[Bug 1277641] Re: German keyboard layout loses tilde dead key

2018-08-17 Thread Stéphane Guillou
For anyone affected in 18.04, I have found in "Settings > Language and
Region > Input Sources > + > ... > Other" the layout "German (dead
tilde)". This fixes my issue, and I wonder if this is the solution
previous posters here were hoping for: the default German layout with
only the tilde key behaviour modified.

[Bug 1545433] Re: package python-aptdaemon 1.1.1-1ubuntu5.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-08-17 Thread Ubfan
The upgrade probably ran out of space -- the root is only 5G, so unless
care is taken to update incrementally, you will run out of space. I
have successfully updated three of the STCK1A8LFC Intel Compute Sticks,
and used a micro-SD card to provide additional space for the package
downloads. A USB stick could be used for the same purpose, make the
link /var/cache/apt/archives to a directory on the additional storage
set up with the "lock" file and "partial" directory. Of course, update
the BIOS on the device first, there have been many fixes. The supplied
oem packages provide working HDMI audio, wireless, and bluetooth.

The 4.4 kernel upgrade offered to the user will have similar space
problems. The only glitch is the HDMI audio, which needs an edit of the
i915_component.h file (bug 1755309). The oem HDMI audio package install
will then work.

2018-08-17 Thread John Johansen
Its being caused by the gnome system-monitor snap. Its author is missing
some permissions required to use it properly on your system. It looks
like the system monitor is running and it keeps polling the file causing
this denial.

The apparmor rule to fix this is

/run/mount/utab r,

You could add it to the file in
  /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.gnome-system-monitor (it actually
might be under a slightly different variant of - and .)

and manually replace using the apparmor parser

  sudo apparmor_parser -r /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.gnome-
system-monitor

Unfortunately snappy may update this file on you and you will loose the
rule you have added.

The best solution is to contact the snap author so he can update the
snap to include the new permission in the snaps security manifest.

[Bug 1703711] Re: wcte13xp and oct612x drivers missing

2018-08-17 Thread Nilesh
@tufelkinder You need to add those lines in dkms.conf in
/usr/src/dahdi-2.10.2~dfsg-1ubuntu2/dkms.conf and then rebuild using

dkms build dahdi/2.10.2~dfsg-1ubuntu2

followed by

dkms install dahdi/2.10.2~dfsg-1ubuntu2

I don't remember the exact steps, but I think uninstall/remove using
dkms may also be required. I can't play with the only live system I have
:-)

[Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.

2018-08-17 Thread guillermo
Used Ubuntu 18.04 in my 8 year old Toshiba Satellite L675 laptop for
months without issues, progressed to 18.04.1, no problems, until
upgraded to kernel 4.15.0-32-generic 2 days ago, then, same bug as
described. only in my case the waiting didn't finished automatically so
I had to manually hit the keyboard to obtain a message for press the
Enter key to boot. I fixed it editing /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
to RESUME=none and then regenerating initramfs with sudo update-
initramfs -u. Now I boot again without delays.

2018-08-17 Thread John Johansen
Sadly yes. AppArmor currently doesn't do audit message deduping, leaving
it entirely to the audit infrastructure. Which means denial messages can
fill the logs.

There is current work to fix this by providing a dedup cache that will
hopefully land in 4.20

[Bug 1787650] Re: package grilo-plugins-0.3-base 0.3.5-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile subprocess returned error exit status 2

2018-08-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Software rendering with recent mesa (either LLVMPipe, softpipe or swr)
breaks matlab.

Seen with MATLAB 2016a on Kubuntu 17.04 with the latest (git) mesa as of
today.

Graphic commands (e.g. plot) hang and make it impossible to close Matlab
cleanly.

On llvmpipe the 'opengl info' matlab command crashes with

On softpipe, the same command hangs.

This is curious because matlab has itself a software rendering mode,
that seems to rely on mesa X11. The opengl info for it returns

  Version: '2.1 Mesa 10.5.2'
   Vendor: 'Brian Paul'
 Renderer: 'Mesa X11'
   MaxTextureSize: 16384
   Visual: 'Visual 0x72, (RGBA 32 bits (8 8 8 8), Z

 Software: 'true'
HardwareSupportLevel: 'none (known graphics driver issues)'
SupportsGraphicsSmoothing: 0
SupportsDepthPeelTransparency: 1
   SupportsAlignVertexCenters: 0
   Extensions: {151x1 cell}
   MaxFrameBufferSize: 16384

So, it looks like mesa was supporting matlab 2016a just fine at the time
of 10.5.2 and that we are now facing a regression.

Hi Sergio,

I won't be looking at the issue, I'm afraid yet here's a couple of
ideas/suggestions that should help:

- try to track down the first Mesa version (ideally a commit) that breaks things
- isolate that the issue is not LLVM related by rebuilding mesa without it
- check that the correct libraries are picked (using strace or LD_DEBUG=libs)
Matlab might be shipping libraries (say libc/libstdc++) that are older than the
ones Mesa is build against.
- try to get more verbose information of the issue - not sure if the dev. will
have a matlab license to debug themselves

Hi,

I totally understand the difficulty in looking into an issue related to
(expensive) commercial, that - as such - is hard to reproduce.

Thanks for the suggestion, even if - on a machine that is in use - I
will not be able to do any bisection.

I'll try to work on the last point aka get more verbose information.

