[Bug 1771962] Re: hanging at boot for about 30 seconds since upgrade to bionic
** Description changed: - Since upgrade to Bionic ubuntu is hanging at boot for about 30s. A - `dmesg` shows + [SRU Justification] + A regression in initramfs-tools causes it to autogenerate config in the initramfs saying to resume from any available swap devices, even if the swap device is ephemeral (i.e. swap encrypted with a random key). This adds an inappropriate 30-second boot delay to any system with randomly-crypted swap, which includes any system that was installed with encrypted home directories in earlier releases. + + [Test case] + 1. Install the ecryptfs-utils package. + 2. Enable encrypted swap by running 'sudo ecryptfs-setup-swap'. + 3. Run 'update-initramfs -u' to regenerate the initramfs. + 4. Reboot. + 5. Verify that dmesg shows a 30-second delay before mounting the root filesystem. + 6. Install initramfs-tools from bionic-proposed. + 7. Reboot. + 8. Verify that dmesg no longer shows a 30-second delay before mounting the root filesystem. + + [Regression potential] + This makes changes to shell scripts, and shell is a perilous language. An unnoticed bug could cause all initramfs generation, and thus all kernel installation, to fail for some users. A regression could also cause a user to lose hiberation support that they currently have. + + [Original description] + Since upgrade to Bionic ubuntu is hanging at boot for about 30s. A `dmesg` shows ``` [3.407230] clocksource: Switched to clocksource tsc [ 34.632583] EXT4-fs (sda2): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null) ``` This is 100% reproducable and is always 30s minimum. I do not know in which package to report this properly – please excuse me. This is bad because if using a monitor with no even multiple of 60 Hz (like 72, 75, or 144 Hz monitors), there is stutter instead of smooth playback. [Bug 977094]
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding! I had the exact same issue. It actual problem is stated here by someone else, with a solution: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1036167/linux/stuck-trying-to- intall-nvidia-390-ubuntu-18-04-lts-/ The problem is a dialogue requesting to set a password (for secureboot stuff) never pops up. I think the password must be 8 or more characters (not sure if there's an upper limit). A workaround given was when the update gets stuck, type a password in the terminal blindly and press return twice (using the same password both times). This worked for me, except I had to type the password in about 4 times. (This is not necessary in theory, but I think maybe you're supposed to press "return" at other occasions to pass "ok" checkpoints. Therefore, you have to type the password unnecessarily and press return because you don't know where the checkpoints are.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775526 Title: package linux-image-4.15.0-22-generic 4.15.0-22.24 failed to install/upgrade: installed linux-image-4.15.0-22-generic package pre- removal script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1775526/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It seems to be interfering with Panning. Description: Panning does not work. The screen should pan when the mouse is moved outside the visible area on the screen, when the visible part of the screen on the CRTC is part of a larger configured framebuffer screen. Use the following to configure panning xrandr --fb 1600x1200 --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --panning 1600x1200 Use the following to restore xrandr --fb 1280x800 --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --panning 1280x800 Move the mouse to the CRTC edge and expect to see screen to pan, but pan does not happen, because the mouse is constrained to remain in the CRTC bounds. Use case: laptops have small screens. Configure panning to use a larger screen on the small DISPLAY. Use remote desktop such as VNC, using vino, or module vnc, and access the desktop more comfortably on a larger workstation screen. Currently moving the mouse to the bottom edge of the screen doesn't pan, so if, eg. while typing my edit cursor has moved into the bottom 168 pixels of the projector screen I end up typing blind on the Netbook and having to look over my shoulder at the screen behind me. RandR panning is a really niche and unloved feature which I can understand as it makes the X server more complex than it could be. The panning functionality really belongs in a client application like a compositor. Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg- server/+bug/1580123/comments/5

[Bug 1775955] [NEW] I get an "Unable to install "IDEA Community": forbidden" error even though clicking the install button initiated the download and installation sucessfully
Public bug reported: When I attempted to install "IDEA Community," gnome-software gave me an error saying "Unable to install 'IDEA Community': forbidden," and then less than a second later, I was prompted for my password, and upon entering it in, the installation started without issue. The problem is that the error occurred even though the download and installation happened successfully WITHOUT my having to click on the "install" button again, so this is a false error. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Launch GNOME Software Center 2. Click on IDEA Community 3. Click on the Install button 4. Notice that a "forbidden" error is raised and then you are prompted for a password. Enter the password and find that the installation proceeds without issue. Expected Results: Installation begins without any "Unable to install" messages Actual Results: "forbidden" error appears even though an authentication window appeared, and entering the password correctly initiated the download and installation. Cloud platforms evolve at a rate that can't be handled in six-month increments, and they will often develop features that they would like to be available to customers who don't want to upgrade from earlier Ubuntu releases. As such, updating gce-compute-image-packages to more recent upstream releases is required within all Ubuntu releases, so they continue to function properly in their environment. With this release we also add a new binary package to the suite - google-compute-engine-oslogin which is for a future feature of using OS Login on GCE VM instances. + In the SRU for Trusty the maintainer scripts removed manual handling of + systemd services because systemd can be present on Trusty systemd due to + recent changes. + + In the Trusty SRU the maintainer scripts are also changed to + start/restart the shipped upstart jobs and