[Bug 1625610] Re: Renesas USB3 (uPD720200) does not recognize USB3 devices

2018-06-08 Thread gouri
TL;DR: This bug still happens Ubuntu 18.04.

No Windows here so not tried Windows.

lspci | grep -i upd

03:00.0 USB controller: Renesas Technology Corp. uPD720201 USB 3.0 Host
Controller (rev 03)

Have tried to plug in two USB3 hard disks, one mouse. At all times,
lsusb -t shows controller but nothing attached. Plugging/unplugging a
device causes no activity, nothing in dmesg.

Plugging/unplugging the same devices in another port on same machine
(different controller, USB2) causes normal activity, messages in dmesg,
devices work.

[Bug 1775459] Re: python2.7-minimal broken in bionic beaver

2018-06-08 Thread mcandre
Ah, I see that the Swift tarball is unfortunately populating the
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages directory, e.g.:

wget
https://swift.org/builds/swift-4.1.2-release/ubuntu1604/swift-4.1.2-RELEASE/swift-4.1.2
-RELEASE-ubuntu16.04.tar.gz

sudo tar xzvf swift-4.1.2-RELEASE-ubuntu16.04.tar.gz -C / --strip-
components 1

I'll make a note about this to the Swift team.

[Bug 1771962] Re: hanging at boot for about 30 seconds since upgrade to bionic

2018-06-08 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

- Since upgrade to Bionic ubuntu is hanging at boot for about 30s. A
- `dmesg` shows
+ [SRU Justification]
+ A regression in initramfs-tools causes it to autogenerate config in the
initramfs saying to resume from any available swap devices, even if the swap
device is ephemeral (i.e. swap encrypted with a random key). This adds an
inappropriate 30-second boot delay to any system with randomly-crypted swap,
which includes any system that was installed with encrypted home directories in
earlier releases.
+
+ [Test case]
+ 1. Install the ecryptfs-utils package.
+ 2. Enable encrypted swap by running 'sudo ecryptfs-setup-swap'.
+ 3. Run 'update-initramfs -u' to regenerate the initramfs.
+ 4. Reboot.
+ 5. Verify that dmesg shows a 30-second delay before mounting the root
filesystem.
+ 6. Install initramfs-tools from bionic-proposed.
+ 7. Reboot.
+ 8. Verify that dmesg no longer shows a 30-second delay before mounting the
root filesystem.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+ This makes changes to shell scripts, and shell is a perilous language. An
unnoticed bug could cause all initramfs generation, and thus all kernel
installation, to fail for some users. A regression could also cause a user to
lose hiberation support that they currently have.
+
+ [Original description]
+ Since upgrade to Bionic ubuntu is hanging at boot for about 30s. A `dmesg`
shows

  ```
  [3.407230] clocksource: Switched to clocksource tsc
  [   34.632583] EXT4-fs (sda2): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
Opts: (null)
  ```

This is 100% reproducable and is always 30s minimum. I do not know in
which package to report this properly – please excuse me.

Same behavior in 16.04 Xenial: When I try to install clang, dpkg
complains that python2.7-minimal fails to install.

As far as I know, the few packages I am using so far for my Swift Ubuntu
machines, beyond the default Ubuntu server packages, include libicu-dev,
ca-certificates, and rsync.

xwayland clients still only refresh at 60 Hz.

This is bad because if using a monitor with no even multiple of 60 Hz
(like 72, 75, or 144 Hz monitors), there is stutter instead of smooth
playback. And I guess many common apps will be running through xwayland
for quite some time.

I can also confirm the problem running glxgears, which runs v-synced and
prints 60 FPS to the console.

This is an Xwayland issue, the Wayland compositor has nothing to do with
it.

[Bug 1755831] Re: ibus not working properly

2018-06-08 Thread Zheng Liu
I have tested and confirmed that the package budgie-desktop-
environment_0.9.9ubuntu1 has solved this issue. The "IBus Preferences"
option now shows under the menu, and I can add the input method icon by
checking the "Show icon on system tray" option. Once the icon shows up,
I can now add new input methods through "IBus Preferences" and have them
show in the list of available input methods. Typing in additional input
methods is working properly too.

Changing the tag to verification-done-bionic.

What fixed it for me was explicitly setting git's http.proxyAuthMethod

If you run your git commands with environment variable

failing.

