RES

I think the problem with libindicator-plugin.so still exists.

[Bug 250211] Re: WLAN LED blinks incessantly on iwl3945 | iwl4965 laptop

2016-08-17 Thread David Dombrowsky
This ancient bug seems to still affect old laptops when they are
resurrected using ubuntu 16.04. Running the iwl3945 wireless driver on
this HP laptop will result in the LED blinking on traffic. Adding the
module option fixes the problem. I find it hard to believe that isn't
the default for all drivers.

[zmq] Let proxy serve on a static port numbers

Currently proxy binds to a random port from a port range
specified in zmq config and therefore needs to register in
redis to become visible to clients and servers.

That could be done much simpler by using a static port(s) for
proxy. Moreover zmq handles reconnect to a socket if restarted
service uses the same port number as it had before restart.

[Bug 1588915] Re: ifup does not block for interface to be up with static addresses

2016-08-17 Thread Iskren Ivov Chernev
I'm also affected by this issue.

So network-online.target and network.target are a good catch all that
should work, but also there should be a way to wait on a particular
(especially statically configured) interface to be up. I would think
ifup@XXX.service would finish only after XXX is up, but that is not the
case.

We still run autopkgtests. We just don't run the integration tests
which depend on the python test harness for scopes, due to a bug. Until
the bug is fixed, we can't really enable them, as they will be
unreliable.

With the init-departments-db tool in the source. Hopefully we can get
rid of this tool, and the departments.db in the future, as it appears
we'll have something else for snaps, and the reason we had to do it
this way is no longer valid. This is really just an initial cache
though.

I've already subscribed unity-api-team today, but maybe you checked
prior to that.

Can you file a separate bug for this (fixing it obviously doesn't
resolve the MIR, but would like a bug to link to)?

[Bug 1247528] Re: Build and distribute intel-virtual-output

2016-08-17 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Nice, Daniel. If you also include in the patch the necessary entry in
debian/changelog, you increase the chances that the sponsor uploads
directly to the -trusty queue instead of pointing out that more work is
neeed.

[Bug 1566302] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: Suspend freezes the system after upgrade to linux image 4.4.0-16

2016-08-17 Thread Ilya G. Ryabinkin
Sorry for being grumpy, but something has be done with kernel quality
assurance. 4.4 kernel apparently has multiple issues---in my case I have
troubles on both 16.04 & 14.04 Ubuntus. They are:

1. blank virtual consoles after some time on 14.04.5@Asus Zenbook UX301 CA
2. Random Xorg lockups on 16.04.1@Lenovo thinkpad x220. Interestingly, the
laptop is not completely frozen---after pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 I'm able to get to
tty1, but after 30-40s. But going back to X results in still unresponsive
graphics, so the only thing I can do is to issue a "shutdown -r now" command
from the console... Kernel is complaining in dmesg about 'lost vblank'.

All these things, I believe, are due to multiple bugs in 4.4 kernel,
presumably in intel video driver and/or a DRM subsystem---seems like
it's badly broken in 4.4.

Ubuntu kernel team should really consider to drop 4.4 support and move
on to the next major kernel release.

[Bug 1594222] Re: known ssld crash

2016-08-17 Thread anarcat
i have packaged 3.5.2 in debian sid, and it should hit testing/backports
soon. i had problems running 3.5.0 in production, as ssld would indeed
crash. i filed this issue upstream to discuss the bug and they promptly
fixed it:

https://github.com/charybdis-ircd/charybdis/issues/210

the patch is in the debian package and should be shipped with 3.5.3
soonish.

is this the same issue you have seen?

is 3.4 vulnerable to the issue you are describing? i haven't suffered
from the problems you described in the wild on the 3.4 branch...

2016-08-17 Thread anarcat
there is no form to fill, so I can't fill the form they ask me to. i
don't know how that thing works at all, so maybe i'm doing something
wrong. when i try to visit the link you pasted, it asks me for my openid
login, which i have, but then i get redirected to
https://errors.ubuntu.com/?login-failed=true - even though I am actually
logged in.

copying the stacktrace or haveing *some* more information would indeed
be very useful.

also note that debian has a new version packaged (3.5.2) which should
hit backports soon.

sorry for the delay in my response, but I wasn't subscribed to the bug
so I haven't seen your reply.

[Bug 1577926] Re: apt-key works fine, yet apt fails with "Could not execute 'apt-key'"

2016-08-17 Thread pjd
@janl
in my case, apt was unable to use the _apt user due to misconfiguration. it did
report (some) failure, which to ignore would be my choice and responsibility
then - there is no way of making apt resolve the _apt user issue in a way that
would lead to consistently increasing system security.

hence this is not a security bug, but rather just a request for
increasing verbosity in error messages - in order to ease debugging
OTHER bugs.

please verify that you did indeed have the same issue with the following steps:
1. run apt, preserving the /tmp/apt.(data|sig).+ downloads (e.g. by
*temporarily* chattr+a-ing your /tmp directory)
2. run the apt-key command on the exact same files from a root command line and
compare output
3. run the apt-key command on the exact same files from a _apt command line and
compare output

Temporary fix to address the issue while the above patches are being
reviewed.

