Kernel 4.4.0-53, the latest kernel update, flowed in today.
This kernel also exhibits the keyboard and screen-top illuminators bug.

Booting the last 3.x kernel, 3.19.0-77, makes the illuminators to work

[Bug 1635206] Re: snap find with empty query returns error

2016-12-05 Thread Michael Vogt
Thanks for your bugreport.

What version of snapd do you have installed?
$ apt list snapd
will have the details. I suspect that this is because the version of snapd
(2.18) that contains this feature has not landed everyhwere yet. It will be
shortly. At some point in the past `snap find` would also accept empty querries
and return a random collection of 100 items from the store. We no longer do
that in current snapd.

[Bug 1646354] Re: package tftpd-hpa (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: подпроцесс установлен сценарий post-installation возвратил код ошибки 1

2016-12-05 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi and thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to
make Ubuntu better.

>From the log it seems that the config is modified in an incompatible way:
дек 01 08:54:21 hostname tftpd[939]: unknown option -?
дек 01 08:54:21 hostname systemd[1]: Failed to start LSB: HPA's tftp server.
дек 01 08:54:21 hostname systemd[1]: tftpd-hpa.service: Failed with result
'exit-code'.

I can't read most of the rest but that is what is killing tftp-hpa on
the restart that is triggered after the upgrade.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1646686] Re: package squid3 3.3.8-1ubuntu6.8 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2016-12-05 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

I see that you deleted your squid config file:
postinst: cannot open /etc/squid3/squid.conf: No such file
That also can be seen in:
UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2016-12-01 (0 days ago)
modified.conffile..etc.squid3.errorpage.css: [deleted]
modified.conffile..etc.squid3.msntauth.conf: [deleted]
modified.conffile..etc.squid3.squid.conf: [deleted]

Without these the service can't work, but since the system can't know if you
did that intentional it can not just install the plain default configs without
your assitance.
If you wanted to remove squid - remove it via apt so that it is not half
installed.
If you had other special config in mind, you have to adapt it.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:

[Bug 1646869] Re: package libcgmanager0 0.24-0ubuntu7.5 [modified: usr/share/doc/libcgmanager0/changelog.Debian.gz usr/share/doc/libcgmanager0/copyright] failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite

2016-12-05 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
thank you to report the bug and your help to make Ubuntu better even when you
hate it.

I see that your system has the file in question in a modified state:
modified: usr/share/doc/libcgmanager0/changelog.Debian.gz
usr/share/doc/libcgmanager0/copyright

The system can't know why that is, so it refuses to just overwrite them
on upgrade as you might have had a valid reason for it.

Aventually you can check for the full package status via
dpkg --verify libcgmanager0
It will report you all the files not matching the expected checksums.

If you want to throw away local changes you can rm them and the next
upgrade once your start it again should succeed (others prefer to
remove+purge and reinstall, but that depends on you).

[Bug 1645798] Re: No snaps appear in scope on Core 16

2016-12-05 Thread Michi Henning
I'll push a branch to have the registry create the applications dir if
it doesn't exist. That should be good enough for the moment. But the
whole .desktop file generation thing is a hack. As far as we can work
out, this was needed because online accounts refused to work unless
there was a .desktop file.

[Bug 1647117] Re: After accepting updates, the download progress bars are in a very small subpanel of dialog that cannot be resized

2016-12-05 Thread Václav Haisman
I think I should point out this is permanent so far, not just during the
update to Yakkety.

[Bug 1647550] [NEW] Wifi-SSID List vanishes after a few wakeups; LAN icons instead of wifi a

2016-12-05 Thread Shiva Bhusal
Public bug reported:

when I continue to put on the laptop for 2-3 days without shutting down,
then the list of wifi-SSID goes away and I see no wifi icon in right-
corner of menubar. Instead I see LAN icon[you know what I mean]. After
sometime, internet stops working and when I try to stop the wifi using
"Enable Wifi" and put back on, I can not. I then have to restart my
laptop to use internet.

I though its my responsibility to report this bug. Thanks :)

[Bug 1646731] Re: package openssh-server 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu2.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-12-05 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
thank you for reporting the bug and your help to make Ubuntu better.

