[Bug 1734280] [NEW] udisks unable to mount NTFS-formatted usb drive properly if block device is set to read only (blockdev --setro /dev/sd??)

2017-11-23 Thread Michael Tinsay
Public bug reported:

In older versions (10.04 and older) we use HAL and UDEV rules to force
all USB drives to be automounted read-only by the Desktop Environment.
But they don't anymore for the newer versions. After a few days
research and expirementations, I'm now able accomplish it using the UDEV
rule:

KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/sbin/blockdev --setro /dev/%k"

In 16.04 and 17.10, the above work for FAT/exFAT, ext3/4, and even ext4
on an encrypted partition. It doesn't work though on NTFS-formatted usb
drives -- I get a permission denied error.

To replicate/test this without creating the UDEV rule:

1. Insert FAT or ext3/4-formatted flash drive. Let Nautilus automount it.
Note where in the left navigation pane it is.
2. From a terminal session, unmount the partition -- let's say sdb1.
3. Do: sudo blockdev --setro /dev/sdb1
4. In Nautilus' left pane, click on the device name to mount it again.
5. The mount command should show the mounted device as read-only.

Do the same for a NTFS-formated usb drive. By step #4, it will not
mount with a permission denied error.

"8254 clock gating" is provided to disable 8254 timer to get rid of legacy and

Moreover, if using ssh shell I do:

then the app starts loading on the phone, the icon shows, and then it
closes down before the app UI kicks in. And that's it.

[Bug 1700827] Re: [MIR] pcp package

With the upstream changes mentioned above and a couple of tweaks
(everything up to and including commit f09cac4), I've been able to
complete a build, package, install and start PCP operation on all the
machines in my PCP QA Farm.

This means:
amd64 FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE, amd64 OpenBSD 5.8
i386Darwin 10.8.0, FreeBSD 9.3-RELEASE-p30, NetBSD 6.1.5
i686Debian 7.11, Debian 9.1, Fedora 25, Fedora 26, LinuxMint 15,
openSUSE 13.2, Ubuntu 17.04
i86pc OpenIndiana Development oi_151.1.8
x86_64 Arch Linux, CentOS6.9, CentOS Linux7.3.1611, CentOS Linux7.3.1611,
CentOS Linux7.3.1611, Debian 8.9, Debian 9.1, Fedora 21,
Fedora 23, Fedora 25, Fedora 26, Gentoo 2.2, LinuxMint 17.3,
MandrivaLinux 2011.0, openSUSE 42.2, openSUSE 42.3, RHEL Server
6.9, RHEL Server 7.3, Slackware "14.2", SUSE SLES12 SP0, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu 17.10

So I think we're clear of any regressions on the non-Debian platforms
with these changes.

+1 from me, thanks Nathan and Eric.

[Bug 1326814] Re: Should be smarter about detecting X use

2017-11-23 Thread Kris
Confirmed.
I just want to start click app on my phone but from ssh shell:

$ MIR_SOCKET=/var/run/mir_socket aa-exec-click -p
com.ubuntu.calculator_calculator_2.2.322 -- qmlscene -qt5 $@ share/qml
/ubuntu-calculator-app.qml

and it doesn't start, and returns: "Detected click app running under X!
Aborting"

To me the description given by the author here is clear, I experience
the same problem, and moreover there was a suggestion that seems super
viable (to check whether or not $MIR_SOCKET is set) so why not just
apply it???

This is still present in 17.10.

Isn't a permanent fix for this very old bug straightforward?...

In the file:
/etc/default/grub

Comment out or remove:
#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true

Add:
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden

Please let me know if I am mistaken about the ease of fixing this?

[Bug 1734132] Re: LibreOffice doesn't seem to have a right click context-menu

2017-11-23 Thread Olivier Tilloy
That's a very good clue. So I assume if you set it to 100% scaling you get the
menu as expected?
Can you try context menus in other applications (e.g. firefox,
chromium-browser, gedit, and maybe a Qt-based application) and report here how
they behave?

Also, were you able to downgrade and still observe the issue?

[Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-11-23 Thread Jason Gambrel
I tried downgrading to 4.4.0-101-generic - no change

I tried adding the ppa ppa:ci-train-ppa-service/2685 and using sudo apt
update then sudo apt full-upgrade to upgrade bluez to 5.46 in Linux Mint
18.2 - this improved things a bit. Less video freezing and able to
resume from freezing.

I tried editing /etc/pulse/default.pa and commenting out load-module
module-suspend-on-idle:
### Automatically suspend sinks/sources that become idle for too long
#load-module module-suspend-on-idle

Source:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Bluetooth

This seems to have fixed the issue for me.

[Bug 1720465] Re: HiDPI scaling does not hold across reboot

2017-11-23 Thread John Wang
I created a new 17.10 VM in Parallels 13 and didn't update any packages
post-installation, so I can still access the scale controls in Settings.

I'm attaching copies of ~/.config/monitors.xml before changing any
settings, immediately after changing Settings > Devices > Displays >
Scale to 200%, and after rebooting (which yields identical results to
simply logging out and back into a session).

