[Bug 1743797] Re: Xorg not recognizing AMD graphics card

2018-01-17 Thread Timo Aaltonen
putting 'radeon.modeset=0' to kernel options is what disables all hw
acceleration

if it doesn't boot properly without that, you need to test a newer
kernel, so try installing 'linux-generic-hwe-16.04'

resolved in the 16.04 LTS) or backport the change from 5.1.19..

i did the backport and it works with 4.13.

The VHD contains Hyper-V-specific customisations (such as the
linux-azure kernel), so there is a compelling reason to want to use it.

Re: [Bug 1743300] Re: libguestfs not work anymore with 4.13.0-26-generic #29~16.04.2-Ubuntu

2018-01-17 Thread Oliver
Debian has already 5.1.19 in the repo. Ubuntu is on 5.1.14.

I took the patch and applied it to the ubuntu version 5.1.14, generated
the packages and it worked with the 4.13 kernel

#29~16.04.2-Ubuntu

You've truncated the full log, but I'm going to bet the problem is this
6+ month old bug in supermin which Ubuntu hasn't fixed yet:

https://github.com/libguestfs/supermin/commit/158854e3ba4be7f6b8d81f662ddad98358ede1de

Solutions in decreasing order of preference:

 - Upgrade supermin to latest.

 - Backport just the above patch to supermin.

 - Go back to < 4.13 kernel.

[Bug 1743966] Re: Trusty deployments fail when custom archives are configured

2018-01-17 Thread Christian Reis
There are at least two ways this could be fixed:

1. To backport the cloud-init change to Trusty; note that cloud-init is
backwards-compatible and widely tested, but also widely in use
2. To have MAAS generate stanzas in both formats, selecting the right one
according to the ephemeral environment being used.

It would be worth considering what will happen as cloud-init continues
to evolve and our LTS backlog grows due to ESM.

[Bug 1742867] Re: Screen blank, audio choppy, system locked

2018-01-17 Thread clickwir
I tried 4.15 rc8, same result. Went back one rev from my GRUB to
4.13.0-21 and saw the same result. Looking at the dmesg and syslog
output, there were a lot of references to the video system. Grabbed
another video card, slightly older and put that in. The fan on the one
that came out didn't feel like it was spinning as freely as I would
assume.

Card may have simply been overheating when playing YouTube. New card has
almost 1 hour of YouTube playback now with no problems on 4.13.0-25.

Odd that this issue happened right with the reboot to the newer kernel,
but if that's all it was then job done. If I see any of the same
behavior I will post again.

[Bug 1743966] [NEW] Trusty deployments fail when custom archives are configured

2018-01-17 Thread Christian Reis
Public bug reported:

TLDR: when MAAS is configured to use custom archives, Trusty deployments
fail.

When custom archive configurations are in use, MAAS renders cloud-init
config which cloud-init reads in order to set up apt details.

The cloud-init config format it renders is only compatible with the
cloud-init in Xenial. That version is currently:

  0.7.9-153-g16a7302f-0ubuntu1~16.04.2

It looks something like this:

apt:
  source1:
  source: "deb http://packages.chef.io/repos/apt/stable
  $RELEASE main"
  key: |
-BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-

I fetched that example from
http://cloudinit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/topics/examples.html

The cloud-init version in Trusty is 0.7.5-0ubuntu1.22 and the equivalent
stanza looks like this:

apt_sources:
 - source: "deb http://apt.opscode.com/ $RELEASE-0.10 main"
key: |
 -BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-

I fetched that example from
http://cloudinit.readthedocs.io/en/0.7.7/topics/examples.html

Looking at src/maasserver/compose_preseed.py:get_archive_config() it
seems that MAAS only supports the Xenial-hosted version's format. That
breaks the custom archives feature.

And the manpage is clear enough:
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/artful/man8/popularity-contest.8.html

That said, the 'opt-in' removal you are pointing, is the normal usual
app life evolution that user have to understand.

There is no bug here, only your old routine you can discuss with devs on
askubuntu if you still need.

[Bug 1730150] Re: Nautilus unable to see the storage in my Fuji HS30EXR PTP canera since upgrading from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10

2018-01-17 Thread Alan
Update

On learning that a Nautilus upgrade for Ubuntu is unlikely in the
forseeable future, today I installed gphoto2, gphotofs and gtkam on one
of my Ubuntu 17.10 computers, then re-tested the Fuji camera.

