[Bug 175316] Re: no IDN in nslookup and host

2016-11-27 Thread Pavel
This should be changed to support for IDN in bind9 packages and iputils
packages, especially dnsutils and iputils-ping packages. The IDN support
nowadays are mandatory. Almost every major GNU/Linux distro currently
supports IDN in ping/dig/nslookup/etc from the box.

2016-11-27 Thread VinDSL
Kernel 4.9-rc7 fixed it  !!!

I waited until the Ubu Mainline kernel was available, just to make sure.

@Daniele Viganò, thanks for all the effort(s) you went to, over in the
mailing lists and bugzilla, to make this happen.

Good job !

[Bug 1642068] Re: snapd memory sizes grows huge over time

2016-11-27 Thread babak
I am having the same issue. The /usr/lib/snapd/snapd memory usage grows
very large and never releases. Here is what my application does:

1) In runtime attach volumes to the ubuntu server using the OpenStack cinder
2) run FIO test on each volume every 30 seconds
3) randomly detach volumes

the snapd grows too large that I get "[Errno 12] Cannot allocate memory"
trying to run any application (even pkill) so the only option is
rebooting the system. Even when I stop my application, the memory won't
release unless reboot.

I am using FIO version: fio-2.2.10

Below is my ubuntu version (its 32 bit):
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename:   xenial

Linux vm-1 4.4.0-47-generic #68-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 26 19:39:59 UTC 2016 i686

[Bug 1616422] Re: [trusty SRU/FFE] Add systemd binary package for snapd

2016-11-27 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Oh OK!

As this bug was tagged with "verification-needed-trusty", I thought this
one needs to be tested with Trusty 3.13 kernel.

Today I tried with 14.04.5 server image with the proposed
4.4.0-49-generic #70 hwe kernel. It works.

The apparmor error is a good hint, the apparmor package needs to be
installed before installing the hello-world snap.

[Bug 1645048] Re: nbd-client when started from initramfs (for diskless boot) is not persistent

2016-11-27 Thread Victor Stanescu
** Description changed:

  When nbd-client is started from initramfs (during the process of a
  diskless boot), in order to provide the root filesystem, it is not
  persistent. This is because nbd-client is started before run-init, and
  later it is not able to find /dev/nbd0 and /sys/block/nbd0/pid anymore
  because run-init deleted them.

  The nbd scripts for initramfs starts the nbd-client like this:

  @sbin/nbd-client NBD_SERVER_IP -N root /dev/nbd0 -swap -persist
  -systemd-mark

  The -persist option should allow the nbd-client to reconnect if the tcp
  session is lost.

  Here is a sequence of steps to observe the behaviour;

  1. The system is booted ok. nbd-client is active:
  root   359  0.2  0.2   4372  2212 ?SL   11:16   0:00
@sbin/nbd-client 10.4.104.4 -N root /dev/nbd0 -swap -persist -systemd-mark
  root   362  0.0  0.0  0 0 ?S<   11:16   0:00 [nbd0]

  /dev/nbd0 exists:
  brw-rw 1 root disk 43, 0 Nov 24 09:19 /dev/nbd0

  and the nbd-client process uses it:
  root@host:~# ls -l /proc/359/fd/
  total 0
  lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Nov 24 09:20 0 -> /dev/null
  lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Nov 24 09:20 1 -> /dev/console (deleted)
  lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Nov 24 09:20 2 -> /dev/console (deleted)
  lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Nov 24 09:20 3 -> socket:[9447]
  lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Nov 24 09:20 4 -> /dev/nbd0

  2. If I restart the nbd-server, the nbd-client dies/exits. The only way
  to know what is happening is to strace the nbd-client. This generates a
  side effect: when strace is attached, the ioctl exits and nbd-client
  tries to reconnect and dies. So by just stracing the nbd-client, i
  simulate/force a disconnect/reconnect without any need to restart nbd-
  server. My guess is that when i restart the nbd-server, the same happens
  (but I just cannot see it). Please observe the behavior:

  root@host:~# strace -p 359
  strace: Process 359 attached
  getpid()= 359
  write(2, "nbd,359: Kernel call returned: 1"..., 34) = 34
  close(3)= 0
  close(4)= 0
  write(2, " Reconnecting\n", 14) = 14
  socket(PF_NETLINK, SOCK_RAW, NETLINK_ROUTE) = 3
  bind(3, {sa_family=AF_NETLINK, pid=0, groups=}, 12) = 0
  getsockname(3, {sa_family=AF_NETLINK, pid=359, groups=}, [12]) = 0

msg_iov(1)=[{"\24\0\0\0\3\0\2\0Y\2606Xg\1\0\0\0\0\0\0", 4096}],
msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, 0) = 20
  close(3)= 0
  socket(PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP) = 3
  connect(3, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(10809),
sin_addr=inet_addr("10.4.104.4")}, 16) = 0
  setsockopt(3, SOL_TCP, TCP_NODELAY, [1], 4) = 0

