[Bug 1769654] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 embedded fonts Liberation have corrupted metrics

2018-09-11 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
@sil2100 , @osomon : Backported packages should not have a higher
version than their original source.

2.00.1-7ubuntu0.18.04.1 > 2.00.1-7

This breaks the upgrade path.

[Bug 1721429] Re: docker-compose should depend on python3 not python2

2018-09-11 Thread Trev Peterson
seems crazy to install the full python2 stack to just get docker-
compose. As a workaround I installed python3-pip and installed docker-
compose through pip.

The other panels seem to work right, including:

[Bug 1791010] Re: 128 bit float precision breaks mysql self-tests (stalls cosmic updates)

2018-09-11 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Your upload seems to build fine on all architectures and checking ppc64
in particular the tests that formerly failed are good now.

  The servers were restarted 167 times
  Spent 1178.435 of 482 seconds executing testcases
  Completed: All 768 tests were successful.
  157 tests were skipped, 59 by the test itself.

That said I thought this looks good and you could go on coordinating with
rbasak and tsimonq (who synced the last version) for the upload into cosmic
that should finally unblock it from proposed migration.
But I realized that the build log in the PPA still has:
   Depends: [...] libmecab2
which should also be removed for 18.10 as the security review isn't complete
and we have a component mismatch at the moment (the synced version currently in
cosmic-proposed blocks on the lack of mecab in main).

[Bug 1788040] Re: Replace LXD deb by snap in Ubuntu 18.10

2018-09-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
So looks like we're in good shape with removal of "lxd-client" and "lxd-

switched over to "lxd" soon enough.

I'm now checking the rdepends of lxd to ensure that they deal with the
snap as expected.

[Bug 1758243] Re: bumblebee needs configuration changes to work with nvidia-driver-390 and libglvnd0

2018-09-11 Thread Rocko
FWIW, I've found that optirun doesn't work in Ubuntu 18.10 - the nvidia
module loads but as soon as the application tries to create a 3D window,
the appliction exits - but primusrun does work, so long as you ensure
the path to its libGL is correct, as per https://github.com/Bumblebee-
Project/Bumblebee/issues/951#issuecomment-379512353:

eg PRIMUS_libGL=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1 primusrun 0ad

or I think you can also modify your primusrun file directly, as per
https://github.com/Bumblebee-
Project/Bumblebee/issues/951#issuecomment-412314114.

[Bug 1791716] Re: FFe: sync java packages from Debian to fix OpenJDK 10/11 issues in Cosmic

2018-09-11 Thread Steve Langasek
I have dropped from the package list a number of packages which are not
present in either cosmic or cosmic-proposed, and therefore don't need to
be considered as part of this FFe.

** Description changed:

  Asking for a FFe exception to keep in sync (or merging) with Java
  packages as uploaded to Debian, until the 18.10 release. As outlined in

    https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
  release/2018-March/004359.html

  we are planning to update to the next so called OpenJDK LTS version,
  which is to be released in September/October 2018. Java 10 and Java 11
  support will likely require new upstream versions, and it's probably not
  feasible to backport compatibility patches for ~1300 source packages.
  However the impact on the archive is somehow limited as the java
  universe is much self contained (packages only build indep packages
  related to Java). To give an idea about which packages may need an
  update, please see

    https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?email=pkg-java-
  maintainers%40lists.alioth.debian.org

  That's the majority of packages, however there maybe be pure java
  packages maintained by other people as well. The package list as of
  20181009 is listed at the bottom.

  Care should be taken for packages which build java unrelated binary
  packages, and only provide java bindings, as an update to a new version
  might have more impact on other packages.

[Bug 1569567] Re: Running update-grub does not update /boot/grub/grub.cfg with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT from /etc/default/grub

2018-09-11 Thread Marc Khouri
I have the same setup as Felix in the comment above me: Ubuntu 18.04.1
server, installed onto bare metal from a bootable usb stick, neither or
curtin packages are installed. This also results in
/etc/default/grub.d/50-curtin-settings.cfg overriding my
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT from /etc/default/grub.

The file creation time on my /etc/default/grub.d/50-curtin-settings.cfg
matches the time when I first installed Ubuntu on this machine via usb

[Bug 1791981] Re: X Server session crash for "No space left on device"

2018-09-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
"No space left on device" usually means your disk is full, so check
that. It can also mean that the process (X server or shell) has just
leaked and exhausted some particular resource.

