[Bug 1747115] [NEW] scanbd does not find scanner

2018-02-02 Thread adasiko
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04

Install scanbd and run from root (no need any permisions troubles for
now)

sudo apt-get install scanbd

root@ubuntu1804:~# SANE_CONFIG_DIR=/etc/sane.d scanbd -d7 -f
scanbd: foreground
scanbd: reading config file /etc/scanbd/scanbd.conf

scanbd: Running as effective uid 115
scanbd: dbus_init

scanbd: sane version 1.0
scanbd: Scanning for local-only devices
scanbd: start_sane_threads
scanbd: no devices, not starting any polling thread
scanbd: start dbus thread

Something wrong. Scanbd can not find scanner.
Compile package by self.

sudo apt-get install build-essential checkinstall pkg-config libconfuse-dev
libsane-dev libudev-dev libusb-dev libdbus-1-dev
./configure
make all
sudo checkinstall

Success! Scanner has been found.

I think that key in this. From readme.txt:

[Bug 1746004] Re: Desktop Action menus of Remmina are not translated

2018-02-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I figured out a hackish solution to this, which I think will work.
Building with the attached debdiff ought to give us a translation
template with the strings in the .desktop file. Then the strings can be
translated in LP, and after next update of the language packs the
strings should show up translated.

[Bug 1747105] [NEW] Error upgrading g++ No such file or directory: '/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/scipy/lib/decorator.py'

2018-02-02 Thread Andrés Felipe Gómez
Public bug reported:

I was trying to update g++ to compile in c++. Then, doing:

sudo apt install --only-upgrade g++

I get the following error:

sh: 0: getcwd() failed: No such file or directory Setting up
python3-scipy (0.13.3-1build1) ... [Errno 2] No such file or directory:
'/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/scipy/lib/decorator.py' dpkg: error
processing package python3-scipy (--configure): subprocess installed
post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were
encountered while processing: python3-scipy E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg
returned an error code (1)

I see some solutions from: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/python-scipy/+bug/1621803

I have also tried: sudo apt install python-decorator; but get the same
error.

Nevertheless, I haven't got any results from this another pages. My
ubuntu version is: 14.04 TLS.

Thanks in advance.

I also tried:

sudo apt install --reinstall python*-decorator

But again the same.

2018-02-02 Thread Julio Lajara
Seems this broke again with the 4.13.0 HWE kernel on 16.04 . Now, in
addition to the patch I described above for CONFIG_COMPAT, you also need
the following patch to
/usr/src/rtl8812au-4.3.8.12175.20140902+dfsg/include/osdep_service_linux.h
:

```
#ifndef __OSDEP_LINUX_SERVICE_H_
#define __OSDEP_LINUX_SERVICE_H_
#include
#if (LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= KERNEL_VERSION(4,11,0))
#include
#endif
#include
```

This patch includes a conditional for the kernel schedule signal headers
for newer kernels. You can then follow the same steps at the end of my
previous comment to recompile the driver.

[Bug 1746859] Re: gnome-shell wayland is spamming syslog with wl_ messages

Oops, I had MUTTER_VERBOSE=1 and MUTTER_DEBUG=1. I also had

[Bug 1316970] Re: g_dbus memory leak in lrmd

2018-02-02 Thread Seyeong Kim
Hello ddstreet

Thanks for the review.

I changed some code for pacemaker. ( char -> gchar for matching type,
with g_free)

and glib2.0 patch is needed in my test.

without it, memory leak is there. 4kB leak every 10 second at least.

Thanks.

Note that I did a manual partitioning scheme and hence there was
probably no EFI partition for grub-efi-amd64-signed to be installed

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2018-02-02 Thread gamdow
> #556
? Please explain how to fix it is i cant boot to ubuntu only access to live
without previous OS

It sounds like you have the same issue as me (only boot from Live USB),
but you don't have an (inaccessible) installation of Ubuntu on the
laptop's HDD? Do you have access to another computer where you could do
an installation to the laptop's HDD or another USB stick perhaps? It's
pretty straight forward (though I always end up breaking the other
computers grub, but you can fix that with 'update-grub'). Once you have
the bootable Live USB and another device (HDD/USB) accessible from the
laptop with the full installation, you should then be able to follow the
instructions in my post, #554 (use the Live USB's grub terminal to
select and boot from an installation drive and update the kernel there).

I'm not sure how to reply to individual comments but to add to comment
#4, I am the person who reported this on askubuntu and the 4th button is
the menu button. I use Gnome Tweaks and have "Application Menu" turned
off under the "Top Bar" settings. I'm not on my work machine now so I
can't see what happens if I turn it back on or uninstall Gnome Tweaks.
I'll try it next week and report back. Having said that, I also use
Gnome Tweaks at home and don't see the issue here.

I can confirm the exact same behavior is also present on Linux Mint
Cinnamon 17.3 to 18.3 (currently at Firefox version 58.0) and it has
been like this for at least the last 1 and a half years.

The workaround described on comment #4 works perfectly but cannot be
considered proper default behavior.

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2018-02-02 Thread sreekumar
Hi all,
I got the same damage to my LENOVO Y50 70 from Knoppix last Edition ~8.1.
I tried the above resoulution from Knoppix USB Live but i were not able to
install that kerenal in Live edition because of some Grub related issue.I
erased same drive and put Latest Ubuntu in it and were able to boot in legecy
mode pressing F12.(Not able to boot UEFI Mode).Then i installed it to my HDD.as
i connected to internet 4.13 kernal update came,i applied it but still not
fixed,so i installed second kernal in the above solution and within a couple of
reboots i got back my BIOS settings back.

