[Bug 1647946] [NEW] Latest online accounts breaks unity-scopes-api

2016-12-06 Thread Michi Henning
Public bug reported:

We just got this test failure on zesty:

https://jenkins.canonical.com/unity-
api-1/job/build-2-binpkg/arch=armhf,release=zesty/1022/consoleFull

Search for "OnlineAccountClientTest.service_update_callback"

In the log, we see
"GDBus.Error:com.google.code.AccountsSSO.SingleSignOn.Error.MethodNotKnown:
Authentication method is not known."

This test has worked for well over a year and has never failed.
Something must have changed outside scopes-api.

[Bug 1645798] Re: No snaps appear in scope on Core 16

2016-12-06 Thread Michi Henning
The assertion failure appears to be unrelated to the click scope not showing
any results.
What is interesting is that the other scopes seems to work fine, it's only the
click scope that is empty. With the missing applications dir in place, I'm not
seeing any errors at all in the logs, just the empty search results from the
click scope. This suggests that the scopes-api infrastructure is working and
the problem is somewhere in click scope or its dependencies.

[Bug 1647945] [NEW] MRE stable release of DPDK 16.07.2

2016-12-06 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

DPDK finally has established a stable release process.
The first update out of this is the 16.07.2 release which this shall make
available on Yakkety.

Upstream maintenance of the stable release is at
http://dpdk.org/browse/dpdk-stable/
The summary "changelog" of the stable release(s) is at
http://dpdk.org/doc/guides-16.07/rel_notes/release_16_07.html#fixes-in-stable-release

I'd consider this well tested for an MRE release from Upstream:
- upstream integrated Autotest suite
- Upstream has a CI Lab driven by Intel running on RC (Link FYI
https://dpdksummit.com/Archive/pdf/2016Userspace/Day02-Session10-QianXu-Userspace2016.pdf)
- the purpose of the (rather new) stable branch is to provide an API/ABI stable
set of fixes to downstreams
- These tests run on commit (verification) and larger tests on RC/Releases

In addition I on the packaged-into-ubuntu side we have:
- autopkgtests, but due to the nature of DPDK those can only really test the
runtime bits (like service invocation)
- a testing project at
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-server/ubuntu/+source/dpdk-testing/+git/dpdk-testing
which I ran against new uploads as a gating check
  - this runs the package autotests (in a manner knowing about the remaining
false positives)
  - this also runs some of the bundled examples l2fwd, testpmd and finally the
only "in archive
exploiter" we have so far in OpenvSwitch-DPDK (functional and performance
checks)

I'll attach the log of the testing once it completes against a ppa with
the proposed changes, but wanted to start the MRE discussion/process
already.

[Bug 1287633] Re: login password entry problem

2016-12-06 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I think I am experiencing a similar problem in one of my computers. I
can log in fine, but when I press Ctrl-Alt-L or my X session becomes
otherwise locked I cannot input the password to get back in anymore.
It's always refused as incorrect even though I enter the correct
password. A successful workaround is to choose "Switch Account" in the
top right corner and then login in successfully with the previously
rejected password. Still wondering what is going on there.

Re: [Bug 1572801] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Unity desktop uses much more ram than Ubuntu 15.10

2016-12-06 Thread Andrei B.
I decided to try Fedora 25 Gnome. 4 GB of RAM proved not enough for Chrome,
this considering gnome starts already at 1.3 GB. All in all it does'n feel
much different than Unity in mem usage. Xubuntu and the lighter bunch start
with less ram, so Chrome has a harder time swapping. I would not care about
Chrome, but my wife is using it ( I'm a firefox guy). I stayed with Fedora,
but I had to buy 8 extra GB of ram and disable swap. The system works fine
since then.

On Dec 6, 2016 10:55 PM, "Ryan Karolak" <1572...@bugs.launchpad.net>
wrote:

Evolution is the application that Ubuntu uses for calendar, mail, and
contacts. A similar program would be Mozilla's Thunderbird.

It doesn't surprise me that removing it would free up some RAM, but I
don't think this is necessarily the root of the problem. Removing it
from other versions of Ubuntu would similarly free up RAM there as well.

Chrome has also always been a memory hog for years. It's a problem
across all platforms, not just Ubuntu/GNU/Linux. Disabling as many
extensions and add-ons can help there.

I haven't done much testing myself, but it may be worth testing
different Window and Desktop Managers to see if it Unity maybe plays a
role in the problem.

My machine is a 2013 Pixel (Reflashed ROM) running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
(Unity). I have 4 GB of RAM and I have more than one or two applications
it starts swapping much sooner than I'd expect.

