[Bug 1178272] Re: Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report "jack server is not running or cannot be started" and do not play

2016-08-20 Thread gmorehou
This is still a problem in Lubuntu 16.04. gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio is
installed by default (presumably following Ubuntu), gstreamer1.0-alsa is
not.

'sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-alsa' fixes the problem. Gstreamer apps
such as banshee now output audio instead of silence.

I will file a bug against lubuntu-desktop and reference this bug.

** Also affects: gstreamer1.0 (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Summary changed:

- Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report "jack server is not running
or cannot be started" and do not play
+ Lubuntu: banshee, rhythmbox, etc cannot play audio without pulseaudio or
gstreamer1.0-alsa

[Bug 1615326] [NEW] volume control UI too sticky (Lubuntu 16.04)

2016-08-20 Thread gmorehou
Public bug reported:

This bug is regarding the volume control applet/widget/whatever in
Lubuntu 16.04 in lxpanel.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS

Upon clicking the volume control icon, a slider pops up. Upon clicking
anywhere else on the display, in other windows, in the panel itself, the
slider remains visible and on top of most other elements on the display
with one notable exception, context menus from other panel applets (or
at least the context menu from network connections applet).

WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN

Upon clicking the volume control icon, a slider pops up. Upon clicking
anywhere else on the display, the slider should disappear.

[Bug 1615321] [NEW] Caller's name too small on Aquaris E4.5

2016-08-20 Thread N. Gineer
Public bug reported:

On the BQ Aquaris E4.5, when the phone rings, the font of the caller's
name is only ~1.5 mm high. This is not large enough to identify the
caller in every situation (e.g. when the phone cannot be held steadily).
Because this info has to be legible immediately, and in situations when
the usage of the phone was not expected, I think the font size should be
at least about the one used in the dialer-app in the "Calling" screen,
or even larger.

[Bug 1441253] Re: hanging suspend job prevents shutdown

2016-08-20 Thread Alberto Santini
I could not agree more with Robert Jansen, as I also think the problem
is caused by the systemd plague. Steps to reproduce on a Thinkpad X1
Carbon 4th gen:

1) Turn on; shutdown -h now => no problem;
2) Turn on; sleep (e.g. close lid); wake up (e.g. open lid); shutdown -h now =>
problem!

Doing a ps aux | grep systemd, however, does not show any systemd-sleep
process that might be hanging.

[Bug 1615184] Re: systemd update breaks screen lock, dpms, startup programs

2016-08-20 Thread Rocko
Reading the associated Debian bug (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=834367), it's a different one from this bug. That
bugs refers to issues after running systemctl daemon-reexec (which
happens when systemd is upgraded) caused by keypresses being sent to a
tty console as well as to the X session, and the workaround is to
reboot. This bug occurs with the latest systemd installed even after a
reboot, and is not related to the systemd upgrade process.

I have certainly seen all those issues when systemd is upgraded (usually
one of my monitors turns off, even though it is set to be on; I have
seen the keypresses echoed to a tty console; I have had the system
reboot on CTRL-ALT-DEL even though I was in an X-session; and I have
seen it switch to tty consoles unexpectedly from an X-session).

So just to be clear: _this_ bug occurs after any number of reboots with
systemd 231-4 installed. It does not occur with systemd 231-1 installed.
It does not appear to be related to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=834367. (Really, I would not have reported a bug
if I knew there was an upgraded version of the relevant package
available.)

[Bug 1615314] [NEW] It struggles to start

2016-08-20 Thread el_gallo_azul
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
Release:14.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

rhythmbox:
  Installed: 3.0.2-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 3.0.2-0ubuntu2

 3.0.2-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64
Packages

3) What you expected to happen

The application starts easily and quickly

4) What happened instead

4.1 As soon as starting the app, the screen greys out, as if running low
on system resources. I can now rule that possibility out, because I had
only just booted, I had not started any other applications, and this
computer has LOADS of memory and LOADS of processing power. This
'greying out' lasts for about 30 seconds or so, and I cannot use the
application at all during this time.