[Bug 1587481] Re: Unable to pin gnome-terminal to Docky

2018-06-08 Thread Alexey
Try the following workaround:
1. Find executable file /usr/share/applications/Terminal
2. Drag and drop the icon on the Docky
This worked with OpenSuse 42.3 Gnome 3.20.2

Hi!

As of 3.13, the wifi card on my HP nx6325 remains hard-blocked no matter

Oddly enough, it reports hard-blocked after trying to set the interface
up.

chopin:~# rfkill list

--- end of transcript ---

The LED remains off all the time, it only flashes once when running
"ifconfig wlan0 up", but the device isn't really up.

Needless to say it's impossible to connect via wifi, hence the raised priority.

For the sake of completeness, let me add that 3.12.8 isn't affected, so
it's clearly a regression.

[Bug 977094]

2018-06-08 Thread Nate-b
Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support
status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost
completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is
likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report.
If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or
later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell"
product after reading
https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that
future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read
https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham

2018-06-08 Thread jamso
I had the exact same issue. It actual problem is stated here by someone
else, with a solution:

https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1036167/linux/stuck-trying-to-
intall-nvidia-390-ubuntu-18-04-lts-/

The problem is a dialogue requesting to set a password (for secureboot
stuff) never pops up. I think the password must be 8 or more characters
(not sure if there's an upper limit).

A workaround given was when the update gets stuck, type a password in
the terminal blindly and press return twice (using the same password
both times). This worked for me, except I had to type the password in
about 4 times. (This is not necessary in theory, but I think maybe
you're supposed to press "return" at other occasions to pass "ok"
checkpoints. Therefore, you have to type the password unnecessarily and
press return because you don't know where the checkpoints are.)

Filing this bug to facilitate the fix entering the pipeline

CRTC bound checking was introduced to make sure windows do not slide
into hidden areas, when multiple screens map to the framebuffer. It
seems to be interfering with Panning.

Description:
Panning does not work. The screen should pan when the mouse is moved outside
the visible area on the screen, when the visible part of the screen on the CRTC
is part of a larger configured framebuffer screen.

Use the following to configure panning
xrandr --fb 1600x1200 --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --panning 1600x1200
Use the following to restore
xrandr --fb 1280x800 --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --panning 1280x800
Move the mouse to the CRTC edge and expect to see screen to pan, but pan does
not happen, because the mouse is constrained to remain in the CRTC bounds.

Use case:
laptops have small screens.
Configure panning to use a larger screen on the small DISPLAY.
Use remote desktop such as VNC, using vino, or module vnc, and access the
desktop more comfortably on a larger workstation screen.

Downstream bug.

Yeah, I later submitted another patch which also fixes this issue in a
different way:

http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/6488/

There's no action on either of them though.

RandR panning is a really niche and unloved feature which I can
understand as it makes the X server more complex than it could be. The
panning functionality really belongs in a client application like a
compositor.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-06-08 Thread OliFre
Since it's still in proposed and a day is mostly over (and Europe is
asleep again) - could somebody outline / point me to the conditions for
a package to be moved from proposed to released?

This would be good to know to understand what is missing (and
potentially help?) instead of entering a lengthy discussion here, with
almost a 100 affected people and hence spamming lots of subscribers.

[Bug 1775955] [NEW] I get an "Unable to install "IDEA Community": forbidden" error even though clicking the install button initiated the download and installation sucessfully

2018-06-08 Thread Seija Kijin
Public bug reported:

When I attempted to install "IDEA Community," gnome-software gave me an
error saying "Unable to install 'IDEA Community': forbidden," and then
less than a second later, I was prompted for my password, and upon
entering it in, the installation started without issue.

The problem is that the error occurred even though the download and
installation happened successfully WITHOUT my having to click on the
"install" button again, so this is a false error.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch GNOME Software Center
2. Click on IDEA Community
3. Click on the Install button
4. Notice that a "forbidden" error is raised and then you are prompted for a
password. Enter the password and find that the installation proceeds without
issue.

Expected Results:
Installation begins without any "Unable to install" messages

Actual Results:
"forbidden" error appears even though an authentication window appeared, and
entering the password correctly initiated the download and installation.

Currently the panel is always placed on the very edge of the screen.
Wouldn't it be possible to allow the panel to be "undocked" from the
edge so that it can "float" on the screen?