It is not actually an ssh issue, but only triggered while upgrading ssh when it
tries to insert its init script.
In the log I found:
insserv: There is a loop between service tomcat and dns-clean if started
insserv: There is a loop between service tomcat and mountkernfs if started
insserv: There is a loop between service plymouth and urandom if started
insserv: There is a loop between service tomcat and udev if started

I've seen that more in a tomcat context so I'll reassign there - this seems to
be the "common denominator":
insserv: Starting tomcat depends on plymouth and therefore on system facility
`$all' which can not be true!

That eventually stops your ssh update/install at:
update-rc.d: error: insserv rejected the script header
dpkg: error processing package openssh-server (--configure)

At least some of theses issues I've seen where related to custom extra
software being installed confusing the dependencies - do you happen do
know if you have any of the listed sevrices tweaked or installed from a
non archive source?

I installed openssh-server, tomcat7, plymouth and they worked (tomcat by
default needs a config, but I didn't hit your issue).
I couldn't find dns-clean what package is that from?

It is a sad development that for such a simple task as to give one or
two keys another meaning the completely sufficien Xmodmap does not work
any more. I finally gave in and started using xkb. I described the way
it worked for me in detail here: http://askubuntu.com/a/846184/367444 .

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

Are you having an ipv6 only setup which nmbd isn't compatible with?

scopes/scoperunner "" /snap/unity8-session/current/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/unity-scopes/clickapps/clickscope.ini

This won't run for me because I don't have /root/snappyenv. What's in
that file? It looks like it's a script that sets up a bunch of env vars
and execs the remainder of the command line?

[Bug 1645798] Re: No snaps appear in scope on Core 16

2016-12-05 Thread Michi Henning
Looking at /root/snap/unity8-session/common/.cache/upstart/scope-
registry.log, there are lots of messages along the following lines:

scoperegistry: ignoring scope "clickscope": cannot create metadata:
unity::SyscallException: RegistryObject::create_desktop_file: unable to
create desktop file:
"/root/snap/unity8-session/common/.local/share/applications/clickscope.desktop"
(errno = 2)

The problem is that the applications subdirectory does not exist, but
scopes expect that directory to be pre-installed. In turn, failure to
create the desktop file causes the registry to not add metadata for
local scopes.

After creating the directory, the errors go away, and unity8-dash.log
looks clean. I'm seeing results from 7digital and amazon on a search
(albeit without thumbnails) once the applications directory exists,
which indicates that the scopes infrastructure is working.

[Bug 966734] Re: nfs4+idmap does not map uids correctly when using AUTH_SYS

2016-12-05 Thread Mark Solaris
I can toggle the good and bad behaviour by adding or removing "files" to
passwd_compat in /etc/nsswitch.conf

Causes problem:

passwd_compat: files ldap
group_compat: files ldap

host:/root root# getent passwd 1119
host:/root root#

No problem:

passwd_compat: ldap
group_compat: ldap

host:/root root# getent passwd 1119
testuser:*:1119:1000:Test User:/home/testuser:/bin/bash

Adding "files" to that line is suggested in some HOWTOs.

We'll likely remove compat entirely and just go with "files ldap" on the
"passwd:" line earlier in /etc/nsswitch.conf, we don't need the NIS-like
behvaiours here.

[Bug 1645341] Re: Wacom serial: Screen rotation triggers pen/eraser rotation but not for finger touch

2016-12-05 Thread Onno
Probably I have the same problem. I have wacom_w8001 in X201 Tablet. In
trusty both worked fine with a rotate script:

# Find the line in "xrandr -q --verbose" output that contains current
screen orientation and "strip" out current orientation.

rotation="$(xrandr -q --verbose | grep 'connected' | egrep -o  '\)
(normal|left|inverted|right) \(' | egrep -o
'(normal|left|inverted|right)')"

# Using current screen orientation proceed to rotate screen and input tools.
echo "$rotation";

case "$rotation" in
normal)
#-rotate to the inverted
xrandr -o inverted
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c stylus" Rotate half # HALF
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" Rotate half # HALF
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c eraser" Rotate half # HALF
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" mode absolute

;;

#-rotate to right
xrandr -o right
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c stylus" Rotate cw
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" Rotate cw
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c eraser" Rotate cw
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" mode absolute
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" Rotate none # HALF

;;

#-rotate to left
xrandr -o left
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c stylus" Rotate ccw
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" Rotate ccw
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c eraser" Rotate ccw
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" mode absolute
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" Rotate none # HALF

;;
left)
#-rotate to normal
xrandr -o normal
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c stylus" Rotate NONE
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" Rotate NONE
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c eraser" Rotate NONE
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf00c touch" mode absolute

esac

After the upgrade touch is out of sync, stylus and eraser works fine,
with the script.

