Re: [Bug 1751129] Re: I think there is some security issue in my ubuntu .

2018-02-22 Thread Umer farooq
If i have user1 and user2 in ubuntu.
And i log into user2 and in terminal I type "sudo su user1"
Then type user1 sudo password.
Boom and I am in user1 terminal and access everything.
I think it shouldn't be like that.

[Bug 1314760] Re: first hrSWInstalledIndex is 0, should be 1

2018-02-22 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
I thought I found it.

1. get extra MIBs (I had that already before)
$ apt install snmp-mibs-downloader

# modify to actually load all of them
$ cat /etc/snmp/snmp.conf
mibs +ALL

# restart the daemon
$ systemctl restart snmpd

But this exposes maybe another bug:
Bad operator (INTEGER): At line 73 in /usr/share/snmp/mibs/ietf/SNMPv2-PDU
But does not give me populated entries where I need them.

Even though it shows up in snmptranslate -Tp now at least :-/

Hmm - actually is this RPM only, no there are dpkg-query commands in there ...
Waiting for an snmp experienced user to tell me how to test this :-/

[Bug 1748408] Re: Servers going OOM after updating kernel from 4.10 to 4.13

2018-02-22 Thread Dr. Jens Harbott
O.k., confirming that this series of patches fixes the issue:

~/linux$ git log --oneline|head -3
bc6d6fd2f916 i40e: Add programming descriptors to cleaned_count
69949b3bd674 i40e: Fix memory leak related filter programming status
b32038eb34ee UBUNTU: Ubuntu-4.13.0-32.35

Can you build the same thing on top of the latest 4.13 set? Seems some
special gcc foo is needed to make the retpoline stuff working there

[Bug 1723914] Re: ubuntu-kvm-unit test failed with emulator test on ppc64le

2018-02-22 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
I think there is no general "mirror all" policy.
It just seems to me that this is requiring an architecture expert which would
be at IBM.

I'll subscribe manoj/jfh and let them decide.

1. Create a volume on a iscsi target and map it to Ubuntu host.
2. ...
So a list of commands and config files you use to do so would be much++ better
here.

[Bug 402892] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode

2018-02-22 Thread Steven Regester
I disabled the touchscreen by adding `blacklist hid-multitouch` to
`/etc/modprobe.d/hid_multitouch.conf`, rebooted, and within 15 minutes
the bug was back.

It appears as though the super key gets "stuck".
 * I have super + e bound to open nautilus, and if I press e when my computer
gets into this state, it does indeed open nautilus.
 * The behavior of the mouse when holding down `super` is consistent with the
described behavior.

Please advise as soon as possible. This bug has rendered my linux
installation unusable.

[Bug 1751207] [NEW] test_072_config_security_apparmor in ubuntu_qrt_kernel_security failed on AMD64 Bionic

2018-02-22 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

Result:
  FAIL: test_072_config_security_apparmor (__main__.KernelSecurityTest)
  CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR enabled
  --
  Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./test-kernel-security.py", line 676, in
test_072_config_security_apparmor
  self.assertEqual(self._get_config(default_apparmor_option), 'y')
  AssertionError: None != 'y'

For the config in Bionic:
$ grep -i apparmor /boot/config-4.15.0-10-generic
CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR=y
CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR_BOOTPARAM_VALUE=1
CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR_HASH=y
CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR_HASH_DEFAULT=y
# CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR_DEBUG is not set
CONFIG_DEFAULT_SECURITY_APPARMOR=y
CONFIG_DEFAULT_SECURITY="apparmor"

And for the code itself:
# Hardy and newer (Gutsy was a direct patch)
def test_072_config_security_apparmor(self):
'''CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR enabled'''

default_apparmor_option = 'DEFAULT_SECURITY_APPARMOR'
if self.kernel_at_least('4.13'):
default_apparmor_option = 'SECURITY_APPARMOR_STACKED'

self.assertEqual(self._get_config('SECURITY_APPARMOR'), 'y')
self.assertEqual(self._get_config(default_apparmor_option), 'y')
self.assertEqual(self._get_config('SECURITY_APPARMOR_BOOTPARAM_VALUE'),
'1')

It's using CONFIG_DEFAULT_SECURITY_APPARMOR=y again in 4.15 kernel. Not sure if
this is expected but I think this is the cause.

[Bug 1314760] Re: first hrSWInstalledIndex is 0, should be 1

2018-02-22 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hmm,
this is unfortunate.
We really have everything together for a fix to be pushed, except valid steps
to reproduce.
And I'm not snmp'ish enough to fix it up (in the constraint of my patience) it
seems.