  ! this is the problem:
  open("/dev/nbd0", O_RDWR)   = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)

  open("/etc/localtime", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
  socket(PF_LOCAL, SOCK_DGRAM|SOCK_CLOEXEC, 0) = 4
  connect(4, {sa_family=AF_LOCAL, sun_path="/dev/log"}, 110) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
  close(4)= 0
  socket(PF_LOCAL, SOCK_DGRAM|SOCK_CLOEXEC, 0) = 4
  connect(4, {sa_family=AF_LOCAL, sun_path="/dev/log"}, 110) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
  close(4)= 0
  write(2, "Error: Cannot open NBD: No such "..., 59) = 59
  exit_group(1)   = ?
  +++ exited with 1 +++

  3. Now, if I have cached the /sbin/nbd-client file before doing the strace
(by doing a cat /sbin/nbd-client > /dev/null), i can restart it again:
  root@host:~# /sbin/nbd-client 10.4.104.4 -N root /dev/nbd0 -swap -persist
-systemd-mark
  Negotiation: ..size = 32765MB
  bs=1024, sz=34357604352 bytes

  4. If I strace the newly launched nbd-client, strace will cause a
  disconnect, as above, but this time the nbd-client will be able to open
  /dev/nbd0 again so it will not die:

  strace: Process 1851 attached
  write(2, "nbd,1851: Kernel call returned: "..., 35) = 35
  close(3)= 0
  close(4)= 0
  write(2, " Reconnecting\n", 14) = 14
  socket(PF_NETLINK, SOCK_RAW, NETLINK_ROUTE) = 3
  bind(3, {sa_family=AF_NETLINK, pid=0, groups=}, 12) = 0
  getsockname(3, {sa_family=AF_NETLINK, pid=1851,

[Bug 1643581] Re: mtu size - auto setting for wifi not loads some webpages initially

2016-11-27 Thread Oppili
Changed wifi settings to automatic mtu and uploading again apport

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Description changed:

  Webpages like economictimes.indiatimes.com , opening of inner links in
  ndtv.com , at times dinamalar.com etc.,. did not open and mostly
  resulted in request time out. It opened after 10 or 15 minutes gap when
  refreshed. Changing the dns in netgear wifi modem to google dns,
  verisign dns, open dns or auto obtain dns did not solve the problem.

  Atlast found out that Wifi Network MTU size Auto as default was causing
  this request time out.

  Now after putting a MTU size value manually for wifi network lower than
  the MTU size value configured in wifi modem, all the above webpages
  opens.

  Presently using Ubuntu 16.10

  Kindly make auto MTU size setting for wifi network to first probe mtu
  size of wifi modem and set a slightly lower value thant that as MTU.

  Reporting this to make Ubuntu user friendly even for newbies.

  I am using Ubuntu for more than 6 years.

[Bug 1645048] Re: nbd-client when started from initramfs (for diskless boot) is not persistent

2016-11-27 Thread Victor Stanescu
Here is an updated patch version, which:

a) doesn't mount /dev anymore; just recreates the nbd device with mknod
b) mounts /sys only for a second at reconnecting, in order to get the PID of
the nbd kernel process,then umounts it back, so it will not hold it mounted.

** Patch added: "improvement of the original patch: doesn't keep /dev/ and /sys
mounted twice"

Re: [Bug 1590844] Re: Bluetooth headset not working with Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition

2016-11-27 Thread Seth
I agree. This is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. I've tried the
latest Meizu Android firmware as a system.img without success. I believe
this is a Bluez issue with 15.04 however the lack of feedback is
concerning.
We need to prioritize this.

[Bug 1645186] Re: HUD service memory leak (ubuntu 16.04)

2016-11-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1645186/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

It's worth nothing that LTS doesn't stand for "Long Term Stable" as you
seem to think, but instead "Long Term Support". Further, I'm unsure
where the restricted repository stands in terms of support as it's my
understanding that main is the only repository that is supported by
Canonical.

Also, closing the Mythbuntu task as it's no longer being developed.

2016-11-27 Thread afalout
Initially, would not believe this 2 year old bug would still be present
in Xenial repos. But it is. Meaning there are a lot of Canon owners
around the world being quite unhappy, and not of them technical enough
to find this. Who is in charge here? Can this please be escalated?

Large or very frequent memory leak, realized of it when my system

more than half of my 16 GB of RAM). The HUD service had 13 GB of the

[Bug 1639215] Re: After upgrade of Nvidia 304 drivers, mythfrontend.real crashed with SIGSEGV in QGLFormat::openGLVersionFlags()

2016-11-27 Thread Mystica555
Is anyone in "Stable" going to revert to the older, working, version?
Were there specific security fixes in this newer version you are attempting to
keep track of?

When "long term stable" becomes "crashy" someone may need to rethink the
use of the word "stable" - "Constant ABI" may be the preferable term.

This also affects trusty and makes it impossible for some users to
transfer files over usb on newer phones. Just patching in the upstream

(4a9e6046319ad834b924031d74f50e58b88d7d84) seems to work fine. It
applies cleanly, builds cleanly, and appears to work. If I provide a
debdiff for that is that the kind of thing we could bring to trusty-
updates?

[Bug 1312236] Re: No dvorak layout option

2016-11-27 Thread John Schroeder
@iamsylvie, I have a device that I can test on. However, I am not able
to build the ubuntu-keyboard project at this time on Ubuntu 16.04. (I
might be able to with a VM of with 15.04.)

I think the special characters could either stay where they are or do
the same move from a full-sized keyboard to dvorak layout (e.g. '[' to
'/' and ']' to '=').
