[Bug 1742922] Re: no connection anymore with r8152 on 4.13.0-26

2018-01-14 Thread Corben
Looks like the r8152 driver is working with the device that has the usb
id: 0bda:0307, which is an usb 3.0 to ethernet adapter with three usb
3.0 ports on it.

The affected device where the driver is not working, has the usb id
045Ep:07C6d, which is in a docking station (2 x display port, 2 x usb
2.0, 2 x usb 3.0).

[Bug 1741807] Re: NVIDIA Spectre attack fixes

2018-01-14 Thread Saxon Druce
Hi Leith,

I've submitted the message below to NVIDIA via the feedback form at
http://www.nvidia.com/object/driverqualityassurance.html

Saxon

Hi NVIDIA,

Since 384.90-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 was released, EGL crashes on set up (eg
when performing OpenGL operations like getting the OpenGL version), see
here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-384/+bug/1731968

The same problem occurs on the recent 384.111 update, released to fix
Spectre. See comment #5 here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-384/+bug/1741807

Some more details also described here:

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/47415198/missing-gl-version-from-
glewinit-using-egl/47527089#47527089

I have also tried the beta of 390.12 from here:

https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages

By doing the following:

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-390

But this also doesn't work.

Thanks,
Saxon

[Bug 1742995] Re: linux: 4.4.0-110.133 -proposed tracker

2018-01-14 Thread Vincent Bernat
Hey!

The patchset seems incomplete: 8339cae23d79be97a38df3852ef5dab870806a58
should add speculative control CPUID support for guests but only the AMD
part is here. When running a guest on top of KVM, CPUID doesn't contain
the spec-ctrl bit.

I am using this patch instead:

https://github.com/exoscale/pkg-kernel-4.4/blob/4d0b19ad0379ba20846634e21ec0192a9326/debian/patches/ibrs%2Bkvm/27-kvm-x86-add-speculative-control-cpuid-support-for-guests.patch

It also needs the following patch:

https://github.com/exoscale/pkg-kernel-4.4/blob/4d0b19ad0379ba20846634e21ec0192a9326/debian/patches/ibrs%2Bkvm/32-x86-provide-get-scattered-cpuid-leaf.patch

[Bug 1730174] Re: [artful] Mouse broken after upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10

2018-01-14 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
I could narrow this bug with a 100% certitude (and confirm it also on
Manjaro Linux on the same machine) with using the NVidia 304 proprietary
driver.

My machine has a NVidia C77 [GeForce 8200] (rev a2) which is unsupported
with latest NVidia 340 drivers (the system justs freezes).

It used to work perrfectly using NVidia 304 "legacy" driver until
upgrading to Ubuntu 17.10, but something must have recently changed in
the way Gnome or Xorg handles the mouse and the legacy NVidia driver has
probably not been updated, alas.

THe bug does *NOT* exist when using the "nouveau" driver. Unfortunately,
its doesn't perform as well as the proprietray NVidia did... But at
least the mouse works again.

[Bug 1743302] [NEW] wrong dbus-send path in systemd unit

2018-01-14 Thread Daniel Axtens
Public bug reported:

When I try to shut down nfs-ganesha, I see:

Jan 15 06:07:27 a systemd[1]: Stopping NFS-Ganesha file server...
Jan 15 06:07:27 a systemd[15021]: nfs-ganesha.service: Failed at step EXEC
spawning /bin/dbus-send: No such file or directory

This is because the unit file /lib/systemd/system/nfs-ganesha.service reads
ExecStop=/bin/dbus-send --system   --dest=org.ganesha.nfsd --type=method_call
/org/ganesha/nfsd/admin org.ganesha.nfsd.admin.shutdown

The correct path is /usr/bin/dbus-send.

Fixing that causes the issue to go away.

There seem to be other systemd unit issues, but I haven't looked at them
yet.

For now we already agree on demotion from main - and cleaning up the

and discuss the latter sometime this week.

[Bug 1743296] [NEW] gnome-web-photo causes instability of FireFox

2018-01-14 Thread Jochen
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Mate 16.04.3 LTS
Release:16.04

gnome-web-photo (0.10.6-1)

After installing gnome-web-photo, Firefox became instable, but only when
loading saved HTML files from HD. Loading from internet caused no problem.
Loading one or two files (TAB) FF could still manage, but loading more caused
hanging of the whole system, CPU overload for even several minutes, sometimes
recovering or even complete Linux crash. Sometimes a message appears saying
that the script is damaged:

"script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:690"

Updating from "firefox (56.0+build6-0ubuntu0.16.04.2)" to
"57.0.1+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1" did not change anything. Deinstalling
gnome-web-photo solved the problem immediately.