The initially reported command always gives me:
.1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3 = No more variables left in this MIB View (It is past the
end of the MIB tree)

I tried to modify the command, installed extra MIB libraries, ...
Nothing worked so far :-/

I can get up to uptime .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1.0
But nothing else in .1.3.6.1.2.1.25 seems populated.

# snmpwalk -v2c -c public localhost 1.3.6.1.2.1.25
iso.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1.0 = Timeticks: (143971700) 16 days, 15:55:17.00
iso.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.2.0 = Hex-STRING: 07 E2 02 17 07 03 3B 00 2B 00 00
iso.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.3.0 = INTEGER: 393216
iso.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.4.0 = STRING:
"BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-109-generic.efi.signed
root=UUID=7da7e070-6e58-4b1b-ad8b-11ddb9c46992 ro quiet splash crashkernel"
iso.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.5.0 = Gauge32: 0
iso.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.6.0 = Gauge32: 75
iso.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.7.0 = INTEGER: 0
iso.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.7.0 = No more variables left in this MIB View (It is past
the end of the MIB tree)

I think we should be able to test this before pushing I have to ask the
reporter (or anyone else) if you'd know how to prepare that?

Not giving up yet ...

are the same or if their versions can differ from each other. I

[Bug 1749790] Re: ganeti: bionic proposed to release: bigger autopkgtest-VM

2018-02-22 Thread Sascha Lucas
According to https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2018/02/21/%23ubuntu-devel.html
Laney managed to set a bigger test-VM. The test for i.e. amd64 are now
passed. The reason why the test fails i.e. for i386 is outside of the
scope of this bug.

I'm going to close this as solved.

2018-02-22 Thread Kaan Akşit
Having the exact same issue with nvidia-390 package at my Ubuntu 16.04,
rolled back to nvidia-387 and had the same issue. And later I rolled
back nvidia-384, and still the same issue.

Then I downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-384.111.run from Nvidia's website
to see if I am able to get it up and running as Jason claimed in his
earlier post. Started installing the manual driver by killing the x
server. It prompt as unable to load the kernel module 'Nvidia.ko'.
Simply installation failed.

I am curious to find out how Jason switched to that version of Nvidia
drivers.

So for the one last time I tried removing all nvidia-* packages, and
tried installin nvidia-331 package from the repository... and the result
is the same on my end.

2018-02-22 Thread lhuszar
Sorry, but if I would be that good to let you know why I believe it is a
bug I probably would fix it.
Nevertheless I studied it and it was reported by others on the Internet
which means very little I agree.
However it occured on three of my ubuntu machines and it is not likely to
be hardware dependent.

I feel that you made an incomplete conclusion that is not really helpful to
the community.

Since the bug report is generated/ sent automatically ( most or part of it
)
 Ubuntu could design their bug reporting so that you receive the
information you need.

Thanks for your reply

[Bug 1749895] Re: Mouse & Keyboard completely unresponsive when starting a VM

2018-02-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If you can boot up the VM, reproduce the problem and then remove the
offending input devices you might be able to interact with the VM and
report this bug from within it.

[Bug 1751195] [NEW] 17.10.1 installer fails to run grub-install, many files missing after install

2018-02-22 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

I installed from the 17.10.1 ISO and ran into a bunch of weird issues
which may or may not be related. If I can provide any additional
information to help track down any of these, or if any of them should be
split into separate bugs, please assist me in doing the right thing.

I did an install with the default partitioning settings, without LVM or
disk encryption. At the end of the install, it informed me that grub-
install /dev/dm-0 had failed, without giving me any information at all
about the cause of the failure, and asked what I should do. At that
point I attempted to have it run grub-install /dev/sda and grub-install
/dev/sda1, the other choices that were offered, and both of them failed
as well.

After this I had to boot the live CD again, go into "try" mode instead
of "install" mode, and use Boot-Repair as described at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair to fix grub. This worked
fine, and I was able to boot the newly installed system afterward.

However, after doing this I discovered that some programs would not run
because they said shared libraries were not missing. This turned out to
be a more general problem than just missing shared libraries: for some
reason, many package files were missing from my hard disk. I ended up
using debsums to get a list of all missing files, pulling the package
names from that list, and reinstalling all of those packages. I have no
idea how all these files ended up missing. I didn't notice any errors
during the install which would explain it.

