Please run this command in your terminal:

sudo apt install gnome-control-center-data/yakkety

In the future, please ppa-purge all of your PPAs before upgrading to a
new Ubuntu release.

This was in the attached Dependencies.txt:
gnome-control-center 1:3.20.1-2ubuntu1
gnome-control-center-data 1:3.20.1-2ubuntu2~xenial1 [origin: unknown]

I should upload a newer version of gnome-control-center to yakkety

[Bug 1628553] Re: Ubuntu 16.04.1 Install zfsutils-linux Panic Error, endless loop

2016-09-29 Thread Richard Laager
I think I got the numbers right, but in any case, this is the gist of the error:
PANIC: blkptr at 88040b993640 DVA 1 has invalid OFFSET 36830022909049856

What was the last version of ZFS-on-Linux (that you were using) that
works?

Was that the only version of ZFS you had ever used?

Can you attach the output of:
sudo zpool status
sudo zpool upgrade
sudo zdb

I assume you have swap on ZFS and this is breaking when it tries to access the
swap dataset? If so, can you provide this output (substitute for rpool/swap as
appropriate), which you should probably compress:
sudo zdb -d rpool/swap

I'm not sure that'll be enough information (as I'm not expert enough to
debug at this level), but it should be a start for me to take this to
someone else.

If it is happening with swap, try moving the swap dataset out of the way, and
create a new one:
sudo zfs move rpool/swap rpool/swap-broken
sudo zfs create -V 4G -b $(getconf PAGESIZE) -o compression=zle \
  -o logbias=throughput -o sync=always \
  -o primarycache=metadata -o secondarycache=none \
  -o com.sun:auto-snapshot=false rpool/swap
sudo mkswap -f /dev/zvol/rpool/swap

This will hopefully get you working again on the latest ZFS. If you keep
the old dataset around, then we may still be able to debug how this
happened.

[Bug 1617849] Re: latest system update broke fglrx video drivers, so no more 3d video acceleration

2016-09-29 Thread Rob
I'm afraid I cannot include the output requested, because I have since
replaced the 14.04 LTS installation that this bug affected with a 16.04
LTS install.

I had been under the mistaken understanding that Catalyst drivers /
fglrx were necessary for my use case, which is why I had installed 14.04
LTS. I have since learned that the Mesa 10.1 version in the 14.04 LTS
release is is about 2 years old, and the OpenGL drivers were not quite
usable. However the OpenGL driver version in 16.04 LTS, which I have
since installed, is perfectly suitable for my use case, and appears to
outperform fglrx.

I suspect that the 14.04 LTS upgrade that deprecated fglrx was related
to fglrx's incompatibility with an X and/or kernel update. While 14.04's
OpenGL drivers are not suitable for my video card, those in 16.04 more
than suffice.

In other words, the fix to this 'bug' seemed to be to update/upgrade to
Ubuntu 16.04.

[Bug 1608934] Re: ephemeral/swap disk creation fails for local storage with image type raw/lvm

2016-09-29 Thread OpenStack Infra
Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/368216

https://git.openstack.org/cgit/openstack/nova/commit/?id=9146f9d602ae1ee64cd8ccbf6fc371bc3fb36395

commit 9146f9d602ae1ee64cd8ccbf6fc371bc3fb36395
Author: Jens Rosenboom
Date: Mon Aug 15 13:16:58 2016 +0200

Fix resizing in imagebackend.cache()

The Raw and Lvm backends do not create a 'base image' (the file in the
image cache) when creating an ephemeral or swap disk. However, cache()
expects it to exist when checking if a resize is required.

This change ignores the resize check if the backing file doesn't exist.
This happens to be ok, because ephemeral and swap disks are always
created with the correct target size anyway, and therefore never need
to be resized.

NOTE(mriedem): There is a slight change in the commit message and
test since the Raw image backend was renamed to Flat in Newton. Since
Flat didn't exist in Mitaka it's better to use Raw here.

[Bug 1629145] Re: Fix CVE-2016-7787

2016-09-29 Thread Simon Quigley
Hey Seth,

I can confirm that this package does build correctly. I built it
locally.

As for testing, the instructions for reproducing this CVE are not
entirely clear (I don't know what "specially crafted" command they are
referring to, it could be a lot of things). Again, I'm new to this
process and I'm not a security expert of any kind.

This package installs successfully on a fresh, fully updated Kubuntu
16.04 install with no problems.

