[Bug 1178272] Re: Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report "jack server is not running or cannot be started" and do not play
This is still a problem in Lubuntu 16.04. gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio is installed by default (presumably following Ubuntu), gstreamer1.0-alsa is not. 'sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-alsa' fixes the problem. Gstreamer apps such as banshee now output audio instead of silence. I will file a bug against lubuntu-desktop and reference this bug. ** Also affects: gstreamer1.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report "jack server is not running or cannot be started" and do not play + Lubuntu: banshee, rhythmbox, etc cannot play audio without pulseaudio or gstreamer1.0-alsa -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1178272 Title: Lubuntu: banshee, rhythmbox, etc cannot play audio without pulseaudio or gstreamer1.0-alsa To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/1178272/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1615326] [NEW] volume control UI too sticky (Lubuntu 16.04)
Public bug reported: This bug is regarding the volume control applet/widget/whatever in Lubuntu 16.04 in lxpanel. WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS Upon clicking the volume control icon, a slider pops up. Upon clicking anywhere else on the display, in other windows, in the panel itself, the slider remains visible and on top of most other elements on the display with one notable exception, context menus from other panel applets (or at least the context menu from network connections applet). [Bug 1615184] Re: systemd update breaks screen lock, dpms, startup programs
Reading the associated Debian bug (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=834367), it's a different one from this bug. That bugs refers to issues after running systemctl daemon-reexec (which happens when systemd is upgraded) caused by keypresses being sent to a tty console as well as to the X session, and the workaround is to reboot. This bug occurs with the latest systemd installed even after a reboot, and is not related to the systemd upgrade process. I have certainly seen all those issues when systemd is upgraded (usually one of my monitors turns off, even though it is set to be on; I have seen the keypresses echoed to a tty console; I have had the system reboot on CTRL-ALT-DEL even though I was in an X-session; and I have seen it switch to tty consoles unexpectedly from an X-session). So just to be clear: _this_ bug occurs after any number of reboots with systemd 231-4 installed. It does not occur with systemd 231-1 installed. It does not appear to be related to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=834367. (Really, I would not have reported a bug if I knew there was an upgraded version of the relevant package available.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615184 Title: systemd update breaks screen lock, dpms, startup programs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1615184/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can now rule that possibility out, because I had only just booted, I had not started any other applications, and this computer has LOADS of memory and LOADS of processing power. I noticed that my /run mounted as tmpfs and is 371M and just used 1.5M. There is still plenty of room. My system is installed in the second disk (/dev/sdb1) and boot loader in /dev/sda is the grub. After the installation failed, I can find the vmlinuz and initrd.img are already installed in the /boot. One thing odd is that the driver /lib/modules/ took 192M, while the newly installed /lib/modules/3.16.0-73-generic used 33M and the same size by /lib/modules/3.16.0-76-generic. [Bug 1615305] [NEW] Output when changing comment is weird and badly documented
Public bug reported: Changing a key comment within a private key might not be something you do on a daily basis, but it is mostly a frustrating task, since the documentation is incomplete and wrong. In particular the man page says: -c Requests changing the comment in the private and public key files. This operation is only supported for RSA1 keys and keys stored in the newer OpenSSH format. The program will prompt for the file containing the private keys, for the passphrase if the key has one, and for the new comment. So, one gets the impression that this is not applicable to newer keys. However bug #811125 dealt with this, and there was a commit (see [1]) that added support for basically all key types. In the case of RSA keys one has to use the new key format though (-o), which can only be find out with trial and error and is not documented at all. Furthermore the output of an actual ssh-keygen run is also confusing: [kbabioch@antares .ssh]$ ssh-keygen -c -C "new comment" -f id_rsa -o Enter passphrase: Key now has comment '(null)' The comment in your key file has been changed. The output tells me that the key is now empty (null). However the comment is correctly set, so while this works as intended, it is confusing to the user. Confirmed using Xubuntu 16.04 with the Kokodi theme. (I use this theme to give windows a decently big border to grip for resizing). [Bug 1611544] Re: The bundled nvidia-361 driver in Mint 18 crashes on GTX 980 Ti
I've further noticed that the nvidia-358 drivers are not stable after all. They do work, but there is a quirk that the system hangs on a black screen with text cursor blinking at top left when booting up via a cold boot. Curiously, inserting Linux Mint 18 installer USB disk, booting to it, and then choosing Reboot in the live USB menu, removing the USB disk to boot to Linux Mint 18 does work, and the system does not hang at booting up to desktop. After that, it is possible to reboot the system as many times as one wants and it seems to boot up to Mint 18 desktop properly, but shutting down all power and booting up will hang, and I need to "jumpstart" the boot again by entering the live environment and rebooting from there. Note that this is not related to bootloaders or similar, since after uninstalling nvidia-358 and falling back to nouveau software drivers, i.e. typing sudo apt-get purge nvidia* in Terminal, the system is able to do cold boots properly. (Also the graphics card is not faulty, the same system dual boots to Windows where it works correctly) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611544 Title: The bundled nvidia-361 driver in Mint 18 crashes on GTX 980 Ti To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1611544/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1606763] Re: Recently, when FF starts up, not all of the restored windows/tabs are the most recent ones.
In doing some research about this, I came across https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1050588 which lead me to resource:///modules/sessionstore/SessionFile.jsm I currently have a previous.js (dated 08/16), recovery.bak and recovery.js (along with some upgrade.js- files that are dated most recently 07/29) The recovery.xxx files before FF is launched are dated yesterday (08/19) at what I guess was around the time I launched it yesterday. After launch (today, 8/20, about 15:34), the recovery.xxx files changed to today's date, about 15:35, but subsequently changed again to 15:59, but have not changed again (now is 17:22). the resource: file says that: previous.js is "Updated whenever we successfully load from `clean`" and that for each of: recovery.js and recovery.bak "... this file is therefore removed during clean shutdown" I must therefore conclude that FF is essentially crashing each time it shuts down, since apparently 08/16. I do not quite understand: " Paths: Object.freeze({ // The path to the latest version of sessionstore written during a clean // shutdown. After startup, it is renamed `cleanBackup`. clean: Path.join(profileDir, "sessionstore.js"), " as I do not have anything labelled cleanBackup or sessionstore.js anywhere I have looked... Once or twice I got the "This is embarrassing" (at which I thought: "That's funny - FF didn't crash!?!"), but mostly the only difference I have noted in FF is that when shutting down (File-->Quit) all the tabs disappear at once, instead of rippling closed from right to left in maybe 1/2 second(?). FF is now at 48.0 (48.0+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1), but all else is as originally reported. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1606763 Title: Recently, when FF starts up, not all of the restored windows/tabs are the most recent ones. Public bug reported: The mapnik family of packages have been synced from Debian experimental (without coordinating with the maintainers in Debian) because mapnik 3.0.11 doesn't support Boost 1.61. Now that the DebianImportFreeze has started the final version (which hasn't been released yet) won't be find its way into the yakkety release. Syncing the mapnik packages from Debian experimental was very premature. In the future, please don't sync packages from experimental unless explicitly asked to by the maintainers in Debian, or talk to maintainers in Debian before doing so. The mapnik family of packages in their current shape should not ship with yakkety, please remove them before the yakkety release. In the future, when packages break due to transitions as these, remove the packages (or move them to proposed) instead of diverging from Debian.