4.2 Also right near the end of this 'greying out' time, an error message
appears, saying "The application Rhythmbox has closed unexpectedly",
despite the fact that the application Rhythmbox HAS NOT closed. I attach
a screenshot of the message.

This bug has been occurring for more than a year, and occurs EVERY TIME
that I start the application.

I noticed that my /run mounted as tmpfs and is 371M and just used 1.5M.
There is still plenty of room.

My system is installed in the second disk (/dev/sdb1) and boot loader in
/dev/sda is the grub.

After the installation failed, I can find the vmlinuz and initrd.img are
already installed in the /boot. One thing odd is that the driver
/lib/modules/ took 192M, while the newly installed
/lib/modules/3.16.0-73-generic used 33M and the same size by
/lib/modules/3.16.0-76-generic.

This drive is a flash drive, and I didn't find any error logged with the
'dmesg' command.

The same error still happened without any clue.

[Bug 1615305] [NEW] Output when changing comment is weird and badly documented

2016-08-20 Thread Karol Babioch
Public bug reported:

Changing a key comment within a private key might not be something you
do on a daily basis, but it is mostly a frustrating task, since the
documentation is incomplete and wrong. In particular the man page says:

-c Requests changing the comment in the private and public key
files. This operation is only supported for RSA1 keys and keys stored in the
newer OpenSSH
format. The program will prompt for the file containing the
private keys, for the passphrase if the key has one, and for the new comment.

So, one gets the impression that this is not applicable to newer keys.
However bug #811125 dealt with this, and there was a commit (see [1])
that added support for basically all key types. In the case of RSA keys
one has to use the new key format though (-o), which can only be find
out with trial and error and is not documented at all.

Furthermore the output of an actual ssh-keygen run is also confusing:

[kbabioch@antares .ssh]$ ssh-keygen -c -C "new comment" -f id_rsa -o
Enter passphrase:
Key now has comment '(null)'
The comment in your key file has been changed.

The output tells me that the key is now empty (null). However the
comment is correctly set, so while this works as intended, it is
confusing to the user.

[Bug 1500210] Re: gtk.css incorrectly modified

2016-08-20 Thread apsaras
Confirmed using Xubuntu 16.04 with the Kokodi theme. (I use this theme to give
windows a decently big border to grip for resizing).

Thank you Aielyn for your diagnosis, thanks to which I can use the workaround
of manually editing the semicolons back in the css file (and not changing the
theme again).

[Bug 1615300] [NEW] Foobillardplus crashes each time I attempt to start it...

2016-08-20 Thread Aaron R. Durland
Public bug reported:

Hi all...

For some reason, each time I attempt to start foobillardplus, the window
for it comes up but nothing appears (the window is black, except for the
top border which contains the program name.) After a few seconds, the
window will disappear, usually leaving me with an error message and
offering to send information concerning the crash to, I'm guessing,
Canonical.

Distribution (or version of Lubuntu) information reported by
"lsb_release -rd:"

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release:14.04

The version of foobillardplus is: 3.43~svn170+dfsg-1

I also attempted to start the program using using the CLI and these are
the results:

I don't understand why this bug is closed. Many Java apps failed on
Ubuntu (I was on 14.04LTS & now 16.04LTS) and the bug is always present.

I got the bug with Freemind 1.0.1 and Freeplane 1.3.15-3.

[Bug 1583796] Re: snap tmux not working

2016-08-20 Thread Oliver Grawert
hmm, how did you guys install tmux at all (what snapd version do you
use) ?

ogra@styx:~$ sudo snap install tmux
error: cannot install "tmux": snap not found

ogra@styx:~$ snap --version
snap2.12+0.16.04
snapd 2.12+0.16.04
series 16
ubuntu 16.04

the error looks like tmux is missing the home interface (though i still
wonder how you got it installed)

I'm going to try the purge and install nvidia-364 I found on the web to fix

[Bug 1615294] [NEW] Installer Crashed trying to set up the boot directory

[Bug 1611544] Re: The bundled nvidia-361 driver in Mint 18 crashes on GTX 980 Ti

2016-08-20 Thread juj
I've further noticed that the nvidia-358 drivers are not stable after
all. They do work, but there is a quirk that the system hangs on a black
screen with text cursor blinking at top left when booting up via a cold
boot.