[Bug 1615474] Re: Network Indicator / Connectivity-API is not accessible

2016-09-29 Thread JoeNazz
Today I had the same issue. A have got OTA-13. A few days ago disk went
full and many creepy behaviours occurred. So I tidied up and all was
okay. Today my phablet had shutted off because of very low battery.
After charging a while I booted the phone and indicator-network was away
like these bug. I ran

mv .config/connectivity-service .config/connectivity-service_2016-09-30

to remove the config like in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/indicator-network/+bug/1627953 but preserving a backup.

Instantly WiFi cames up and after a few seconds also both SIM cards. But
the labels of both SIM cards were missing. I rebooted and everything
seems fine now.

Here is a diff:

[Bug 1627608] Re: resize2fs crashed with SIGSEGV in ext2fs_extent_translate()

2016-09-29 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
This bug was fixed in the package e2fsprogs - 1.43.3-1

---
e2fsprogs (1.43.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Fix e2fsck's handling of timestamps on 32-bit system (Closes: #836559)
  * E2fsck will sanity check and repair the extra isize fields in inodes
and the superblock.
  * Fix sparc64 crashes when dereferencing unaligned integers in journal
blocks when metdata checksums are enabled.

 -- Theodore Y. Ts'o Sun, 04 Sep 2016 20:41:21 -0400

e2fsprogs (1.43.2-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Fix build reproducibility problems
  * Don't hide the linker flags for e2fsck.static

 -- Theodore Y. Ts'o Thu, 01 Sep 2016 23:30:55 -0400

e2fsprogs (1.43.2-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Change the default journal size to be larger for file systems larger
than 128 GB to improve performance on metadata-heavy workloads
  * Clarify tune2fs's message when the user needs to run e2fsck
(Closes: #828022)
  * Fix an alignment bug in e2fsck which caused sparc64 architectures to
crash when replaying the journal on file systems with a 64-bit block
number
  * Fix a typo in debugfs when printing out the dtime field on file
systems with an extended timestamp
  * Fix the logic in e2fsck which decides when to repair legacy negative
timestamp encodings.
  * Add a command to debugfs to copy the inode structure from one inode
to another
  * Fix resize2fs so it will not crash if there is an extended
attribute block but it doesn't need to migate any blocks during
an off-line resize
  * Fix a crash when mke2fs or debugfs tries to copy in a directory
hierarchy containing an empty directory
  * Fix a bug in e2fsck caused by a power failure during e2fsck's journal
replay could leave the file system in a state where if the file
system is mounted without doing a full e2fsck scan, the file system
could get corrupted
  * Fix big endian bugs in the e2undo program
  * Fix debugfs's logdump so command so it can correctly handle journals
which are larger than 2GB
  * Add new translations: Hugarian and Serbian
  * Update the Catalan, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Polish,
Swedish, Ukrainian translations

[Bug 1628351] Re: PNG loading degraded

2016-09-29 Thread Aaron Griffith
This bug appears to have been introduced with `pillow-
CVE-2014-9601.patch` as part of `2.3.0-1ubuntu3.2`.

This patch was sourced (at least partially) from this Pillow commit:

https://github.com/python-
pillow/Pillow/commit/0b75526ffe41a4697231beb8b5740617c98f290b

However, this commit occurs after an earlier commit that changes all
instances of `len` to `length`, to prevent shadowing:

https://github.com/python-
pillow/Pillow/commit/d594c0241aabeda6725fefc44ccc7f945c0464c9

As such, it crashes whenever you try to read any PNG with a text chunk.
Since this is specifically the use-case the CVE patch was designed for,
I find it surprising that apparently nobody tested it.

I have created and attached a patch for `2.3.0-1ubuntu3.2` that works on
the PNG's I've tried. Instead of renaming all instances of `len`, it
just does the minimal changes needed to get this to work. It's up to you
guys whether you'd rather follow upstream or not, but please fix this
fast, because this is a pretty serious bug.

** CVE added: http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi-
bin/cvename.cgi?name=2014-9601

** Attachment added: "fix for text chunk loading"

Larry,

Can you discontinue accessing MAAS over port 80 and start accessing it
through port 5240? And see if you have issues.

Apache does a bad job proxying!

[Bug 1629145] Re: Fix CVE-2016-7787

2016-09-29 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks Simon, the patch looks good; I changed the debian/changelog to
match our usual style:

  * SECURITY UPDATE: kdesu may show a different string than it would execute
with elevated privileges. (LP: #1629145)
- debian/patches/01-patch-kde-CVE-2016-7787.diff
- CVE-2016-7787

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update_the_packaging

Can you confirm that you've built and tested this package?