After this, I tried to run an ansible playbook locally that calls apt-
get install (i.e., that uses the "apt" ansible module), and this caused
ansible-playbook to consume 100% of CPU until I ctrl-C'd the ansible-
playbook process. Upon further investigation I found that the root cause
of this was that there was a line for the install cdrom left at the
beginning of /etc/apt/sources.list, which I had to remove by hand.

Overall, not a smooth install experience.

Yeah 'guest' for me means VM running on a host. That VM system is unable
to start so I wouldn't be able to gather or report anything from there.

[Bug 1751191] Re: Using Vbox with 3D enabled, creates strange stuttering

2018-02-22 Thread BertN45
** Description changed:

- It looks that the sequence of frames displayed at the screen is mixed up. The
display goes back say ¼ a second and that gives a very strange effect. You type
a letter, that letter is erased afterwards and reappears after ¼ of a second.
See the ATTACHED video. You see the same type of going back a number of frames
in e.g. YouTube videos, which gives a jittery effect.
- The problem only occurs if I have 3D acceleration enabled in Virtualbox and
it occurred with both Ubuntu 16.04 and 17.10 hosts. It only occurs at Ubuntu
16.04 guests, the problem does not occur in Ubuntu 17.10 nor in other Linux
distros including Ubuntu Mate and Xubuntu. I use Virtualbox 5.2.6 with Guest
Additions 5.2.7 as recommended by Oracle on their website.

[Bug 1751147] Re: nvidia-304 kernel module failed to build with new bionic kernel [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’; did you mean ‘init_timers’?]

I saw the same problem. Similar discussion can be found:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1026876/patch-for-387-34-and-

I tested a similar fix and was able to get the kernel module built and
running. My fix attached.

[Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-22 Thread chipschap
FWIW some NVIDIA-related changes were apparently made in 114:

2018-02-09 - Khalid Elmously
linux (4.4.0-114.137) xenial; urgency=medium
* linux: 4.4.0-114.137 -proposed tracker (LP: #1748484)
* ALSA backport missing NVIDIA GPU codec IDs to patch table to
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Kernel (LP: #1744117)
- ALSA: hda - Add missing NVIDIA GPU codec IDs to patch table
* Shutdown hang on 16.04 with iscsi targets (LP: #1569925)

I don't know if this caused the problem, but regressing from 116 to 112
also solved it for me (after about an hour of utter frustration).

This is the same issue we are facing in MAAS. Unless a user specifies a
specific set of dns servers on a subnet, which is not always the case, then
MAAS doesn’t know which interface the dns servers belong to.

I believe this is one of the reasons why the “global” config was used,
because effectively, the DNS server doesn’t really “belong” to a specific
interface.

So we either sent it to all, interfaces or pick a “best” interface, which
is not the best approach either.

As per mpontillo’s config, this has the likelihood to break dns
resolution.

That said, maybe option 3 would be to put th dns on the interface which the
default routes will be going through...

[Bug 1751191] [NEW] Using Vbox with 3D enabled, creates strange stuttering

2018-02-22 Thread BertN45
Public bug reported:

It looks that the sequence of frames displayed at the screen is mixed up. The
display goes back say ¼ a second and that gives a very strange effect. You type
a letter, that letter is erased afterwards and reappears after ¼ of a second.
See the ATTACHED video. You see the same type of going back a number of frames
in e.g. YouTube videos, which gives a jittery effect.
The problem only occurs if I have 3D acceleration enabled in Virtualbox and it
occurred with both Ubuntu 16.04 and 17.10 hosts. It only occurs at Ubuntu 16.04
guests, the problem does not occur in Ubuntu 17.10 nor in other Linux distros
including Ubuntu Mate and Xubuntu. I use Virtualbox 5.2.6 with Guest Additions
5.2.7 as recommended by Oracle on their website.

[Bug 1750884] Re: [2.4, bionic] /etc/resolv.conf not configured correctly in Bionic, leads to no DNS resolution

2018-02-22 Thread Scott Moser
Getting this fixed in cloud-init is tricky.
In ifupdown (/etc/network/interfaces) world, we just took the "global dns"
entries and put them on the loopback device (lo). Since that device would
always be brought up, and never really brought down, it served its purpose.

That is what Ryan tried above, but it doesnt seem to work. Even if it
*did* work, the solution would be systemd-networkd specific, and cloud-
init doesn't speak to systemd-networkd or systemd-resolved. It speaks
to netplan. So we would still need a way for cloud-init to tell netplan
to do this.

That leaves us with 2 not-so-great solutions in cloud-init only:
a.) blindly put global dns entries on *all* interfaces
b.) cloud-init search through the config and find the "right" interface to put
the global dns entry on.

[Bug 1527727] Re: grub-probe for zfs assumes all devices prefix with /dev, ignoring /dev/disk/...

2018-02-22 Thread Scott Moser
Hi.
I've confirmed this fix by using curtin's "vmtest" test harness.

I've applied the attached patch to curtin at 82622f129b.
The patch does:
a.) remove the work arounds we had in place to make zfs root work on xenial.
b.) enable proposed

Then I've run an install of a system that does a installation of zfs on root.
   ./tools/jenkins-runner
examples/tests/zfsroot.yaml:tests/vmtests/test_zfsroot.py:XenialGATestZfsRoot

I'll attach the boot and install logs of that system also.

[Bug 1751184] [NEW] Plymouth initramfs hook needs missing dependancy fonts-dejavu-core so update-initramfs fails

2018-02-22 Thread Jb
Public bug reported:

Missing font dependency --> plymouth initramfs hook fails --> update-
initramfs fails --> new kernel failed to install.

Bionic Lubuntu alternate 20180221

update-initramfs -c -k all

It gives an error:

Rebuilding ramfs...be patient
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-32-generic
cp: cannot stat '/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerif.ttf': No such
file or directory
E: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/plymouth failed with return 1.
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-32-generic with 1.

I checked and the directory /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/ does
not exist.

Fyi...the 4.15 kernel just came out. This caused the 4.15 kernel to
fail to install.

If I apt-get install fonts-dejavu-core it will work around this issue.

[Bug 1527727] Re: grub-probe for zfs assumes all devices prefix with /dev, ignoring /dev/disk/...

2018-02-22 Thread Scott Moser
I've removed the verification-failed-xenial tag.
The problem reported in bug 1750732 may be related to a grub upgrade, but
surely is not related to this specific grub upgrade.

Please see the changes

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/354651271/grub2_2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.16_2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.17.diff.gz
for justification.

The only change made there is a 'setenv' call.

upstream did set /var/lib/zabbix as home directory (but not created it).
I suggest using this directory and ensuring it exists. This would be in
line with other daemons like postfix or snmp. Vote for the above

[Bug 1751176] [NEW] curtin exit codes broken by collect_logs misuse of sys.exit

2018-02-22 Thread Ryan Harper
Public bug reported:

Currently any invocation of curtin that incurs an exception during the
'install' phase will trigger a path which runs the error log collection
code.

THere's a bug there which runs sys.exit() in the non-main body of the
code;  Instead only subcommands _main_ methods should use sys.exit();
the collection method (create_log_tarfile) need only return.

[Bug 1751175] [NEW] Rhythmbox does not save metadata for FLAC files

2018-02-22 Thread Sean Fitzpatrick
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 17.10, Rhythmbox does not record the metadata
entered in the "Extract" interface when converting CDs to FLAC files. (I
have not checked to see if the same is true with mp3.)

Expected behaviour: I load a CD, and Rhythmbox loads the metadata for
the album from MusicBrainz (or I enter it manually if the album is not
found). If I click Extract, the CD is converted to my preferred file
format (in this case, FLAC), and the metadata is added to the resulting
files.

This was the case on Ubuntu 17.04 and earlier.

Current behaviour: metadata is loaded from MusicBrainz as usual, but
when I extract, most of it is not added to the files.

If the metadata provided is Track Number, Artist, Album, Title, Genre,
Disc number, and Year, I see the following:

The title that results is the file name, for example:
James Ehnes - 02 - Ravel: Berceuse sur le nom de Gabriel Fauré.flac

The Artist, Album, Track Number, and Genre tags are not written.

Curiously, the Disc number and year tags *are* written.

More curiously, as a file is being converted, all the tags display in
Rhythmbox as expected. But the moment the extraction reaches the end of
the file, and the file is saved, the tags disappear.

[Bug 1749040] Re: KPTI-enabled kernel fails to boot on Cavium ThunderX CRB

2018-02-22 Thread dann frazier
The failure mentioned in Comment #15 is a test suite bug - see LP:
#1751167. I applied a hot-fix, re-ran the test, and it passed.

[Bug 1749895] Re: Mouse & Keyboard completely unresponsive when starting a VM

2018-02-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm talking about changing the driver in the guest, on the assumption
this bug was reported from the guest (which is what we need). However
now that you mention it, you probably reported this from the host so the
above logs would be misleading and probably irrelevant...

If that's correct then unfortunately we'll need to leave the status as
Incomplete until someone can figure out how to get some useful
information out of the VM/guest itself.

Interesting it's a different assertion to bug 1750664. But hopefully the
same fix applies?