Curiously, there are 2 Xorg servers running on a fresh installation, and
this is true both before and after installing Parallels Tools in the
guest VM:

---

user1@testvm1:~$ ps aux | grep -i xorg
root 1078 0.1 0.3 464924 15300 tty1 Sl+ 19:54 0:00
/usr/lib/xorg/Xorg vt1 -displayfd 3 -auth /run/user/121/gdm/Xauthority
-background none -noreset -keeptty -verbose 3
root 1369 2.2 5.4 891936 220480 tty2Sl+ 19:54 0:04
/usr/lib/xorg/Xorg vt2 -displayfd 3 -auth /run/user/1000/gdm/Xauthority
-background none -noreset -keeptty -verbose 3

---

Also attaching a screenshot of Settings > Details > About, to show the
string of the video driver installed by Parallels.

I got no output when I issue that command. I issued the command "sudo

What are possible reasons why this wasn't installed when I did a do-

All I can tell you right now is that it wouldn't be Recommends because

Lubuntu doesn't pull in recommends, so that's not the reason it's
installed.

Regardless, like I said on the other bug reports, this is an issue
which, in my opinion as an Ubuntu Developer, does not warrant a Stable
Release Update (from the policy: "Stable release updates will, in
general, only be issued in order to fix high-impact bugs." -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates). Marking as Won't Fix. I
might look into that for Bionic, but it would be part of a general
cleanup of dependencies.

[Bug 1734238] [NEW] gtk-recordmydesktop crashes on launch

2017-11-23 Thread Eneko Castresana
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center

3) What you expected to happen
Launch

4) What happened instead
When launched from terminal I get this error:

Searching for "invalid string constant murrine-scrollbar" in Google
reveals that this seems to be a generalized error not exclusive to this
package.

Note that this is a recent upgrade from 16.10 to 17.04 and 17.10, so
perhaps some things were broken.

I have no idea how to work around this. Please hit me up for any more
information or to test possible solutions. Thanks!

[Bug 1734172] Re: Upgrade ZFS to 0.7.3

2017-11-23 Thread Richard Laager
I have a related question... as far as I'm aware, the ZoL
kernel<->userspace interface is still not versioned:
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/1290

Effectively, this means that the version of zfsutils-linux must always
match the version of the kernel modules. What is the plan to handle this
in Ubuntu's HWE kernels? For example, if Bionic gets ZFS 0.7.3, will
that show up in the Xenial HWE kernel? If so, that will create an
incompatibility, unless zfsutils-linux is updated in Xenial. But if
zfsutils-linux is updated in Xenial, then it will be incompatible with
the Xenial GA kernel.

[Bug 1734227] [NEW] frequent spawn failures on busy ocata cloud

2017-11-23 Thread Paul Collins
Public bug reported:

On one of our OpenStack deployments, which runs ocata from the
Ubuntu Cloud Archive on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, we often find that
instances fail to spawn as follows. We generally observe this
problem more frequently on older compute hosts when the spawn rate
is high enough (this cloud runs mostly short-lived instances).

Reviewing nova-compute.log reveals the following:

but no such line for vif-network-plugged, which probably serves to
confirm that nova did not receive the network-vif-plugged event
because neutron did not send it in the first place; if neutron had
even tried to send the event, it would have logged it.

Now for neutron-openvswitch-agent.log on the compute host, where

which seems rather strange, if it's true. Although another theory
that just occurred to me is that maybe neutron-openvswitch-agent
somehow got "stuck" for long enough that nova-compute timed out.

This is also the only line that _bind_devices logs for such ports
that fail to launch in this manner on our cloud. There is no

[Bug 1734225] [NEW] Invalid service name defined in /etc/ctdb/events.d/50.samba

2017-11-23 Thread Julien Langlois
Public bug reported:

The CTDB deployed /etc/ctdb/events.d/50.samba script contain the following code
to detect the smbd/nmbd service name:
---
case $CTDB_INIT_STYLE in
suse)
CTDB_SERVICE_SMB=${CTDB_SERVICE_SMB:-smb}
CTDB_SERVICE_NMB=${CTDB_SERVICE_NMB:-nmb}
;;
debian)
CTDB_SERVICE_SMB=${CTDB_SERVICE_SMB:-samba}
CTDB_SERVICE_NMB=${CTDB_SERVICE_NMB:-""}
;;
*)
# Use redhat style as default:
CTDB_SERVICE_SMB=${CTDB_SERVICE_SMB:-smb}
CTDB_SERVICE_NMB=${CTDB_SERVICE_NMB:-""}
;;
esac
---

It detects Ubuntu as Debian (/etc/ctdb/functions) and so define that the
smb service is named "samba" and the nmb service does not exists.

That could be OK since Samba deploy an "samba" init script as well as
smbd and nmbd. Except, this init script does not really work to start
smbd and nmbd.

To make CTDB happy, the previous code must be modified:

I reproduced this issue on both Ubuntu 16.04 and 14.04. But it does not exists
on Debian Stretch (the 50.samba has been updated).

