[Bug 1753782] Re: File Properties window size truncates longer paths

2018-03-15 Thread Lyn Perrine
I also get this on xenial and have made it a bit clearer to read.

** Description changed:

+ To reproduce in pcmanfm on lubuntu open /usr/share/include/lxappearance
+ or another similally long file.
+
  (pcmanfm package v. 1.2.5-3ubuntu1 /artful)
  Expected: all fields are readable.
The problem: the window is too narrow to display a path not in the shortest
branches of /bin/, /lib/, etc. and is neither auto-resizing nor resizeable.
While "Location" field can be seen in columns, it's also impossible to read
"Target File" field for symlinks.

Also, is there any practical reason at all to fix its size?

[Bug 1754425] Re: Lots of pcieport and nvme kernel errors - system non-responsive

2018-03-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unfortunately, that's what many people say when they log a bug. And
unfortunately you do seem to be the first/only person reporting this
problem, for now. Although that doesn't imply your machine is the only
one affected. It's always possible you have the honour of just being the
most observant person to notice and report the problem first...

Here are the steps:

1. Download http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.16-rc5
/linux-headers-4.16.0-041600rc5_4.16.0-041600rc5.201803112130_all.deb

2. Download http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.16-rc5
/linux-
headers-4.16.0-041600rc5-generic_4.16.0-041600rc5.201803112130_amd64.deb

/linux-
image-4.16.0-041600rc5-generic_4.16.0-041600rc5.201803112130_amd64.deb

4. In a terminal, install them all at once:
   sudo dpkg -i linux*.deb

5. Reboot.

6. Verify you're using the new kernel by running this in a terminal:
   uname -r

[Bug 1754425] Re: Lots of pcieport and nvme kernel errors - system non-responsive

Can you walk me through that?

I'm not sure it's necessary. I have one of the most popular systems
(Dell XPS 9560). If 18.04 doesn't wake up from lid closing on all Dell
XPS, I doubt I'm the first/only to have this problem.

Still impacted by this. Now #62 is not working. I see that a fix is
available for xenial, but I have no upgrades available.

This is a problem, as this completely hoses our vmware network that
relies on NFS exports.

[Bug 1573345] Re: Dual monitor loses settings after screen sleep

2018-03-15 Thread AB
This is totally happening for me since a long while now. It was there in 17.x ,
it is there in 18.04 beta.
No matter if we use KDE or Cinnamon.
No matter if we use noveau or NVIDIA drivers.

I have 2 monitors for my desktop, a big one in front and a smaller one
on the left. The big one is supposed to be the main desktop screen.

Once the screen saver timer kicks in to turn off the monitors, the big
one never comes back to life after entering the password (can only enter
it on the secondary-left side monitor). The big one stays without any
image, it even says there is no signal when turned on/off.

Have to reboot to fix it.

[Bug 1706203] Re: gnome-shell crashed with heap corruption in g_strfreev() from g_themed_icon_finalize()

I mean unsupported by Ubuntu and by Gnome development.

But I don't want to use that as an excuse. It sounds like a gnome-shell
bug that's only revealed by adding extensions.

[Bug 1756226] [NEW] nvidia-driver-390 fails to start GUI

2018-03-15 Thread walkerstreet
Public bug reported:

I was the original person who posted Ubuntu [Bug 1752053] nvidia-390
fails to boot graphical display. I was able to use the fix on my laptop
successfully. However, my desktop computer has 2 GTX1080 Ti cards and
the fix does not work. After I boot my desktop computer, I do not get a
login screen. I get a blank screen with a flickering text cursor in the
top left corner. I am running Bionic.

Alberto,

Your log shows some issues with a USB device that looks like it might be
causing some delays (on resume from sleep?). Looks like maybe an HP
printer?

Please try unplugging your USB devices and see if that avoids the issue.

[Bug 1706203] Re: gnome-shell crashed with heap corruption in g_strfreev() from g_themed_icon_finalize()

2018-03-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't find any reports of this crash on errors.ubuntu.com so it's not
very common. Although we have 3 duplicate bugs here...

Similar to comment #10 it might be triggered by one of your non-standard
gnome-shell extensions, or by your custom icon theme. That doesn't
necessarily put the blame on those other components, but might be a way
to work around the crash.

[Bug 1710318] Re: Please remove webkit1 rdepends removed from Debian Testing

2018-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

Several webkit1 reverse-dependencies have been removed from Debian
  Testing ('buster').

While I'd like to see them removed from unstable too (or ported away
from webkit1), that will take quite a while longer.

  Removed from testing

  gnucash
luakit (there's an ITA but it's a web browser so I wouldn't be too sad if
luakit is removed until it can be at least properly maintained in Debian)
  monodevelop
  monodevelop-database
  thawab
  xiphos
  xtrkcad
- zekr

  Never in Debian
  ===
  lightdm-webkit-greeter
Mike Gabriel from Debian MATE has begun preparing web-greeter (the renamed
version of lightdm-webkit-greeter)

  Other Info
  ==
I think the most difficult one on this list for some people is gnucash.
Fedora 27 (due ~November) is actually bundling webkit1 inside the gnucash
packaging. There will be a beta version of gnucash ported to gtk3 available
later this year. Hard to say whether it's better to offer a beta or just remove
it entirely.

monodevelop may be useful to some people but I don't think Mono ever got
around to releasing a stable gtk3 version of Mono.

