2016-10-30 Thread Jeremy Bicha
So the first issue is it's looking for a file that isn't the way mk-
sbuild names it by default so…

sudo mv /etc/schroot/chroot.d/sbuild-sid-amd64 sudo mv

but then I get this error:

[Bug 1637909] [NEW] "Details" section of download/install window chopped off

2016-10-30 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

Since installing Lubuntu 16.10, I have noticed that the "Details" section of the
window that opens to show that packages are being downloaded or installed is
chopped off.

I believe it is the case for both the downloading and the installing, but I was
only
quick enough today to screenshot the installing portion of the output.

The detail area shown is only about 1 line in height. (see 1st screenshot)
If one Maximizes the window, only half of the window is used. (see 2nd
screenshot)

Which config do you mean here? The default netplan config is in
ubuntu-core-config now (it should really be in the core snap's
configuration, i think, so gadgets can customize it but I'm not sure what
the status is there) and indeed this gets turned into networkd config very
very early in boot.

Which config do you mean here?

So what you are saying is that when you run console-conf, it edits the
netplan config but networkd is still running with the old config?

could it be that netplan apply does only actually apply when running

I can't see how that would be possible (at least now console-conf doesn't
set umask...)

[Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB

2016-10-30 Thread Julie Brandon
Seeing the same problem since upgrading from 15.10 to 16.04.

The vm.dirty workarounds and disabling swap don't make a difference.

Once this problem kicks in ALL disk writes become stupidly slow (2MB/s)
until next reboot on both SSD and spinning HDD.

i5-4460/16Gb RAM/ASUS Z97-K

This is an enormous problem not to have at least been assigned to
someone!

[Bug 1624997] Re: live-migration fails because of " Host key verification failed"

2016-10-30 Thread KC
Below configurations have been used to work around the problem:

1. Edit /etc/nova/nova.conf on nova nodes which participate in the live
migration:

[libvirt]
rbd_user =
rbd_secret_uuid =
#live_migration_uri = qemu+ssh://%s/system
live_migration_uri = qemu+tcp://%s/system

# Disable tunnelled migration so that selective
# live block migration can be supported.
live_migration_tunnelled = True

iscsi_use_multipath = True

2. Edit /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf:
listen_tcp = 1
listen_addr = "0.0.0.0"
auth_tcp = "none"

3. Restart nova-compute and libvirt:
# service libvirt-bin restart
# service nova-compute restart

Meanwhile, such modifications won't work if you are using Ubuntu with
kernel 3.x like 3.13.0-100-generic I previously used - it seems there is
a kernel bug underground. Latest kernel 4.4.0-45-generic work well with
above mentioned configurations.

[Bug 1610929] Re: Implement Screen::GetShellMode()

2016-10-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Mir has no knowledge of stages. That is a concept which exists at the
higher level in Unity8. However Mir's form factor enumeration would
probably need a new entry still. And an API for Unity8 to set it.

Before we go wedging something called "staged" into Mir though, please
try to consider a generalised approach that is a superset of the Unity8
design. Since Mir should support other shells. What we call "staged"
might be called "tiled" in Mir for example.

So we need a design, but before that we need to be more confident that
any change in Mir is really required at all.

[Bug 1637899] [NEW] installer crashes on usb devce plug and unplug

2016-10-30 Thread james
Public bug reported:

summary: while updating ubuntu gnome 16.04.1 to 17.04 when usb device is
unplugged then plugged back in it crashes.

str:
1.) install ubuntu 16.04.1
2.) boot 17.04 installer from flash drive and have usb device plugged in (i had
a sony xperia)
3.) while copying files unplug device and plug back in
4.) observe console outputs

expected results: device does not majorly impact install, and installed
keeps running as should.

actual results: console output specifies that device has been unplugged
and keeps trying to find it and cant seem to, eventually installer
crashes

impact: low, small chances of user repo.

repro rate: needed

(this bug may be invalid but due to console output it seems to be caused
by usb device but unsure)

[Bug 1628478] Re: Mir servers crash when using the Nvidia driver

2016-10-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm glad you're paying attention, but that's probably an incorrect
conclusion.

I only moved that bug from 0.26 to 0.25 because it was alone in a hidden
future milestone and wanted it to be more visible with all our other
current work. That does not mean it will all be done in time for 0.25.
Some of the items in 0.25 right now will (again) move to 0.26.

