[Bug 1742302] Re: Kernel 4.13.0-25 broke nvidia driver
I can confirm Kai-Heng Feng's comment, installing apt package nvidia-384 works fine. My system has kernel versions 4.13.0-25-generic and 4.13.0-32-generic, with the additional headers and extras packages for both. When I install packages nvidia-387 or nvidia-390, the next boot results in a black screen and the need to reboot to root console to fix this situation by uninstalling the package. However, installing nvidia-384 results in the ability to boot to gnome desktop normally. After doing so with either kernel, I can confirm the nvidia driver is loaded from the output of: $ lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)" Then, if I run: $ __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=0 glxgears I see that the framerate for my 1080 ti card is over 28K fps (vs a lower rate when the nouveau driver is loaded). Finally -- I had no trouble booting to desktop after removing the apt package and installing the proprietary driver package version 390.25 (same minor version as the apt package) provided directly from nvidia's website for Linux 64-bit. I'm not recommending this, but pointing out that the driver scripts and software from the vendor do not have the problem exhibited by the apt package for versions 387 and 390, so there is most likely some problem with the post-install commands customized by the apt packages. I've reverted to the nvidia-384 apt package for the time being. If you do try the installer from the nvidia website, however, be sure you have 'cc' configured to run gcc and not clang, or else the compilation of the kernel module will fail. [Bug 1748698] [NEW] udevadm trigger kills X server
Public bug reported: Running Xubuntu 16.04.3, with udev version 229-4ubuntu21.1. Every time I install the plexmediaserver package, no matter with what mechanism, my X server crashes out completely, taking all my running applications with it. I traced it to a postinst script call to `udevadm trigger`. Running that one command manually will instantly kill the X server every time. In looking at the logs, there's a segfault in radeon_drv.o that's clearly the end of the X server. syslog contains a set of messages about Ethernet interfaces "changed", then a cluster of messages about how various disk devices (/dev/sdX) appear twice with different sysfs paths, and then suddenly xfce4 is logging about how the X server just vanished. A mess of UPower[d] messages show up in the log as well, but shutting down upowerd before running another test yields no change, so it's not responsible for this. Whatever udev is doing to the X server is giving it a very bad day. This makes it impractical for me to upgrade plex very frequently at all, since my machine runs 24/7. However, I'm having so many problems with Plex right now that I'll be investigating other solutions anyway... ** Affects: udev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1748698 Title: udevadm trigger kills X server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/1748698/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1707898] Re: systemd translations are not synced with upstream
@Dimitri: Sorry, I saw your comments only after having added the second patch. No need to send translations upstream. Translators know that they at first hand should do the translation work upstream. No need either to re-include possible additional LP translations in the build. Just keep the upstream .po files there. pkgbinarymangler knows what to do already AFAIU. The .pot template is created by extracting translatable strings from the source files listed in po/POTFILES.in. It should reasonably consist of the very same strings as in the upstream .po files. Hopefully that answers your questions. Please let me know if I misunderstood anything. [Bug 1447664] Re: 14e4:1687 broadcom tg3 network driver disconnects under high load