[Bug 1770650] Re: Update google compute-image-packages to 20180510

2018-06-08 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

compute-image-packages is provided by Google for installation within
guests that run on Google Compute Engine. It is a collection of tools
and daemons, packaged as gce-compute-image-packages, that ensure that
the Ubuntu images published to GCE run properly on their platform.

Cloud platforms evolve at a rate that can't be handled in six-month
increments, and they will often develop features that they would like to
be available to customers who don't want to upgrade from earlier Ubuntu
releases. As such, updating gce-compute-image-packages to more recent
upstream releases is required within all Ubuntu releases, so they
continue to function properly in their environment.

With this release we also add a new binary package to the suite -
google-compute-engine-oslogin which is for a future feature of using OS
  Login on GCE VM instances.

+ In the SRU for Trusty the maintainer scripts removed manual handling of
+ systemd services because systemd can be present on Trusty systemd due to
+ recent changes.
+
+ In the Trusty SRU the maintainer scripts are also changed to
+ start/restart the shipped upstart jobs and also running
+ google_instance_setup.
+
  [Test Case]

When a new version of gce-compute-image-packages is uploaded to
-proposed, the following will be done:

- * an image based on -proposed will be built for GCE and published to the
ubuntu-os-cloud-devel project
- * the CPC team will write new automated tests to cover new testable
functionality (if any) in the new package
- * the automated testing that the CPC team normally runs against GCE images
before they are published will be run against the -proposed image
- * the GCE team will be asked to validate that the new package addresses the
issues it is expected to address, and that the image passes their internal
image validation.
+  * an image based on -proposed will be built for GCE and published to the
ubuntu-os-cloud-devel project
+  * the CPC team will write new automated tests to cover new testable
functionality (if any) in the new package
+  * the automated testing that the CPC team normally runs against GCE images
before they are published will be run against the -proposed image
+  * the GCE team will be asked to validate that the new package addresses the
issues it is expected to address, and that the image passes their internal
image validation.

If all the testing indicates that the image containing the new package
is acceptable, verification will be considered to be done.

  [Other Information]

This bug is used for tracking of releasing the new upstream version for
all supported series, as per the approved policy mentioned in the
  following MRE:

[Bug 1761240] Re: SRU pollinate 4.33

2018-06-08 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Joshua, or anyone else affected,

Accepted pollinate into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pollinate/4.33-0ubuntu1~18.04.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1775945] [NEW] Lenovi X1 Carbon regularly has frozen lock- or dark screen after closing lid

2018-06-08 Thread Pieter Smith
Public bug reported:

I was running ubuntu 17.10 for months with no issues. After upgrading to 18.04,
closing the lid regularly (but not always) results in either:
1. The display staying on with a frozen lock-screen, or
2. The display powered off, but the notebook still powered on.

In both cases the notebook does not respond. A five-second press of the
power button to hard-reboot the computer is the only means of recovery.

After powering the notebook back on, there are no files in /var/crash.

[Bug 1775944] [NEW] [SRU] hoteldruid 2.2.2 unusable with php 7.2

2018-06-08 Thread Marco Maria Francesco De Santis
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

* Starting with php 7.1 variables initialized as empty strings are no
more converted to array with a following assignment. Hoteldruid used
many empty string initializations for arrays until version 2.2.2
(current version in Bionic), version 2.2.3 (already in Cosmic) fixes
this. Many warnings about deprecated features in php 7.2 are also fixed
with hoteldruid version 2.2.3.

* Many of these errors make hoteldruid unusable and there could be
potential data losses. For example only 3 wrong dates are displayed in
date pickers, so it's not possible to insert prices or insert a
reservation. Another example is when modifying language or graphic
themes, all previous selections are lost and it falls back to default
values.

[Test Case]

* Install hoteldruid in Bionic and open it in your browser (you can use
the menu entry provided by the package), if needed make the login into
hoteldruid. You'll land in hoteldruid main menu where you can see there
is a form to check availability where only dates from "December 31,
1901" to "January 2, 1902" will be available, instead of all dates of
2018. The same happens in all other pages.

[Regression Potential]

* The chance of regression is low as there are no other packages that
depend (or recommend or suggest) hoteldruid. Also the new upstream
version is a point release consisting mostly of bugfixes.

** Affects: hoteldruid (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 556653] Re: build fails in chrooted system

2018-06-08 Thread Markus Lindberg
To add to #14 comment, a file in /var/lib/initramfs-tools also gets
generated if the host kernel differs from the chroot environments
kernel.