==

Canonical,

Please add the attached temporary fix to 16.10 to address the following
issue while the upstream changes are being considered.

   When booting a very large system with a large initrd we run out of space
   for the flattened device tree (FDT). To fix this we must increase the
   space allocated for the RMA region.

[Bug 1614308] [NEW] kwin crashes when booting from Kubuntu 16.04 32bit Live-DVD

2016-08-17 Thread Lars Bischoff
Public bug reported:

When booting from a freshly burned Live DVD using images
 kubuntu-16.04-desktop-i386.iso or
 kubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
kwin always crashes on my system.

Booting works fine until the plasma background image is appearing.
Also the selection window whether you want to "try" or "install" Kubuntu shows
up, but only without window frame. At about the same time I get a crash
notification that kwin has crashed.
If I click on "restart" in the crash notification, then after some trials
another window (without frame) says: "KWin is unstable. It seems to have
crashed several times in a row." and suggests to select another window manager.
Of course the Kubuntu ISO does not contain another window manager.

[Bug 1566508] Re: autofs races with sssd on startup

2016-08-17 Thread Maciej Puzio
Here is my attempt to sort out how many bugs are related to autofs
failing on boot.

This bug (1566508)
As noted earlier, these are actually two issues:
1. autofs starts before sssd.
2. autofs starts after sssd, but before sssd responders are up.
On Trusty, I observed #1 and #2, and on Xenial I observed neither, while Victor
Tapia reported only observing #2 on Xenial (comment #13).
Regarding the apparent fix for #1 in Xenial, I believe that it is accidental,
and the proper fix is subject of bug 1614248. Regarding #2 in Xenial, I can
only say that I tried very hard to reproduce it, and I could not.

In this bug we also discuss another issue that was not subject of the original
bug report:
3. sssd trying to connect to its providers (e.g. LDAP) before network is ready.
On Trusty, I observed it only very rarely, but in Xenial this issue occurred on
every boot. Victor Tapia reports observing this problem on both Trusty and
Xenial.

I do not think that creating a new autofs or sssd bug for this issue
would be a good idea, because this problem is not caused directly by
autofs or sssd, but rather is a result of ifupdown bug 1588915 (at least
this is so on Xenial).

However this bug would be no reason of concern if autofs were able to recover
from an initial map read failure. There are two issues here, both covered by
bug 1614282:
4. autofs does not appear to read cached automount maps from sssd.
5. autofs does not mount shares even when it is finally able to read maps from
sssd, after network is up and sssd has been able to receive maps from its
provider (e.g. LDAP).

Regarding #4, the problem may lie with sssd rather than autofs. I am not sure
if this issue is related to problem mentioned by Jakub Hrozek in comment #9.
However, Jakub's patch will fix #4 (possibly), but not #5; we also want autofs
to mount shares, when possible, even when there were no maps in cache on
startup.
As to Victor's comment #3, I observed the problem with indirect maps. All maps,
including the master map, come from the LDAP server, so perhaps it's the master
map that is not updated automatically, rendering everything unusable.
Unfortunately, my tests with sending HUP to automount daemon did not produce
results as described in the manpage (yet another bug?). In any case, the logic
that manpage describes as "change on the fly" should not apply to the situation
when there is no master map whatsoever due to an earlier error (as is our case).

Bug 1614248 Package autofs does not include autofs.service file
Bug 1614282 autofs does not recover from failure to read maps on startup
Bug 1584818 autofs fails to read sss [duplicate, but difficult to say what of;
most likely referring to issue #3]

[Bug 1614253] Re: cd ../ fails to complete directories from symbolic link to another filesystem

2016-08-17 Thread Dmitry Lapshin
** Description changed:

  I have found strange fault of bash completion for cd builtin.
  It's best described with an example.
  Let's just think I have second drive mounted on /mnt

  $ mkdir /tmp/bug && cd /tmp/bug
  $ mkdir 1
  $ ln -s link-1 1
  $ ln -s link-fs /mnt
  $ ls -l # To see contents
  drwxrwxrwx ... 1
  lrwxrwxrwx ... link-1 -> 1
  lrwxrwxrwx ... link-fs -> /mnt
  $ cd 1
  $ cd ../[TAB TAB] # Works fine
  1/link-1/link-fs/
  $ cd ../link-1
  $ cd ../[TAB TAB] # Works fine too
  1/link-1/link-fs/
  $ cd ../link-fs
  $ cd ../[TAB TAB] # !! Ooups, nothing !!
  $ ls ../[TAB TAB] # But hey, that works!
  1/link-1/link-fs/
- $ cd ../[TAB TAB] # That works fine too
+ $ cd /mnt; cd ../[TAB TAB] # That works fine too
  bin/boot/...
  $ cd ../

  This behaviour looks very strange for me, and I don't know, is that
  behaviour triggered by bash-completion or by bash itself, but that's
  definetly a small, but annoying bug.

  Running 16.04.1 (xenial), bash is 4.3-14ubuntu1.1, bash-completion is
  1:2.1-4.2ubuntu1.1
