[Bug 1745740] [NEW] [Xenial] Update to kernel 4.4.0-112-generic make the system failed to boot with enabled BIOS SecureBoot mode
Public bug reported: [Description] After updating from 4.4.0-111 to the latest 4.4.0-112, the system with enabled BIOS SecureBoot mode will fail to boot because of "Operating System Loading signature not found in SecureBoot database" prompted by BIOS (See the attachment picture) [Steps to Reproduce] 1. Prepare a system installed with 16.04.1 and enabled BIOS SecureBoot mode. 2. Update the system (over the Update manager GUI or "apt-get dist-upgrade") 3. Reboot the system to make the update effective. [Expected Result] The system gets ready to use after reboot. [Actual Result] The system stops at the BIOS stage with the prompted message "Operating System Loading signature not found in SecureBoot database" prompted by BIOS (See the attachment picture) [Reproducible Systems] So far I reproduced this issue on the following machine: CID 201410-15915 - Dell XPS 13 9343 CID 201610-25147 - Dell OptiPlex 7450 AIO (potential candidate[1]) - CID 201610-25144 - Dell Precision 5520 (potential candidate) - CID 201606-22338 - Dell XPS 13 9360 [1] "potential candidate" means the system failed to boot after system update but have not identified it was encountered the same issue. -- ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.4.0-112-generic 4.4.0-112.135 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-112.135-generic 4.4.98 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-112-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.15 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: tai271828 1742 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: tai271828 1742 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Jan 27 21:28:25 2018 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=f182f469-555b-4f5d-b3df-c77ccc5d60c8 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-03-01 (332 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) MachineType: Dell Inc. Chris J Arges, 4 years have passed but thank you for your support. :-) The startup notification now works but has some big flaws. Since this is a patch to openbox I will do the tests in a stable and standard-compliant environment to see if the bug persists or not. Environment: Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) with XFCE 4 + Openbox 3.6.1-4 + notification-daemon installed Hardware: Core i5, 8Gb RAM CHANGELOG: openbox (3.6.1-3) unstable; urgency=medium * debian/control: + Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.8. + Use secured links for VCS. + Add libxcursor-dev to B-D. (Closes: #838326, LP: #1336521) NOTE: "LP: #1336521" is *this* bug in notifications. Tests: [Test Case 1] 0. Started cpulimit to limit the execution to 3% of the total CPU power. 1. Started Cheese 3.22.1 with startup notifications enabled (manually enabled from desktop file) from a desktop file. 2. No spinning cursor at all. Failed. [Test Case 2] 0. Started cpulimit to limit the execution to 10% of the total CPU power. 1. Started Cheese 3.22.1 with startup notifications enabled (manually enabled from desktop file) from a desktop file. 2. No spinning cursor at all. Failed. [Test Case 3] 1. Started IDLE 3.5.3 with startup notifications enabled (default) from a desktop file. 2. The spinning cursor appears only on the window and lasts for many seconds. The application has been started and the user can already work... but the cursor keeps spinning. Failed? [...many other tests with similar results, sometimes it works, other times does not] I do not know where the problem is (changelog says the issue was closed...) but I cannot say that the startup notification is correctly supported. Still, I am grateful for your efforts. [Bug 1745491] Re: [bionic] Dependency Hell
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I was unable to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu bionic. Sometimes when new package versions are rolled out, the archive mirrors get out of sync on some packages which can lead to temporary issues like this. Could you please run `sudo apt update` and see if this resolves your problem? If the issue is still present, please attach the output of `apt policy libwebkit2gtk-4.0-dev libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37". This will tells us which package versions are available for your system. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. This can be slow when there are several thousand instances in the deployment and an operator may want to specify a higher --max-count value and run the command until it completes. [Bug 1731646] Re: missing qDebug output when creating QT applications
I upgraded from 17.04 to 17.10 just yesterday and I was affected from the same issue. I'm sorry to say, @mitya57, you intentionally broke the qDebug _default_ behaviour (and Fedora as well). qDebug()'ing something should result in printing in the console output. If there's issues with some applications that result in too much verbose output, should be fixed in those applications, not shutting up the whole QT qDebug. Anyway, this should be warned to the user in some way during the upgrade. just my 2 cents. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1731646 Title: missing qDebug output when creating QT applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtbase-opensource-src/+bug/1731646/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1745723] [NEW] kate package indirectly depends on libvlccore8
Public bug reported: Installing Kate (on ubuntu 17.10, wayland) works fine. However, there's a dependency that's going to cause difficulties, as follows: kate -> plasma-framework -> libkf5notifications5 -> phonon4qt5 -> phonon4qt5-backend-vlc -> libvlccore8 So Kate now indirectly depends on a VLC package. VLC is moving on, and in version 4.0 installs libvlccore9. This gives a conflict since it seems both versions of libvlccore cannot co-exist. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know whether two versions of such a package should in principle be able to co-exist, but currently they can't, which means Kate and VLC 4 conflict and cannot both be installed at the same time from ppas. I've got around this for myself by compiling and installing Kate locally (not without minor problems with the run-time instructions for env.sh which seem not to work exactly as specified). ** Affects: kate (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1745723 Title: kate package indirectly depends on libvlccore8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kate/+bug/1745723/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
