[Bug 1742675] Re: after upgrade to linux-image-extra-4.13.0-26-generic the system does not start at all

2018-01-27 Thread Lou
I am also affected - all version of 4.13 released so far do not boot. I
also have reverted to 4.10.0.42. Xubuntu 16.04.3 installed on Dell
e6430 laptop Intel/nVidia Graphics no dual-boot. I would echo the
sentiments of an earlier poster - how can this continue through 3+
releases with no resolution in sight?

[Bug 1721428] Re: Artful (17.10) Session logout after screen turned off

2018-01-27 Thread smk
Switching from Wayland to Xorg in Gnome Session not only solved the session
logout problem, but also a more serious one, namely, the computer becoming
completely unresponsive after suspend, leaving me with no alternative but to
force shut down the computer and restarting. Overall the computer works better
on Xorg than on Wayland.
I have Ubuntu 17.10 installed on a new Dell Insipiron 15 5000 series laptop.

[Bug 1745740] [NEW] [Xenial] Update to kernel 4.4.0-112-generic make the system failed to boot with enabled BIOS SecureBoot mode

2018-01-27 Thread Taihsiang Ho
Public bug reported:

[Description]

After updating from 4.4.0-111 to the latest 4.4.0-112, the system with
enabled BIOS SecureBoot mode will fail to boot because of "Operating
System Loading signature not found in SecureBoot database" prompted by
BIOS (See the attachment picture)

[Steps to Reproduce]

1. Prepare a system installed with 16.04.1 and enabled BIOS SecureBoot mode.
2. Update the system (over the Update manager GUI or "apt-get dist-upgrade")
3. Reboot the system to make the update effective.

[Expected Result]

The system gets ready to use after reboot.

[Actual Result]

The system stops at the BIOS stage with the prompted message "Operating
System Loading signature not found in SecureBoot database" prompted by
BIOS (See the attachment picture)

[Reproducible Systems]

So far I reproduced this issue on the following machine:

CID 201410-15915 - Dell XPS 13 9343
CID 201610-25147 - Dell OptiPlex 7450 AIO
(potential candidate[1]) - CID 201610-25144 - Dell Precision 5520
(potential candidate) - CID 201606-22338 - Dell XPS 13 9360

[1] "potential candidate" means the system failed to boot after system
update but have not identified it was encountered the same issue.

[Bug 1717015] Re: libc resolver stops searching domain search list after getting back NSEC record

2018-01-27 Thread Jonathan Kamens
I uninstalled libnss-resolve and the problem persists:

$ sudo apt-get remove libnss-resolve
...
$ sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches
$ host jik5
Host jik5.quantopian.com not found: 2(SERVFAIL)
$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
# 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
# run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

nameserver 127.0.0.53
search quantopian.com kamens.us
$

Note that "Just don't use libnss-resolve" wouldn't be a very good answer
to this problem even if it worked, because things like openvpn-systemd-
resolved, which I use, depend on it.

consoles. Everything seemed to be running normally apart from the display.
After some experimentation I confirmed it was the 4.13.0-32.35 kernel, I
reverted to 4.10.0.28-generic and all was good.

[Bug 816739] Re: kicad warps mouse

2018-01-27 Thread Jeff Young
Interesting. Warps back when accessed via right-click-context-menu-
properties, but not when accessed via hover-hotkey-E. Same for Move
Exactly vs. cmd-M, etc.

The warp after a context menu invokes an interactive tool is clearly
useful. Probably not after a dialog.

This bug report is too unwieldy to get attention, though, so I'm going
to log it as a new issue and close this one again. (New bug:

[Bug 1726299] Re: Apple Thunderbolt 2 to FireWire adapter not working

2018-01-27 Thread Kristian Amlie
I can confirm that this is not fixed in kernel v4.15-rc1.

I can see the device:

---
$ cat /sys/bus/thunderbolt/devices/0-1/device_name
Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter
---

.. but it doesn't show up in lspci, and it doesn't look like drivers can
bind to it (I'm trying with libffado). Cold- or hotplugging makes no
difference, the result is the same.

