[Bug 1452202] Re: ubuntu preseed install fails to set a hostname

2018-01-24 Thread Hua Zhang
Hi Eric,

I think your proposal '-w' is good, so I will change to use:

if ! echo "$RET" | grep -qw 'ubuntu'; then

Mathieu,

How about using '/b' ? I mean using the following regex

/bin/sed -i "s/\b${CURRENT_HOSTNAME}\b/${NETCFG_HOSTNAME}/g" /etc/hosts

I have done some test below:

hua@t440p:~$ echo "node" | sed "s/\bnode\b/newnode/g"
newnode
hua@t440p:~$ echo "node." | sed "s/\bnode\b/newnode/g"
newnode.
hua@t440p:~$ echo "node.me.com" | sed "s/\bnode\b/newnode/g"
newnode.me.com
hua@t440p:~$ echo "ipv6-allnodes" | sed "s/\bnode\b/newnode/g"
ipv6-allnodes
hua@t440p:~$ echo "ipv6-allnodes node node.me.com node2 node2.me.com" | sed
"s/\bnode\b/newnode/g"
ipv6-allnodes newnode newnode.me.com node2 node2.me.com

any thoughts ?

[Bug 1744722] Re: Unknown bad source brings up during 'zesty' to 'artful' upgrade and It break the process

2018-01-24 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
@ZdravkoG, to answer your question in comment #10. The fix has to be
reviewed and eventually approved, then uploaded to the development
release (bionic), then to artful-proposed, verified and accepted to
finally be in artful updates and publish a new release upgrader tarball
on archive.u.c. It takes time.

Thanks for your help on this bug and the valuable information you
provided.

[Bug 1745114] Re: Please add guest uuid and guest-generic local include files

2018-01-24 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Just now possible:
- Needs apparmor 2.12.1, 2.11.2, and 2.10.4
- So libvirt needs hard dependency on that
- New syntax is like:
  include if exists (<...>|"...")
so just like regular includes with "if exists" between the include and the
path

Next steps: wait until new apparmor is ready and then work on patches
for upstream.

Note: might need a compile time check on apparmor version it is built
against to not fail on older apparmor (OR the hard dependency in
packaging, but for upstream some config/compile time check would be
nicer).

[Bug 1745049] Re: Bumblebee crashes during boot with kernel 4.13.0.31 on Bionic

2018-01-24 Thread walkerstreet
I found out that the 4.13.0.31 kernel was from the artful security repo.
When I use 'dkms status' it shows that the bumblebee and nvidia kernel
modules appear to be present. I just tried booting with the 4.14.0.31
kernel again. This time it did not crash. However, it appeared that my
graphics card lost its' capability and the screen was drawing windows
very slowly. I lost my ability to change the screen resolution. I
think there is something wrong with kernel 4.13.0.31.

[Bug 1736116] Re: Host with kernel 4.13 freezes when starting a VM with VirtualBox

2018-01-24 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
@LocutusOfBorg, first of all, thank you very much for your continuous
effort in maintaining VirtualBox.

After you mentioned that "upstream vbox ships a custom qt version", I asked
about it in #vbox, and they said:
> [...] qt5 was pretty much unusable rubbish until 5.5/5.6. and then they
> decided to change the license for 5.7, which means that going there requires
> review by Oracle legal.
> [...] the "ship library" approach is what we use for the ubuntu LTS packages
> on virtualbox.org - slap a number of qt5.6 libs into the vbox package. which
> would cause seizures for a debian/ubuntu packager :P
And, talking about this particular issue,
> [...] to be accurate: we don't have the faintest idea why things blow up.

So unless Debian/Ubuntu somehow make an exception and allow us to ship Qt 5.6
in parallel with other Qt 5.x versions, either bundled with apps that need it,
or as a separate package...
...getting vbox 5.2.x to Ubuntu 16.04 isn't an easy task.

Thanks again!

drivers/misc/cxl/pci.c seems to have been heavily changed between Xenial

Public bug reported:

I just know something's amiss - I'm running Ubuntu 17.10 and got an
error report, which asked if I wanted to report it, so clicked on "OK"
-hopefully, there will be enough information included for you to make
something of it AND also eventually resolve it - it seems to me that
Ubuntu is getting buggier and buggier as time goes on?

Otherwise, I know squat about what is actually going on - this computer
is a Dell notebook that originally had Windows 7 on it, so I ended up
taking MS up on upgrading to Win8, not realizing what MS was actually
"giving me" was Win8 Beta, and when Win8 was actually released I'd be
required to reinstall Windows 7 once again - one I did attempt to
reinstall Windows(r) 7 from the supplied by Dell DVD, the driver for it
would no longer connect to the internet! So I've been running Ubuntu
ever since...

