[Bug 1645116] Re: core dump scanimage after installing brother DCP-J715W

2017-01-11 Thread Sylvain Viart
Thanks for the details. Done.

It should be reported, I initially used command line bug creation tools.

How do I check, that my bug report has been correctly uploaded?

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker mention "Choosing “Show Previous
Reports” in the settings interface should open a Web page listing those
reports" but it doesn't exists on xubuntu.

Regards,
Sylvain.

[Bug 1565975] Re: scanning sometimes impossible with LIDE 210

2017-01-11 Thread Nils Kassube
I have two machines with which I want to use the scanner, one of them is
the desktop with 64-bit Kubuntu (still 14.04) and the other one is a
rather old laptop which is not 64-bit capable (Pentium-M) with 32-bit
Kubuntu 16.04. When I discovered the problem on the laptop, I checked it
with the desktop and found out that it is the same for the 32-bit
version of 16.04, but different with 64-bit 16.04. And even with 64-bit
16.04 there is still the unusual noise and I fear that it might result
in some hardware wearout. So I'm not sure if using 64-bit really would
be a workaround.

[Bug 1655842] [NEW] "Out of memory" errors after upgrade to 4.4.0-59

2017-01-11 Thread Mike Williams
Public bug reported:

I recently replaced some Xenial servers, and started experiencing "Out
of memory" problems with the default kernel.

We bake Amazon AMIs based on an official Ubuntu-provided image (ami-
e6b58e85, in ap-southeast-2, from https://cloud-
images.ubuntu.com/locator/ec2/). Previous versions of our AMI included
"4.4.0-57-generic", but the latest version picked up "4.4.0-59-generic"
as part of a "dist-upgrade".

Instances booted using the new AMI have been using more memory, and
experiencing OOM issues - sometimes during boot, and sometimes a while
afterwards. An example from the system log is:

[ 130.113411] cloud-init[1560]: Cloud-init v. 0.7.8 running 'modules:final' at

I have a hunch that this may be related to the fix for
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1647400, introduced
in linux (4.4.0-58.79).

Marko, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

1) Could you please advise if you have an external monitor connected?
2) Does using the nvidia proprietary driver change anything regarding this?
3) If you disable the graphics card via your BIOS does this influence this
issue?
4) Could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the sticker of
the computer itself (not from the Bug Description, or the result of a terminal
command)?
5) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test

[Bug 1655836] [NEW] Ubuntu 17.04 installation with "Guided - use entire disk and set up LVM" fails

2017-01-11 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

---Problem Description---
Ubuntu 17.04 Guided - use entire disk and set up LVM and Guided - use entire
disk and set up encrypted LVM does not create separate partition for /boot and
so fails to complete the installation.

Comment 3
Looking into the logs ,this error will come if someone is using some external
media (ex :USB stick ).Suppose it is /dev/sda and our hard disk is /dev/sdb ..
then installation should occur on /dev/sdb, but it is trying to install on
/dev/sda.. so workaround is to remove external media and continue.

But, here they are doing virtual dvd install on LPAR.

[Bug 1645891] Re: After adding a second monitor, mouse pointer flickers and/or disappears in a zone near the top of first (notebook) monitor, while some apps show slow in ext display.

2017-01-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael Grivas, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

1) Could you please advise how your monitor and laptop are connected (ex. HDMI,
VGA, etc.)?
2) Does using the nvidia proprietary driver change anything regarding this?
3) If you disable the graphics card via your BIOS does this influence this
issue?
4) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

One problem for the method in #44, the fan very easily get spinning all
the time if nouveau is blacklisted. So I have the enable it. I don't
think this is a sensible workaround.

[Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132

2017-01-11 Thread Paul Eggert
I am still observing the problem on my Ubuntu 16.04.1 x86 desktop, which
has C77 [GeForce 8300] (rev a2) graphics. I assume this is because
304.134 has not yet been backported to 16.04.1 LTS. I hope the bug is
fixed soon, as it's a little disconcerting that the latest stable Ubuntu
release does not work on my non-bleeding-edge desktop. (Nouveau crashes
too often to be useful, and the more up-to-date proprietary driver has
so many artifacts on the screen that it is unusable.) For now, I have
worked around the problem by using the recipe in #20 to go back to
304.131-0ubuntu3.

Mauricio Maluff Masi, thank you for reporting this and helping make

1) Did this issue not occur for you personally (not someone else) in a Ubuntu
release prior to 16.10?
2) Could you please advise to the full manufacturer and model of the device you

3) What version of the DisplayLink driver are you using?

[Bug 1655828] [NEW] Mouse flickers and disappears on primary monitor when additional monitor is connected

2017-01-11 Thread Mauricio Maluff Masi
Public bug reported:

Any time I connect an additional monitor via my Displaylink adapter, the
mouse flickers and disappears in the primary monitor. It displays
perfectly on the additional monitor. It also displays perfectly after
the additional monitor is disconnected.