Thanks

[Bug 1629118] Re: lxd init should set compression=lz4 on ZFS

2016-09-29 Thread Richard Laager
Right, because these are *containers*, so it's a filesystem tree, not a
single device. I'm so used to full VMs.

So this all sounds great and fixed. Sorry for the noise!

[Bug 1629150] [NEW] background process apport routinely using 100% CPU

2016-09-29 Thread themusicgod1

process that takes up 100% cpu (

)...that apport begins to run at 100% cpu for an indeterminate
time(after awhile of heating up my computer, I typically kill -9 it).

[Bug 1629118] Re: lxd init should set compression=lz4 on ZFS

2016-09-29 Thread Stéphane Graber
LXD itself doesn't care about the atime, though we could potentially use
it to reduce overhead to figure out the last time some resource was used
(rather than track in our database).

But where it matters is for the container itself. Some workloads do care
about atime, such as file servers, file indexing services, some
databases, ... and we have no idea what the user is going to use the
container for, so just turning it off isn't really an option.

the approach to rename the utilities during the debian/rules "build"
target before you get to the dh_install invocation.

Richard Laager, feel free to resubmit the patch that you did, otherwise

[Bug 1475094] Re: Warning because an already existing user is tried to be created

2016-09-29 Thread WinEunuchs2Unix
Noticed this error for the first time today running `sudo apt upgrade`.
Also for the first time (single user account laptop) had to sign on to
console (ctrl+alt+F1) and (ctrl+alt+f2) because Ubuntu 16.04 login
screen wasn't working due to activating Nvidia 367.44 driver in
`Additional Drivers` screen.

Signing into console was necessary for the first time ever in order to
restore Intel integrated graphics and using the system normally.

[Bug 1602577] Re: [arm64] compute nodes unstable after upgrading from 4.2 to 4.4 kernel

2016-09-29 Thread William Grant
(For those playing at home, the boot failure in comment #25 was because
the m400 firmware preloads the dtb at 0x400300, which was clobbered
by the >16MiB kernel. The latest 4.8 builds are gzipped, so they're
short enough to leave it intact.)

[Bug 1629138] [NEW] Unity launcher doesn't recognize gnome-terminal processes as connected with launcher

2016-09-29 Thread Max Bowsher
Public bug reported:

On current yakkety:

* Open the dash
* Search for the Terminal application (gnome-terminal)
* Drag-drop it to the launcher
* Click the newly added application launcher

Observe that a gnome-terminal window opens, but rather than the
application launcher having a steady illuminated background to indicate
there is a running instance, it continues to pulse until it times out.
Additionally, a *second* gnome-terminal icon appears at the bottom of
the unity launcher, where ephemeral applications not locked to the
launcher live.

I tested this in a clean newly created user account - still occurs.

Attached is the debdiff, from Debian's network-manager-openvpn_1.2.4-1.
It's no different than comparing with the 1.1.93-1ubuntu1 except
refreshed the patch, but avoids the diffs from upstream source.

[Bug 1629131] [NEW] Unable to use 'filething' to open files in mutagen.mp3.MP3

2016-09-29 Thread Simon Lambourn
Public bug reported:

Hi, I have been trying to 'override' the file open parameters in the
MP3 module to improve scan performance of a large music library, using
python3-mutagen.

I can't get the supplied example to work: I get the following output:

$ python3 fileobj-gio.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "fileobj-gio.py", line 130, in
print(mutagen.File(mutagen_file).pprint())
File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/mutagen/_file.py", line 239, in File
with open(filename, "rb") as fileobj:
TypeError: invalid file: <__main__.GioMutagenFile object at 0x7f204fba4be0>

Looking through the code I can't see how it would treat a 'file-like
object' any differently: it seems that open(filename,"rb") will always
be called.

What I want to achieve is to understand if different buffering would
improve elapsed time to scan large numbers of files. I was hoping to
open the file first using different buffering parameter and pass a file-
object to MP3, but the only documented way of doing this using open() is
by passing the fileno() attribute of an already open file, which also
fails on the open statement:

m=MP3(f.fileno())
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/mutagen/_file.py", line 42, in __init__
self.load(filename, *args, **kwargs)
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/mutagen/id3/__init__.py", line 1092, in
load
with open(filename, "rb") as fileobj:
OSError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor

Any advice would be most welcome on either how to fix the bug or other
ways to improve scan performance. Thanks for your help.