I can't tell you what actual program decided to crash.
This computer has an Intel 2-core processor in it that is multi-tasking as if
it were 4-cores. It has a label on it that says "Intel Core(tm)i5, is also
energy star compliant and came with Windows7, which WAS able to connect to the
internet when I got it...

Thanks in any case,

[Bug 1745258] Re: NFS shares from GUI window manager is read only regardless permission

2018-01-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1745258/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1745071] Re: Xenial update to 4.4.110 stable release

2018-01-24 Thread Khaled El Mously
Note also that the applied patch ("KPTI: Rename to ..") affects the file
"arch/x86/kernel/cpu/perf_event_intel_ds.c" which has been renamed in
our tree to "arch/x86/events/intel/ds.c". Therefore the patch had to be
modified slightly to change arch/x86/events/intel/ds.c instead of the
originally-intended file.

[Bug 1745071] Re: Xenial update to 4.4.110 stable release

2018-01-24 Thread Khaled El Mously
Note also that a few patches were referring to
arch/x86/include/asm/cpufeature.h , however, looking at the code it
appears the patches really should be applied (in our tree at least) to
arch/x86/include/asm/cpufeatures.h instead (has an extra 's' - plural).
Those patches basically had to be manually done

[Bug 1745070] Re: Decorations/headerbars are broken in bionic: double bar in Xorg logins and missing in Wayland logins

2018-01-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's not just that this bug was logged first, but a bug report should
detail the effects that users experience. This also helps other users
find the bug and avoid logging duplicates. So that's two reasons why
this should be the primary bug.

Daniel, Debian's gtk3-nocsd is supposed to disable itself when run in

Removing gtk3-nocsd fixed it. And compared to a laptop that never had

[Bug 1745273] [NEW] Cannot open gnome-terminal with long working directory name containing Unicode characters

2018-01-24 Thread Simon May
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using: Ubuntu 17.10

2) The version of the package you are using: 3.24.2-0ubuntu4

3) What you expected to happen: When opening a terminal window with a
long working directory path containing Unicode characters (such as
“/home/test/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/ä/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789”
in a 80×24 window), gnome-terminal opens normally.

4) What happened instead: gnome-terminal closes immediately, both when opened
using
gnome-terminal
--working-directory=/home/test/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/ä/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789
and when changing to this directory using “cd”. There is no output on stderr or
anywhere else, the window just closes.

This makes it impossible to use gnome-terminal for many directories with
long paths. This did NOT happen in Ubuntu 16.04.

2018-01-24 Thread Scott Moser
I've marked this 'Fix Released' in xenial as Ubuntu's package in xenial
at 0.6.5.6-0ubuntu3 which has the fix at [1] as mentioned in comment 29.
Further, my experience with our zfs work in curtin indicates that it is
fixed.

[Bug 1745268] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.113 stable release

2018-01-24 Thread Khaled El Mously
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.113 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu

[Bug 1745271] [NEW] Input prompt behaves incorrectly if working directory path spans two lines

2018-01-24 Thread Simon May
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using: Ubuntu 17.10

2) The version of the package you are using: 3.24.2-0ubuntu4

3) What you expected to happen: The input prompt should behave the same,
no matter what the working directory is.

4) What happened instead: The cursor starts overlapping the working
directory text (see attached screenshot, which shows a 80×24 terminal
window in a directory called
“/home/test/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/a/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789/01234567890123456789”).

On text input, the inputted text overwrites the working directory text.
When pressing backspace, the entire second line is deleted (including
the $ character). This makes using the history (up arrow) very confusing
because afterwards, the actual input line characters do not seem to
correspond to the displayed text anymore, i.e. characters inserted at a
certain point are actually shifted in the resulting line, making it very
difficult to properly type in commands.

[Bug 1745266] Re: Xenial update to 4.4.112 stable release

2018-01-24 Thread Khaled El Mously
Note that a few patches were referring to
arch/x86/include/asm/cpufeature.h , however, looking at the code it
appears the patches really should be applied to
arch/x86/include/asm/cpufeatures.h instead (has an extra 's' - plural).
Those patches basically had to be manually done.

[Bug 1729389] Re: [Intel 8260/8265] Bluetooth peripherals work for a few seconds, then don't react

2018-01-24 Thread Drew Rosoff
I had previously worked around this problem using the solution in
comment #17. Now I just upgraded to linux-firmware 1.157.15, as I saw
it in my Ubuntu Xenial updates and it referenced fixing this bug. I
therefore removed the workaround in comment #17 and rebooted. The
problem returned immediately (I tried multiple reboots and reconnects).
Bluetooth still disconnects after a period of time if wifi is also
connected. I had to reinstate the workaround in comment #17 again to
have a working mouse, even with the new linux-firmware update. I am
using Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.13.0-31.