In any case, my intent was mostly to assure that a trace of the problem
is present on the bug tracker, in case other users run into the issue
and possibly to guide them if they need to get new hardware with the
need to run Matlab on it.

Unfortunately the Matlab experience on Linux is sad. Not working with
nouveau. Not working with soft rendering, either. Working with its own
soft rendering, but with many limitations. Fortunately, it seems OK on
intel graphics.

[Bug 1787680] [NEW] guest fails to start if another running guest has an interface in the same bridge

2018-08-17 Thread Yuri Kolomiyets
Public bug reported:

I am unable to start a second guest if there is one running, and it has
an interface in the same bridge.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create two vms with one network interface each that would be connected to
the same bridge br0.
2. Start the first vm. It starts just fine. Virtual inteface that is created is
vnet0.

root@demo01kvm01:~# brctl show br0
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
br0 8000.000bab82faf5 no eth0
vnet0

3. Attempt to start the second VM using virsh start. It will fail with
the following message:

root@demo01kvm01:~# virsh start demo01inmon01
error: Failed to start domain demo01inmon01
error: Unable to add bridge br0 port vnet1: Device or resource busy

/var/log/syslog
Aug 17 19:16:43 demo01kvm01 libvirtd[3146]: Unable to add bridge br0 port
vnet1: Device or resource busy

4. If you shut down the first VM, and start the second VM, it succeeds
just fine as in step 1. However now the first VM won't start with the
same exact error message.

So for some reason only one vnet can be added to an existing bridge.
Second one fails to get added, and therefore the VM vails to start.

I continued on with the install and got the message "Could not install
upgrade."

I rebooted and it looks like it did upgrade most of the applications.

I ran the software updater and it tells me "Not all updates can be
installed" and that I have to run a partial install. I do this and get
the message "Could not install 'systemd-shim'. The upgrade has aborted.
Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg
--configure -a)."

I tryed Synaptic and it tells me that systemd-shim is "Marked for
removal". I try and Apply the change and get the error message "E:
systemd-shim: installed systemd-shim package post-removal script
subprocess returned error exit status 2".

So how do I fix this so that I can finish the install?

[Bug 1754872] Re: gnome-control-center is unusable on xubuntu-desktop, but called from Gear (About this Computer, System Settings) icon, Text Entry Settings, clock (Time & Date Settings)

2018-08-17 Thread Theo Linkspfeifer
xubuntu-desktop depends on lightdm-gtk-greeter, and yet while performing
the test case apt wants to pull in unity-greeter instead (see `apt
depends lightdm`). This will install various indicator- packages plus
gnome-control-center.

Explicitly installing the needed package gives the expected result:

sudo apt install xubuntu-desktop lightdm-gtk-greeter

[Bug 1787288] Re: gnome-shell window title bar wastes space when maximized

2018-08-17 Thread Damiön la Bagh
So here is the upstream answer:

Window decorations are client-side on wayland, that means they are just another
part of the application window the same way as the products you are viewing. We
cannot tell what parts of the window are decorations, or whether there are in
fact any decorations at all. It's entirely up to applications to adjust to
window state changes if they desire.

(In the X11 session, there is a _GTK_HIDE_TITLEBAR_WHEN_MAXIMIZED hint
that applications can set, and you'll find extensions that apply that to
any windows. But X11 is a legacy technology at this point, and we won't
add any features based on that.)

As Ubuntu 18.04 is a LTS release still using X11 for compatibility can
the Ubuntu project please add the _GTK_HIDE_TITLEBAR_WHEN_MAXIMIZED hint
as a toggle?

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1768610 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768610

I encountered same problem, and I found the work around.

I believe this was because libglx from xorg over-written the one from
amd/nvidia.

For people using nvidia graphic cards, you can do:

sudo mv /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.bac
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/nvidia-396/xorg/libglx.so
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
Then restart.

I belive amd users can do the similar thing.

The point of this bug is that it happens after an Upgrade.
Something in the Upgrade process is breaking this behavior.

Asking one to do a fresh install is not a reasonable solution.

[Bug 1787288] Re: gnome-shell window title bar wastes space when maximized

2018-08-17 Thread Damiön la Bagh
BTW> Workaround to the buttons on the right (which only makes sense for right
to left languages ) was to install Gnome-tweak tool.

In Left to Right languages having the buttons on the left means less
mouse travel on high res screens to click the button. This was just good
well thought out and tested design.

[Bug 1787626] Re: Sync golang-yaml.v2 2.2.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2018-08-17 Thread Simon Quigley
This bug was fixed in the package golang-yaml.v2 - 2.2.1-1
Sponsored for Hans Joachim Desserud (hjd)

---
golang-yaml.v2 (2.2.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Alexandre Viau ]
  * Point Vcs-* urls to salsa.debian.org.

  [ Anthony Fok ]
  * New upstream release 2.2.1
  * Apply "cme fix dpkg" fixes:
- Bump Standards-Version from 4.0.0 to 4.1.3
- Change source Priority from "extra" to "optional"
- Add "Testsuite: autopkgtest-pkg-go"
- Remove unneeded versioned dependencies
- Rename license key from "MIT" to "Expat"
  * Activate debian/watch: Upstream has started releasing tarballs
  * Use debhelper (>= 11)
  * Bump Standards-Version to 4.1.4: Remove gen-orig-tgz
(akin to get-orig-source) debian/rules target, etc.
  * Install new NOTICE file as required by the Apache-2.0 License
(Fixes Lintian missing-notice-file-for-apache-license error)
