[Bug 1788226] Re: libvirt might misdetect guests as not properly shut down when using plenty of hostdev ressources

2018-08-22 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Migration of the fix into Cosmic worked and testing from there works as planned.
The SRU Template for Bionic is ready.
I'm doing a quick final run to verify from a PPA against Bionic and then push
it into the SRU queue for Bionic.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2018-08-22 Thread Fabio Chino
Update: I tested on Wayland and the problem persists.

I also discovered that, if I move the mouse and wait at least 1 second
before I press the button, the click is always computed. Just in case, I
also monitored the processor load and the issue happens even when the
processor is idle.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2018-08-22 Thread Fabio Chino
Until I performed the last update on 2018-08-16, I was not experiencing
this issue. Now I started to experience random mouse clicks misses with
no apparent pattern, making the usage very annoying but not impossible.

Usually I misses the first clicks right after I move the mouse to the
desired position. Usually the first few clicks after I stop moving are
ignored but if I insist pressing it, it is eventually computed. The
mouse over events are working properly because links on the browser and
button highlights change as expected so it appears that only the clicks
are affected.

The problem always happens when I switch applications using the mouse
(the first click never works). The same happens when I activate a
context menu.

The only relevant package installed that day was linux-
modules-4.15.0-32-generic but a few days earlier, gdm3 was also
upgraded.

I'm using bionic X64 with XOrg using RX480 with amdgpu-pro drivers and
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz.

[Bug 1788387] Re: After upgrading from 4.4.0 to 4.15.0 system doesn't boot - ACPI issue

2018-08-22 Thread santicor
I've tested the kernel 4.18.3

The headers file installed with errors:

/etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms:
ERROR (dkms apport): kernel package linux-headers-4.18.3-041803-generic is not
supported
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.18.3-041803-generic

The kernel installed too, with these errors:

/etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms:
ERROR (dkms apport): kernel package linux-headers-4.18.3-041803-generic is not
supported
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.18.3-041803-generic

The kernel didn't booted, it was necessary to add pci=noacpi to boot, after
loging the network icon got cloned in the bar (two icons).

I attach the make.log files for nvidia and the wifi network driver.

[Bug 1788539] [NEW] grub package in -proposed will change boot order on AMD Naples server

2018-08-22 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

Similar to bug 1642298 and bug 1750732, this issue strikes back (looks
like it's only affecting our node "lodygin - AMD Speedway Naples 2U" in
the test pool)

Steps:
 1. Deploy a system with Xenial
 2. Check the boot order with `efibootmgr`
 3. Upgrade grub-efi-amd64 from proposed
 4. Check the `efibootmgr` again

Result:
 * The boot order will be overridden to boot from disk first, MaaS needs it to
boot with PXE first.

Package version:
$ dpkg -l | grep grub
ii grub-common 2.02-2ubuntu8.3
ii grub-efi-amd642.02-2ubuntu8.3
ii grub-efi-amd64-bin2.02-2ubuntu8.3

The bug is either in gtk+3.0 or in mutter. But since it's the gnome-
shell process crashing we should also keep a task for that so that
others can find the bug.

Using pci=noacpi to boot was succesful but I got an internal error

** Description changed:

I'm using Xubuntu in an old system, I'm concerned because other users
looking for a light OS for their old PC wouldn't be able to install or
boot the 18.04 version and above.

With kernel 4.4.0 the system boots without problem (xubuntu 16.04),
after upgrading to kernel 4.15 the system doesn't boot anymore (18.04).
This issue was present when testing kernel 4.13 too.

The install crashes with an error: BIOS bug:8254 timer not connected to
  io-apic error on.

Adding any of these commands to the boot allows the system to load
  properly:

  -acpi=off
  -pci=noacpi
  -acpi=noirq

  I attach the info related.

[Bug 1780076] Re: 18.04 login screen is skewed/distorted (incorrect stride) when using hibmc_drm graphics

2018-08-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, the patch in comment #7 is only a workaround but that might be as
good as it gets while no developer ever has access to the hardware.