[Bug 1336521] Re: Application Startup Notify fully ignored

2018-01-27 Thread Lorenzo Ancora
Chris J Arges,
4 years have passed but thank you for your support. :-)

The startup notification now works but has some big flaws.
Since this is a patch to openbox I will do the tests in a stable and
standard-compliant environment to see if the bug persists or not.

Environment: Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) with XFCE 4 + Openbox 3.6.1-4 +
notification-daemon installed
Hardware: Core i5, 8Gb RAM

CHANGELOG:
openbox (3.6.1-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * debian/control:
+ Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.8.
+ Use secured links for VCS.
+ Add libxcursor-dev to B-D. (Closes: #838326, LP: #1336521)

NOTE: "LP: #1336521" is *this* bug in notifications.

Tests:

[Test Case 1]

 0. Started cpulimit to limit the execution to 3% of the total CPU power.
 1. Started Cheese 3.22.1 with startup notifications enabled (manually enabled
from desktop file) from a desktop file.
 2. No spinning cursor at all.

Failed.

[Test Case 2]

 0. Started cpulimit to limit the execution to 10% of the total CPU power.
 1. Started Cheese 3.22.1 with startup notifications enabled (manually enabled
from desktop file) from a desktop file.
 2. No spinning cursor at all.

Failed.

[Test Case 3]

 1. Started IDLE 3.5.3 with startup notifications enabled (default) from a
desktop file.
 2. The spinning cursor appears only on the window and lasts for many seconds.
The application has been started and the user can already work... but the
cursor keeps spinning.

Failed?

[...many other tests with similar results, sometimes it works, other
times does not]

I do not know where the problem is (changelog says the issue was
closed...) but I cannot say that the startup notification is correctly
supported.

Still, I am grateful for your efforts.

Regards,
Lorenzo

[Bug 1745727] [NEW] Wifi stops working on Del XPS 9360

2018-01-27 Thread Niklas Volcz
Public bug reported:

I am running a a Dell XPS 9360 laptop and the wifi started to sometime "hang"
this week after an update (not sure which one).
Running Ubuntu 17.10 (upgraded from Gnome Ubuntu recently)
$lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10

I observed that five~ error messages like these popup from time to time in
dmesg:
[ 6000.482060] pcieport :00:1c.4: AER: Corrected error received: id=00e4
[ 6000.482082] pcieport :00:1c.4: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected,

status/mask=1000/2000
[ 6000.482105] pcieport :00:1c.4:[12] Replay Timer Timeout

A similar report exists for errors like this: 1521173 but not sure if it
is related to the wifi problem. Most commenters in that report runs
Realtek Wifi adapters while I have ath.

Removing and adding the ath_pci module or disabling and enabling wifi with
network manager seems to fix the issue for a while:
$ sudo modprobe -r ath10k_pci
$ sudo modprobe ath10k_pci

ClamAV 0.99.3 has been released!
Join us as we welcome ClamAV 0.99.3 to the family!

As previously mentioned, if you downloaded the beta version of ClamAV
0.99.3, you will need to completely uninstall it and do a fresh install
with the production version of 0.99.3 as there are significant code
differences.

Also, please ensure that you read our blog post on ClamAV Version Number
Adjustments to ensure that you are staying current with our future plans
for releases.

This release is a security release and is recommended for all ClamAV
users. Please see details below:

CVE-2017-12374
1. ClamAV UAF (use-after-free) Vulnerabilities

The ClamAV AntiVirus software versions 0.99.2 and prior contain a
vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to
cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.

The vulnerability is due to a lack of input validation checking
mechanisms during certain mail parsing operations. If successfully
exploited, the ClamAV software could allow a variable pointing to the
mail body which could cause a used after being free (use-after-free)
instance which may lead to a disruption of services on an affected
device to include a denial of service condition.

CVE-2017-12375
2. ClamAV Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

The ClamAV AntiVirus software versions 0.99.2 and prior contain a
vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to
cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.

The vulnerability is due to a lack of input validation checking
mechanisms during certain mail parsing functions. An unauthenticated,
remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted
email to the affected device. This action could cause a buffer overflow
condition when ClamAV scans the malicious email, allowing the attacker
to potentially cause a DoS condition on an affected device.

