[Bug 1741089] Re: Remove poppler-qt4 reverse depends

2018-02-10 Thread Steve Langasek
cirkuit's dependency on libpoppler-qt4-4 is now blocking the poppler and
mpfr4 transitions in bionic, and so cirkuit will be demoted to bionic-
proposed shortly to unblock the updates of the other related 120+
packages.

[Bug 1748702] [NEW] Please upgrade that old version

2018-02-10 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Bionic still has that old version from 2013/04/30

Debian have a more recent version: http://metadata.ftp-
master.debian.org/changelogs/main/a/acpi-support/testing_changelog

Actual source: http://www.uefi.org/acpi

acpi-support (0.142-8) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Handle the case of no active dbus. (Closes: #798362)

acpi-support (0.142-7) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Made package build with the merged libsystemd-dev package.
Thanks to Michael Biebl (Closes: #779741)
  * Fixed wording in README.Debian to not point to a file that no longer
exists. (Closes: #774311)
  * Only try using ck-list-sessions if binary is available. (Closes: #791698)
  * Execute xlock in background because it blocks which prevents suspend.
(Closes: #770539)
  * Init script now declares DBus system bus as required. (Closes: #769326)
  * Made AC check accept more different names for the AC interface.
(Closes: #774110)

 -- Michael Meskes Tue, 01 Sep 2015 11:58:52 +0200

acpi-support (0.142-6) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Fixed typo (Closes: #767953)
  * Adjust power.sh to the fact that AC adapters go by different names.
(Closes: #766632, #767947)

 -- Michael Meskes Mon, 10 Nov 2014 03:49:41 +0100

acpi-support (0.142-5) unstable; urgency=medium

  * /etc/acpi/power.sh needs to figure out which pm-powersave option to use.
Both, plugging and unplugging, create an ac and a battery event.
(Closes: #761458)
  * Make power-funcs work even if ck-list-sessions does not return anything
useful. (Closes: #762176, 763134)
  * Bumped Standards-Version to 3.9.6, no changes needed.
  * Only accept systemd as power management daemon for some events as it
doesn't handle e.g. battery events. (Closes: #754450)

 -- Michael Meskes Tue, 21 Oct 2014 18:40:40 +0200

acpi-support (0.142-4) unstable; urgency=high

  * SECURITY UPDATE: unquoted variables that are computed from user processes
- quote variables in policy-funcs, power-funcs, screenblank, lid.sh
- CVE-2014-0484

 -- Michael Meskes Wed, 03 Sep 2014 19:12:57 +0200

acpi-support (0.142-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Execute xtrlock in background because it blocks which prevents suspend.
(Closes: #755172)
  * Only check for gnome-settings- instaed of gnome-settings-daemon because
/proc//stat only lists the first 15 characters
(Closes: #755969)
  * Remove some tests for old power management services.

 -- Michael Meskes Sat, 09 Aug 2014 12:21:18 +0200

acpi-support (0.142-2) unstable; urgency=high

  * SECURITY UPDATE: root escalation via race in policy-funcs
- lib/policy-funcs: use the X console user instead of the one from an
  arbitrary kded4 or gnome-settings-daemon process.
- power.sh: also source /usr/share/acpi-support/power-funcs.
- CVE-2014-1419

 -- Michael Meskes Fri, 18 Jul 2014 11:54:22 +0200

acpi-support (0.142-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Delete config files that may have been left due to a typo.
  * Corrected typo in default file. (Closes: #754055)
  * Imported Upstream version 0.142
  * Remove all configfiles that were obsoleted by the new version.
  * Updated key-constants from latest kernel.

[Bug 1742302] Re: Kernel 4.13.0-25 broke nvidia driver

2018-02-10 Thread Mark Valor
I can confirm Kai-Heng Feng's comment, installing apt package nvidia-384
works fine.

My system has kernel versions 4.13.0-25-generic and 4.13.0-32-generic,
with the additional headers and extras packages for both. When I
install packages nvidia-387 or nvidia-390, the next boot results in a
black screen and the need to reboot to root console to fix this
situation by uninstalling the package. However, installing nvidia-384
results in the ability to boot to gnome desktop normally. After doing
so with either kernel, I can confirm the nvidia driver is loaded from
the output of:

$ lspci -k | grep  -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"

Then, if I run:

$ __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=0 glxgears

I see that the framerate for my 1080 ti card is over 28K fps (vs a lower
rate when the nouveau driver is loaded).