Hello, this thread has a patch that solved the bug (for me). https://www.mail-archive.com/netdev@vger.kernel.org/msg189347.html The patch is here: https://www.mail-archive.com/netdev@vger.kernel.org/msg189923/0001-tg3-Add-clock-override-support-for-5762.patch I tested this patch on the following kernels and situations. 1) Stable kernels 4.13.3 and 4.15 crash without the patch (plus all other versions tested). Patch is not merged yet in the main linux branch, until (and including) 4.15 (stable). 2) Stable kernels 4.13.3 and 4.15 work great with the patch: no timeouts on tg3. Fast transfers on gigabit links and 10/100 links. 3) I wrote to the patch author, mentioned my results and asked when it will be merged on Jan 31 (10 days ago). Still waiting, probably the author is currently quite busy. 4) A lot of tests performed during weeks. The last session took about one or two weeks, working full time, on an isolated network. Using the fog open source cloning solution. Several hundreds of GB transferred during tests, for cloning 100+ machines inside a few labs. Both single and multicast cloning sessions used. Tested with a gigabit switch and also with 10/100 switches. Checked both single and multicast, sequential tests, in parallel, with/without power failures, with/without several patches, in many configurations, with lots of kernel parameters, you name it. 5) The test scenario shows this bug is completely reproducible, 100% of the time. Without the patch, my kernels always fail. Tested about 20 different versions and none worked. With the patch above, the two versions always work correctly. 6) A minor detail: patch has a slight offset for 4.15 (2 lines, probably new comments or code) but works anyway. This work would be impossible without all the cooperation from the fog team. Sebastian suggested the patch, and others helped a lot. A big "thank you" for them! I wonder when this will be merged in the main kernel. Please, can anyone help on this? [Bug 1748678] [NEW] Intel graphics timeout, possibly caused wifi network to fail
Public bug reported: My wifi network device stopped responding, unable to list any local wifi networks, which required turning off the adapter in settings and back-on again. while investigating I found the following in the dmesg output from the time the network device stopped responding. [Bug 1748597] Re: Please backport fix for bugs.debian.org/827015
** Description changed: [Impact] When a C++ exception is thrown with libunwind linked in, the signal mask is corrupted. For MongoDB, if the CPU profiler is enabled (which requires linking libunwind), any exception that is raised within the server may cause random signals to become unblocked on a thread. If SIGTERM becomes unblocked on any thread but the main thread, the server won't exit cleanly (this is particularly evident when running the MongoDB test suite, which starts/stops servers repeatedly). This also seems to impact Pyston: https://lab.nexedi.com/Daetalus/Pyston/commit/1bac7510861a112a9023f821bf3e857a6fb45037 [Test Case] I've attached the test case from the upstream Debian bug (https://bugs.debian.org/827015). $ g++ sigtest.cpp -lpthread + $ ./a.out Signals blocked: 1 (Hangup) 65 (Unknown signal 65) Throw exception Signals blocked: 1 (Hangup) 65 (Unknown signal 65) $ g++ sigtest.cpp -lpthread -lunwind + $ ./a.out Signals blocked: 1 (Hangup) 65 (Unknown signal 65) Throw exception Signals blocked: 7 (Bus error)8 (Floating point exception)10 (User defined signal 1) 12 (User defined signal 2) 13 (Broken pipe) 15 (Terminated) 17 (Child exited) 20 (Stopped)21 (Stopped (tty input))25 (File size limit exceeded) 26 (Virtual timer expired) 27 (Profiling timer expired)28 (Window changed) 29 (I/O possible) 30 (Power failure) 31 (Bad system call)32 (Unknown signal 32) 33 (Unknown signal 33) 34 (Real-time signal 0) 35 (Real-time signal 1) 36 (Real-time signal 2) 37 (Real-time signal 3) 38 (Real-time signal 4) 39 (Real-time signal 5) 40 (Real-time signal 6) 41 (Real-time signal 7) 42 (Real-time signal 8) 43 (Real-time signal 9) 44 (Real-time signal 10)45 (Real-time signal 11)46 (Real-time signal 12)47 (Real-time signal 13)65 (Unknown signal 65) [Regression Potential] This fix is already present in bionic and Debian testing, and has been for a couple months. [Bug 1748673] [NEW] package linux-image-4.13.0-32-generic 4.13.0-32.35 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Public bug reported: I tried to update the linux image normally this morning (paris time). However it hanged, so I had to kill the process from the command line. After that I tried to remove the offending package so I could run apt again. That did not work, and after a reboot a few hours later, I had to go into an old kernel and run dpkg --configure -a to fix things. This time it worked. After that I gave this linux image another shot by running apt install linux-image-generic. This seemed to work, but after a reboot I got a request for a bug report. After that I filed this bug.