Arch Linux has already completely removed webkit1.

gnome-python and pyorbit have been removed from Debian Testing because

[Bug 1686081] Re: If -synaptics is installed, GNOME Mouse & Touchpad Settings doesn't work

2018-03-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Jeremy,

That may be due to the gdk bug mentioned in the gnome-control-center
patch. I tried working around it there but probably need to propose a
better fix to gdk (which I had started but became too busy to finish).
Although I do have an alternative gnome-control-center fix in mind (less
elegant) that would avoid the gdk bug better.

Also make sure you're running it on a machine with a touchpad :)

[Bug 1756219] [NEW] [xenial] oprofile user space package upgrade to 1.2.0 or later

2018-03-15 Thread Robert Liu
Public bug reported:

Description:
oprofile failed to recognize the cpu type of platforms Dawson Cayon NUC7i3DNH,
June Canyon-NUC7PJYH and June Canyon-NUC7CJYH.

Root Cause:
For JC(GLK-NUC), v4.13 kernel doesn't support GLK-NUC. The result was expected!
For DC(KBL-NUC), v4.13 support KBL, but user space package of oprofile version
is too low.

Action:
upgrade oprofile user space package into 1.2.0 or later.
oprofile 1.2.0 will support KBL.
Or, backport the commit(s) to support the KBL platforms.

Sorry, no, it wasn't a joke.

I don't disagree. It is a bug and as I said I have no objection to
getting it fixed in older stable releases if somebody wants to drive
that. But I maintain it is not a serious issue, because as I explained
it only causes some inconvenience to users during development and
testing and does not affect production systems. Claiming it is a serious
issue dilutes attention from issues that really are serious, which is
why I objected to that statement in this case.

> So it has been a while now. What's the next step to get this in?
> The fix is really trivial. Can I help with something to get it rolling?

Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure. The
fix may be trivial, but unfortunately updating the stable release is
not. The risk of regressing users who expect stability means that we
have to take considerable care. For example, an unrelated latent bug
could be exposed by a rebuild. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Why for details.

[Bug 1756198] Re: Intermittent HDMI sound, working with some videos/audios, failing with others

2018-03-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1756198/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1756208] [NEW] simplescan doesn't work in Ubuntu 17.10

2018-03-15 Thread Jimmy Montague
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 17.10
Simplescan operates my old HP G3110 scanner perfectly. What it doesn NOT do is
permit me to crop the scans. If I can't crop the scans, the software is
worthless. How do I crop scans in Simplescan these days? I've looked everywhere
on the simplescan interface but cannot find a "crop" option. Your software
worked perfectly fine in Ubuntu 14x and 16x, but it ain't worth a hoot in 17x
without I can't trim my scans.

[Bug 1756209] [NEW] i386 implementation of memmove broken since glibc 2.21

2018-03-15 Thread Thomas Middeldorp
Public bug reported:

In glibc 2.21 they optimized i386 memcpy:

https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-02/msg00119.html

The implementation contained a bug which causes memmove to break when
crossing the 2GB threshold.

This has been filed with glibc here (filed by someone else, but I have
requested an update from them as well):

https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=22644

Unfortunately they have not yet taken action on this bug, however I want
to bring it to your attention in the hope that it can be patched into
all current Ubuntu releases as soon as possible. I hope this is not
improper procedure. Both myself and another (see comment 1 in the glibc
bug report) have tested the patch provided in the above glibc bug report
and it does appear to fix the problem, however I don't know what the
procedure is for getting it properly confirmed/tested and merged into
Ubuntu.

As requested in the guidelines:

1) We are using:
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS
Release:16.04

2)
libc6:i386:
  Installed: 2.23-0ubuntu10

However as stated above this has been present since libc6:i386 2.21 and
affects Ubuntu 15.04 onward. (I have actually tested this as well. 15.04
conveniently used both glibc 2.19 and 2.21 so it was a good test
platform when I was initially attempting to track down the problem.)

3) What we expected to happen:
memmove should move data within the entire valid address space without
segfaulting or corrupting memory.

4) What happened instead:
When memmove attempts to move data crossing the 2GB threshold it either
segfaults or causes memory corruption.

[Bug 1752739] Re: PRIME Synchronization doesn't work with linux-kernel 4.15.

2018-03-15 Thread Doug McMahon
Fresh install couple of days old image
Update, reboot
Install the 390 driver
Reboot with kernel option nvidia-drm.modeset=1
Note: boot hangs at Ubuntu splash, nothing can be done, no tty's available.
Only press power button to initiate shutdown works

[Bug 1738263] Re: Touchpad not working and locking CPU

2018-03-15 Thread Luke Williams
So, I read in a thread that someone was having something similar happen to them
and they built the 4.14 kernel and this fixed the issue. I decided to pull and
build the Bionic kernel from git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-bionic and
install that on my Artful laptop and now everything appears to be working
normal. The touchpad is fully responsive and working as it should.
I will continue to test throughout the weekend, but it looks like the current
4.15.0-10-generic kernel does fix the elan touchpad issue on the GL702VD.

I kind of hope that this is a joke :)
You know sometimes things don't go as intended, that's why the check is
there.

So it has been a while now. What's the next step to get this in?
The fix is really trivial. Can I help with something to get it rolling?

2018-03-15 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Please fix:
- Missing bug subscriber
- Package contains a limited test suite, which gets run at build time, but
failures are ignored (and it does happen to fail)
- crypto/secrets handling should have a security review