Finally -- I had no trouble booting to desktop after removing the apt
package and installing the proprietary driver package version 390.25
(same minor version as the apt package) provided directly from nvidia's
website for Linux 64-bit. I'm not recommending this, but pointing out
that the driver scripts and software from the vendor do not have the
problem exhibited by the apt package for versions 387 and 390, so there
is most likely some problem with the post-install commands customized by
the apt packages. I've reverted to the nvidia-384 apt package for the
time being.

If you do try the installer from the nvidia website, however, be sure
you have 'cc' configured to run gcc and not clang, or else the
compilation of the kernel module will fail. (I couldn't get around this
by setting env vars)

[Bug 1748698] [NEW] udevadm trigger kills X server

2018-02-10 Thread Erik Walthinsen
Public bug reported:

Running Xubuntu 16.04.3, with udev version 229-4ubuntu21.1.

Every time I install the plexmediaserver package, no matter with what
mechanism, my X server crashes out completely, taking all my running
applications with it.

I traced it to a postinst script call to `udevadm trigger`. Running
that one command manually will instantly kill the X server every time.

In looking at the logs, there's a segfault in radeon_drv.o that's
clearly the end of the X server. syslog contains a set of messages
about Ethernet interfaces "changed", then a cluster of messages about
how various disk devices (/dev/sdX) appear twice with different sysfs
paths, and then suddenly xfce4 is logging about how the X server just
vanished.

A mess of UPower[d] messages show up in the log as well, but shutting
down upowerd before running another test yields no change, so it's not
responsible for this.

Whatever udev is doing to the X server is giving it a very bad day.
This makes it impractical for me to upgrade plex very frequently at all,
since my machine runs 24/7. However, I'm having so many problems with
Plex right now that I'll be investigating other solutions anyway...

[Bug 1748689] Re: Mounting SMB shares with vers=3.0 in fstab gives "ioctl error in smb2_get_dfs_refer rc=-2"

2018-02-10 Thread helm12
** Description changed:

  Xubuntu 17.10 artful
  Kernel: x86_64 Linux 4.13.0-32.35-generic
  cifs-utils 2:6.7-1
  smbclient 2:4.6.7+dfsg-1ubuntu3.1

  Mounting an SMB share with

sec=ntlmssp,vers=3.0,credentials=/home/.smbcredentials,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777

in /etc/fstab gives the error: "CIFS VFS: ioctl error in
  smb2_get_dfs_refer rc=-2" in dmesg.

Shares mounted this way are readable, but writing data to them (or using
programs such as EasyTAG to write to them) ultimately fails. This bug
did not occur in kernel 4.10. Mounting the share(s) with vers=1.0 does
not give the error, but this is a haphazard fix as SMB v3.0 carries many
- security features with it.
+ security features with it not avaliable in SMB 1.0.

2018-02-10 Thread Briam Pappurs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1460768 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1460768

Duplicate of bug #1460768:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1460768

Commands for build should have been:

apt source linux-image-4.13.0-32-generic
sudo apt build-dep linux-image-4.13.0-32-generic
cd linux-hwe-4.13.0
fakeroot debian/rules clean

[Bug 1707898] Re: systemd translations are not synced with upstream

2018-02-10 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Dimitri: Sorry, I saw your comments only after having added the second
patch.

No need to send translations upstream. Translators know that they at
first hand should do the translation work upstream.

No need either to re-include possible additional LP translations in the
build. Just keep the upstream .po files there.

pkgbinarymangler knows what to do already AFAIU.

The .pot template is created by extracting translatable strings from the
source files listed in po/POTFILES.in. It should reasonably consist of
the very same strings as in the upstream .po files.

Hopefully that answers your questions. Please let me know if I
misunderstood anything.

I have asked Sebastien to look at this, and I would suggest that you
await his review before uploading.

[Bug 1447664] Re: 14e4:1687 broadcom tg3 network driver disconnects under high load

2018-02-10 Thread Paulo Abadie Guedes
Hello, this thread has a patch that solved the bug (for me).
https://www.mail-archive.com/netdev@vger.kernel.org/msg189347.html

The patch is here:
https://www.mail-archive.com/netdev@vger.kernel.org/msg189923/0001-tg3-Add-clock-override-support-for-5762.patch

I tested this patch on the following kernels and situations.