For example if the rotation is inverted, then touch is in normal mode.
This is not the behavior, what I expect. If 'xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom
Tablet WACf00c touch" Rotate NONE' is executed, stylus and eraser are
then also None and touch works in inverted mode, but stylus and eraser
not.

Yes. Thanks for pointing it out.

No. Because of my mistake in the first message, there was a side
discussion, but nobody commented on the actual proposal. I think I'll
ask Chris Coulson (who currently maintains both adobe-flashplugin and
flashplugin-installer) in a private mail. Will ask for his view on
pepperflashplugin-nonfree as well, to confirm that our assumption, that
adobe-flashplugin will keep being maintained, is correct.

[Bug 1645083] Re: pepperflash chromium plugin doesn't work

2016-12-05 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1632870 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1632870

pepperflashplugin-nonfree is well-known to be broken since Google
stopped shipping the PPAPI Flash plugin with Chrome 54: see e.g. bug
1632870. The package has not been fixed yet. Besides, if it worked, it
would install PPAPI Flash version 23.0, not the NPAPI Flash version 11.2
that is inexplicably detected by chrome://plugins in your case (I
thought Chromium only supported PPAPI plugins?).

If you want an up-to-date version of pepperflashplugin-nonfree
specifically, try the one in Jonathon Fernyhough's PPA, it's fixed
(https://launchpad.net/~jonathonf/+archive/ubuntu/pepperflashplugin-
nonfree).

The recommended way to install the NPAPI and PPAPI Flash plugins is
through the adobe-flashplugin package though, which is in Canonical's
Partner repository (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Chromium/Getting-Flash).
Enable this repository, remove ALL other Flash-providing packages
(pepflashplugin-nonfree, flashplugin-installer, pepperflashplugin-
nonfree...), and install adobe-flashplugin.

[Bug 1644551] Re: install fails because downloaded file does not match the script

pepperflashplugin-nonfree is well-known to be broken since Google
stopped shipping the PPAPI Flash plugin with Chrome 54: see e.g. bug
1632870. The package has not been fixed yet.

See package adobe-flashplugin, in Canonical's Partner repository, for
the currently recommended way to install the NPAPI and the PPAPI Flash
plugins (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Chromium/Getting-Flash).

Enable this repository, remove all other Flash-providing packages
(pepflashplugin-nonfree, flashplugin-installer, pepperflashplugin-
nonfree...), and install adobe-flashplugin.

[Bug 1632870] Re: Package is broken since Google stopped shipping Flash with Chrome 54 for Linux

2016-12-05 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
Yes, I contacted Daniel a few weeks ago to let him know about the
Chrome/Flash unbundling and suggest he downloads from Adobe or retires
his PPA. Since there is now a variety of ways to get the NPAPI/PPAPI
Flash plugin, he decided to retire his PPA, and I updated my Flash memo
to stop mentioning it. I remember there used to be a time around Ubuntu
Precise where his pepflashplugin-nonfree was the sole packaged way to
install the PPAPI plugin for other browsers than Chrome. Let him be
thanked for this pioneer work.

Regarding the pepperflashplugin-nonfree package in the Ubuntu archive, I
am in favor of proposing to drop it from the archive in zesty (I believe
you mean zesty). As it stands now, this package will stay broken until
the original Debian maintainer fixes it, and there hasn't been a sign on
debbugs 833741 and 841373 that this will happen soon. And even if it
does, this package offers no advantage over the adobe-flashplugin
package in partner, besides being in multiverse rather than in partner.
Unless that last point is crucial, I vote for proposing to drop the
package.

BTW, was there ever a consensus in favor or against enabling partner at
install time, when you contacted the ubuntu-devel list?
