[Bug 1636666] Re: [MIR] pcre2

2017-11-29 Thread Matthias Klose

thanks for pointing that out. I didn't check myself, but how many of
these packages are already using pcre2 in Debian?

> So it seems unlikely that sticking our head in the sand will
> keep PCRE2 out of main for very long even if we wanted that.

I don't think that this is an accurate description. Your trackers are a
step forward, however a PPA with using pcre2 would give more confidence
that we don't get stuck in the middle of a transition.

Also the package seems to be behind 18 months behind with releases
compared to upstream, and we don't have the packaging issue resolved yet
in https://bugs.debian.org/862425. All this doesn't sound very
promising to only have to maintain one pcre version in 18.04. Please
can we start with a PPA to see if we can accomplish this transition in
time for bionic?

[Bug 1725190] Re: Please update modemmanager in xenial to the 1.6 series

2017-11-29 Thread Robert Liu
I have tried ModemManager 1.6 series mentioned in comment #18, and
Sierra MC7455, Sierra MC 7430 and Telit HE910D work fine with this
version. The signal strength issue (bug #1735134) is not observed with
this version.

Please find the first non-working v4.13-rc* release, so we can find the
commit(s) that causes the regression.

[Bug 1453812] Re: System freeze when using LibreOffice Writer

2017-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Vitaly Yevstigneyev, given you have different hardware, you likely have
a different root cause altogether (i.e. not the same problem). For
example, I have Intel hardware, and cannot reproduce the issue on
various versions of Ubuntu and LibreOffice.

Hence, it will help immensely if you use the computer the problem is
reproducible with, file a new report with Ubuntu by first ensuring the package
xdiagnose is installed, click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging
information after running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

[Bug 1636666] Re: [MIR] pcre2

2017-11-29 Thread Anders Kaseorg
I did some quick searches to assess the state of upstream PCRE2 support
in the packages listed on Jeremy’s tracker. It’s better than I thought:

• ClamAV, Git, HAProxy, SELinux, PHP, Qt, and VTE upstream all support PCRE2.
• PHP, Qt, and VTE upstream all _require_ PCRE2 now.
• In fact, Qt in Ubuntu 17.10 main is _already using_ (a bundled copy of)
PCRE2! Go look at the build log.

https://github.com/vrtadmin/clamav-devel/commit/85131d40f29900109798b1af4a71d79e8ff996a9
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/git/+bug/1729075
https://git.haproxy.org/?p=haproxy.git;a=commitdiff;h=f2592b29f13907ddf2bba42d00bc41cb8ee5b69b
https://github.com/SELinuxProject/selinux/commit/50f0910cf05bdc1d10710c7c3fb748a178473387
https://github.com/php/php-src/pull/2857
https://github.com/qt/qtbase/commit/9ff34b3a088867d66daa782a4d5dbed99cd8ede4
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1666264

So it seems unlikely that sticking our head in the sand will keep PCRE2
out of main for very long even if we wanted that.

[Bug 1576763] Re: pi2 images generate different checksums on repeated runs

2017-11-29 Thread Tyler Hicks
I'm having trouble with this one because I can't reproduce it in the
same way that's described in the bug description. The bug description
shows that two of the snap files share one sha512 and two other snap
files share another sha512. What I'm seeing is that no snap files share
the same sha512 (md5sum shown below for easier reading):

[Bug 1732056] Re: Touchpad stops working after a few seconds in Lenovo ideapad 320

2017-11-29 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
** Description changed:

+ === SRU Justifications ===
+
+ [Impact]
+ Touchpad freezes after a brief usage.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Quote from the commit log:
+ "The stale cached value written at the final stage undoes the masking.
+ Fix this by re-reading the register before clearing the interrupt.
+
+ I also spotted that the interrupt-clearing code can race against
+ amd_gpio_irq_mask() / amd_gpio_irq_unmask(), so add locking there.
+ Presumably this race was leading to the loss of interrupts."
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Touchpad no longer freezes on ideapad 320-15ABR, a new Dell Latitude and
+ a new Dell Inspiron.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low. It limits to AMD laptops

[Bug 1732474] Re: Closing lid with external monitor plugged in sends system to sleep

2017-11-29 Thread Fredrik Blomqvist
I have this exact same issue. If I turn off suspend on lid close in the
Gnome Tweak Tool I have sometimes been able to close the lid without
issues (as in, the laptop monitor turns off and the external one blinks
black for a second, cursor still visible). Since a couple of days back,
that stopped working as well (it worked for at least a few weeks before
then). If I close my lid now, the laptop locks and my external monitor
turns off. The only way to get out of the state is to open the lid, upon
which I am presented by the login screen.

I am using my onboard Intel graphics (combined with bumblebee and the
dedicated Nvidia card, but clearly Intel is the active one when this
happens).

Has there been any progress on this?

[Bug 1735134] Re: ModemManager uses a wrong plugin for Dell DW5818/5819

2017-11-29 Thread Robert Liu
there is a bug #1725190 which is going to backport ModemManager 1.6
series to Xenial. Yesterday, I tested the proposed packages. It resolves
the issue as well. If the release is coming soon, then I think it's not
necessary to apply the fix. If not, could you please update the 1.4
series first?

[Bug 1393744] Re: 1814:0301 RT2x00/rt61pci disconnects since update to 15.04

2017-11-29 Thread mike
In 2017

It seams there's some problem with network-manager and also power
management in the driver.