[Bug 1741807] Re: NVIDIA Spectre attack fixes

2018-01-14 Thread Saxon Druce
Hi,

EGL seems to be broken in this update - the same bug as reported here
for 384.90-0ubuntu0.16.04.2:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-384/+bug/1731968

It was possible to work around the bug in 384.90-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 by
downgrading to 384.90-0ubuntu0.16.04.1, as described here:

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/47415198/missing-gl-version-from-
glewinit-using-egl/47527089#47527089

However with the release of this 384.111 update, 384.90 has been
superseded, and so it is no longer possible to use apt to downgrade to
384.90-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (although it can be done by manually downloading
and installing the old driver).

I was able to "fix" this bug by installing everything into a single

there is definitely something broken trying to install / on one drive,
that /somethingelse on another drive.

[Bug 1743279] Re: QCA6174 stops working on newer kernels after second group rekeying

2018-01-14 Thread André Brait Carneiro Fabotti
It's important to notice that this bugs affects any post-4.12 kernel, so
it's present in both 16.04.3 HWE and 17.10 versions.

** Description changed:

After upgrading to the 4.13 kernel on Ubuntu 16.04.3, I've noticed my
WiFi would stop working after every 20 minutes or so. The problem
initially seems related to some DNS services crashing because of what
happend in browsers and other software that usually rely on DNS but I've
noticed I couldn't ping my router and other local devices for which I
knew the IP addresses. The connection is still presented as being
connected, but it just doesn't work.

After googling a lot, I came across this question on askubuntu.com

  https://askubuntu.com/questions/967355/wifi-unstable-after-17-10-update

- While led me to this bug report on Debian's bug tracker:
+ Which led me to this bug report on Debian's bug tracker:

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=879184

Which led me to this bug in upstream:

  http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/ath10k/2017-September/010088.html

I've tested the proposed fixes myself and I can confirm they work.

What causes the WiFi to stop working is a bug related to the group
- rekeying routines. Updating the board-2.bin and firmware-6.bin from
- kvalo's git repository for version RM4.4.1 has worked for me and for
- other users as well.
+ rekeying routines.

- It seems it only happend in >4.12 kernels, hence why I've only had
+ It seems it only happens in >4.12 kernels, hence why I've only had
problems after 4.13 was pushed as the current rolling HWE kernel for
  16.04.3.

- The files were fetched from https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmware as
- of this date, as of commit 35d8642f452827b955470de4ac997ffe906a6f17,

+ kvalo made the fix available in version WLAN.RM.4.4.1-00051-QCARMSWP-1
+ of the firmware-6.bin file, which is the current one present in
+ upstream.

- 8fcc6b96c1895bc227c3caf0bd04b23d0292f8f919e819e4e025e29ef4b44d8e board-2.bin

firmware-6.bin_WLAN.RM.4.4.1-00065-QCARMSWP-1
+ Updating the firmware-6.bin and board-2.bin to any version equal or
+ later than that fixes the issue completely.

- It seems firmware-6.bin_WLAN.RM.4.4.1-00079-QCARMSWPZ-1 (sha256sum
- 5554d6aa0de07394938a0094bae725ed24d4ceee3b38c849b4099a496ec50b48) works
- as well.
+ -
+
+ SRU Justification:
+ [Impact]
+ Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter, available in
numerous laptops, including ones that ship with Ubuntu 16.04 pre-installed,
silently stops working after the second group rekeying, which is usually few
minutes after the user has connected to a WiFi network. The connection status
remains unchanged but there's no connectivity at all. This effectively
disconnects the user without notifying it of what's occurred.
+
+ Additionally, this happens for the only HWE kernel that's been patched
+ against the recent Meltdown vulnerability, leaving the user without the
+ option of using a recent kernel and a secure kernel at the same time.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ After applying the required firmwares, check if the connectivity is
unaffected after the second group rekeying, which can be checked with
+
+ $ cat /var/log/syslog | grep wpa_.*rekeying
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The new firmware overwrites the old one, but since it's been in upstream
since October 2017, it should be good.

[Bug 1743058] Re: In multiple apps, the input field "jumps"

2018-01-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As far as I can tell, this is either an 'st' (Shell Toolkit in gnome-
shell, also used on the login screen) bug, or an issue with our theming
which is patched into gnome-shell.

The same st gnome-shell code is used in security prompts. So I think
this bug lays entirely within gnome-shell and not the other components.

it seems the fix for this particular issue was made available in version
WLAN.RM.4.4.1-00051-QCARMSWP-1. Updating board-2.bin and firmware-6.bin
as in what's available in the upstream for firmware-linux right now
should fix the issue.

I just lost a good chunk of my evening to this. I'm using native IPv6
from my upstream ISP and therefore do not have control of rDNS. I was
expecting the documented behavior and didn't realize I'd hit a bug until
on a lark I added the IP address of the NFS server to the client's
/etc/hosts file.