Curiously, inserting Linux Mint 18 installer USB disk, booting to it,
and then choosing Reboot in the live USB menu, removing the USB disk to
boot to Linux Mint 18 does work, and the system does not hang at booting
up to desktop. After that, it is possible to reboot the system as many
times as one wants and it seems to boot up to Mint 18 desktop properly,
but shutting down all power and booting up will hang, and I need to
"jumpstart" the boot again by entering the live environment and
rebooting from there.

Note that this is not related to bootloaders or similar, since after
uninstalling nvidia-358 and falling back to nouveau software drivers,
i.e. typing

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*

in Terminal, the system is able to do cold boots properly.

(Also the graphics card is not faulty, the same system dual boots to
Windows where it works correctly)

[Bug 1606763] Re: Recently, when FF starts up, not all of the restored windows/tabs are the most recent ones.

2016-08-20 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
In doing some research about this, I came across
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1050588
which lead me to
resource:///modules/sessionstore/SessionFile.jsm

I currently have a previous.js (dated 08/16), recovery.bak and recovery.js
(along with some upgrade.js- files that are dated most recently 07/29)
The recovery.xxx files before FF is launched are dated yesterday (08/19) at
what I guess
was around the time I launched it yesterday.
After launch (today, 8/20, about 15:34), the recovery.xxx files changed to
today's date, about 15:35, but subsequently changed again to 15:59, but have
not changed again (now is 17:22).

the resource: file says that:
previous.js is "Updated whenever we successfully load from `clean`"
and that for each of: recovery.js and recovery.bak
"... this file is therefore removed during clean shutdown"

I must therefore conclude that FF is essentially crashing each time it
shuts down, since apparently 08/16.

I do not quite understand:
"  Paths: Object.freeze({
// The path to the latest version of sessionstore written during a clean
// shutdown. After startup, it is renamed `cleanBackup`.
clean: Path.join(profileDir, "sessionstore.js"),
"
as I do not have anything labelled cleanBackup or sessionstore.js anywhere I
have looked...

Once or twice I got the "This is embarrassing" (at which I thought:
"That's funny - FF didn't crash!?!"), but mostly the only difference I
have noted in FF is that when shutting down (File-->Quit) all the tabs
disappear at once, instead of rippling closed from right to left in
maybe 1/2 second(?).

FF is now at 48.0 (48.0+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1), but all else is as originally
reported.

[Bug 1615290] [NEW] Remove mapnik 3.0.12~rc1+ds-1~exp2 from yakkety

2016-08-20 Thread Bas Couwenberg
Public bug reported:

The mapnik family of packages have been synced from Debian experimental
(without coordinating with the maintainers in Debian) because mapnik
3.0.11 doesn't support Boost 1.61.

Now that the DebianImportFreeze has started the final version (which
hasn't been released yet) won't be find its way into the yakkety
release.

Syncing the mapnik packages from Debian experimental was very premature.
In the future, please don't sync packages from experimental unless
explicitly asked to by the maintainers in Debian, or talk to maintainers
in Debian before doing so.

The mapnik family of packages in their current shape should not ship
with yakkety, please remove them before the yakkety release.

In the future, when packages break due to transitions as these, remove
the packages (or move them to proposed) instead of diverging from
Debian. Packages in universe are pretty much unmaintained in Ubuntu, and
removing such packages is preferable over shipping not properly
integrated packages.

Sorry for the multiple posts - gnome-software runs normally from
terminal as described but menu mod does not function correctly.

[Bug 1615223] Re: ubuntu-software will not install or remove apps.

2016-08-20 Thread Lou
I just discovered that running "gksudo gnome-software" in terminal
starts the app normally. Don't know why this should be necessary but I
have changed the menu command accordingly as a workaround.

[Bug 1506847] Re: gnome-screenshot doesn't put the screenshot in clipboard

2016-08-20 Thread Dan Dascalescu
I don't know if this is the same issue, but sometimes trying to paste
the screenshot into Pinta results in an error that the contents of the
clipboard is not a valid image.