Since it's a crash we require a stack trace to identify it properly,
since it's likely other people are reporting the same. To help us find
the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th

2018-09-11 Thread AaronMa
Thanks for the detail test.

I have another X1 Carbon 6th, but it cann't reproduce your issue.

Could you isolate which change solve this issue?
1, suspend/resume;
2, kernel update;
3, libinput update.

My X1 Carbon's PnP ID is the same as yours, so I think we have the same
touchpad.
But the product ID is not the same.

[Bug 1791789] Re: FF62 upgrade : search engines override, french dictionnary and language pack lost.

2018-09-11 Thread Chris Coulson
Our custom search engines reappearing between search engine cache
rebuilds is not a new issue, but it's being made worse by a new bug
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1489820) which is causing
a cache rebuild to happen on every restart rather than after app
upgrades (and is also responsible for making some en-US search engines
appear for non en-US users).

I've found some other issues with our search defaults as well. I'll have
some updates for this tomorrow.

[Bug 1771662] Re: [bionic] libvirtError: Node device not found: no node device with matching name

2018-09-11 Thread dann frazier
I tracked down why libvirt generates the message "internal error: The PF
device for VF XXX has no network device name" on startup when built in
bionic, but not in xenial. When populating device capabilities, we see:

virNetDevGetFeatures():
  virNetDevSwitchdevFeature():
virNetDevGetPhysicalFunction()

However, virNetDevSwitchdevFeature() is stubbed out at build time unless
HAVE_DECL_DEVLINK_CMD_ESWITCH_GET is defined. In bionic, this is defined
in /usr/include/linux/devlink.h, which didn't exist in xenial.

Since all of our OpenStack/arm64 testing on bionic is blocked because
our test systems all happen to be impacted by
https://bugs.linaro.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3778 , I'm wondering if there's
some kind of temporary hack we can carry to detect these devices,
disable some set of (currently broken) features, and allow our testing
to proceed until this problem is addressed upstream.

My understanding is that our testing succeeds with xenial, but fails
with bionic, while the source version of libvirt remains constant. I
therefore wonder if virNetDevSwitchdevFeature() is the (only) thing
causing this to escalate to nova failure. In that case, could we e.g.
compare vendor/device ids, and add a hack to return 0 if they match?

I've pushed a libvirt build to ppa:dannf/test with such a hack, if
someone w/ a full arm64 openstack setup can try it to see if it would be
able to unblock us.

above 4.15.xx and select remove, but only once I have booted up with the
older kernel (once the GRUB menu appears, go into Advanced options and
look for 4.15 and boot off of that, just don't select "(recovery
mode)"), type "apt autoremove", but since you probably don't use the
terminal logged in as root in it, type in "sudo apt autoremove" and it
should automatically start configuring the packages that were not
configured previously, a.k.a. the GRUB updates, open UKUU, install the
latest available kernel, restart and enjoy!

Do note that I am using an HP laptop and that a previous GRUB update (a
few months ago) enrolled new Secure Boot keys, which might affect the
fact that I'm booting with unsigned kernels and Secure Boot on.

Good luck and have a nice day!

[Bug 1279558]

2018-09-11 Thread Digitalfreak
1. All links provided in comment 5 consistently confirm that a dot is
used as a grouping (thousands) separator in it_IT, also a comma is used
as a decimal (fraction) separator. Also CLDR which we usually treat as
an authoritative source confirms the same. Currently it_IT provides the
same except (as the original reporter noticed) that it does not provide
any grouping separator for LC_NUMERIC. Therefore I'm going to add a dot
as a grouping separator in LC_NUMERIC in it_IT even if this differs from
the original request. Note that the same values are currently in
LC_MONETARY in it_IT.

2. But CLDR also confirms that a similar mark as the original reporter
suggests is used in it_CH (Italian language as used in Switzerland).
Currently an ASCII apostrophe is used in glibc but CLDR says it should
be a character (Right Single Quotation Mark, "’"). It is
correctly transliterated to an ASCII apostrophe while building non-
Unicode locales. Therefore I'm going to use the character as a
grouping separator in LC_NUMERIC in it_CH.