[Bug 1743279] [NEW] QCA6174 stops working on newer kernels after second group rekeying

2018-01-14 Thread André Brait Carneiro Fabotti
Public bug reported:

While led me to this bug report on Debian's bug tracker:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=879184

Which led me to this bug in upstream:

http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/ath10k/2017-September/010088.html

I've tested the proposed fixes myself and I can confirm they work.

What causes the WiFi to stop working is a bug related to the group
rekeying routines. Updating the board-2.bin and firmware-6.bin from
kvalo's git repository for version RM4.4.1 has worked for me and for
other users as well.

It seems it only happend in >4.12 kernels, hence why I've only had
problems after 4.13 was pushed as the current rolling HWE kernel for
16.04.3.

The files were fetched from https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmware as
of this date, as of commit 35d8642f452827b955470de4ac997ffe906a6f17,
with the following sha256 sums:

8fcc6b96c1895bc227c3caf0bd04b23d0292f8f919e819e4e025e29ef4b44d8e board-2.bin
30fc3db3af9ba9f3b88e523fe39b715826a31738d48ca01a3fad0d14f7e46e20
firmware-6.bin_WLAN.RM.4.4.1-00065-QCARMSWP-1

It seems firmware-6.bin_WLAN.RM.4.4.1-00079-QCARMSWPZ-1 (sha256sum
5554d6aa0de07394938a0094bae725ed24d4ceee3b38c849b4099a496ec50b48) works
as well.

[Bug 1742602] Re: Blank screen when starting X after upgrading from 4.10 to 4.13.0-26

2018-01-14 Thread Tim Starling
I booted various mainline kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D

* 4.11.12: works
* 4.12.14: fails
* 4.13.16: fails
* 4.14.2: works
* 4.14.13: works
* 4.15-rc7: works

So it would seem that the issue was introduced upstream in 4.12 and
fixed in 4.14.

I tested it again with the regular Gnome-based Ubuntu desktop, and it
exhibits the same bug, so i changed the title accordingly. It seems
there is no connection to the flatpak problem.

[Bug 1719134] Re: Shouldn't create /usr/local/bin/firefox and thunderbird

2018-01-14 Thread Christopher A. Chavez
I encountered this bug while trying to open a local HTML file, and
because of $@ rather than "$@" being used in the wrapper, any spaces in
the filename or path causes multiple tabs to be opened (each with
incomplete portions of the path).

Would it be possible to provide this fix for 17.10?

[Bug 1273752] Re: Can't Copy Crash Report Details to Clipboard

2018-01-14 Thread mgsloan
Agreed that this should really be resolved. It is particularly
problematic for packages that are not in ubuntu repos - when submitting
bug reports to 3rd parties.

It would also be far easier to check if the report is leaking any
secrets if you could easily open it in a text editor and use ctrl+f. I
suppose that wouldn't handle the coredump bits, but eh.

[Bug 1743270] [NEW] consecutive critical failures in the main functions of the system

2018-01-14 Thread leac
Public bug reported:

Laptop - Lenovo Flex 2-15
Operating system Ubuntu 16.04
After the update, after some time, the mouse scrolling on the trackpad stopped
scrolling, after the system restart, duplication of keys ceased to work
(methods from the Internet for restoring the functionality do not help),
after the second reboot the keyboard and the external mouse stopped working at
all
Full reinstallation of the system (without the working keyboard there is only
this option)
After some time, the problems are repeated only in a slightly different order,
this time first the duplication of the jammed keys is refused, and then the
trackpad scrolls.
I did not reboot the system again, so as not to kill it again, so I'm waiting
for your answer

[Bug 1743269] [NEW] P-state not working in kernel 4.13

2018-01-14 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X230 with an Intel Core i5-3210M CPU. I'm using
Xubuntu 17.10 (Description:Ubuntu 17.10, Release: 17.10). I use tlp
1.0-1~artful in order to improve battery performance, particularly
enabling the Intel P-state performance scaling. In Xubuntu 17.04 it
worked flawlessly, but when I upgraded to 17.10 the processor doesn't
scale anymore. I ran all the updates and it's not working. I also did a
clean install using another hard drive and the problem persist.

I searched the tlp forums and similar problems pointed to a kernel bug,
so I'm filing this report.

I tested different mainline kernels in order to see what kernel version
is causing the problem:

Up to mainline kernel 4.12.14 generic, P-state scaling is OK
Kernel 4.13 generic up to kernel 4.14.12 generic, P-state scaling is not working
Kernel 4.14.13 generic up to 4.15 rc7 generic, P-state scaling is OK

[Bug 1731768] Re: Random desktop freeze

2018-01-14 Thread Richard Ayres
I've also experienced a similar issue, mouse stops working and requires
switch to another console, multiple times running 16.04LTS and later
(I'm currently on 17.10). It is a major issue for those afflicted.

I've rolled back to NVidia 304.135 and haven't had any mouse/screen
issues since.