When the camera is connected to a USB port, no notification appears and no PTP
camera device appears in the Nautilus side bar.
The output of lsusb displays the camera maker's name "Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd"
in the line relating to the camera's USB port.
Gtkam's "Add Camera" dialog can display the camera's make and model when
clicking on the "Detect" button, but clicking the "OK" button gives a "Could
not initialise camera" dialog.
The "gphoto2 --auto-detect" command generates the camera's make, model and USB
port in its output. However the commands "gphoto2 --summary", "gphoto2
--list-files" and "gphoto2 --get-all-files" each return (in part):

"An error occurred in the io-library ('Unspecified error'): No error
description available
 *** Error (-1: 'Unspecified error') ***".

As of today, Ubuntu 17.04 and Fedora 27 are still mounting and reading
the files on the camera correctly (Nautilus 3.20.4 and 3.26.4
respectively). Note the problem was observed in Fedora 26 but not in
Fedora 25

[Bug 1575779] Re: hostnamectl fails under lxd unpriv container

2018-01-17 Thread tonyk
Comment on post #12 above (as one cannot edit):

Step 4 can be omitted as I don't think the service needs to be
restarted.

I think the hostnamectl command starts this service on demand when
changing the hostname.

[Bug 1575779] Re: hostnamectl fails under lxd unpriv container

2018-01-17 Thread tonyk
Thanks for that PrivateNetwork=no hint - works like a charm!

For those that need this, follow the steps below:

1. systemctl edit systemd-hostnamed

Add the 2 lines below then exit the editor (don't forget to save when
prompted):

   [Service]
   PrivateNetwork=no

2. This will create an override.conf file with the above 2 lines in the
directory:

   /etc/systemd/system/systemd-hostnamed.service.d/

3. The update systemd:

   systemctl daemon-reload

4. Then restart the service:

   systemctl restart systemd-hostnamed

You should now be able to run hostnamectl without it hanging.

[Bug 1729389] Re: Bluetooth mouse and keyboard connects, works for a few seconds, then doesn't react

2018-01-17 Thread Matthew Senn
I have been having issues since my "new" laptop (Dell Latitude E5470)
arrived in April 2017. I blamed it on being a refurb and being too lazy
to call and have it replaced during the warranty period. I checked the
box to enable the pre-release updates, installed said updates and
haven't had an issue in almost two days -- i couldn't make it two
minutes prior. I sure missed my BT keyboard and mouse!

[Bug 1743946] [NEW] kexec reboot = NMI: PCI system error (SERR) for reason a1 on CPU 0

2018-01-17 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

On 16.04 with linux-image-lowlatency-hwe-16.04 amd64 (currently
4.13.0-30-lowlatency) with kexec-tools default-configured to handle
reboots with the current kernel version (no GRUB detect) and
/proc/cmdline.

The system freezes either permanently (requiring a hard power-off) or
for tens of seconds, showing (copied from a photograph):

kexec_core: Starting new kernel
nouveau :01:00.0: DRM: GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon
NMI: PCI system error (SERR) for reason a1 on CPU 0.
Dazed and confused, but trying to continue

Due to the nature of the failure there is no additional logging or
clues. I tried "nopti" in case recent 'Meltdown' changes were
responsible but it still happens. I've only just enabled kexec on this
system so have no historical indications of it having worked.

System is Dell XPS M1530, Core 2 Duo T9300, 4GB RAM

[Bug 1743939] [NEW] Canon MF8380 Wireless Network Not Printing

2018-01-17 Thread Scott Stehno
Public bug reported:

A Canon MF8380CDW printer will not print any thing after upgrading to
17.10. I ran all the steps from this
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems web site.

I have attached a lot of log files. Not sure which one is needed. The
printer did work back under 15.10 or 16.04 but took a lot to get it
fixed to work then. I have tried to print from 18.04 and it has the
same problem with this printer.

[Bug 1743872] Re: Not work 802.11ac WLAN Adapter

2018-01-17 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Seems like there's no in-tree driver support.

A quick google shows that `rtl8812au-dkms` might support it.
0bda:a811 is not in it's usb_device_id table, so you need to manually edit it.