[Bug 1637536] Re: support setting non-supported modes (resolution)

2016-10-30 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
OK, there's a design discussion to be had here.

In these cases, mirout is correct - your display has exactly one mode it
can be driven at. X adds a whole bunch of fake “standard” modes, but
they're just that - fake. Selecting one of the fake modes does not
change the video mode; instead, it scales the rendering up to the
monitor's mode.

What is the user requirement here?

I'd prefer the Mir API to accurately reflect the capabilities of the
system, but one of those capabilities is that we can scale content. If
the user-requirement is “I'd like everything on my screen to look
bigger”, we can do that.

Indeed, this seems to be the Apple approach - https://support.apple.com
/en-au/HT202471 - there's the “optimal resolution” button, and then the
“make everything larger or smaller” option.

[Bug 998097] Re: Grub2 not recognise GPT when presence hybrid MBR

2016-10-30 Thread Grief
Look here: http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?28149
"GRUB2 supports hybrid GPT. It has even a tool gptsync for manipulating MBR of
hybrid GPT. However Hybrid GPT has to have protective entry in MBR as its first
entry and I see no reason to break this rule, especially that hybrid GPT is
just a kludge for legacy systems and often is worse as either GPT or MSDOS. So
your partition table is just invalid. Contact the developpers of whatever tool
created it and say that protective entry has to be the first one"

[Bug 1637879] Re: package intel-microcode 3.20151106.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

Read-only boot media is (currently?) unsupportable by anything that
needs to update the initramfs... such as intel-microcode.

I have no idea what can be done about this bug, but everything is
working as it is supposed to: you have a read-only partition, the system
cannot write to it and fails.

All I know is that intel-microcode is never going to fix this issue.
Creating live-cds that can have their kernels and initramfs updated is
the business of whatever creates live-cds... and only possible if the
live system is in read-write media in the first place.

I should add that this issue occurs on the latest Ubuntu and Kubuntu

2016-10-30 Thread Jean
Hello,

Back to this bug not totally resolved.
I am using this solution https://github.com/kuba-moo/mt7630e
It is working fine for Wifi with Debian Jessie, working partially for BT (I can
send files, but cannot keep a connection).
Owner of a new BT headphone, I tried to connect it unsuccessfully.
I tried the new solution alledgedly fixing the BT issue
https://github.com/neurobin/MT7630E, the "bpatch" included, whithout success
Here is the result of "systemctl status bluetooth" command.

Has anyone an idea ? Has anyone different BT devices fully connected
with the mt7630 and how did he get it ?

Thanks very much for answers.

Jean

2016-10-30 Thread KINGSABRI
I have almost the same issue except the dim starts working after 20
seconds. I tried many solutions

Kubuntu 16.04 64-bit

1. Using GUI:
1.1. System Settings >> Energy Saving >> Uncheck Dim screen
1.2. System Settings >> Energy Saving >> Dim screen (360 min)
1.3. Disabling Power Management service: System Settings >> Autostart >>
Background Services >> Uncheck Power Management

2. Using command line
2.1. Installing xscreensaver and configure the screensaver duration for longer
period or disable it
2.2. xset s off
2.3. xset s noblank -dpms
2.4. Add the following to ~/.kde/share/config/powermanagementprofilesrc
[Battery][RunScript]
idleTime=6
scriptCommand=/usr/local/bin/batgoverner
scriptPhase=0

[Battery][SuspendSession]
idleTime=360
suspendType=2

[LowBattery]
icon=battery-low

[LowBattery][BrightnessControl]
value=30

[LowBattery][DPMSControl]
idleTime=120

[LowBattery][DimDisplay]
idleTime=6

[LowBattery][HandleButtonEvents]
lidAction=1
powerButtonAction=2

I saw poeple complain this issue since 2013!

[Bug 1211110] Re: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses

2016-10-30 Thread George Velimachitis
I managed to get OpenVPN working from within Network-Manager using the
following setup

1. Setup your OpenVPN connection in Network Manager using "Network Connections
/ Add / OpenVPN"
2. Create a new LAN/WLAN connection e.g. "LAN VPN"
3. In "General" Tab set "automatically connect to VPN" and select the OpenVPN
entry
4. In "IPv4" tab set "DHCP Address only" and set DNS address of the VPN
provider manually
5. Save and test

You should be able to select "LAN VPN" connection which will kick-off
the OpenVPN which will then make use of the DNS entry that is manually
provided.

So you indirectly activate the VPN connection which also gives you no
DNS leaks.

PS: In /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf I had to comment out the
dns=dnsmasq entry.

Thanks for the suggestion (and for your work upstream!).

I had a look at lirc-remotes, and it already has what I consider the
correct fix, namely, to change the key code to KEY_PLAYPAUSE.

If when I get this version of lirc on my machine I still have my MCE
remote, and it still doesn't work in Kodi, I suspect it will be time to
chase the bug there instead.

[Bug 1522922] Re: Screen flickering in Intel i915 driver

2016-10-30 Thread kecsap
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1554613 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1554613

@John Smith: I have two older laptops with Intel chips, one Westmere and
one Ivy Bridge architecture. Only one solution fixed the screen flickers
on both laptop, installing the drm-intel-nightly kernel:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-nightly/current/

I use this suggested config for Xorg, but I don't think it has any
effect:

Section "Device"
   Identifier  "Intel Graphics"
   Driver  "intel"
   Option  "AccelMethod"  "sna"
   Option  "TearFree""true"
   Option  "DRI""3"
EndSection

I tried many kernels versions, tinkering with the Xorg configm, but the
nightly kernel was the real cure to use the intel driver in Xorg on my
laptops.

[Bug 1635023] Re: Regression: quotas prevent yakkety from booting (boots once every ~4 attempts)

2016-10-30 Thread Sergio Callegari
Sorry, I'm not understanding your comment.

What I understood is that the systemd developers said "It is not our
responsibility if ubuntu does not boot, this is not a systemd bug! In
fact, the issue in booting is caused by some quota related units,
shipped by Ubuntu, that are not part of systemd". Then, I saw that the
faulty systemd units are shipped with the "quota" package, just as you
say. Yet, the upstream quota package does not contain these units. The
systemd quota related units and scripts are a downstream ubuntu (maybe
from debian) addition (in fact, they live in the debian dir of the
package).

This is why I was reporting that the systemd developers suggest that
this is a downstream bug (a bug in the Ubuntu distro), not an upstream
bug (a bug in systemd 231).

I never implied that ubuntu forgot to ship some units. I'm only saying
that the quota units shipped with ubuntu evidently mistake something,
because when they are masked the system boots, otherwise it doesn't.

Possibly, the issue is only triggered if one has quotas+lvm2+fake or
soft raid. This may explain why the mistake got unnoticed when it
slipped in.

I suppose that this bug should be fixed by the maintainers of the quota
package in ubuntu, possibly with the help of the systemd maintainers.

** Package changed: systemd (Ubuntu) => quota (Ubuntu)

2016-10-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Giraffe, it was noticed that your linux version isn't the default from
the Ubuntu repositories. Could you please advise if this affects the
default configuration also?

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)

And I rebooted.

As you can see in the lines above, in the mean time I installed
'brightness-controller' which is working fine. And even after the reboot
still nothing changed (Setting and keys).

Also I attached a screenshot of the Brightness Setting.

Thanks for your help

[Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start

2016-10-30 Thread welch
Also experiencing this problem, on a pristine install of ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
(4.4.0-45-generic #66-Ubuntu SMP, BlueZ version 5.37) onto a NUC6i5SYH.

I am doing nothing on the box, just setting it up.
The only packages I've installed are for sshd and bluez.

First run of the bluetooth service worked (well, discovery
worked, though I was unable to successfully connect to
the discovered lenovo edge keyboard).

After reboot, bluetooth service is failing same as others report:

[Bug 1522922] Re: Screen flickering in Intel i915 driver

2016-10-30 Thread John Smith
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1554613 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1554613

I'm having this same issue on a Dell 7537 running Ubuntu 16.10 (kernel
4.8).

The flickering that occurs is a rapid change in the brightness of the screen,
in a random, persistently manner (it never stops).
Not so often the screen goes all white and quickly returns to normal.

It's interesting to mention that on Ubuntu 16.04 (kernel 4.4) the bug
appears to be fixed, as the flickering does not occur.