In my case I'm running a Debian system with the 4.9.0-6-amd64 kernel and
a Ubuntu (Xenial) chroot environment with the 4.4.0-127-generic kernel.
When installing the nvidia-384 package inside the chroot environment the
/var/lib/initramfs-tools/4.9.0-6-amd64 file gets generated.

# ls -l /initrd.img
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Apr  5 11:31 /initrd.img ->
boot/initrd.img-4.9.0-6-amd64
# ls -l /target/initrd.img
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 Jun  8 23:03 /target/initrd.img ->
boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-127-generic
# ls -l /target/var/lib/initramfs-tools/
total 8
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 77 Jun 8 23:06 4.4.0-127-generic
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 73 Jun 8 23:08 4.9.0-6-amd64

(/target is the chroot environment)

The /var/lib/initramfs-tools/4.9.0-6-amd64 file is dangerous since
update-initramfs will think that it's a valid existing kernel and
produce errors as the following that will prevent updating the initrd in
the future.

# chroot /target
sh-4.3# update-initramfs -u
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.9.0-6-amd64

No audio comes out of the right speaker on the laptop. When playing a
test video such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvJoYnpeRQ the
right-channel audio is never heard (i.e., it does not get converted into
mono and played through the left speaker).

When plugging in headphones, audio is heard from both channels.

In Windows, both speakers work, so it is not a physical problem with the
speakers.

This is being moved upstream from the Ubuntu bug at

Someone needs to send an email to netdev@ asking for it, though. kernel

BTW, I had this same warning with vmxnet3 driver with 4.9. I tried a
newer kernel and the message didn't appear. I posted my findings here:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=864642#95 - for
reference:

===
It looks like the warning appeared with this first commit:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=dcb17d22e1c2cd72e72190c736349a675362b3bc
but was later corrected with this second one:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=0b9aefea860063bb39e36bd7fe6c7087fed0ba87

The first commit was merged in the 4.9 tree, but not the second one (at
least not up to 4.9.106), and was only merged in 4.11.

So I would conclude the warning may be harmless, unless you got it on a
>= 4.11 kernel. And I also verified I don't get it on such a newer
kernel.

I would close this bug, but it may eventually be nice to backport the second
commit in 4.9 to avoid the harmless warning.

Searching on the net, there are other reports with the same issue and
with various other drivers.

Please check if this is not a BIOS setting. Or if wifi can be enabled by
command:

rfkill unblock wifi

I reassign bug to platform_x86 as this is driver for handing rfkill
switch on laptops.

[Bug 1775883] Re: Failed to upgrade 16.04.4 to 18.04. Process aborted

2018-06-08 Thread Brian Murray
You have installed packages from the ubuntu-toolchain test PPA and that
is preventing the upgrader from calculating the upgrade as there are
packages installed greater than the version in 18.04. Please use ppa-
purge to remove that PPA and then try the upgrade again.

[Bug 1775939] [NEW] unexpected operator during "shared memory segments" check

2018-06-08 Thread John Parejko
Public bug reported:

rkhunter on Ubuntu 18.04 produces messages like the following:

/usr/bin/rkhunter: 14795: [: /usr/lib/firefox/firefox: unexpected
operator

during its "shared memory segments" test. According to this rkhunter
sourceforge message thread:

https://sourceforge.net/p/rkhunter/support-requests/58/

this bug was identified and fixed, but the minor version number wasn't
updated. I think this can be solved by just updating the Ubuntu package.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1252662]

2018-06-08 Thread Nate-b
Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support
status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost
completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is
likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.

Nate Graham

Hopefully, is fixed for good. I'm closing this bug, if problem arise with
latest kernel versions https://www.kernel.org/ please open a NEW bug with HW
and SW information, steps to reproduce and relevant logs.Thank you.

[Bug 1140716]

2018-06-08 Thread Samuel Rakitničan
I doesn't seem to be getting mentioned Gnome crashes on my sandybridge
anymore with mainline kernels, that is currently 4.11 and I think even
with 4.10 I was not getting any issues, with mainline longterm 4.4.61
and default centos 7 kernels I am definitely getting very frequent GPU
crashes that brings down Gnome.

So it is either fixed for good, or it become much rarer. The issue I
am/was experiencing happens when Gnome is running, it does not happen
when only GDM is loaded. System load seems to not have effect on the bug
triggering, seems to happen any time, on idle, or when machine is
loaded.