My question is if Linux kernal which goes to all ditribution itself is like
this how can i trust Linux ,it spoiles my expensive hardware.I am losing all my
learning interest and trust in linux i am thinking how can i use a linux distro
one more time?

[Bug 1745342] Re: touchscreen that worked in artful with 4.12 no longer works with 4.13

2018-02-02 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Comparing your two dmesg logs, I can see that the touchscreen is identified in
the good dmesg, but nothing in the bad one. Here's the message from the good
one:
[3.296644] input: SYNA7500:00 06CB:3AF0 as
/devices/pci:00/INT33C3:00/i2c-9/i2c-SYNA7500:00/0018:06CB:3AF0.0002/input/input10
[3.298646] hid-multitouch 0018:06CB:3AF0.0002: input,hidraw0: I2C HID v1.00
Device [SYNA7500:00 06CB:3AF0] on i2c-SYNA7500:00

I see one touchscreen specific change from 4.12.0-13 and 4.13.0-10. I
disabled this option and reverted commit 78bcac7b2ae1e4f in this test kernel:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1745342

Can you give this kernel a try? If it still has the bug, we can bisect
between 4.12.0-13 and 4.13.0-10 and see if we can narrow it down that
way.

[Bug 1746874] Re: gnome-shell and Xwayland sometimes leave $HOME/core files (should be /var/crash files)

2018-02-02 Thread Brian Murray
You could try passing a core file to apport when there is not a
graphical shell running via a command like the following:

/usr/share/apport/apport < $my-pretend.core

With that you should get a .crash file in /var/crash. Here's an example
where 11736 was a running xeyes process and core was real crashdump
file.

 $ /usr/share/apport/apport 11736 11 0 1 < /etc/X11/core
ERROR: apport (pid 11743) Fri Feb 2 14:47:35 2018: called for pid 11736,
signal 11, core limit 0, dump mode 1
ERROR: apport (pid 11743) Fri Feb  2 14:47:35 2018: executable: /usr/bin/xeyes
(command line "xeyes")
ERROR: apport (pid 11743) Fri Feb 2 14:47:35 2018: debug: session gdbus call:
(true,)

ERROR: apport (pid 11743) Fri Feb 2 14:47:49 2018: wrote report
/var/crash/_usr_bin_xeyes.1000.crash

Keep in mind that if you stop the apport service
/proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern will revert back to the default which is
just core.

 $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
core

So it's likely apport wasn't running on the system and is not the issue.

Information from 'journalctl -u apport' around the time of the core
file's creation would be useful or /var/log/apport.log if apport was
really running.

[Bug 1490738] Re: Lithuanian keyboard doesn't switch on

2018-02-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report.

This is not something I can reproduce; the Lithuanian keyboard layout
works as expected for me.

Do you still have the problem? If you have, can you please provide some
more details about the Ubuntu version and desktop environment where you
encounter the issue.

[Bug 1635074] Re: Nepali Keyboard symbol should have zero width joiner and non joiner

2018-02-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report!

If you think there is a need to modify the Nepali keyboard layout, I
have to ask you to request that change upstream, more specifically here:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?component=General
=xkeyboard-config=---

If you do, please post a comment here with a link to the upstream bug
report.

It's worth mentioning that if you install the ibus-m17n package, a
couple of IBus input methods for Nepali are made available. One of those
may fit your needs better.

[Bug 1747085] [NEW] NetworkManager: setting wifi.cloned-mac-address from pre-up.d fails silently for new connections

2018-02-02 Thread Paul M Furley
Public bug reported:

network-manager 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.2

I'm using a script in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/pre-up.d to
assign a pseudorandom mac address using the cloned-mac-address setting
(via this command):

> nmcli connection modify  wifi.cloned-mac-address

(Specifically, I'm using this script:
https://gist.github.com/paulfurley/46e0547ce5c5ea7eabeaef50dbacef3f)

This works a treat for existing connections - ifconfig shows that the MAC
address has been assigned correctly (as denoted by the leading 02):

```
$ ifconfig wlp6s0
wlp6s0Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 02:2a:8b:4e:ca:ef
```

However if I delete that connection from Network Manager and add it
again, the interface comes, leaking its real hardware mac address:

```
$ ifconfig wlp6s0
wlp6s0Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr b0:35:9f:XX:XX:XX
```

Theory 1: Maybe pre-up.d hooks don't run for new connections? Nope - I
can see from the logs that the script definitely runs when I connect to
the wifi for the first time.

Theory 2: Maybe the Network Manager connection doesn't exist yet, so the
script can't see it via its initial `nmcli connection show` command?
Nope - at the top of the log is the command `nmcli connection modify
 wifi.cloned-mac-address 02:34:ae:08:7d:5f`

So, in summary, setting wifi.cloned-mac-address from a pre-up.d hook
works great for *existing* connections but appears to fail silently for
*new* connections.

Thanks!

[Bug 1578657] Re: spanish keyboard not accentuating vowels

2018-02-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1573755 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1573755

Thanks for your report, Michael. The behavior you describe is apparently
not correct. There is a subtle issue regarding dead keys, and I mark
this bug as a duplicate of that other bug report. You may want to study
it and try some of the workarounds mentioned.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1573755