Please reformat the gdm3 patch with more details about what's being
fixed, and then:

1. Attach a patch for Ubuntu 18.10, and subscribe 'ubuntu-sponsors'.

2. When the fix (workaround) has been released to 18.10 then we can
start on the SRU process to get the fix into 18.04
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure).

[Bug 1215524] Re: Thunderbird deletes messages rather than move them to Deleted

2018-08-22 Thread gf
Hi John,
I forwarded your two screen shots to the Mozilla programmers in their bug
tracker (link is in comment #9 above).

Hopefully, they will action it soon. Though, I must advise that it may
take a long time for them to action it, as the programmers themselves
are also volunteers. Thank you for your patience. I will keep an eye on
this ticket to watch for progress.

Take care
:)

Could you give me specific steps to replicate the issue? I am in Ubuntu 18.04

can mark it as confirmed.
Thanks

[Bug 1675163] Re: Don't attempt to create devices in LXC containers

2018-08-22 Thread Matthias Klumpp
FWIW, I ran into that issue today as well, and it was really annoying. So I
fixed in in Debian in a generic way, so this should work for every container
solution out there.
It requires systemd-detect-virt (systemd) to be installed prior to installing
makedev though (which usually is the case).

[Bug 1332944] Re: Update not working correctly

2018-08-22 Thread gf
Thanks for the screenshot, UlfZibis. In consultation with one of the
Ubuntu bug team members, it appears that you are using a Thunderbird
add-on called "Thunderbrowse"

The Thunderbrowse website is here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/thunderbrowse/

Unfortunately, it appears that the add-on is no longer maintained and
was last updated for Thunderbird version 16, back in 2012.

As an alternative, the current version of Firefox will allow you to keep
specific tabs open all the time. I use this feature constantly. When I
open Firefox, my regular 9 tabs come up automatically every time. Would
you like me to show you how to do that?

Hope this helps

[Bug 1730331] Re: ath10k_pci: firmware crashed!

2018-08-22 Thread Steph Gosling
I'd made precisely one change to the config on the XPS9370; which was to
add deep sleep to the kernel boot parameters for grub, vis.

```
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash mem_sleep_default=deep"
```

as otherwise this device didn't always sleep on lid close. I'm going to
revert that (and pay attention to the hot laptop) and see if it happens,
though I appreciate it won't be a huge step forward in narrowing this
down.

[Bug 1788486] Re: apt behaviour with strict dependencies

Reading state information... Done

I'm currently compiling the 'apt' upstream source code to test using the latest
and greatest 'apt' version and see by any chance if that behaviour is still
present using latest version.

[Bug 1788499] Re: xen crashes on system resume

2018-08-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1788499/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1788520] [NEW] multiple boot problems if /usr is on a logical volume

2018-08-22 Thread valerio
Public bug reported:

xubuntu 18.04.1

After standard installation with LVM, I created further LVs, namely for
/usr, /var, /tmp and /home.

The boot delays about 30 seconds waiting for /usr, this delay is caused by
wait-for-root.
Also, the /usr volume can not be defined by its label in fstab, it fails to
find it at boot time.

It seems both problem are caused because wait-for-root is called before
the /usr LV is activated, adding "vgchange -a y" in "init" just before
calling mountfs for /usr allows the boot to complete if /usr is defined
by its label, and eliminates the delay if it is pointed by the
/dev/mapper/ device.

[Bug 1788519] [NEW] package base-files 10.1ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: package base-files is already installed and configured

2018-08-22 Thread Henri Pouget
Public bug reported:

I tried to change graphical card driver, using Gnome System Settings >
Software & updates > additional Drivers, from xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
to NVIDIA.

After commiting this change, surprisingly, the driver was still the
initial one !?

So I redo the same operation, and this time it succeed, but generating
the current bug.

I suppose that things were partially done during the first attempt and
completed by the second, but with errors due to the staff that was
already performed during the first attempt.

Note that it it mandatory to change graphical driver when installing
Ubuntu on ASUS desktop.

Anyway, great thanks for your OS : it is very nice to use it daily like
I do !