Workaround:

Don't use network-manager. I'm using trinity, with out network-manager.

I also deactivated power management for wifi, and it works correctly.

sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf

change "wifi.powersave = 3" to "wifi.powersave = 2"

don't forget to save :P

then restart the network, or just reboot.

[Bug 1306500] Re: some keys stopped working: left & right arrows, backspace

2017-11-29 Thread Mike Kobler
A recent 'apt upgrade' caused me to hit this bug on my Ubuntu-Mate 16.04
installation. Looking over my apt history, I see that the ibus package
was installed about the time the problem started to show up.

Installing ibus-gtk and ibus-gtk3 did not resolve the issue, though
stopping the ibus daemon does appear to work.

[Bug 1576763] Re: pi2 images generate different checksums on repeated runs

2017-11-29 Thread Tyler Hicks
Hello - the bug title/description makes it sound like this bug is
specific to armhf (armhf's squashfs-tools deb package and the armhf nmap
snap) but I'd like to confirm that's what you meant to imply.

If I use amd64's squashfs-tools deb package and the armhf nmap snap, I
can still reproduce this bug. Have you tested if that's the case when
using the amd64 squashfs-tools and an amd64 nmap snap?

Which suggests they are a bug in PackageKit. A quick look at the
PackageKit source shows this is done in a callback that may still be
running after an object has been unreferenced. So I don't think they're
related to the Snap changes.

The crash with the backtrace seems to be related to the network monitor
changing state (network disconnected/connected?). So I don't think it's
related to the Snap plugin.

You can download drivers, link: https://goo.gl/neQe.

Unpack the tarball :
# tar vjxf r8168-8.aaa.bb.tar.bz2

Change to the directory:
# cd r8168-8.aaa.bb

If you are running the target kernel, then you should be able to
do :

# ./autorun.sh (as root or with sudo)

Following those steps everything will work. Tested with Ubuntu 16.04

  * Backport "minimized round 2" changes from trunk to Xenial (LP: #1731492)
  * Remove apt, debconf, dpkg cruft files from /var/cache and /var/lib in
all our livefses.
  * Pass --cache false to lb config; otherwise we copy around caches of
.debs that are never used properly, and which prevent us from emptying
/var/cache/apt in images.
  * When building minimized cloud images, remove various packages that we
don't want installed by default. Some are tools that aren't needed for
non-interactive use; some are libraries whose reverse-dependencies
will have already been removed; and one, open-vm-tools, should only be
included in images that are targeted to VMWare (which is not the case
for any of the current minimal images), rather than being included

[Bug 1731492] Re: [SRU] Release "minimized round 2" changes to Xenial

2017-11-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package livecd-rootfs - 2.408.24

---
livecd-rootfs (2.408.24) xenial; urgency=medium

  * For the IMAGEFORMAT=none parts to work for ubuntu-image classic builds, we
need to make sure IMAGEFORMAT is preserved and not overwritten if defined.
Backporting from artful.

livecd-rootfs (2.408.23) xenial; urgency=medium

  [ Gary Wang ]
  * Add the IMAGEFORMAT=none to support generating a single rootfs
(LP: #1730642)

  [ Christopher Glass (Ubuntu) ]
  * Backport "minimized round 2" changes from trunk to Xenial (LP: #1731492)
  * Remove apt, debconf, dpkg cruft files from /var/cache and /var/lib in
all our livefses.
  * Pass --cache false to lb config; otherwise we copy around caches of
.debs that are never used properly, and which prevent us from emptying
/var/cache/apt in images.
  * When building minimized cloud images, remove various packages that we
don't want installed by default. Some are tools that aren't needed for
non-interactive use; some are libraries whose reverse-dependencies
will have already been removed; and one, open-vm-tools, should only be
included in images that are targeted to VMWare (which is not the case
for any of the current minimal images), rather than being included
directly in the cloud-image seed.

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-11-29 Thread Marius
Regarding UEFI vs Legacy mode. If I understand it correctly it happened
in UEFI and not Legacy mode. I am not sure but I think my Lenovo Yoga 2
doesn't have Legacy "old school" BIOS and it only has UEFI. It has
"BIOS backport" feature but I don't know if that's what you mean. In
either case BIOS backport was disable by default on the laptop.

[Bug 1735309] [NEW] "Encode Clip As..." greyed out because of wrong library directory configuration

2017-11-29 Thread Esteban Lucchesi
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 17.10.

LiVES version: 2.8.6-1 (amd64).

What I expected: encoding enabled by default.

What happened instead: encoding disabled (File -> Encode Clip As...
greyed out).

Diagnostic: LiVES was built without using ./configure
--libdir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

Temporary solution: edit ~/.lives configuration file to read:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

Thanks,
Esteban

[Bug 1735046] Re: mkfs.btrfs error checking mount status of loop device backing_file

2017-11-29 Thread Ryan Harper
Cherry pick upstream commit which resolves dealing with loopfiles when
doing mount checks.

progs.git/commit/?id=d06b30feb9cb99e3684b5709159ca59cf811f517

I've built a deb from this and tested that this works when a loopdevice
is mounted.

[Bug 759875] Re: Non-ascii characters are not shown properly

gmpc seems to faithfully display the Title value from your tag_cache.
Could this be an encoding issue in the id3 tag?

On the other hand, there have been many mpd releases since your report,
is this still an issue when you rescan your database today?