1) Stable kernels 4.13.3 and 4.15 crash without the patch (plus all
other versions tested). Patch is not merged yet in the main linux
branch, until (and including) 4.15 (stable).

2) Stable kernels 4.13.3 and 4.15 work great with the patch: no timeouts
on tg3. Fast transfers on gigabit links and 10/100 links.

3) I wrote to the patch author, mentioned my results and asked when it
will be merged on Jan 31 (10 days ago). Still waiting, probably the
author is currently quite busy.

4) A lot of tests performed during weeks. The last session took about
one or two weeks, working full time, on an isolated network. Using the
fog open source cloning solution. Several hundreds of GB transferred
during tests, for cloning 100+ machines inside a few labs. Both single
and multicast cloning sessions used. Tested with a gigabit switch and
also with 10/100 switches. Checked both single and multicast, sequential
tests, in parallel, with/without power failures, with/without several
patches, in many configurations, with lots of kernel parameters, you
name it.

5) The test scenario shows this bug is completely reproducible, 100% of
the time. Without the patch, my kernels always fail. Tested about 20
different versions and none worked. With the patch above, the two
versions always work correctly.

6) A minor detail: patch has a slight offset for 4.15 (2 lines, probably
new comments or code) but works anyway.

This work would be impossible without all the cooperation from the fog
team. Sebastian suggested the patch, and others helped a lot. A big
"thank you" for them!

I wonder when this will be merged in the main kernel. Please, can anyone
help on this?

Regards,
Paulo

[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2018-02-10 Thread Jaroslav Svoboda
Just noticed it in updated Bionic. After boot uses around 450MB of VRAM
and then suddenly jumps to 1200MB and more when only Chrome is running.
When Chrome is closed it does not change. Using Geforce 960 GTX with 390
drivers. Freezes and also black streak flashes on one of monitors
sometimes. When the process is killed it restarts and drops back to less
then 500MB.

[Bug 1707898] Re: systemd translations are not synced with upstream

2018-02-10 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks AsciiWolf. I realized that I had to test from a standard user to
see them.

I attached a second patch which also 'gettextizes' the .policy files, so
the language pack translations are actually used. This makes the setup
more consistent.

No, adding the text to /lib/udev/rules.d/90-libinput-model-quirks.rules
didn't solve it.

[Bug 1748597] Re: Please backport fix for bugs.debian.org/827015

2018-02-10 Thread David Bartley
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
When a C++ exception is thrown with libunwind linked in, the signal mask is
corrupted.

For MongoDB, if the CPU profiler is enabled (which requires linking
libunwind), any exception that is raised within the server may cause
random signals to become unblocked on a thread. If SIGTERM becomes
unblocked on any thread but the main thread, the server won't exit
cleanly (this is particularly evident when running the MongoDB test
  suite, which starts/stops servers repeatedly).

This also seems to impact Pyston:

https://lab.nexedi.com/Daetalus/Pyston/commit/1bac7510861a112a9023f821bf3e857a6fb45037

I've attached the test case from the upstream Debian bug

This fix is already present in bionic and Debian testing, and has been for a
couple months. The upstream fix has existed for over a year.

[Bug 1748675] [NEW] Laptop freezes seconds after displaying the login screen

2018-02-10 Thread rh...@scuba2deth.com
Public bug reported:

My Dell Precision Laptop 5520 freezes seconds after displaying the login
screen when using linux-image-4.13.0-32-generic (Includes 31, 30).

Selecting 4.13.0-17-generic allows for stable operation. I am still
currently installing the main line series and will report if the issue
is resolved once that is installed.

2018-02-10 Thread rob
Public bug reported:

I tried to update the linux image normally this morning (paris time).
However it hanged, so I had to kill the process from the command line.
After that I tried to remove the offending package so I could run apt
again. That did not work, and after a reboot a few hours later, I had to
go into an old kernel and run dpkg --configure -a to fix things. This
time it worked.

After that I gave this linux image another shot by running apt install
linux-image-generic. This seemed to work, but after a reboot I got a
request for a bug report. After that I filed this bug.