also running + google_instance_setup. + [Test Case] When a new version of gce-compute-image-packages is uploaded to -proposed, the following will be done: - * an image based on -proposed will be built for GCE and published to the ubuntu-os-cloud-devel project - * the CPC team will write new automated tests to cover new testable functionality (if any) in the new package - * the automated testing that the CPC team normally runs against GCE images before they are published will be run against the -proposed image - * the GCE team will be asked to validate that the new package addresses the issues it is expected to address, and that the image passes their internal image validation. + * an image based on -proposed will be built for GCE and published to the ubuntu-os-cloud-devel project + * the CPC team will write new automated tests to cover new testable functionality (if any) in the new package + * the automated testing that the CPC team normally runs against GCE images before they are published will be run against the -proposed image + * the GCE team will be asked to validate that the new package addresses the issues it is expected to address, and that the image passes their internal image validation. If all the testing indicates that the image containing the new package is acceptable, verification will be considered to be done. [Other Information] This bug is used for tracking of releasing the new upstream version for all supported series, as per the approved policy mentioned in the following MRE: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/gce-compute-image-packages-Updates -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770650 Title: Update google compute-image-packages to 20180510 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gce-compute-image-packages/+bug/1770650/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1761240] Re: SRU pollinate 4.33
Hello Joshua, or anyone else affected, Accepted pollinate into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pollinate/4.33-0ubuntu1~18.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. [Bug 1775945] [NEW] Lenovi X1 Carbon regularly has frozen lock- or dark screen after closing lid
Public bug reported: I was running ubuntu 17.10 for months with no issues. After upgrading to 18.04, closing the lid regularly (but not always) results in either: 1. The display staying on with a frozen lock-screen, or 2. The display powered off, but the notebook still powered on. In both cases the notebook does not respond. A five-second press of the power button to hard-reboot the computer is the only means of recovery. After powering the notebook back on, there are no files in /var/crash. [Bug 1775944] [NEW] [SRU] hoteldruid 2.2.2 unusable with php 7.2
Public bug reported: [Impact] * Starting with php 7.1 variables initialized as empty strings are no more converted to array with a following assignment. Hoteldruid used many empty string initializations for arrays until version 2.2.2 (current version in Bionic), version 2.2.3 (already in Cosmic) fixes this. Many warnings about deprecated features in php 7.2 are also fixed with hoteldruid version 2.2.3. * Many of these errors make hoteldruid unusable and there could be potential data losses. For example only 3 wrong dates are displayed in date pickers, so it's not possible to insert prices or insert a reservation. Another example is when modifying language or graphic themes, all previous selections are lost and it falls back to default values. [Test Case] * Install hoteldruid in Bionic and open it in your browser (you can use the menu entry provided by the package), if needed make the login into hoteldruid. You'll land in hoteldruid main menu where you can see there is a form to check availability where only dates from "December 31, 1901" to "January 2, 1902" will be available, instead of all dates of 2018. The same happens in all other pages. [Regression Potential] * The chance of regression is low as there are no other packages that depend (or recommend or suggest) hoteldruid. Also the new upstream version is a point release consisting mostly of bugfixes. ** Affects: hoteldruid (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775944 Title: [SRU] hoteldruid 2.2.2 unusable with php 7.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hoteldruid/+bug/1775944/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tried a newer kernel and the message didn't appear. I posted my findings here: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=864642#95 - for reference: === It looks like the warning appeared with this first commit: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=dcb17d22e1c2cd72e72190c736349a675362b3bc but was later corrected with this second one: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=0b9aefea860063bb39e36bd7fe6c7087fed0ba87 The first commit was merged in the 4.9 tree, but not the second one (at least not up to 4.9.106), and was only merged in 4.11. So I would conclude the warning may be harmless, unless you got it on a >= 4.11 kernel. And I also verified I don't get it on such a newer kernel. I would close this bug, but it may eventually be nice to backport the second commit in 4.9 to avoid the harmless warning. === Searching on the net, there are other reports with the same issue and with various other drivers. [Bug 1775883] Re: Failed to upgrade 16.04.4 to 18.04. Process aborted
You have installed packages from the ubuntu-toolchain test PPA and that is preventing the upgrader from calculating the upgrade as there are packages installed greater than the version in 18.04. Please use ppa- purge to remove that PPA and then try the upgrade again. ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775883 Title: Failed to upgrade 16.04.4 to 18.04. [Bug 1775939] [NEW] unexpected operator during "shared memory segments" check
Public bug reported: rkhunter on Ubuntu 18.04 produces messages like the following: /usr/bin/rkhunter: 14795: [: /usr/lib/firefox/firefox: unexpected operator during its "shared memory segments" test. According to this rkhunter sourceforge message thread: https://sourceforge.net/p/rkhunter/support-requests/58/ this bug was identified and fixed, but the minor version number wasn't updated. I think this can be solved by just updating the Ubuntu package. ** Affects: rkhunter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775939 Title: unexpected operator during "shared memory segments" check To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rkhunter/+bug/1775939/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1252662]
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.