I see that there are a number of similar bug reports:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1645891

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1278223
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1613001

I'd be willing to help track it down.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: simple-scan

- when I use windows xp the my scanner canon works well when I'm connected at
ubuntu "simple scan" tells me first "there is no scanner- chek that the scanner
is turned on".
- when I push "acquire" I read:"no scanner available, connect a scanner"
+ Simple Scan notes:
+ "there is no scanner- check that the scanner is turned on"
+
+ After pushing the "acquire" button it notes:
+ "no scanner available, connect a scanner"
+
+ Works fine in Windows XP.
+
+ As per the SANE project, this device has minimal support via experimental CVS:

[Bug 1649048] Re: "Power off" required for resume from hybrid-sleep

2017-01-11 Thread Steven Ward
I would like to start by apologizing to anyone who may have wasted
time/effort on resolving this non-existent bug; I promise that I was not
being intentionally misleading. I was finally able to find the root of
my issue and, as it turns out, the issue was not the new bug I reported
here but instead was a combination of the "resume from suspend" bug and
systemd ignoring my settings in /etc/systemd/logind.conf when an
external display is connected.

I have changed the status of this bug to "Invalid" for the reasons
stated above. Again, I am sorry for any time and/or effort that was
wasted resolving or monitoring an issue that was actually just my
misunderstanding of my own system.

- Steven

2017-01-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Angel Guzman Maeso, as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases your release
is EOL.

If this is reproducible with a supported release, it will help immensely if you
filed a new report with it by running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug sane-backends

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

For more on why this is helpful, please see

[Bug 1099111] Re: Not possible to choose scan resolution with HP Photosmart C6300

2017-01-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Thomas Gebhardt, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As Ubuntu 12.10 is EOL as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases, and the
WORKAROUND is already implemented in Ubuntu 16.04, I'm closing this
report.

However, if you would need a backport to a release prior to 16.04,
please advise.

Thanks!

** Description changed:

  Hi,

not sure whether this bug really belongs to libsane. But it occurs in
different applications like gscan2pdf, xsane, gimp plugin, therefore I
guess that the bug lives somewhere in libsane / sane-backends

The bug emerged with 12.10 (after upgrading from 12.04 LTS).

When I try to select the scan resolution in one of the mentioned sane
based GUIs, the dropdown menu for the scan resolution is empty and I can
only scan with the default 75dpi resolution. (In my 12.04 LTS setup I
  can choose between different resolutions: 75dpi, 100dpi, 200dpi, ...).

  This is my scanner:
  $  sudo scanimage -L
  device `hpaio:/usb/Photosmart_C6300_series?serial=MY87U270TS0544' is a

[Bug 1318309] Re: Canon PIXMA MG6100 series not recognized

2017-01-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Viktor Schuppan, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and
helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug
has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in
previous versions of Ubuntu, please perform as much as possible of the
SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

[1]: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure

** Description changed:

My Canon PIXMA MG6150 is not recognized by sane (scanimage -L finds no
  scanner).

- There is a typo in line 1635 of the file backend/pixma_mp150.c. The
- occurrence of MG6200 in that line must be replaced with MG6100. After
- fixing that typo and rebuilding and reinstalling the package the device
- works.
+ WORKAROUND: There is a typo in line 1635 of the file backend/pixma_mp150.c
which has:
+ DEVICE ("Canon PIXMA MG6100", "MG6200", MG6100_PID, 2400, 0, 0, 638, 877,
PIXMA_CAP_CIS),

- The bug has already been fixed upstream in sane release 1.0.24. I don't
- know Ubuntu's policy on providing a fix in such case but having that
- report available in launchpad with the solution above may help others to
- fix it for themselves.
+ It should have:
+ DEVICE ("Canon PIXMA MG6100", "MG6100", MG6100_PID, 2400, 0, 0, 638, 877,
PIXMA_CAP_CIS),
+
+ After fixing that typo and rebuilding and reinstalling the package the
+ device works.
+
+ The bug has already been fixed upstream via commit:

This bug was fixed in the package pacemaker - 1.1.16-1ubuntu1

---
pacemaker (1.1.16-1ubuntu1) zesty; urgency=medium

  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #1655753). Remaining changes:
- d/control: Demote fence-agents to Suggests, avoiding main inclusion.
- d/control: Promote crmsh | pcs to Recommends for upgraders from 14.04.
  * Drop:
- d/rules: update CTS python files' path for python3 and possibly

[Bug 1636282] Re: network-manager after suspend showing arrow icon instead of wifi icon and showing no wifi networks

I still run into this problem from time to time. On my end, I resolve it
by running the following command:

sudo iwlist [wifi interface] scan

Once I did that, it immediately connected.

I'm under the impression that when resuming from suspend, Network
Manager isn't automatically scanning for access points.

[Bug 1532582] Re: Regression: SnapScan 1212U stuck after scanning one page

2017-01-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
dronus, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

** Description changed:

If I scan a page using the Agfa SnapScan 1212u, the scanner bar does not
return to the edge but stops in the middle of the scanner at which point
  the scanner powers off.

If one now tries to do another scan, the motor give a squeeking sound
for some seconds without movement, and the software reports a connection
  failure.

If the scanner USB connection is un- and replugged, the slit returns to
it's home position and it works again.. for one scan.

Some time ago, the scanner worked fine. I don't know how long this is
  ago.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Manually disable scanner USB autosuspend by executing as root:
+ echo -1 >/sys/bus/usb/devices/USB_ADDRESS_OF_SCANNER/power/autosuspend