[Bug 97722] Re: Windows dual-boot can corrupt system clock even if time servers are enabled

2018-01-17 Thread Dan Bryant
I am not sure if my issue would have the same bug report number or not
but I did a search and this bug is very close to the same issue I am
having. I am using dual boot with grub2, windows 7 and Ubuntu Mate 17. I
mainly use windows and the clock works fine reboot after reboot no
issues, and when I boot into Mate the clock works fine and has the
correct time, but then when I boot back to windows the time displayed is
6 hours ahead, and if it goes unnoticed it will stay that way until I
change it. This is getting very annoying, as all my previuos installs of
Ubuntu and Linux on the same machine and same version of windows I did
not have this problem, even after the latest updates to 17.10 I continue
to have this issue. This should be a simple fix?

[Bug 1575802] Re: default dependancy should be python3-powerline

2018-01-17 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Scott, or anyone else affected,

Accepted powerline into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/powerline/2.3-1ubuntu0 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

then do

This removes the packages listed in the first command and thus resolves

[Bug 1743929] [NEW] Kernel upgrade failing, trying to install Xenial Kernel, I am running Trusty

As you can see, I am running lts-Trusty, it has repeatedly tried to
install a kernel upgrade for lts-Xenial. It has filled up my boot, and
I am getting messages to delete files to make room or something like
that. I am a novice user. Now my software manager also does not work,
it is failing installation of new software.

When the kernel upgrade to 4.4.0-109 fails I get the following error

[Bug 1743928] [NEW] Duplicate Items When Pinning Favorites

2018-01-17 Thread mcsd
Public bug reported:

https://twitter.com/momophitas/status/953790060213817344

I recorded a video and uploaded it to Twitter for a more concise
explanation. But essentially, I installed a fresh install of 17.10 from
the date of posting (1/17/18, move date to far right. So weird.) of this
bug report. I try to drag the program after searching for it over to the
bar but nothing. Then I try and use the right-click add to favorites
which just makes duplicates of the program. (Ted Crockett Bible gif).
Maybe I'm missing something like Ted Crockett? *blink *blink

2018-01-17 Thread Bob Davis
How do I remove this bug?

sudo apt-get -f autoremove or sudo apt-get -f remove does not remove
this bug.

Here is the Google TTS process to have this issue, how can I undo all of
this?

Google TTS

Pico, mbrola, cmu, festival, flite, all SUCK in 2017 (They were amazing
in the 90s). AT natural speech (which is fantastic) isn't linux compat
and it's not free, therefore we use Google

git clone https://github.com/Glutanimate/simple-google-tts.git

sudo apt install xsel libnotify-bin libttspico0 libttspico-utils
libttspico-data libwww-perl libwww-mechanize-perl libhtml-tree-perl so$

above sudo apt install created this bug on Ubuntu 16.04 i386.
I did not do the following below.

cd simple-google-tts

sudo ln -s 'pwd'/simple_google_tts /usr/local/bin

simple_google_tts en "Text to speech is now installed"

cd -

[Bug 1718658] Re: ecryptfs-mount-private fails to initialize ecryptfs keys

2018-01-17 Thread Forest
This is a systemd bug, created by this commit:

https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/74dd6b5

It looks like poettering has attempted to address it in more recent
versions of systemd (though that doesn't help us in ubuntu 17.10):

Here's a simple patch to disable the broken systemd feature, and restore
ecryptfs functionality.

[Bug 1718658] Re: ecryptfs-mount-private fails to initialize ecryptfs keys

2018-01-17 Thread Forest
The ecryptfs-manager workaround helps the mount to succeed, but (at
least in my case) the system refuses to unmount it afterward. This is a
problem for those of us who open our ecryptfs volumes only for as long
as they're needed.

[Bug 1739880] Re: on wayland, mpv opens without window elements, OSD missing

2018-01-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the heads up.

If there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution in mpv 0.28 then I'll need
to author/patch one in... or we can just stick to 0.27. But probably the
former.

mpv is great, but if Ubuntu is to be "for human beings" then we need to
make it easier to use. So it should just work automatically. I would
prefer not resort to vaapi-copy though, because last time I checked that
incurred an order of magnitude higher CPU usage than plain vaapi.