3. But all LC_NUMERIC and LC_MONETARY sections in all Swiss locales
(including LC_MONETARY in it_CH) contain just “copy "de_CH"”. So maybe
LC_NUMERIC should also contain “copy "de_CH"”? True, de_CH uses an
ASCII apostrophe as a grouping separator while CLDR says it should be
. Also, CLDR says that a decimal separator for both it_CH and
de_CH should be a dot. In glibc it is correctly set in all Swiss
locales except it_CH. Shortly: all Swiss locales should use an
apostrophe (or better the Right Single Quotation Mark) as a grouping
(thousands) separator and a dot as a decimal (fraction) separator.
Therefore instead of what I said in point 2. I am going to use “copy
"de_CH"” in LC_NUMERIC section of it_CH and I'm going to update de_CH to
use as a thousands separator in both LC_NUMERIC and LC_MONETARY.

commit 527f355e5e97bb0f76e88caadb08d2405cacea94
Author: Rafal Luzynski
Date:   Mon Sep 10 16:00:45 2018 +0200

Italian and Swiss locales: Use the correct separators (bug 10797).

CLDR and many other sources say that it_IT (Italian) should use a dot
(".") as a thousands separator and a comma (",") as a decimal separator.

For it_CH and de_CH CLDR says that they should use the Right Single
Quotation Mark ("’") as a thousands separator and a dot (".") as a
decimal separator. Consequently, the same rules are copied to all other
locales in Switzerland.

These rules apply to both LC_MONETARY and LC_NUMERIC.

[BZ #10797]
* localedata/locales/de_CH (mon_thousands_sep): Use "" (Right
Single Quotation Mark).
(thousands_sep): Likewise.
* localedata/locales/it_CH (LC_NUMERIC): Use “copy "de_CH"”.
* localedata/locales/it_IT (thousands_sep): Use ".".
(grouping): Use "3;3".

+ Upgrading fonts-cantarell may cause visual glitches in GNOME Shell. You
+ need to restart your computer after upgrading this font.
+
+ Original Bug Report
+ ===
+
  Hello,

  On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, with unattended upgrades, using gnome3 as desktop
  environment, I have just witnessed the following problem :

  - The upgrade to the latest release occurred a few minutes ago :

  $ tail /var/log/apt/history.log
  [...]
  Start-Date: 2016-07-08  11:10:07
  Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade
  Upgrade: fonts-cantarell:amd64 (0.0.21-1, 0.0.24-1~ubuntu16.04.0),
lsb-release:amd64 (9.20160110ubuntu0.1, 9.20160110ubuntu0.2), lsb-base:amd64
(9.20160110ubuntu0.1, 9.20160110ubuntu0.2), tzdata:amd64 (2016d-0ubuntu0.16.04,
2016f-0ubuntu0.16.04)
  End-Date: 2016-07-08  11:10:15

  - Instantly, all characters in the top bar (open windows, date, dropdown
  menus) have been replaced by small solid rectangles (sorry, did not
  think of capturing a screenshot). If important : language is french
  (locale : fr_FR.UTF-8)

  - Logging out from my gnome3 session, and then logging back in fixes the
  problem.

  I would have expected the font package upgrade to go more smoothly
  (possibly refresh the gnome3 interface at the end of the process ?)

  Thanks for your efforts,

[Bug 1792045] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 external USB hard drive performance 1/10th of 16.04

** Description changed:

- From both a live and an installed environment, I cannot get my external

+ about 10 megabytes per second under Ubuntu 18.04. I have another that
+ writes at the expected full speed or close enough (100+ MBps).

  I have tried:

  * Changing the enclosure from the stock to a new one
  * Using usb-storage "quirks" options in modprobe conf files to work around
any UAS incompatibilities with the bridge (many reports of the drive working at
full performance when disabling UAS, no such luck for me)
  * Checking the disk for errors
  * Updating the kernel to the most recent mainline (4.18.6 at the time)
  * Checking UEFI settings (I'm already on the most recent revision of the
firmware)
  * Applying all available updates
  * Changing USB ports
  * Checking dmesg for any obvious errors (dead end, I googled everything)

-
- Again, a different external 3TB USB 3 drive does not have any write speed
issues at all, so it's not the computer (Intel NUC7PJYH).
+ Again, a different external 3TB USB 3 drive does not have any write

  However, the very same drive in both of the enclosures I have used works
  *perfectly* in Ubuntu 16.04 on kernel 4.15.0-34 in both a live session
  and installed. I am not sure what the difference is between the two LTS
  versions that is causing this, but unfortunately I think I've reached
  the end of my know-how on this.