3. ClamAV Buffer Overflow in handle_pdfname Vulnerability

ClamAV AntiVirus software versions 0.99.2 and prior contain a
vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to
cause a denial of service (DoS) condition or potentially execute
arbitrary code on an affected device.

The vulnerability is due to improper input validation checking
mechanisms when handling Portable Document Format (.pdf) files sent to
an affected device. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit
this vulnerability by sending a crafted .pdf file to an affected device.
This action could cause a buffer overflow when ClamAV scans the
malicious file, allowing the attacker to cause a DoS condition or
potentially execute arbitrary code.

ClamAV AntiVirus software versions 0.99.2 and prior contain a
vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to
cause a denial of service (DoS) condition or potentially execute
arbitrary code on an affected device.

The vulnerability is due to improper input validation checking
mechanisms in mew packet files sent to an affected device. A successful
exploit could cause a heap overflow condition when ClamAV scans the
malicious file, allowing the attacker to cause a DoS condition or

5. ClamAV Buffer Over Read Vulnerability

ClamAV AntiVirus software versions 0.99.2 and prior contain a
vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to
cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.

The vulnerability is due to improper input validation checking
mechanisms of .tar (Tape Archive) files sent to an affected device. A
successful exploit could cause a buffer over-read condition when ClamAV
scans the malicious .tar file, potentially allowing the attacker to
cause a DoS condition on the affected device.

[Bug 1745491] Re: [bionic] Dependency Hell

2018-01-27 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I was unable to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu bionic. Sometimes when
new package versions are rolled out, the archive mirrors get out of sync
on some packages which can lead to temporary issues like this. Could you
please run `sudo apt update` and see if this resolves your problem? If
the issue is still present, please attach the output of `apt policy
libwebkit2gtk-4.0-dev libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37". This will tells us which
package versions are available for your system.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Expand on when you might want to set --max-count for map_instances

The default behavior for the "nova-manage cell_v2 map_instances"
command is to map all instances in the cell in batches of 50.

This can be slow when there are several thousand instances in the
deployment and an operator may want to specify a higher --max-count
value and run the command until it completes.

This simply updates the command option description and man page to
point this out for consideration.

[Bug 1731646] Re: missing qDebug output when creating QT applications

2018-01-27 Thread Yusef Maali
I upgraded from 17.04 to 17.10 just yesterday and I was affected from
the same issue.

I'm sorry to say, @mitya57, you intentionally broke the qDebug _default_
behaviour (and Fedora as well).
qDebug()'ing something should result in printing in the console output.

If there's issues with some applications that result in too much verbose
output, should be fixed in those applications, not shutting up the whole
QT qDebug.

Anyway, this should be warned to the user in some way during the
upgrade.

just my 2 cents.

[Bug 1745723] [NEW] kate package indirectly depends on libvlccore8

2018-01-27 Thread Tim Passingham
Public bug reported:

Installing Kate (on ubuntu 17.10, wayland) works fine. However, there's
a dependency that's going to cause difficulties, as follows:

kate -> plasma-framework -> libkf5notifications5 -> phonon4qt5 ->
phonon4qt5-backend-vlc -> libvlccore8

So Kate now indirectly depends on a VLC package. VLC is moving on, and
in version 4.0 installs libvlccore9. This gives a conflict since it
seems both versions of libvlccore cannot co-exist.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to know whether two versions of such a
package should in principle be able to co-exist, but currently they
can't, which means Kate and VLC 4 conflict and cannot both be installed
at the same time from ppas.

I've got around this for myself by compiling and installing Kate locally
(not without minor problems with the run-time instructions for env.sh
which seem not to work exactly as specified).

For me the workaround is to use the xorg session. Both the gnome and the
ubuntu session then works.

[Bug 1690541] Re: Scrolled windows in update-manager are too small to read

2018-01-27 Thread Fredrik Jacobsson
Workaround to get some terminal output:

Disable automatic downloads of updated files. The key here is that you
need to show details on progress during the download phase as the bug
affects the download progress window too, otherwise you'll get the "one-
liner".

This bug show itself when:
displaying the download progress area
displaying the terminal output
showing the changes to a configuration file
when doing a Dist upgrade