[Bug 1646993] Re: [SRU] New stable micro release 2.23

2016-12-06 Thread Leo Arias
I installed snapcraft, snapcraft-parser and snapcraft-examples in clean xenial
and yakkety virtual machines.
Then I enabled -proposed and upgraded the three packages to 2.23.

I ran the tests mentioned in the comment #2 above, and extensive
exploratory in both machines.

I couldn't find any regressions caused by this release, nor any big
blocker issues. I hereby pronounce this bug as verified.

I won't change the tag to let Sergio do it when he is ready.

2016-12-06 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
the application being used for the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1647523] Re: convert command cannot create labels

2016-12-06 Thread Simon B.
OK, I found the culprit.

I first re-upgraded ghostscript.

Then I downgrading imagemagick and imagemagick-common to 3.1, but it was not
enough to make it work again.
Then I tried downgrading libmagickwand5, libmagickcore5, libmagick++5 to 3.1,
and it works!

Then I re-upgraded, one package at a time, and found out that
libmagickcore5 is the problem.

Downgrading only

libmagickcore5_6.7.7.10-6ubuntu3.3_amd64.deb

to

libmagickcore5_6.7.7.10-6ubuntu3.1_amd64.deb

makes it work again.

So the problem is in libmagickcore5.

want zesty to break when ghostscript is updated next there.

[Bug 1647917] [NEW] Invalid access when opening eps with ghostscript 9.19~dfsg+1-0ubuntu6.2 and libspectre 0.2.8

2016-12-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

1. Install the latest Ubuntu security update for ghostscript (since this
does not appear to have been released for zesty, it is a bit easier to
do this from Ubuntu 16.10 than from 17.04).

2. Install libspectre1 0.2.8-1 (from zesty or zesty-proposed).

3. Open a .eps with Evince, Ubuntu's default viewer for eps files.
Here's a test file:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libspectre/+bug/1348384/+attachment/4171120/+files/countrate.eps

What happens:
The .eps fails to display. If run from a terminal, this is output:

invalidaccess -7

Earlier version of libspectre (I tested Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.10) still
handle the test .eps file ok.

Re: [Bug 1646962] Re: ACER ES1 GUI freezes randomly

2016-12-06 Thread Jim Coleman
I just installed and am running 4.9.0-040900rc8-generic, thanks. No, this
laptop has had this problem for some time. I was running OpenSuse for some
time immediately before switching back to Ubuntu. I don't remember ever
having the issue with Leap but it locked up many times when I switched to
Tumbleweed (I'm sorry I haven't kept track of the versions). So, this is
definitely peculiar to this hardware.

Before installing the new kernel, I used compressed air to blow as much
dust from inside the laptop as I could (it's relatively new so there wasn't
much) thinking it might have been heat-related. I, also, entered the BIOS
and disabled any hardware-related settings that I didn't need (there
weren't many). When it locked up this evening (while idle), I downloaded
the 4.9 kernel and did the install.

I'll let you know how it works out.

[Bug 1647523] Re: convert command cannot create labels

2016-12-06 Thread Simon B.
Looking at the Synaptic updates log on my system, imagemagick updates
were done at 01:45 and 13:01.

However, I could create an image with imagemagick at 13:04 on Dec. 1st.
Three minutes after the last update.

The following packages were updated afterwards:

ghostscript (9.10~dfsg-0ubuntu10.4) to 9.10~dfsg-0ubuntu10.5
ghostscript-x (9.10~dfsg-0ubuntu10.4) to 9.10~dfsg-0ubuntu10.5
libgs9 (9.10~dfsg-0ubuntu10.4) to 9.10~dfsg-0ubuntu10.5
libgs9-common (9.10~dfsg-0ubuntu10.4) to 9.10~dfsg-0ubuntu10.5

Could ghostscript be the problem? Just a guess.

[Bug 1647694] Re: Broadcom 4352 not installing module for Kernel 4.8.0-30

2016-12-06 Thread Jeff
apport information

** Description changed:

When installing Kernel 4.8.0-30, over existing Kernel 4.4.0-51 with a
Broadcom 4352 wireless device, the kernel install fails to install the
kernel module, resulting in wireless connectivity being inoperative.

lscpi-vnvn.log attached. Version log is not the kernel in question.
Linux Mint 18 Sarah RELEASE 18

Expected the WL driver module to be installed for the 4.8.0-30 kernel and for
wireless networking to function as a result. Actual result, error in install,
prevents kernel module from installing correctly and precludes wireless
networking functionality.

[Bug 1182040] Re: Grey printer indicator

2016-12-06 Thread Rodney Dawes
The indicators aren't really designed to be used in osx-style docks like
this, but really this looks like it's an issue with the icon theme
you're using not replacing enough icons. Not sure that this can really
be considered a bug in the indicator itself.