An easier workaround to avoid updating the 50.samba script is to set those 2
service name in the /etc/default/ctdb:

CTDB_SERVICE_SMB=smbd
CTDB_SERVICE_NMB=nmbd

[Bug 1734223] [NEW] Update package to zsh 5.4.2 (as in Debian Buster)

2017-11-23 Thread dana
Public bug reported:

The zsh package was not updated in Artful, nor has it been updated in
Bionic yet. As of now it is two major releases behind. Would it be
possible to bump zsh in Bionic to 5.4.2, as currently available in
Debian Buster (and Sid)?

https://packages.debian.org/testing/zsh
https://packages.debian.org/sid/zsh

The .deb from Sid installs and runs perfectly on Xenial, as far as i can
tell, so i'm hopeful this is a pretty trivial thing to do.

Thanks!

PS: Not very familiar with this whole update process — sorry if i've
erred in any way.

[Bug 1734222] [NEW] Man page outdated

2017-11-23 Thread Esteban Lucchesi
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 17.10.

Trigger Rally version: 0.6.5+dfsg-2build1 (amd64).

What I expected: manual page showing $(HOME)/.trigger-rally/trigger-
rally-VERSION.config as the configuration file (that is the name of the
configuration file since version 0.6.3).

What happened instead: manual page (written for Debian) showing
$(HOME)/.trigger/trigger.config (which was the configuration file used
with older versions.)

(I couldn't find the man page in the source package.)

Thanks,
Esteban

[Bug 1734203] Re: ubuntu dock should have an option for automatic size

2017-11-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1734203/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1504362] Re: Desktop flashes briefly on resume before going to lock screen

2017-11-23 Thread Wal
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1532508 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1532508

I can also confirm that this bug is still present on Ubuntu 16.04.3.
When screen is resuming from being blank it will randomly continue to
flicker to a black screen then back. This might only happen once in
every 10 resume sessions however it does happen. When this is happening
if I click my mouse it will fix it and it will be normal again. This was
not present on an earlier version of Ubuntu the first release 16.04. I
have tried the following 1. Reinstalling Ubuntu 2. Downgrading to an
earlier kernel however nothing seems to fix it and the bug is still
there.

My Specs are as follows:

Processor: AMD A8-7650K Radeon R7, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G × 4

Graphics: AMD KAVERI (DRM 2.49.0 / 4.10.0-40-generic, LLVM 5.0.0)

[Bug 837456] Re: XTestFakeKeyEvent changes keyboard mapping to 'us'

2017-11-23 Thread Arturo Espinosa
Hi. I can confirm this situation on Lubuntu 17.10 with
onboard-1.4.1-2ubuntu1 installed and Spanish keyboard configured
(localectl set-keymap es). No need for clients generating synthetic
keyboard events: just using onboard, any key, will switch it back to
'us' layout. Same: any physical keyboard usage will switch the system
back to the correct layout.

This is a quite barebones installation for a kiosk; I'm not using fcitx
nor any other fancy IM subsystem. Before removing fcitx, I didn't notice
this bug. It seems like fcitx kept onboard at bay.

Issuing setxkbmap es at the start of the session (in my case in
~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart) fixed the problem AFAICT.

Otherwise, I'm VERY happy with onboard and its flexibility. So far I
have been able to overcome all of its quirks and take advantage of its
power, without any need to patch the code. We have custom layout, theme
and colors. Again, very happy with it.

[Bug 402892] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode

2017-11-23 Thread Sergey Karapetyan
Same problem on Lubuntu 14.04
Touchscreen: (MasterTouch MT-500 USB), supports only single touch.
Mouse not connected.

problem appears in next apps:
- Chromium: 62.0.3202.75
- Firefox 28.0

Sometimes MouseUp just not firing:
https://prnt.sc/hefody

then i close Chromium / Firefox with ALT+F4

but mouse still stuck in "MouseDown" state _systemwide_ :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bf57bg47f3zsq2m/test.mp4?dl=0

Even if I connect the mouse to the computer after the problem occurs -
the left mouse button will not work.

But mtpaint works fine! There is some difference in how mtpaint and
(chromium, firefox) works with mousedown / mouseup events.

Any ideas? I need use touchscreen and don't need mouse. So i can't disable the
touchscreen as recommended, because this will make the whole system unusable.

Thanks

[Bug 1734212] [NEW] package openssh-server 1:7.5p1-10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-11-23 Thread tenwit
Public bug reported:

Happened during upgrade of Ubuntu from 17.04 to 17.10.
Stepped away from desk; when I came back I was locked out.
I didn't recognize the lock screen.
There was no way to log back into the session, no password prompt etc.
I switched to a VT and monitored top for a while: "artful" was minimally
active, but never about 2% CPU and memory never changed; I guessed it was
waiting for a user prompt which I'd never be able to give, so I rebooted.
I got this error on boot.

The system is now usable. I've done `dpkg configure -a; apt upgrade` and
it's all working as I'd expect.

2017-11-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

[Bug 1734196] Re: gnome-control-center: Ubuntu dock settings is blank

2017-11-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report

The log has that error
"No Ubuntu Dock is installed here. Panel disabled. Please fix your
installation."

That message is displayed when the dock gsettings schemas can't be found,
what's the output of that command for you?
$ dpkg -l | grep gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock
