[Bug 1734280] [NEW] udisks unable to mount NTFS-formatted usb drive properly if block device is set to read only (blockdev --setro /dev/sd??)
Public bug reported: In older versions (10.04 and older) we use HAL and UDEV rules to force all USB drives to be automounted read-only by the Desktop Environment. But they don't anymore for the newer versions. After a few days research and expirementations, I'm now able accomplish it using the UDEV rule: KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/sbin/blockdev --setro /dev/%k" In 16.04 and 17.10, the above work for FAT/exFAT, ext3/4, and even ext4 on an encrypted partition. It doesn't work though on NTFS-formatted usb drives -- I get a permission denied error. To replicate/test this without creating the UDEV rule: 1. Insert FAT or ext3/4-formatted flash drive. Let Nautilus automount it. Note where in the left navigation pane it is. 2. From a terminal session, unmount the partition -- let's say sdb1. 3. Do: sudo blockdev --setro /dev/sdb1 4. In Nautilus' left pane, click on the device name to mount it again. 5. The mount command should show the mounted device as read-only. Do the same for a NTFS-formated usb drive. By step #4, it will not mount with a permission denied error. ** Affects: udisks (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734280 Title: udisks unable to mount NTFS-formatted usb drive properly if block device is set to read only (blockdev --setro /dev/sd??) [Bug 1720465] Re: HiDPI scaling does not hold across reboot
I created a new 17.10 VM in Parallels 13 and didn't update any packages post-installation, so I can still access the scale controls in Settings. I'm attaching copies of ~/.config/monitors.xml before changing any settings, immediately after changing Settings > Devices > Displays > Scale to 200%, and after rebooting (which yields identical results to simply logging out and back into a session). Curiously, there are 2 Xorg servers running on a fresh installation, and this is true both before and after installing Parallels Tools in the guest VM: --- user1@testvm1:~$ ps aux | grep -i xorg root 1078 0.1 0.3 464924 15300 tty1 Sl+ 19:54 0:00 /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg vt1 -displayfd 3 -auth /run/user/121/gdm/Xauthority -background none -noreset -keeptty -verbose 3 root 1369 2.2 5.4 891936 220480 tty2Sl+ 19:54 0:04 /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg vt2 -displayfd 3 -auth /run/user/1000/gdm/Xauthority -background none -noreset -keeptty -verbose 3 --- Also attaching a screenshot of Settings > Details > About, to show the string of the video driver installed by Parallels. ** Attachment added: "Monitor config after fresh installation" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1720465/+attachment/5013913/+files/monitors.xml_fresh-install -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720465 Title: HiDPI scaling does not hold across reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1720465/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Lubuntu doesn't pull in recommends, so that's not the reason it's installed. Regardless, like I said on the other bug reports, this is an issue which, in my opinion as an Ubuntu Developer, does not warrant a Stable Release Update (from the policy: "Stable release updates will, in general, only be issued in order to fix high-impact bugs." - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates). [Bug 1734172] Re: Upgrade ZFS to 0.7.3
I have a related question... as far as I'm aware, the ZoL kernel<->userspace interface is still not versioned: https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/1290 Effectively, this means that the version of zfsutils-linux must always match the version of the kernel modules. What is the plan to handle this in Ubuntu's HWE kernels? For example, if Bionic gets ZFS 0.7.3, will that show up in the Xenial HWE kernel? If so, that will create an incompatibility, unless zfsutils-linux is updated in Xenial. But if zfsutils-linux is updated in Xenial, then it will be incompatible with the Xenial GA kernel. ** Bug watch added: Github Issue Tracker for ZFS #1290 https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/1290 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734172 Title: Upgrade ZFS to 0.7.3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-linux/+bug/1734172/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1504362] Re: Desktop flashes briefly on resume before going to lock screen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1532508 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1532508 I can also confirm that this bug is still present on Ubuntu 16.04.3. When screen is resuming from being blank it will randomly continue to flicker to a black screen then back. This might only happen once in every 10 resume sessions however it does happen. When this is happening if I click my mouse it will fix it and it will be normal again. This was not present on an earlier version of Ubuntu the first release 16.04. I have tried the following 1. Reinstalling Ubuntu 2. Downgrading to an earlier kernel however nothing seems to fix it and the bug is still there. My Specs are as follows: Processor: AMD A8-7650K Radeon R7, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G × 4 Graphics: AMD KAVERI (DRM 2.49.0 / 4.10.0-40-generic, LLVM 5.0.0) OS: Ubuntu 16.04.3 64-bit -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1504362 Title: Desktop flashes briefly on resume before going to lock screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1504362/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 837456] Re: XTestFakeKeyEvent changes keyboard mapping to 'us'
Hi. I can confirm this situation on Lubuntu 17.10 with onboard-1.4.1-2ubuntu1 installed and Spanish keyboard configured (localectl set-keymap es). No need for clients generating synthetic keyboard events: just using onboard, any key, will switch it back to 'us' layout. Same: any physical keyboard usage will switch the system back to the correct layout. This is a quite barebones installation for a kiosk; I'm not using fcitx nor any other fancy IM subsystem. Before removing fcitx, I didn't notice this bug. It seems like fcitx kept onboard at bay. Issuing setxkbmap es at the start of the session (in my case in ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart) fixed the problem AFAICT. Otherwise, I'm VERY happy with onboard and its flexibility. So far I have been able to overcome all of its quirks and take advantage of its power, without any need to patch the code. We have custom layout, theme and colors. Again, very happy with it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/837456 Title: XTestFakeKeyEvent changes keyboard mapping to 'us' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/837456/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1734212] [NEW] package openssh-server 1:7.5p1-10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: Happened during upgrade of Ubuntu from 17.04 to 17.10. Stepped away from desk; when I came back I was locked out. I didn't recognize the lock screen. There was no way to log back into the session, no password prompt etc. I switched to a VT and monitored top for a while: "artful" was minimally active, but never about 2% CPU and memory never changed; I guessed it was waiting for a user prompt which I'd never be able to give, so I rebooted. I got this error on boot. The system is now usable. I've done `dpkg configure -a; apt upgrade` and it's all working as I'd expect.
